Not immune to stuns or roots.

However, these giants leash after two knockbacks and evade heal back to full. I mean, it's great to have level 82 elites have a short leash, but this just takes it to a nutty extreme. The way we found to combat this is:

Knock the tank back once.
Have the giant run all the way towards the tank, no moving towards him.
Run through the giant to turn him 180 degrees, to be knocked back towards your original starting point.

This was soloable by me, a level 78 demonology lock. VW out, used demonic empowerment, manually hit suffering, and carefully managed my aggro using Omen. (Mostly I just kept 2 dots up, corruption and curse of agony, while healthfunneling VW, until he was at 6000 health or so, then I burned him down. Did do an immolate once in a while, but that got me riding the edge of my VW's threat, and I had to soulshatter once or twice.) Be careful of the edges of the platform though; this guy has a knockback and knocked me off once and I died due to that.

These guys don't actually hit too hard on the VW; I didn't have to panic if he got to half health and I was riding his threat; I had some leeway to wait until my threat had gone down before resuming my healthfunnel. The pain here is that they reset and evade so often.

Not too tough for an 80 BM hunter even with a ferocity pet (wolf). Just misdirected steady/auto spam with wrath on then kept mend pet and scorpid sting (might be unnecessary) on them. Intimidate works fine too as a reprieve stun.

Easily soloed this as a 79 prot warrior in BC tanking gears with 22K health.

I just keep up TC, Demo shout and rend on him all the time. Everytime i got punt, just poped charge (love using charge in combat now :D ) and rince repeat.
Only used my Spyglass of the Hidden Fleet and Enraged Regeneration to heal myself.

The level 81 elite have 65165 and hit lesser than the level 82 elite which have 67405... even both can be soloed.

Drop rate looks to be almost 100%... killed 6 to get my quest done.

The difficulty in this quest isn't killing the mobs but making sure they don't evade. You'll have to fight them along their patrol route to make sure they don't.

Like the comments above about other classes, I just solo'd this as a lvl80 Retribution Paladin, using my 2h mace. Didn't even have to use my bubble nor Avenging Wrath. Here are some tips. Remember that they're undead, so add Exorcism into your dps rotation. They can also be stunned so use Hammer of Justice when your health is down, and pop a Holy Light to heal yourself. Then continue your dps rotation. If you need another heal, remember that Holy Wrath not only does damage but stuns him for a few seconds, enabling another self-heal. Those below 80 should also be able to solo, but might have to bubble yourself and/or drink a pot.

What I found out at www.wowwiki.com is that this is the chain:

- The Skybreaker (prequest for this is the Crusader's pinnacle chain)
- The Broken Front
- ... All the way we can get
- Poke and prod

Anyway, wowwiki is very usefull for finding out questchains.

Solo'd as an 80 haunt/ruin warlock. 16k hp, 2k spell power. Only thing I did was drop a demonic portal near his ledge (his aggro range is very small), then open on him at max range-

Shadow bolt, haunt, UA, immo, corr, coa, Siphon

At this point, he's ready to whack you and haunt is almost off CD. Take your demonic teleport, do your haunt, refresh dots, and DL spam. Healthstone if low.

Finished the fight usually with half health/mana, so 16k hp / 2k sp isn't really necessary. If your health ever gets to 20%, death's embrace, if talented, kicks in.

Fel armor, siphon life, haunt, death coil and drain life over 30 seconds for each 65k hp elite did about 14-15k healing (or about 500hps / 1500h/3s - and he hits for roughly 2k on cloth every 3 seconds, and the knockback buys you more time). Definitely enough to last the fight.

Vulnerable to snares and roots.
Easy to solo as a Frost Mage.
Make sure you don't move outside their patrol area of the bridge or they'll evade back to full health.
As a frost mage, this required me to Blink through them as they got close to me so I could kite them back and forth between opposite ends of their patrol area.

I have just soloed this quest as a level 80 41/30 warlock, and I will agree with what several posters have already mentioned; the most frustrating part of the quest is the mob's short leash. Here's some tips for other warlocks soloing this quest:

-- A voidwalker can easily tank the elite, as he did around 1k normal hits and crits for around 2k. You can put up a Curse of Weakness if you like, but better off to use Curse of Agony.
-- If you have Demonic Empowerment, the elites are a joke. You can put up CoA, Corruption, sneak in an Immolate or two, and Health Funnel, and he will not lose aggro.
-- To avoid resetting the elite, I placed a Demonic Circle down at my feet. This is both to port me back when I am knocked back, and also to mark the 'safe spot" (ie: the spot where he won't reset).
-- Don't be afraid to run through him when knocked back to get back to the "safe spot". You might get hit but that's not as annoying as having the elite reset. >:|
-- Lastly, when your voidwalker gets knocked back, use the passive command and pull him back towards you. This is where a reset can happen, so be sure to keep voidy near you and the "safe spot".

I was able to solo these as an 80 BM hunter + cat (Gear: mostly quest blues, 4 epics; base ranged dps 557.5 with AoD and pet out, damage meter shows ~1200 dps total all out)

My method is: AoD, target giant, set Hunter's Mark. Send in pet, burn trinket and MD on pet, Steady Shot / normal shot / Arcane Shot on MD, Steady Shot, Serpent Sting, Steady Shot, Multi Shot, Mend Pet.

Maintain dps rotation: Steady Shot, Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, Multi Shot, Steady Shot, Serpent Sting and repeat. Keep Mend Pet up consistently as these guys hit the cat hard. Also recast MD every time it cools down to keep aggro on the pet. When I have him down to around 50% HP, burn Bestial Wrath and Intimidation as I'm probably starting to ride my pet's threat by now. Then resume above dps rotation until giant is dead.

This worked for me for all five, so doesn't rely on procs or crits to succeed. Most of the time I'd finish the battle with my cat around 50-60% health and me with no damage. Only once did I pull aggro off the cat, and that was solved by FD, at which point the giant evaded out of combat and could be re-engaged.

Not all prot warriors may know that Warbringer can be used in mid-air to avoid the knockbacks! This is a good place to try; the giants are easily soloed in pre-naxx gear and knockback 2-3 times per fight. If charge is off cooldown and you're booted into the air hit it while you're still in range and you'll get right back into the action with no fall damage :)

I soloed a level 82 Giant as a level 78...Was pretty Hard..Nearly died a couple of times..But My rune Taps And Blood Taps saved me..Also had my ghoul out..Had Mark Of Blood..Got my Gargoyle out..and end...Done...It took around 2 mins..But pretty worth it..(Im Blood And Unholy-Its amazing) Did it aswell. I only died once though..But turned into a Ghoul and killed him..Got loot...Flew back to body..Did the last one... Done. Easy. Job done, Next job.

as boomkin keep them rooted and dont let them get to you because they will probably evade if they do

as dk use your usual elite solo tactics AKA death strike

they arent immune to CC...once youve used hungering cold on one you will probably know what that melting ice stone is xD

I am currently solo'ing them as an 80 Ret Paladin, with a mixture of badge + heroic gear + rep rewards.

Using Seal of Command + Blessing of Might + Ret Aura

Lead off with Repentance. Get your free crit from JoL (i use it for the extra healing), then flow into your routine/rotation

Pop a Hammer when your next Judge cooldown is up for another free crit, plus an instant FoL.

If you time it right, using Holy Wrath and a Judgement right after will net you ANOTHER free crit on your Judgement, thus another instant FoL.

Fight them RIGHT by their 'perches', between the uprights, with your back AWAY from the outer ledge. If you can put out good dps (I was doing roughly 1700-1800) you can solo them, but you will need to drink right after.

P.S. Also, having any spare food is good or any of the Runes from the Ebon Blade Witch will significantly help you, ESPECIALLY the +5% damage or 2% total health heal on Melee Crit.

Very easily soloed with lvl 77 Blood Death Knight. Used Elixir of Mighty Strength, killed nearby mob to build runic power, used Horn of Winter, raised ghoul, empowered Rune Weapon, summoned Dancing Rune Weapon and just wailed on him. I dont think my HP fell below 85%.

Nothing new to add really. Just to say we all know there are tough elites and easy elites; and the level number means next to nothing.

These are pretty easy elites.

Soloed five of em without losing a single point of my health as an 80 beastmaster hunter with a ferocity pet.

As mentioned before, just take normal precautions. The Icecrown runes help. A good food buff helps. Drinking up between fights helps. Waiting for most cooldowns helps.

As a hunter all you need to do is keep your pet alive of course.Hit mend pet before the pet actually makes contact. On a couple of the fights mine dropped to about 4500 health. In the three others he never got below the nines. I used a scorpid sting in 3 of the fights, and unless you have a steady shot glyph that might be a decent precaution.

I could not perceive any meaningful difference between the level 81s and the level 82s.

Soloed by a 80 Ret pally super easy 2.1k dps. May be harder to do alone for other class like healers will have a little trouble Tanks will kill these things kindy fast but all dps Rogues and mages and hunter super epic easy.

Location spans through Mord'Rethar. Around 65 59 to 72 58.
They hit for about 1k-2k on cloth, but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep your distance.
Also, according to the other comments, the maximum range you can pull a giant seems to have been increased significantly. I've been able to fight one of the giants and crossed almost half of the bridge while fighting, and i did not lose aggro.

I would like to confirm this quest as soloable with a marksman hunter, ferocity pet, at level 80, with middling gear. The other writers who state that aggro managements is important are correct. The 82 elites will go down, but be sure to keep up Mend Pet and MD to keep the pet viable and manage aggro. Use FD if you're riding the aggro edge too tightly (like I did).

I lost the pet once, but the giant was basically toast at that point so kiting was possible and effective.

The Omen aggro monitor is very useful in this application.

I soloed this as a resto druid in tree form with only 1274 SP and only using melee hits, no Spell power or food buffs.

Took about 6 mins to down it.

Did average DPS of 195, did not get below 95% mana pool ;)

I pretty easily soloed them as a level 80 Rogue with full 25man naxx gear and some Ulduar gear. got me down to 10k hp before they were dead. I have 18.5k hp to start out. So yes, doable as a level 80 rogue.

Soloed as an 80 frost mage in mostly 171-187 blues and a couple of 200 crafted epics. Had water elemental pull him, popped mirror image, icy veins, kept ice barrier up, Deep Freeze whenever FoF came up, and he was dead in 30 seconds and I still had 60% health. The hard part was waiting 3 minutes before going after the next one.

This is no problem for a ranged dps to do solo.
Did it as a arcane specced mage. Used mana shield, frost nova, and cone of cold.
Then it shouldn't be any problem.

Very easy to solo as a frost mage. Just pull out your WE and frost nova a couple of times. As mentioned the only thing to watch out for is the short leash on these, so don't kite them too far.

Easy soloable as Frost mage.
Just spam frostbolt and use Deep Freeze and Ice lance when possible.
You dont have to use your WE but it helps, I killed them without getting struck once.

Easy solo as level 80 Elemental Shaman. Use Flame Shock -> Lava burst combo and heal when needed. If you don't need healing feel free to cast Lightning Bolt. I didn't even die once.

They are weak, and they don't hit hard. With a bit of cc and a hp pot, everyone will be able to solo it. I mean everyone, I just took one down on my priest, where I forgot to change to shadow spec before pulling. I must admit it wasn't without trouble, but if a lvl 79 disc priest can solo it, who can't?

Not so easy but soloable as a Pally Retri 79, CD's can and have to be used, little tip, it doesn't look like great difference but, if you're attempting to solo this kill the 81 Elites, i notice that are easier than 82 by a notable difference.

While doing the daily quest i got bored and started to shoot at the Pustulant Horrors's on the ramparts at the end of the flight and found it actualy damaged them and killed them pretty easy so fly back on my mount after and looted the corpses and got the spines plus a far bit of gold!

Warning! The quest is a f**king pain in the ass and only use this method as a last resort!

Easily soloable as mutilate rogue wit 4.9k gearscore, just make sure to trade bones for the runestone that gives you heal on crit. If you feel like it, add the 5% more damage dealt and the 5% less damage received. was always full after battle, thanks to high crit rates with assassination spec, took me around 15 to 20 secs to kill per giant. If it gets rough you still have your defensive cd's and can simply reset by vanishing if necessary.

Hunter soloing strategy: 1)Start by misdirecting to your pet (In this case a wolf
2)Cast mend pet, and then send him into combat
3) Open with your main damage attack that causes the most damage (in this case Explosive Shot) for per threat.
4) Keep refreshing mend pet, use all dmg trinkets and cooldowns you have (dont waste rapid fire)
5) At the end of his health use kill shot to finish him off

Surv hunters, make sure you are tracking undead for bonus dmg.

Laughably easy solo as a bear tank feral druid. I was able to get a 5-point rip and then some on him before I went into bear form. From there, it's a slightly slower fight, but still simple. The only thing you need to worry about is their knockback, because if you're on the edge, it's a long way down.

A good way of doing this quest without a group since the icecrown citadel doors were opened is to go there and blast these giants as they fight with the elite npcs outside both sides of the stairs, they hold aggro on the giants nicely so you can get your 50% damage on them and get credit for the kill and loot the spines nice and easy.

They attack the npcs with a group of those creepy gheist things but again the argent and ebon blade npcs will make short work of them for you.

Easily soloable as an 80 Frost Mage. Pull with Ele and scuttle back against a wall, and Frostbolt away. By the time he got through my first Ice Barrier, he was at 11K health. Didn't wanna risk him evading by kiting him too far xD

Soloable as a 79 Unholy Death Knight if you can think quickly enough to get a good rotation. Send ghoul in for ~ 7 seconds, then go in yourself. Eat afterwards. Done.

At least have a go at killing them by yourself before you find someone to group with you. It's soloable as a level 78 as long as you're sensible and wait for your health and some of your CD's to reset before attacking them. When they are close to death they sometimes let out a big hit that can take a nasty chunk of your health away, and the last seconds of the fight could end up going either way. If you're a Warrior like me, save Victory Rush/Impending Victory (or Healthstone, Exhilaration etc) for the end just in case.

Description

While it's going to be crucial to defeat the Scourge on the ground, we mustn't neglect the gate itself.

The flesh giants on the ramparts are capable of hurling massive boulders and chunks of ice, inflicting devastating damage to enemy infantry below.

Muster a force and defeat these giants. We need to know just what we're up against in terms of their strength.

Oh... and bring me their spines. If memory serves, there's a little trick I can share with you.
