This quest seemed bugged at first, but:

You have to be very close to the boss before the horn works. Within 10 yards or so, almost melee range. If it doesn't work, go closer.

A good tip.
If you need to raise your weapon skills, this is the time. Let your helper kill the bosses, while you Wand, Knuckle or hit the bosses, instead of doing dmg with your main weapon/spell ;)

A few things, if you try to summon your DK helper after you hit the mob they won't spawn so run at the mob while spamming your horn, also if your a pet class or melee stay back away from Yath'amon, it seems when she fears you your DK will despawn.

I've found that the quest bugs if you start a fight with one of the bosses stealthed. The horn will sound but the npcs won't come to your aid. When doing this quest make sure you start unstealthed (just clear any ads first then walk into the boss unstealthed).

As of Dec. 11th, 2008 this quest might be bugged. I fought Salaranax and blew the horn and an orc deathknight named Munch came. I went to fight the Underking and the High Priest and blew the horn and a death knight never came. I kept spamming and it never came. I am a fury warrior so idk if any abilities prevented this. I died once on the High Priest and when i came back a rogue was fighting her and so we joined group and my death knight still would not come but his did. After we killed her we went to the Underking and both our death knights never came so we just killed him our selfs. Not sure what happened but this quest might be bugged.

I went out to do this quest on my 80 Unholy Death Knight today and had no problems. Then I looked at the quest text again and realized I forgot all about the horn. These elites are a joke. I didn't heal at all on Talonox and never dropped under 80%.

Note that after Mograine pops his portal and leaves, you can click the same portal for a free port back to the questgiving site. (Which only makes sense, he's the Ebon Watcher if you listened to his previous chatter with Tirion at the start of the quest chain.)

All the Knights pop a portal - I got Munch (plus Melt), Jayde and the Highlord, and all 3 made a portal back to the Valley. Had to gawk a bit when Darion popped up and as others have said, Talonox dropped ridiculously fast with Darion poinding him.

Side note: What chatter? Do they talk to each other before you start questing there? I didn't see anything like that. Could someone post a transcript of their conversation?

might be a bit obvious, but you do actually have to hit the elites to get the quest credit, first time i went for the underking, i just stood there and laughed as morgaine owned him with nothing but auto attacks and never going below 100%, took the portal, and realized that i never got the kill credit >.>

To those of us going back to hang with our lvling friends. Please note that this quest is phased. After doing this on one toon I head back when a friend asks for help, the good kind that you go and hang with... found that i couldn't even see mograine kick much zombie hind quarters :(

I didn't know whether to laugh or shout but maybe my story can give someone else a laugh.

Summoned Munch, barely helped as he clearly had things in control. I did a few DoTs on the elite and healed Munch and Melt. As soon as the elite dropped, Munch and the ghoul headed straight over and one-shot me.

Munch then opens the portal and says: "We're done here. I'm out!"

As of 1/17/19 This quest is still bugged from time to time. In order to make this work correctly you have to use the horn "Before" Engaging the mob in melee or ranged combat. After 3 seconds one of the Death Knights will emerge from there portal and help you fight the mob.

So how weird is this.. after the fight ended, the npc that helped me, killed me ......

I wasn't sure what happened at first. Thought it was a horde dk who killed me, but no, I wasn't even flagged.

Jayde's melee swing hits you for 4025.

btw I was on my shadow priest when that happened.

Please note that Blizzard has acknowledged as of the time of this post that the quest is bugged-moreso for Shadow Priests. They have stated that a hotfix will be applied for it in the shortest time possible.

Dear people I feel it is my duty to warn you this quest 'is' bugged. But not in the way as shown previous. I did this quest solo on my level 79 Shadow priest and summoned all three times because I'm a cloth wearer and I suck like that. First time around as soon as Munch killed the first guy, he headed right at me and killed me in two shots. I went past Jayd just fine and then summoned morgrain who after downing the underking proceeded to kill me real fast.

I warn you, these deathknights may kill you too. Redeemed my pale draenei butt.

Blow the horn, then TAP the mob, whatever, just damage it. I had to wait on my DK to kill the dude then wait again... god it's long.

My death knight NPC turned on me after killing the high priest. Thought it was a bug when I saw an alliance kill the same High Priest and walk away without being attacked by his DK. The other fights were fine, but I tried the High Priest again and for a 2nd time my DK turned on me after the High Priest died.

Ok, I guess I am one of the few people who noticed this. This would only apply to DK's though so I guess I can see why everyone else missed it. When DK's start in their starting area, on the 2nd floor of the Ebon Hold there is a book on the side of the room. Most would probably miss it. But if you click it the title is Death Knights of Acherus. In the book, both Jayde and Munch are listed as DK's in training, with Jayde closely following in strength and viciousness behind your DK. Munk acquired Melt as Melt was a DK who failed his initiation rites and was killed. Just an interesting side note, I thought. They weren't randomly generated characters.

Killed both Underking Talonox & High Priest Yath'amon twice without getting credit, and yes I attacked the mob before my summoned dk and after he got aggro i nuked. Im a elemental shaman if that helps :s

Well, something odd happened when I did this on my priest. After killing the Salranax and Yath'amon I went for Talonox, and sure enough it went quickly. And then, Mograine two shot me.

This is the third toon I've done this chain on, and this is the first time Mograine turned on me. It's quite an honour and all, but I was pretty surprised. He even said "Suffer well" before he left. Needless to say, I was in no position to take his portal.

I still don't understand why, but for some reason after killing UnderKing Talonox with Mograine's help he turned on me and 2-shotted me. Anyone else had this bug?

Got two shotted here by Mograine too as a shadow priest, was curious if ye VE healing threat somehow bugged and tapped him but who knows. Not set "at war" with them but can't even think of anything plausible.

There's a cool bug for shadow priests -- once the quest mob is down, your summoned death knight will come after you! Expect to go down after one or two hits. It's not clear why this happens -- one interesting theory was that the Shadow Weaving buff your offensive spells apply to you is marking you as a target. I haven't experimented with other possible theories (don't mind blast after vampiric touch? don't use vampiric embrase?), because there's an easy way to stay alive:

To avoid this, I literally switched to holy for the fight: just use Holy Fire and Smite; the summoned companions are more than enough to do the rest.

This was interesting...was on my third alt thru Icecrown and had no problem with Jayde helping out. However, when I summoned Munch not only did he "tag" the mob first even though I had thrown a DoT on it (this is post 3.0.8, so a DoT should have tagged it even before the first tick) after the mob died Munch turned around and killed me. Was wonderful.

Patch 3.1, 24 hours after server up. Solo'ed the quest as feral druid in junk gear. Only problem I had was to drop the aggro enough that the DK would tank.... from the time I blew the horn till the NPC showed up, I had gained enough aggro that the NPC had trouble tanking... had to pop shadowmeld on the priestess to get her off me. Then heal up, back in cat, and kill kill kill.

As I write this, the new shapeshifting bugs are not hotfixed yet, so it's a massive mana drain to go out and heal. If you can avoid it, by all means do, atleast until it's fixed...

All the other bugs in this quest are supposed to be fixed now though.

Also, you must know :NEVER ATTACK THE MOBS ! Just let the Dks you summon to fight ( But try to survive until they appear ;P ) Well,
The First 2 DKs have arround 500 K and hit for 1500-3000 . It will take like 1 min for ' em to kill the mobs BUT Highlord Darion Mograine hits VERY hard like 8 K to 10 K ! Have fun watching Mograine CRUSHIN' the Underking .

Maybe its just me but I thought this quest was extremely easy. Whenever I blew the horn the Death Knight came in what seemed like 3 seconds or less and immediatelly pulled all aggro from me. After I blew the horn and before the DK arrived I popped wither vanish, sprint or evasion. For any other rogues reading this those abilities can definately save you while you are waiting for the DK to arrive. Once they got there all I did was Sinister Strike the boss and when I got to five combo points rupture then get back to five and evis. It helps make the fight go by a bit quicker.

I did this quest. I'm at Underking Talonox and after 3-4 seconds do he have 180k/240k hp left... I dont find any reason to why it went so fast so I checked what DK that were summoned to help me. Well, not strange it went fast cuz on the other side of the mob was Highlord Darion Mograine :D.

Downed the mob a couple of seconds later.

This is another phased quest. Once you enter the buildings, you are on your own. No one can see you or assist you.

Went fine np ... but on Salranax iattacked and about half way through the fight I pulled agro from the summoned Dk so Salranax was attacking me .... got me to half health b4 he died but i thought the Dks were supposed to pull agro.

If you die while fighting one of the mobs, you should hurry back because the DK will still be fighting and you can kill
them and still get the credit.

Yeah so i changed to frost presence to take more damage till dk got there and i just kept attacking cuz i never seen the help show up and I had to keep healing myself cuz the dk never took aggro so, you have to back off a bit when he get there if your in frost fyi, but it doesn't matter cuz he dies super quick when help arrives.

Top tip for mages, use the horn,take aggro,activate invisibility. The DK will then take aggro and finish the mob off!

On my 78 Blood DK, tried to kill Salranax first. I had read the comments here after dying twice, despite blowing the horn. I realized I was keeping aggro on myself, and that I ought to let the summoned guys do most of the fighting. So back in I went, blew the horn, and put Icy Touch on Salranax. He fireballs me. The summoned guys come and start fighting him. I put Icy Touch on him sporatically, and healed myself when he hit me. Finally he dies, but I don't get credit for the kill. I click on the portal, thinking maybe I'll get credit after going through it. Nope!

The DKs no longer seem to grab aggro very easily? On my rogue, with Evasion on, the high priest gets me down to about 20% before she even turns up and then it takes her long enough to grab aggro for me to blow all my cooldowns and die...

I have found in the past that Night elf warriors aren't the fav choice amoungst most of you (not nuff ranged zappin stuff I guess) but, thats me...So somethin hit me, during the 2d time I tried this guy. 1st time I held too much aggro n he wouldn't release to the help, so spppt! 2d time I tried Shadowmeld when I got down to bout 25 hlth n he immed went for da help. WAS STUNNED for a sec cuz usually bosses see right thru that n kick my tootie. Wutdahey,,,thought I might even try a little lunch n had a snack of cheese n brought my health back total, while they're slammin away on eachother. Im a 78 NE Warrior w/a Brutal Gladiator socketed armor set, but elite bosses go thru me pretty nice if I try soloin em. Anyway, just stood by n waited til da slob wuz down to bout 30% n punched my rage buff n re-engaged. Easy peasy and really surprised that the shadow worked. 1st time I ever had lunch while inda ring too! The next guy wuz the same easy peas but the 3rd squirt inda road did actually aggro to da help so shadow wasn't needed. I had another chance to eat n regain hlth n re-engage for the finish. It turned out quite nicely and quite humorous too. So if ya are havin trub w/aggro n cant get em off ya...stealth/shadow if ya can n have lunch! Peace

Had no problems as a Frost spec mage level 77 doing this quest. I had previously done it on my Rogue whilst levelling and died a few times. Came here to check and see why it had been such a pain last time and the problems I came up against didn't seem to be there this time.

Just a few points you need to remember -

Make sure you get aggro on the target, I started off with a frostbolt then let my pet take the aggro whilst summoning the dk. Then let her/him take the aggro (wait for a few seconds) and then you should be able to fight without grabbing the aggro back.
Salranax the Flesh Render hits fairly hard with his fireball so if you have any cooldowns to stop you taking some damage i'd use them on him. The other two are no problem damage-wise.
High Priest Yath'amon's room has four adds, you'll probably take out the first two you can see in the room but the pther two stand to the back. The mob does a fear so it might be a good idea to take out the two in the back as well

You can effectively solo all three of them at lvl 85 without calling for help. Also, did this quest on my lvl 79 frost dk. Had a bit of trouble with the first encounter. You have to target the mobs and then click on the war horn. As you blow the horn, the creature you target will aggro you. Try not to damage it too much, stun it if you can as a portal will open and the chosen Death Knight for that fight will appear and attack, let him grab the aggro and he will take most of the damage while you attack and kill. Highlord Darion himself will help you with the last one.

I was lvl 80 DK and used Rune Strike so I was high threat so cannot confirm aggro level but I did find that I was able to summon up to three DK accomplices with horn. No problem but I had good armor. I wailed on horn and fought and blew again as soon as cool down was complete. In my case the attacker was always focused on me due to the nature of the rune Strike's High threat. I am fairly sure I could have taken without the summoned help, though this toon was fairly stout.

I just soloed each boss easily with lvl 78 Shadow Priest, I tried it to see if I'd get more XP, but it wasn't the case. I used wizard oil, a few enchants on equipments, and also intellect potion. My shadow priest is a bit overpowered I guess because it took less than a minute per boss to kill them and her health never got lower than 80% and she never self-healed.

In conclusion, because there is no increase of XP from soloing them, and because the DKs create a portal, I consider it's better to use the horn provided.

Normally, Yathamon kills me before the DK NPC even hits him. These DKs usually spout off a bunch of useless villain dialogue and take forever to aggro the boss.

This quest currently seems to be basically impossible, here's a video of me trying to kill the first boss, it has 300k hp and I only have 24k.

The mobs for this quest were buffed significantly and will basically kill you long before you kill them if you start fighting them right away. The trick to complete this is to let the summoned Deathknight attack first, and give it a good 5-8 seconds to build up threat. From thereon you should be fine, just watch your threat and stop attacking if it gets too high. If you're leveling as a Tank, swap specs first.

Do the devs play their own game or do they want you to struggle hard core and die a million times before you kill a NPC that has TEN freaking times the health that you have? Or are they just stupid and cant make a game?

Considering they make mounts drop at the rate of % 0.07 chance, i am not surprised at this impossible quest.

Devs' play your own game and post a clip on youtube of you doign this quest in normal dungeon gear appropriate for the level. A public server. None of this internal testing crap. Lets see how you do it.

EDIT...Nowi know why i struggled. The NPC did not appear the first time. So it was just me. The second time they appeared and i managed to kill them. Bugs bugs bugs

The Ebon Watcher at the Valley of Echoes in Icecrown wants you to kill Salranax the Flesh Render, Underking Talonox and High Priest Yath'amon.

	Salranax the Flesh Render slain (1)
	Underking Talonox slain (1)
	High Priest Yath'amon slain (1)

Provided item:

	War Horn of Acherus (1)

Description

You must defeat the lords of Scourgeholme if this place is to be free of the Scourge's grasp.

Salranax the Flesh Render lords over the temple on the first tier of Scourgeholme. Nearby Salranax you'll find High Priest Yath'amon preaching at the spirit tower on the second tier. Underking Talonox holds court at the Pit of Fiends, up the high road.

These are formidable opponents and must be approached with caution. Use this war horn should you require aid. The death knights of Acherus will come.
