All the items drop from the enemies in the surrounding area, very simple.

Yep most of them seem to be 100% drop rate but i might have been lucky,

try 42 25 the shadow vault for all these mobs mentioned above.

as a 77 undead affliction warlock , i used my swift wind rider, once igot my cold weather flying ab unlocked.

this relatively ez as a warlock use voidwalker to hlp tank and curse weakness to reduce their melee, then apply the corruption, sphon life, immolate, and then any fire damage spells and use your shadow bolt , volley at target

you should be fine.

i flew around to find isolated mobs or those with enough distance between others so as to not agro.

100% drop rate! You are really lucky, iv killed at least 10 of each kind of mob and nothing at all has dropped for me....oh well ill keep killing

Droprate for the Scourge Essense was HORRIBLE for me...gah I must have bad luck. 10+ Kills with no drops in a row.

Not sure what I'm missing but I can't get any drops. Killed everything in the area including inside the vault and not one drop. Other people showed up and started getting drops straight away. WTH! Is this to do with the fact I'm already friendly? Any ideas?

Baron Sliver at The Shadow Vault has asked you to collect a Cultist Rod, an Abomination Hook, a Geist Rope, and 5 Scourge Essences.

Description

When I was in the - ahem - employ of the Lich King, we would often use a device known as a sovereign rod to keep some of the more intelligent Scourge in line.

I require that you assist me in the construction of a new one.

Luckily for you, all of the necessary components are at hand: a cultist rod, an abomination hook, a geist rope, and a handful of Scourge essences.
