The best way to do this quest is to go clockwise along the major road. As a 68 Shaman I soloed it by popping my fire elemental and taking one down. First mob dropped it. They move counter-clockwise and come as a group of four (possibly five, was a bit rushed). If you can CC a few you're fine. Melle classes should group up for it.

Easy soloable as rogue. Use distract to seperate the two riders. Wait for one rider to ride as far away as possible. Start killing one mob. Blind the other rider now coming back. Use evasion and possibly blade flurry as necessary while finishing off the first mob. Then kill the other one.

Yeah, they jsut patrol the main road in the circle so run around on mount wiht spectacles and ull hit them,

They are pretty fast so run the road clockwise to find them quicker.

Easily soloed with lvl 70 warlock though there were only 3 of them. Sent my voidwalker to tank and he was still alive when they were all dead. They are also undead so no sheep / fear.

My lvl 70 rogue did solo it easy just killed 1 of them, vanish then go and loot. I had a rly crap gear when i did it.

Just make sure that you got the goggles on and some hp.
The mobs go around like hole shadowmoon valley and they are like 5-6 lvl 70's.

When around road twice untill I relized to turn around and there they where. Flew down with my lvl 70, Balance druid and was going to give them a shot and try to take down at least one. Well 4 tried 4 denied, 1major health potion, 1 major heal, 1 Intervate and with the help of the trents. Walked away with half health and half mana, after looting the item. Spaming Wrath FTW.

Before you can do the "Divination: Gorefiend's Cloak/Truncheon/Armor" quests, you need to do the prerequisite chains. After you do the appropriate prereq chain (they're pretty quick), then you can do the three Divination quests in any order you want.

Solo'ed by a 70 protection Warrior with decent blue gear: Charge, switch to Defensive Stance and use Shield Wall. Shield Slam for dealing damage. Use avoidance trinkets. Keep Demoralizing Shout and Thunder Clap up at all times and Concussion Blows and Disarms for reduced damage taken. Killed them all and I didn't even have to use Last Stand :)

The best place to camp them seems to be 34,47 this is where i have gotten them 3 times and the only place i have seen them repeatedly, i think they spawn here we had 1 group circle the road clockwise and the other camped at taht corner, the camp got them first.

lvl 70 Retrubution Pally... just attacked the mob and it dropped from the 1st guy. Bubbled, healed myself, mana pot, and ran. Managed to get away with ease.

Easily soloed it as a 70 Shadow Priest. Sick your shadowfiend on one while dotting all of them up. Keep re-shielding and dishing out dps. Quite easy.

These mobs patrol counter-clockwise on the road around Shadowmoon Valley. The quickest way to find them is to just ride clockwise along the same road.

I solo'd this with my rogue at 70, quite easy really. First, when you see them stealth right away wait a little to the side and have distract ready. As they ride by, time your distract so that you only grab the last rider. Let the other 3 ride away. Wait near him till he begins moving again to catch up, then begin attacking him. Burn him down as quickly as possible, since he is linked the other 3, they will be coming back to you. Pop evasion if you have too when they get near. Once you kill the first one just vanish and wait for them to ride away, collect loot.

neat trick for a rogue, can just throw a distract by the last rider as he runs by and the others will keep running...just before the distact effect will run out, unload on him. He'll be pretty much dead by the time the others charge back to you and just vanish it off =)

I did this quest solo as a 70 Paladin. I didn't need to fear, but I flew ahead of them somewhat, waited for them to come to me and I used Holy Wrath. With all 4 on me I just swapped on Concentration Aura and always kept Consecrate up.

I was wearing a sword and shield, not a 2H. Paladins will win that war of attrition.

i did this solo on my lvl 70 rogue what i did was made sure i had all my cooldowns 2 superior pots , i stealthed and waited for the riders to come and i distracted the back one while the others where of screen i quickly

Just wanted to clarify how this quest works:

Around the Hand of Guldan, there is a road visible from your map that completely circles it. On this road, 3 ghosts ride in a group at 160% speed in a counter-clockwise fashion. So, the best method to find them would be to follow the road in a clockwise direction to head them off. They are 3 non-elite mobs. However, you will get your Truncheon from the first kill. So, if you cannot normally take on 3 at once, attack and kill at least one, then run from the others (preferably on the road so you don't aggro more mobs) after slowing them. After a short period of running, the mobs chasing you will stand still and evade. Then, you are free to go back and loot your Truncheon. Like all ghosts, hunter traps don't affect them.

As a mage, they are easy to AE the crap out of 'em. Just be sure to use frost nova and blink, and don't be afraid to use a potion and your other cooldowns (trinkets, pom, AP, IB if you have them).

Soloed as a shadow priest.

How it was done:
Sent in the shadowfiend in first to keep the busy, pulled one away from the pack and killed him. Shackled one and pulled another one away from the shadowfiend tank. Shadowfiend died somewhere around there and the unshackled came for me. Killed him and then proceeded to kill the last remaining one that was shackled.

also soloable by level 70 holy priest. I had to use a Fel blossom along with my power word shield and used my shadow fiend to restore mana after killing the first Ghostrider of Karabor. I kept renew up all the time after one was dead. I was taking about 520 combined damage on their attacks and my renew was restoring me for 400 it worked just fine, I took out the last one with my wand when I got low on mana, wand specialization rocks! :)

Easily soloable as a level 70 arms warrior with average gear. Just hit recklessness, death wish and whatever attack power trinket you have equipped, finished the fight with all of them dead and about 900hp left.

For the Fire Mages out there (I'm 17/44/0):

It's very possible to solo the entire group of these guys. I did so on my first try with just one Health pot. I waited until they all passed me, then fireballed the last guy. I got him down to a little bit before the rest of the posse came after me. From there, Frost Nova, blink, and finish off the first guy. Blizzard the rest of the group until they're all on you again, then span Arcane Explosion until Frost Nova's CD is up. Frost Nova, run away, and Flame Strike.

That did it for me, from what I recall. You may need to run up and Arcane Explode the few remaining to finish them off. Make sure to use Spellpower trinkets, etc. if you can.

I only had to fight 3. As a 70 hunter I just waited on the road for them to come by and sicced my pet on them and picked them off. These have very low health and should be easy for any BM specced hunter. My pet did lose aggro twice but that was only because growl was off from a Tempest keep run.

So Im standing by the road going up to black temple and like 5 guys coming running at me, but they are going up into the temple. I took the glasses off and then i turned and put them back on and get knocked off my mount by 2 of the horsemen! scared the heck out of me! haha Anyway it was just 2 of em, and was easily solo'ed even after they jumped me for about 1k b4 i was able to do anything (68 lock)

I've completed this as a shadowpriest, and i even forgot to use shadowfiend, just started by attaking the last one, all de dots on him and run, he died, so there were only 3 to go, shackled one, fought the other two, just poped up a shield and max dpsed one, then fought the other, by then the one shackled came to me, but since i already had the item and was low on mana, i re-shackled and run :D

Soloed this as 69 full-marksman (0/60/0) after 2 tries:
- on the first attempt there were 4 mobs (70, non-elites as stated above) which was too much for me, so I decided to use the "kill one, die, revive, loot" tactic which, unfortunately, FAILED for me (I managed to kill one of them, died, but when I resurrected I couldn't loot his corpse - I first got a "Internal bag error" message followed by "You are not authorized to loot that" (something along those lines) messages)
- on the second attempt there were only 3 mobs in the group and I managed to get them all down - pet tank on 2 of them, kited the other one around (with Serpent Sting, Arcane Shot and Concussive shot, Aspect of the cheetah on)

A very important thing for hunters to note that THEY ARE IMMUNE TO TRAPS ... actually, I wouldn't say immune because they don't even trigger the traps, they just walk over them and nothing happens

Solo'ed this as 70 shadow priest. It was three mobs for me (the numbers seem to vary).

Shackle one, kill one, kill other, kill shackled. Might hurt a little, but it wasn't too bad. Fear doesn't work on them, however.

This was very easy as a lvl 70 combat rogue. first distract 2 of em so the group scatters a bit, then just cheapshot one and hit all you have in like trinkets, blade flurry, adrenaline rush and evasion. with ~8k health i ended up with ~3k health left when last one was down :) (used healing pot though)

Sacrificed void when almost dead and finished off last 2.

I was kinda worried about this, but I soloed as a 68 prot / holy pally with semi-decent gear. I waited by Altar of Sha'Tar as they passed, Exorcised the last one and started wailing on him as the other 3 turned around for me. Popped Exorcism and Consecrate as needed, Hammer of Justice when it was cooled down. Halfway through the second rider I used Lay on Hands, during the thrid I bubbled and healed myself with Holy Light. The last one I barely pulled out, at 145hp I had just enough mana for one Holy Light, the rider missed and I healed, and took him down with some hp to spare. The Truncheon dropped on the first one. :P

Soloed as a lvl 70 protection warrior. Had green and blue gears, nothing outstanding. Stood and fought all four of them at the same time, applied demo shouts and thunderclaps. Eventually I had to use a potion and pop Last Stand. Was left standing with 50 health, but I did it anyways. Didn't even use Commanding Shout.

Also very easily soloable by a resto shammy. Whip out an elemental and chain lightining them down. Hardly any need to pot, and they go down easy. Make sure and keep them away from any other hostiles in the area though.

For those who are 70 and have a flying mount i was able to solo this with no effort at all. I was able to get one of the riders solo by playing around with my flying mount, taking off and landing next to the last rider, he stayed in place and the others rode off, i dismounted and killed him and got my truncheon.

Fairly Easy. Soloed as a 69 Fury warrior

Wait in front of Wildhammer Stronghold (or Shadowmoon Village for horde). Then when they come buy pull the last rider, I used Deathwish and both my trinkets and managed to get the rider to 48% before his friends started attacking me. After I killed the rider I let them kill me (I didn't have time to loot). I released and ran back to my body (which shouldn't be far cause you'r near Wildhammer).

Just Rez and loot the Item

I also did this on my 70 Enc Shaman but outside of The Altar of Sha'tar.

Just distruct 1 of them, mount up, wait for him to start moving, wait ur distruct CD, then distruct that one last once again, wait the other two to run away and finaly disapear (seems if they are disapeared the link between mobs are broken). stealth. cheap shot, and go go go =)

this quest is pie with a prot pally - im 69 and with Kings on i had 9104 hp and 5944 mana. I ended up killing them with 39% health left and like 30% mana - for pallys just do judgement of the crusader, seal of righteousness, some consecration, some exorcism, pop some holy shield you'll be fine...altho ppl say differnt numbers come, i only had 3 of them show up so be ready for anything.

SOLOED with ease as 70 Feral Druid.

Had 2 defensive trinkets which i fired after the first kill, killed a 2nd then built rage for frenzied regeneration. After the last two took 10-20% more off of my HP, left the fight at 60% hp with fairly well balanced blues/greens.

This quest was actually pretty tough for me , especially since im scryer and found them near some 70 elite aldor . This quest is actually pretty easy though . If your a rogue kill as many as you can and vanish , loot what you killed and you will most liely get quest item . Other classess like mages can do the same thing or anyother class with aoe for that matter . I dont know about warriors though , dont know to much about their abilities around this lvl

Just did this as a 69 ret pally by tailing the group and pulling only the guy at the rear. After bursting him down I DS-ed and ran, only going back to loot after they deaggroed. No need to kill all 4 :)

Soloable as a Prot Pally, but, honestly, anything that deals with non-elite mobs is soloable by a Prot Pally.

Hop on an epic mount, drop Crusader Aura, and run clockwise along the road. You'll find them eventually.

Did this at lvl 68 with my rogue, very easy. Stand in stealth when they run by you and distract 1 or 2 of them and wait for a few seconds and start attack one of them.. it will take a while until the other 2 or 3 comes back, and by that time you're done with the mob and then you can easy vanish!

Solo'd as a level 70 Prot Warrior. Very very easy, didn't fall below 90% health. Any level 70 with half-decent gear can solo this quest without a problem.

Extremely easy as rogue, when they run past you, stealth up and throw a distract so the last one of the row gets distracted to remain still on the road when rest of the riders keep going. Then kill the distracted one and vanish away. (I used nice stunlock which included Shadow Dance and loooads of ambushes)

Note; When you attack the remaining rider, the others will turn back to help him so the faster you kill it the better. I had to use the dodge-trinket from Hellfire Peninsula and Evasion.

I just soloed as a 68 ud shadow priest. I put my dots on one and mind flay the hell out of him, by this time the other adds were chopping me and so i screamed and they ran in on direction. The add died and i ran the other way. When i was out of combat i strolled on back and looted!

Soloed as 67 shadowpriest. I waited them on the bridge. There was four of them. Shackeled one of them and nuked one as fast as i could. Kept shield up and used one super healing potion and shadowfiend. As one mob was down, I just ran away. They stopped following quit soon and moved on. Had some 20% health left. Returned to the mob I managed to kill and looted the questitem.

I was very lucky while doning this quest on my 67 mage (solo), i saw all 4 of them around 61, 51, ran into them with 2 other ghosts chasing me as well, but i managed to do this: Frost nova - Ice Barrier (lasts like 3 secs so i had to do it again) - Summoned my Water Elemental - Ice Block - Ice Block fades and Ice Barrier breaks and freezes all of them - Blizzard and then i was dead. When i got there with my ghost i saw one of the 4 NPC's was dead and the others were gone. Ressurected and looted, lucky it was the quest item :) I guess i was so lucky that time because everything else went straigt down to hell that day.

You will face 4 non-elite mob at the same time, No chance to take 1by1.
You only need to kill one and loot to complete quest

How to find them?
Run around the circle road in shadowmoon valley and run from right to left or for lazy people just stand in the road and wait for them to come. They running on horses

Solo'd as a 67 DK, wasn't too hard just had to keep using the self healing attacks, just follow the main road clockwise, I had to fight 4 of them - they are non-elite but they are level 70, and yeah don't forget to wear the Spectracles.

Solo'd as a 67 Elemental Shaman. I went to the bridge at 63, 41 and waited for them to appear from the south. I then popped my Earth Elemental, counted a second or two for him to get some agro, then dropped a magma totem then just cast chain lightning and anything else destructive. Earth elemental never lost agro and they all died.

It's not entirely necessary to kill all the ghostriders.As a feral druid, I attacked them in bear form using Berserk and spamming Mangle (popping Survival Instincts and Frenzied Regeneration at low HP).The first ghostrider who died dropped the Truncheon, after that i went into Cat Form and popped Dash and ran away.

Just thought i would mention, as i was unsure if i would be able to or not, i managed to solo all 4 as a level 67 hunter. Using a cunning pet (it would of been easier with a tenacious pet).
I scorpid stung all 4, reducing the amount of damage my pet was taking. I'm also a Draenei so was able to pull two mobs onto me while i cast Naaru and Mend Pet on my pet. Then used Deterrance while my pet regained aggro.

The trunchion dropped off the 4th mob of the four mobs for me.

Travel CLOCKWISE on the roads and you will find them. There are 4 Ghostriders of Karabor. The are Undead, so fear effects don't work on them. I soloed this with my 68 Affliction Warlock and it was very easy. They were not Elite. If you have a healing potion it might help, in case you get into a sticky situation, but they really aren't that difficult (anymore). :)

As a level 67 prot pally this was extremely easy. I encountered 4 riders (Cataclysm). As posts mentioned they run counter clock wise on the main road that circles around the area. This was a fun quest line, GL & HF.

As a lvl 70 Warlock, just use your Felguard and summon your Infernal, keep healing on your Felguard. Make sure you use your Bane of Agony or something to hit them once so you get credit. Solo'd this easy.

ILet me repeat info for those who now start at the bottom and read up since all the changes due to CATA. I myself find that so much of the old information isn't valid anymore. I just modified the actions suggested by others above and it worked quite well for me.

Be sure to wear the spectrecles-- I did not do this quest right away and when the time came, I just rode the roads in the WHOLE circle 4x without seeing them. Being a guy, I hate asking directions but something was obviously wrong so I gave in and looked up what was wrong on Thottbot. Once I had the specs on, I saw them within 10-15 seconds.

I am a lvl 70 rogue with decent gear. I traveled along the road on my flying mount and when I finally saw them I just flew into the group to get their attention and out the other side to get set on the ground. They swarmed me instantly so I picked a random target and started hacking away and ignoring the others. When the target changed, I knew I had killed one of them so I ran like a scared monkey and they didn't follow very far but we also picked up some animals who WERE a little more persistent in trying to kill me. If you run along the road, it would lessen the chance of additional mobs piling on. They were ok to handle though and when they were dead, I went back to the corpse near the road and looted the truncheon. After circling for at least 10 min, this whole event transpired in ~1 min once I was correctly prepared.

Be sure you have all your buffs applied beforehand. I didn't need any health, etc. once the scuffle started but I had good buffs going in. They didn't entangle me with anything so running worked just fine.

It is 4 mobs now, patch 4.1.

Solo'd with my 69 Demon Lock. Just dropped behind them and sent my Felguard and Infernal, and dot'em to death. Used Howl of Terror once because I pulled aggro and that was it. Just kept my Felguard alive.

Had a hard time finding them even with the directions. They move quickly. Just a yawn and you can miss them.

Solo 74DK with raise dead friend, frost fortitude, horn of winter, death and decay, and then just wailed away on them. Down to about 65%, no potions or other health helps. They are intimidating because they all are smacking you from atop their horses, but are not actually as bad as some mobs. They take damage easily. Just make sure you get them in a lonely pass or valley - you do not want more guests at the party.

67 disc priest. After flying around for ten minutes, I decided to make it easier by putting on the spectrecles. Both dots and just wore them down, renewed bubble. Not too much of a problem though it went through almost an entire mana bar. Remember these guys are dead, so dont bother with your psychic squeal. ;)

So, weird issue for me. By the time I got these quests, all the mobs for it and the matching cloak quest are friendly to me - I can't attack them.

That doesn't, apparently, stop them attacking me. When I get close enough, I aggro them just fine. But there's nothing I can do...

I put in a ticket about 3 days ago about the issue of them being friendly and they got back to me telling me they would send it along to get looked at and fixed. I was able to successfully complete the quest 2 days ago and move on, which was one of the last quests I needed for Loremaster! On another note, if you see a bug or something not working right, PLEASE put in a ticket, not just post it on wowhead. At least post on the bug forums, if you don't tell them it's wrong chances are it won't be fixed!

They were green for me too even though the 4 mobs for the Trunchen started attacking me. When I was sitting on top of the mountain watching the dragon fly by ... green... I decided I would change my helm from my goggles to my helm then back again to my goggles. This worked! The dragon turned red right then. I went back to the area in front of the Black Temple and the 4 mobs just came by and they were red... before I obliterated them. Yay!

Horde can retrieve their spectrecles from Chief Apothecary Hildagard! I first ran around the Hand of Guldan about three times before I realised I needed the spectrecles, then I ran around the horde base about 5 times trying to target the NPC who I later discovered is the alliance NPC who gives out the spectrecles.

Then the spectrecles were actually in my bag the whole time. I have done well.

I was able to solo this quest as a lvl 67 blood DK.

I saw them while I was completing Divination: Gorefiend's Cloak and followed them till I was killed by the opposite faction's quest hub. Be careful! Each faction has one on each side of the trail the riders travel.

I pulled the back rider first then popped my cooldowns (i.e. Icebound Fortitude and Horn of Winter). The rest of the riders (they ride in packs of 4-5) came to the one I pulled and I just AoEd them down using and .

I actually got two drops of the quest items from the pack so I'm guessing the drop rate's high.

Fly in a counterclockwise circle around the giant road the quest says they're on, they are on mounts that look like the Fiery Warhorse from Kara and are actually pretty fast. They pat across that entire circular road.

I just downed all 4 of them as a lvl 68 Elemental Shaman.
I made sure I had a full stack of Lightening Sheild and took out the first one before using it.
Took out the second one with Lava Burts then Lightening Sheild and the last 2 using Lightening Bolt and Lava Burst.

To all those who thought they got lucky with looting on the first one killed, they all have the loot item on them so there was no luck involved.

Don't forget to wear the goggles.

For Alliance: get them from the Draenei plaladin wearing the Purple Judgement set(Tier 2) named Zorus the Judicator in Wildhammer Stronghold.

For Horde: Chief Apothecary Hildagard in Shadowmoon Village

i have no clue where are the deamn goggles or spectrecles whatever. im very mad, i even abandoned the quest to see if i'd get them this time and no luck! my friend got them and i just- i looked everywhere for them okay, even in my bank they are not there, searched my bags nope. i'm not stupid enaught to just sell or throw away a quest item, i have a buttload of those staked in my bags because they are important. just to make sure i wasn't playing myself, i googled the icon of the goggles and i've never seen them in my life! I ran into 4 of them. Other comments say between 2 and 5. Maybe they settled on 4 as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
1. Wear the Spectrecles to see them.
2. They run clockwise. Fly anti-clockwise to find them relatively easily.
3. Apparently each horseman drops the Gorefiend's Truncheon
4. Loot the first kill to avoid multiple Gorefiend's Truncheon

As of shadowlands, these are no longer elite, still ride VERY fast Counter clockwise, there are 4 in the pack, and each one has a 100% drop rate of the item. Easily soloed all 4 as a lvl 25 seeking the final quest rewards.
