Viscidus is the 5th boss in the Ahn'Qiraj instance and is optional, which means you can go past his lair and proceed to the rest of the instance without having to fight him. He requires a decent amount of Nature Resistance as well as a considerable amount of mages (you'll understand if you read the tactics).

Location: Temple of Ahn'Qiraj in Silithus
Type: Not specified

Melees for around 1000 on a NR-geared tank. Hits very fast at first, but progressively slows down.
Takes 50% reduced damage from all attacks.
Poison Shock: AoE Nature attack for ~1200 Nature damage every 10 seconds or so. Posion Shock has a radius of 15 yards, so be very careful to stay away when not trying to shatter him once frozen.
Poison Volley: AoE spell cast every 10 seconds that hits for ~1500 resistable Nature damage on hit and will apply a dispellable DoT that does ~500 Nature damage every 2 second for 10 seconds. Similar to Lord Kri and Princess Huhuran. This volley ignores LoS and has a range of 100 yards, therefore it is very difficult to avoid it. Nature Resist gear can greatly mitigate the direct damage, but the DoT is unresistable and therefore highly lethal. Poison curing must be set up for the raid so that no one is hit by more than one tick of the DoT.
Toxin Clouds: These are spewed out every 30 - 40 seconds. The cloud hits anyone inside it with ~1500 unresistable damage every 2 seconds and slows movement speed by 40%. Similar to Lord Kri's death cloud. A single bolt will predate the Toxin Cloud (it is the only time Viscidus spits on a single target), so move away asap from the landing point of that single bolt. The clouds look fairly small, but their damage radius is larger than their graphic so beware!
The Three Frost Stages: Viscidus must be slowed by Frost attacks in order to defeat him. Frostbolt, Frost Shock, and Frost wands count toward this objective. The strength of the Frost attack doesn't matter, only the number of hits, so use the fastest Frost abilities possible. (Rank 1 Frostbolt and fast Frost wands)

"Viscidus begins to slow." - Movement and attack speed reduced by 15%.
"Viscidus begins to freeze." - Movement and attack speed reduced by 30%.
"Viscidus is frozen solid." - Movement and attacks cease completely. At this point the raid must switch to melee attacks to shatter him.

The Three Melee Stages: Once Viscidus is frozen he must be shattered. This needs to happen very quickly or he will thaw out and continue attacking the raid.

"Viscidus begins to crack." - Continue melee attacks.
"Viscidus looks ready to shatter." - Continue melee attacks.
"Viscidus explodes." - Viscidus shatters into multiple small "Globs of Viscidus" in a circle around the room. These Globs will begin to move towards the center of the room, slow at first, but continuously and steadily gathering speed. Once they reach the center, Viscidus will be reformed.

Globs of Viscidus:

Every time Viscidus is shattered, he splits into 1-20 Globs of Viscidus - each one representing 5% of his total HP. If he is below 5% when shattered, he will die. Each glob takes 10-15k damage to kill.
Globs must be assist trained to death, as DPSing one has no effect unless it is killed. Globs cannot be slowed or stunned so you must DPS fast and hard.

Transition Agro

Viscidus has a nasty tendency to aggro someone right as he reforms and run off after them. Since he is not chilled at all at this point, and he is untauntable, it is very difficult for the MT to catch up and get him back. Unless he is picked up and tanked very quickly, he will likely run around killing healers until the raid wipes. There are various theories as to what makes this happen, but it sometimes seems as mysterious as Onyxia's Deep Breath.
Some people say that DPSing blobs without killing them (especially with AoEs and Multishot) causes transition agro. This seems rather unlikely, as healers get transition agro as often as DPSers.
Some people say that players standing too far away from Viscidus will pull agro. In any case, it is not a good idea to run out of the room too early after a transition; if he agros someone out of the room he will instantly reset to 100%.

Some people say that Viscidus has a limited-radius agro wipe, or an agro wipe on a limited number of the closest players, and that the players standing further away from him should not do any healing or curing for 5 seconds during each transition.

deally, all raid should drink a NR potion 2 minutes before starting, so the cooldown fades. Then, refresh NR potion on every chance. Aim for enough dps to kill your assigned Glob, and then balance stamina with NR equipment. Low stats due to wearing green NR armor may not be the best to stand NR damage. If your raid uses CT_RaidAssist, the raid leader can check the NR resistance, and the number of NR potions on each member. Once you master the encounter, you may try drinking a pot only when you are low on hp.

Beware of the single bolt: it announces the landing point of a toxin cloud, which drains health real fast. There is an addon called Viscidus Raid Warning to whisper people suffering Toxin Cloud.

Viscidus is vulnerable to Frost (spells/abilities and Frost damage), therefore mages are at a premium for this fight. Warlocks equipped with a Frost damage wand (usually 1.5 sec) will be nearly as effective as a mage (1 sec casting on rank 1 frostbolt with improved frostbolt still faces the 1.5 sec universal cooldown).

The raid is required to get as many frost attacks into Viscidus as possible so that he will go through his several emotes and freeze. After he is frozen, a number of melee attacks must be done to shatter him into 20 or so small blobs. The raid must then kill these blobs in order to reduce Viscidus' health.

The triggering for his normal state into frozen seems to be a hitcounter of ~200 Frost based attacks/spells/abilities.

The triggering for him to shatter once frozen seems to be a hitcounter of ~75 (in 1.12) melee hits, regardless of damage. Caster DPS should melee too.

All stages have a 15 second time-limit, so if you fail to reach the next stage after that he reverts to his previous one. Time is of the essence. Once people start dying, the fight goes down hill. Killing Viscidus should take around 4 freezing phases to accomplish. Therefore, longevity is the key along with poison cleansing abilities. Mages and Druids are key to this encounter. Shamans make the fight relatively easier for the Horde. There might be changes in 1.11 or future patches allowing weapons with +X-Y frost damage to count as (part of) the number of attacks needed. This would mean that Hurricane and other weapons would be very useful.

Melee positioning

Most guilds keep their melee players away from Viscidus so that they don't take poison damage. They have to stay at least 100 yards away to avoid damage. This can be accomplished either by standing on the staircase outside Visc's room or by standing inside Visc's room far off to one side. The difficulty with this strat is that meleers will take one or two poison volleys while running in and out, and someone has to be in range to depoison them. However, with proper depoisoning, meleers takes much less damage and may not even need to wear full NR.

The alternative is to have high-NR melee players in melee range of Viscidus, DPSing him at all times. This does a minimal amount of damage to Viscidus, but it does hurt him a bit. The advantage is that, with players moving around less, it is far easier to keep in range of shaman totems (for Horde) and of your Druids for depoison. The tradeoff is that you take more direct Poison damage (which is resistable), but hopefully you take less DoT damage (not resistable). You can also make use of Frost Oil to help freeze Viscidus.

For groups running it in TBC and beyond, let it be known you cant kill him unless you shatter him, we had were 15 manning it and had 2 shaman and a mage and after him being at 1% for about 5 minutes we eventually died/reset since he never once shattered. Took forever getting him to there and I would have thought we would get at least one shatter but I geuss you need a whole lot more hits then we were able to put out.

My group has been farming him for four weeks straight now, with a raid comprised of 10-20 level 80 players, a minority of whom had experienced AQ40 at 60.

His melee and poison damage alike are beyond marginal. Prior to downing him with a proper raid, my prot pally and a holy pally were able to bring him to zero health over the course of an hour, but unable to kill him due to insufficient melee attacks.

There is no timer on the freezing effect - however long it takes to deal sufficient frost attacks to freeze him makes absolutely no difference. Nor does the strength of the frost attacks matter; only the number. Absolutely any source of frost damage will trigger the freezing effect, whether a mage's Frostbolt, a hunter's Freezing trap, a shaman's Frost Shock, or a deathknight's Icy Touch. I myself use my old Frostguard to proc the freezing effect.

However, the shattering effect, which must be applied by melee attacks after Viscidus is frozen, is timed, and players have only a very short window in which to shatter him.

We have found it best to have all raid members - including casters and healers - close to melee range and wail on the boss when he freezes. Since most staves have a slow swing speed, we ask our staff users to remove their weapons when engaging the boss. At this point a shaman pops Heroism and all deathknights use Army of the Dead for additional melee attacks. A 15 man raid should easily have enough melee swings to shatter Viscidus.

With few sources of frost damage and level 80 DPS, Viscidus is invariably at zero HP when he is finally shattered. We have never seen him split and merge; he always has died instantly when shattered.

This last week, he dropped the Scarab Brooch.

Frost wands don't seem to work as of this writing. While slumming through AQ40 for rep, with the only sources of frost damage being me (resto shaman) and a holy priest with a frost wand, Viscidus didn't shatter until hit with exactly 200 frost attacks from me - 75 frost shocks and 125 frostbrand attacks exactly. The holy priest was wanding most of the fight and hit him 408 times.

This fight is pretty strange.

Viscidus does little damage. When you get him to 1 health his health stops lowering. Like I said he does little damage, in fact my group was able to hold him for about 10 minutes as I checked how to defeat him :). Anyway, when he gets to one health you must start using frost moves (Mages and Death Knights are important to this fight because they are the only classes that have frost spells). The chat log will display a message saying "Viscidus begins to slow", continue with frost. Next it says "Viscidus is freezing up", continue. Finally it will say "Viscidus is frozen solid!" (You will know this because.... well he will be in a giant frozen block of ice). When this happens stop using frost attacks. Soon more messages will appear. "Viscidus begins to crack" keep going, "Viscidus is ready to shatter", continue, "Viscidus Explodes!" When this happens Viscidus well... explodes. If he is at 1 health he will die, if not he will be seperated into little ozzes which will then reform back into Viscidus and the whole process must be repeated. So in this fight my groups prefer to ignore using frost moves a lot until he is at 1 health.

This boss is an homage to the old horror/sci-fi film "The Blob", in which a nearly-invincible slime monster from outer space was only weak to freezing temperatures. And fire extinguishers.

Viscidus can be duo'd; an enh shammy and a Surv specced hunter can manage it.

Essentially, the shaman uses dual Frostbrand weapon and frost shocks as the cooldown comes up. Eventually, he will get close to freezing. At this point, you may want to use Windfury on one or both of your weapons, and push him into being frozen using Frost Shock.

Once he freezes, the shaman pops Bloodlust or Heroism, and the Survival hunter pops a snake trap with Improved Traps or Trap Mastery or whatever it's called - the 14 snakes, the hunter's melee (dual wielding, not with a 2h) and the enh shammy's attacks under the haste effect are more than enough melee hits to shatter him. By the time he's ready to freeze, he's usually down to 1 HP anyway.

Healing is very simple, too. Healing Stream totem + chain heals from Maelstrom weapon are enough to keep you both going without any effort, and his poison is a joke at L80.

Just killed him in a full clear run, and if he doesn't get frozen by the time he hits 1 hit point, he still takes damage, but he doesn't die until you freeze then shatter him.

I tried doing this with 2 people. Just me and my friend. We didn't know the fight so we had him at 1 health and he wouldn't die. Then my friend remembered it but we didn't do enough damage. Anyway, the point is that it is most likely impossible to do this with 2 people. The room was filled with the poisonous slime things as well.

biggest waste of time ever trying to solo this as a blood dk. Lost track of how many times i hit with frost attacks, had at 1hp and room filled with the 1500 dmg gas/slime... I ran out of the room and hearthed, took about 8 minutes to get him to 1hp

This is my experience trying to solo him on an 85 DK, avg ilvl ~350.

First try: I went in as blood spec, just testing it, not having much of a clue how it was gonna work. It took almost 20 minutes of icy touch spam, to get him to "freeze solid", and when it did I was not ready and didn't stand a chance at shattering him in time.

Second try: Changed to my 2H frost spec, and enchanted my weapon with Razorice. Instead of 20 minutes, it now only takes a couple of minutes to freeze him, with howling blasts, frost strikes, and most important razorice procs. It takes about 20-25 seconds from second freeze phase to the last one, and in this phase I summoned my army of the dead. With this I was able to get him to second shatter phase, but didn't quite make it. I decided to reset and wait for army cooldown for one last try.

Third try: Difference now was that I had my regular ghoul up at same time as the army, but I still didn't make it. I just doesn't seem possible, but also not far away.

I think dual wielding two fast weapons and it might happen, but not sure about that even. And even if you do manage to shatter him, the question is how many of the globs you can kill before he merges. I'm guessing you won't be able to get them all. And for every merge, you'd have to wait another 10 minutes for army cooldown.

I'm calling it plausible, but not likely without a TON of effort.

Edit: Seems it has been done solo by a lvl 80 DK, found a video. If you get him to 1 hp, he'll die when you manage to shatter him apparantely. So it's just gonna be about getting him down there, and then manage a shatter and you're home free. So get 2 super fast weapons, and maybe some haste potions or similar, and I'm sure he'll go down.

Edit2: I went back and tried while dual wielding 1.4 one-handers. Still didn't make it.

So, when people say something is hard I take it as an invitation. I'm a feral druid, with no frost abilities. But how cool would it be if I could pull this off! So, I went and got a Brunnhildar Harpoon, and I put Deathfrost and Frost oil on it.

This worked quite well to freeze him. Staying mostly in bear form, I froze him 4 times before he got to 1HP, which sounds similar to what other classes with actual frost abilities are reporting. But I could not shatter him.

My strategy was to stay bear as he "began to slow" and as he "began to freeze", but shift cat and have savage roar up before he actually froze solid (my gear and spec is full Kitty DPS). I also tried to time it so I got Savage roar, but still had maxed combo points as he froze to immediately hit him with Rip, popped all cooldowns, go behind him and go nuts ... but it was never enough.

We duo'd it as 2 hunters, 1 BM and 1 MM. We got him down to 1hp like any other boss. Then switched to Brunnhildar bows to freeze him, then 3 snake traps (due to MM Readiness) plus the two pets (spirit beast and cat if it matters), and melee with 1.3attack speed daggers, to shatter and kill him. So we didn't need to shatter him more than once.

Verified: (Out of curiosity) A priest's Shadowfrost damage from Mind Spike counts as a frost effect toward the 200 count.

As everyone else has stated, it doesn't do any good unless you can melee a minimum of 5 hits per second for 15 seconds to reach your 75 hit shatter, but it's at least possible to completely freeze him using this method.

There are alot of good tips on how to take this boss down now at lvl85. DK and Hunter can apparently solo him. But other classes have a hard time, and have to bring friends. I will sum up some methods that are useful here;

All classes
-First of all, get a fast 1-hander(or two 1-handers if your class supports it).
-速度药水 is also good to have to speed up those melee attacks(you cant use it together with , so use the potion).
-If you have no classes with frostspells in the group, you need 布伦希尔达鱼叉, 布伦希尔达巨斧, 布伦希尔达弯弓, a weapon enchanted with 附魔武器 - 死亡霜冻, or a weapon encoated with 冰霜之油.
-Wand with frost damage does NOT count as a frost spell.

Priest
-心灵尖刺 counts as a frost spell.

Shaman
-嗜血 / 英勇 when he freezes for the haste.
-Dual counts as frost spells, but remember to change to before he freezes, and push frozen with just when getting close.
- counts as a frost spell.

Mage
-时间扭曲 when he freezes for the haste.
-冰风暴 counts as a frost spell.

Hunter
- and = 2 traps, and therefore 28 snakes. The boss is immune to nature damage, so you will get alot of "IMMUNE" warnings from the poison they try to inflict, but the melee attacks still count.
- counts as a melee strike, and wont reset your swing timer.
- should also count as a melee strike, if I remember correctly from back when training weapon skills were possible.

DK
-亡者大军 is 8 ghouls attacking with melee, including your regular ghoul and you, thats an army of 10 melee. To obtain 75 melee hits within 15secs, you need to hit 5 times per second, or each of an army of 10 need to hit 1 time every 2 seconds. I dont know how fast the ghouls attack speed are, but you should use 1-handers if you plan to solo it.
-死亡脚步(w/ ) gives 15% haste.
-, 被烧毁的雕文(寒冰锁链 glyphed) and 凛风冲击 does NOT count as frost spells.
-冰锋符文 on weapons do count as a frost spells.

At ~100 frost spell hits, the boss will emote once and change color slightly, at ~150 hits you will get a second emote, at ~200 hits he will be frozen and you will clearly see a frost trap-like thing around him. When he is frozen, you need to hit him ~75 times with melee attacks. All these attacks can do 1 dmg, the amount of damage doesnt count, only number of hits. (there is a mechanic where he will shatter into smaller adds if he become frozen above 20% hp, but as a lvl85 dps, you shouldn't have to worry about that)

Update 5.1 patch(inc 29th of November hotfix)
-He gets frozen after 20 frost hits, down from 200.
-To shatter him while frozen, you now need to hit him 30 times within 30 seconds, down from 75 hits within 15 seconds.
They are obviously letting people solo him now to farm for the new pet drop.

The most difficult part of this fight today is meleeing him before he unfreezes. Because characters are more powerful, groups tend to be smaller, leading to fewer available attacks. For this reason it is essential that everybody pay attention when it's time to shatter Viscidus, and be ready to start whacking on him the very second he is frozen solid. Be in position before this happens. The green gas slows your attacks, meaning move him so you're not standing on it when he is frozen. And be sure to pop your cooldowns, guardians, etc. Even the healers and casters should be attacking. Favor fast, spamable abilities over efficiency and damage. There is a very short window to do this in.

Just duo'd him as a hunter and a DK, not too bad, just added the frost rune on a couple one handed weapons, hunter dual welding daggers, all our weapons with frost oil. Hunter was BM with a spirit beast for heals, just popped my ghoul and my army of the dead, hunter meleed and trapped...with my lifebloom popped we managed. You have to time it right or wait 10 minutes for the army of the dead cds...

For those that like to "SOLO" old school raids still (level 60) in the true sense of doing it by themselves; and are mele DPS. This item would be useful to those classes that cannot cast frost spells when combating this boss: No'Kaled, the Elements of Death.

Apparently Froststorm Breath from a Chimaera pet does not count as frost damage when fighting Viscidus in AQ40. No hunter soloing here.

Soloed as lvl85 frost dk, nuked Viscidus to 1hp, waited for the emote that he starts to slow, popped army and pet ghoul, empower rune weapon and spammed Howling Blast and Frost Strike. Boss died with mere second to spare before breaking ice. Felt like a boss since this kill earned me also Brood of Nozdormu exalted achievement :) So deffinetly soloable (if you know how to)

The definitive amount of physical hits to shatter the boss is 150.
These physical hits can be melee auto attacks, pet hits, or special attacks that deal physical damage (I don't know about ranged attacks).

At 50 hits, the first emote will appear: "Viscidus begins to crack!"
At 100 hits, the second emote will appear: "Viscidus looks ready to shatter!"
At 150 hits, Viscidus will die (or explode into smaller blobs, if he wasn't low enough).

You can see the amount of hits needed in my DK video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3lU5E6miUo), where there is a hit counter in the chat frame (I originally only intended to confirm that it's more than 100 hits to shatter the boss, but it turned out so easy as a Death Knight that it resulted in an actual kill).

Anybody wanting to solo this boss without access to class specific pets is going to have a very hard time. Believe me, I've tried for days on my Rogue before giving it a shot with my DK.
The only possible way I can think of as of patch 4.3.4 would be a Troll in full haste/hit gear, the 巴罗夫仆人铃 trinket, the Troll 狂暴 racial ability additional to 风怒图腾 and 嗜血. Which of course requires another player, which makes it not a "real" solo kill anymore (because you need that other player, although he does nothing else but to provide the haste buffs).

You CANNOT Solo this at lvl 85 atm. you can bring him down to 1hp, but never able to solely kill it simply because you cannot do 75 melee hit with in about 5 sec by yourself. There is a report shows that 2 hunter with at least 1 readiness will be able to kill it (3 snake trap+cat pets+ 1.3 daggers). Tips: if you found out this after you pull, you can always run out and reset it like I do

I am not saying this is easy, but I just soloed it today June 12, 2012.

Took 5 tries, but as long as you have fast weapons and can summon alot of mobs at once it's doable.

(Frost DK with swords that have a 1.4 weapon speed + Army + Ghoul + haste pot for extra measure).

Yes, as someone states elswhere in this thread, the count is NOT 75, but 150.

I was super sceptical when I read this, as all sources everywhere state it is only 75. Also after watching his video twice, I didn't see any counters between the tons of numbers floating around on this custom interface. (Friendly tip: next time state where the counter is :-) ). That said massive kudo's, as he is right!

As a MM hunter 75 would be a walk in the park with two snake traps even when executed with bad timing. But 150 would be hard even with perfect timing. Two traps is 28 snakes and with pet and two fast daggers will do. Issue however is that hunters have minimum range and need to use trap launcher or walk in. I saw a YouTube video of some hunter with perfect placement, but I failed to get it right that way for about 8 times.

So I decided to do it the robotic way:

1) Get the Brunnhildar Bow
2) Get the haste battle elixer and optional some food and the WotlK 500 haste pot. (I did without.)
3) Get two fast daggers. The Dalaran 1.3 will do.
4) Create a super macro that uses all this stuff and all your other haste bufs (Lifeblood etc). So in essence a long list of /use and /cast ending with a /cast Snake Trap
5) Put it on your bar, and put readiness next to it, or make sure they are hotkey'd where you can quickly press them
6) Go to and nuke boss. I used first my better normal bow to speed up the stuff and switched when he was low health.
7) Use recount or so to count the exact number of hits of your chilled ability from the Brunnhildar Bow.
8) When you are at 199 hits/crits, stop dps, disable growl on pet (want use his focus on his special attack) and walk into minimum range.
9) Make sure you are at the absolute minimum range. Shoot and run into his center. This last shot should freeze him. Else repeat this step.
10) Press your maco, press readiness and your macro again.
11) Press kill command and raport strike when off cooldown
12) If you are a bit lucky the boss will shatter

Now, during all my years of wow I have collected a long series of trinkets with guardians. Almost all of them share cooldowns and some of them don't do melee, but in the end I notcied that the Horseman sword's Pumpkin Soldier do also melee and surprisingly the Dog Whistle from one of the bosses of Scarlet Monastery stack. So that gave me 4 extra melee adds.

Added them to the macro, but it was still close, but my 9th try was successful. Probably with practise it will go better though.

Mostly Raid Finder and Valor gear. (reforged Haste as primary stat)
Dalaran sword and a Hand of Edward the Odd, both Razorice.
Potion of speed
Elixir of speed or w/e
Shard of the Crystal Heart

Got him to 1 hp, then a few secons before he froze (like 5 secs after last warning) I used the potion and summoned the ghoul and the army, and then the trinket. Im not sure if the Hand of E. proc'ed...

He did it anyhow, I had no addons to count the hits or the time so I dont have those details, but trust me, it can be done.

Just wanted to add a bit more for any hunters out there looking to do this. I followed the general strategy of what MarcusF does below, but I used macros to automate ability usage a bit, killed him on my first try using it.

Macro 1:
/petautocastoff Growl
/use 13
/castsequence reset=15 Dire Beast, Snake Trap, Arcane Shot, Lynx Rush, Readiness, Snake Trap, Dire Beast, Lynx Rush

Macro 2:
/equipset 2daggers

The second of course requires you make an equipment set named "2daggers" which equips 2 daggers, I had to do it this way since they were identical vendor bought ones, and the first requires that you have a Barov Peasant Caller (which is /use 13 for the top trinket slot).

So same strategy more or less:

1. Bring boss to 1 health.
2. Equip Brunnhildar bow, track "Chilled" in recount/skada up until 199 hits.
3. Stop shooting (at 199), walk up near the center of the bosses hitbox.
4. Spam macro. The arcane shot in the macro will push him to 200 and he will freeze.
5. Hit the second macro at some point after the arcane shot fires to switch to daggers and start meleeing.
6. Hope he explodes. (perhaps I got lucky, but again only took one try for me using this method)

Lynx rush may overlap doing this, but I didn't find it made a difference. You may want to try moving the first LR up in the sequence if you are having issues but the difference will be minor. I did not use any consumables of any sort.

I tried Murder of Crows first instead of LR but they just don't attack all that fast. Perhaps in the original beta incarnation of AMoC it would be better, but now it just applies a dot that has an animation of crows attacking that just does X damage per 1 or 2 seconds, instead of bringing down a bunch of actual "units" that would all attack separately (which plus snake trap would probably have required nothing else).

Blizzard counts for about 10 frost hits. He froze after about 20 blizzards, but I had far too little melee damage to shatter him as a mage,

The patch notes for 5.1, which can be found here, state the following:

Viscidus now requires significantly fewer hits to freeze and shatter.

Hopefully this means he will be a bit easier to solo. =)

Easily solod by 90 BM hunter with a Chimaera pet, just have it spam Froststorm Breath and then unload with barrage, stampede, lynx rush, anything with multiple attacks or multiple pets to hit it.

Solo'd this today as a druid who's normally balance. Just swapped my OS to feral, kept most of my int gear on but swapped my MH/OH for a agi staff with Elemental Force enchant. The reason you want to be feral is for the melee version of Force of Nature (Which obviously swap to that talent for this), your gear/dps/rotation doesn't mean much. When you're on Viscidus the enchant will count as frost damage and freeze him; when you get the emote "Viscidus is freezing up" or whatever (The one right before he's frozen), stop doing anything but auto attack and let your energy stay topped. After a bit your autoattacks will freeze him; as soon as this happens, blow force of nature, mangle spam, tiger's fury as soon as your energy is too low to mangle anymore, ferocious bite, mangle spam some more and he should die.

I'm a balance druid and don't have a clue how cat works and even I managed to do it, so i'm sure a better player can manage it even more easily.

PS when you use Force of Nature, try to drop it near his backside or you'll lose melee hits to the trees running to get behind.

Just did this tonight following Kokiron's method as kitty druid dps. Took a few tries, but once I read to drop the treants behind the boss, he went down easy. No speed pots or other buffs, just a Brunhilder Spear and mangle spam/tiger's fury/mangle spam. You might want to drop the treants just a hair before he actually freezes solid to make sure you get the most out of them.

with 5.1 being live now, I tried this boss immidiatly on my retri pala.
The tactics on how to do it are exactly the same. you hit him with ice damage (ANY ice damage will suffice, spells, enchants, ice effect on hit, anything.) until he's fully frozen. then , like before, you need to hit him with melee, and the damage of these melee attacks is not important, it's about the number of hits.

I opened a ticket to a gm after I couldn't seem to get him down and gm confirmed that frost effects are needed to freeze him, and melee and only melee hits can break him . the number of hits required for him to shatter are roughly 50. (the gm also noted that he has not tried to do this himself but that the number of hits required were greatly reduced to about 50, and that it should be possible to do solo..)

in the end I had to ask a friend for help (warlock with melee pet) and we got him to shatter in the nick of time. I don't yet see how I should be able to get these amount of hits alone on my pala, but I'm sure other classes like DK with army of the dead, hunter with pet etc. etc. should be able to do this maybe with the use of the right cd's and stuff at the right time.

Got 维希度斯小水滴 after killing him, I realized after 10 minutes of attacking him at 1hp, my DK attacks didn't really do anything since I'm unholy, but I did notice that 心灵冰冻 and do infact freeze him even though they don't deal damage. Thought I'd let people who role DKs know if they were wondering. :)

Just tried doing this with me as a Mistweaver monk plus a Frost mage, we got him to 1% really easily, but didnt get passed the second message for the 'crack'. Then I went dual wielding as a Windwalker monk, popped Xuen/Fists of Fury and Timewarp, but it just wasnt enough. (I had two axes equipped, one with 1.6 and one with 2.6 speed)

So nothing really changed for us old raid fanatics, just as before the patch, 'soloable' but only bring the right classes.

Edit after the second nerf to Viscidus : We did the same thing, and it went down easypeasy :-)

lvl90 combat spec.

damage the boss to 1hp. then switch to 2x dagger with ilvl not higher than 164. becouse u have to use frost oil + deathfrost enchant.

pop killingspree when he frozed, then adrenalin rush and spam sinister.

p.s: also tired to kill him with regular slow weaps enchanted with elemental force. but i wasnt enought. or just i was unlucky. however this enchant makes the boss frozed also

For the Hunters

It was pretty straight forward

Go forth and purchase 布伦希尔达弯弓 (if you are not friendly with these giant blue women you will need to start 她们把男人都抓走了！ until you get transformed into one (like the 4th or 5th quest in the chain), then go and buy the bow.)
Have 群兽奔腾, 夺命黑鸦, 凶暴野兽 & off CD and good to go.
Just remember he is immune to nature damage so no need for serpent sting.
Pull Viscidus as normal using your normal bow and favourite pet. Nuke him down to 1hp (making sure not to blow the above CDs) and have fun praticing your raiding skills by keeping out of the green stuff on the ground.
At 1hp switch bows and monitor what's happening to Viscidus. At 1hp it's no longer about the damage you do, it's about the number of times you freeze him. You're going to use that bow right up until the end so at no point stop firing on him.
When Viscidus turns dark blue and is in "freezing up" stage (stages: slow > freezing up > solid) blow the above CDs making sure to pull him into the snake trap and continue shooting him with the Brunn bow. The stages happen fast so before long he will be frozen solid with your snakes pecking at him (yes they do nature damage BUT they also count as melee.)
At frozen solid stage, with your crows, beasts and your snakes all 'melee' damaging him he shatters and you haven't needed to lay a hand on him yourself because all those spells/traps have given you your melee quota to shatter him.
Another strat is laying two snake traps down right before frozen solid stage, two snake traps is also enough to shatter him.... I just like the one with all the beasts because it makes me feel all queen of the jungle like.

If he 'cracks' instead of shatters he is back to his 1hp self, just rinse-repeat the steps until you shatter him.

This method has helped me solo him on a lvl90 (in greens) and lvl89 (dungeon blues/greens) & just scrapped in on my lvl86 hunter... and I always say it but I'm not a skilled player so if the above worked for me it'll work for you.

Mages

I like being captain obvious so I'm going to say "go frost" save CDS and mirror image and frost orb till frozen solid stage, then pop them. My mirror images and orb did the trick of shattering him.

Extremely easy for a hunter to solo.

1 - Tame a Chimera pet
2 - Cast froststorm breath till he is fully frozen
3 - Throw snake trap, beastial wrath and other CD's and nuke hard
4 - repeat till dead.

90 rogue strategy: Using two 1.7 daggers plus Elemental Force, I had no luck relying on my usual abilities. Remember, it's purely about number of attacks, so when he froze I popped a haste pot + Adrenaline rush and then spammed the hell out of Shuriken Toss, whilst keeping in autoattack range. When down straight away with that strategy. No pet though :(

Just soloed him on my 85 enh shaman. Had 2x frostbrand weapon and using frost shock to freeze. once frozen had to pop all offensive cooldowns to shatter him. took a few tries.. downed in about 30 mins.. no pet though.. have only gotten the pets off of chromag and maexx so far. everyone else no luck..

Hey Warriors! Viscidus is an absolute cakewalk for us. After toying around with ideas (I really wish my Crate of Kidnapped Puppies ideas would have worked), it hit me.

Here was my setup:

(2x) 1.70 Daggers, both with 元素之力. - I just purchased a few level 88 Agility daggers, you don't need anything good at all, you just want Elemental Force to be freezing him as much as possible.

(1x) 激流药剂 - This is overkill. But I wanted to come in fully prepared, so I popped this on. You should be able to do fine without one.

- This is the bread and butter. At a 0.5s cast time, you can send these little bastards screaming at him by simply spamming the button, over and over.

Quick rundown:

Well, it's rather simple. Start wailing on him in melee range, just keep going nuts, your 元素之力 should be cranking on him repeatedly, with the fast daggers. His freeze sequence displays 3 messages total.

"Viscidus is slowing down!" - Don't worry about it, just keep cranking on him.
"Viscidus is freezing up! - When you see this, it's a good idea hover your Heroic Leap target a bit out of melee range. Throw does not work in Melee Range.
"Viscidus is frozen solid! - BOOM baby, nail Heroic Leap, face him, and start unloading daggers as fast as you can. It'll be more than enough to force him to shatter.

Once he shatters, he explodes into smaller Oozes, take out as many as you can, a nice Bladestorm where they group up in the center could take care of it pretty quickly.

If you don't get all the slimes, no problem, just repeat the proccess until you dwindle them all down!

I'm sure this can be done in any Warrior spec, but the dual-wielding daggers in Fury spec makes it go much quicker. I hope some of this can apply to other classes as well!

After many attempts I finally killed im as a Ret Pally, Here's what I did:

I bring him down to 1 HP with my normal weapon and then swap in a 1h 1.7 second speed mace with 附魔武器 - 元素之力. It seems to take roughly 20 Elemental Force hits to freeze him solid (10 for slow, 5 for freeze, and 5 for frozen solid). I'm using 激流药剂, 香浓酸奶, and popping 速度药水 right when he is frozen solid.

As far as abilities, I was having trouble until I specced into Sanctified Wrath. About when I think he is going to freeze (about 19 elemental force hits - tracked in Skada) I pop Guardian of Ancient Kings and Avenger's Wrath with five holy power and when he freezes I alternate between Templar's Verdict, Hammer of Wrath, and Crusader Strike - whichever is off CD or closest to. I imagine for any class, popping CDs that increase your haste or ability to spam physical/weapon abilities will make this seem more possible.

It seems like a lot of trouble to get it done and I think it should be easier if it's intended to be soloed, but no doubt it is possible (even though I feel like I got lucky).

Edit: ...and the pet didn't drop for me :(

Balance druid

- Enchant a weapon with 附魔武器 - 元素之力, this is key

- On frozen phase keep following spells up: , 月火术, 阳炎术, 斜掠 in feral form, , and auto attack + when u got energy for it.

Boss will die very fast during frozen phase with only these things on him, no need to buy potions and whatnot like many others apparantly did for this encounter.

Failed on my 90 feral druid - totally unprepared for this guy (leave the room and he resets). Rather than get him a weapon with a frost/elemental enchant, I grabbed my old 85 DK; he's blood but did the job - didn't use death strike, instead used to chill him and for damage (didn't need heals, and preferred a microscopic amount of vengeance if possible). When he froze (he gets bluer and bluer and ice finally stuck in ice), pop army and loot.

The boss was apparently hotfixed last night, and is now possible to solo as a Retribution Paladin, not sure of the changes but i was atleast able to get it using a 1.6 Speed weapon with Elemental Force, and then just popping everything when he froze.

Soloed as a mage equipping a dagger for melee hits plus the help of this trinket. The boss freezes at exactly 20 hits from frost damage. Heroism was not neccessary as the guardian and I were able to shatter the boss just in time before he thawed. It took me 3 freezing phases as there are many, many blobs to kill (20, I believe) and they move slowly but eventually become really, really fast to kill.

As of 5.1 Blizz nerfed the number of hits to freeze, and shatter this guy. So, this is totally soloable now with just Frost oil on your weapon.

If you want to speed it up, and can weild them, go pick up a frosty weapon from Warsmith Sigfinna (polearm, bow or axe) and put both Deathfrost and Frost oil on it.

I froze him in about 30 seconds with an enchanted polearm, and killed him in about 5 minutes as a kitty druid. The just frost oil technique takes 15-20 min.

For a caster having troubles shattering this thing alone, try using a couple of pet trinkets like 巴罗夫管家铃 if you still have that on your bags, C'thun's tentacle trinket also helps,!

Just solo'd myself as 90 mage with those, hope this helps!

Soooooooooo, this was recently hotfixed to be soloable by ANY class. After patch 5.1, I tried and it just didnt work. I just went in about two minutes ago to try again after hearing about the hotfix.

DPS as normal as a fury warrior. Put elemental force on my offhand throw away 2h 3.6 speed sword, and go to town. He started freezing up, and then froze. He stayed frozen long enough for me to shatter him. I didnt use any haste pots/speed enchants or anything. Just Elemental force on one wep is now enough.

Edit: I did nothing special other than the typical Fury warrior "Smash that guys face in".

As a ret paladin I just bought some level 88 healer spell power mace (1h) and put elemental force on it. The fight took 2 minutes and 49 seconds. Hope that helps someone.

Soloed today as an Affliction warlock using Grim of Service, popped DS:M and Grim of Serve, with 2 felpups and the 30% haste it was a easy win, wait till he is at one hp and frozen to do this though. Weapon was Loshan, Terror Incarnate Normal Mode, a 2.20 speed sword.

Just wanted to add my quick strat on solo-killing this boss as a Balance Druid (During patch 5.1).

I got myself the 布伦希尔达鱼叉, got it enchanted with 死亡霜冻, and made sure I had chosen and off cooldown.
I basically nuked him with normal Balance rotation and made sure I got a few swings in on him as I went. Don't get him frozen until he's at least 10% remaining, as you aren't a feral druid :)

Once he was low enough that I was happy with, I put up my dots and kept melee'ing him until he froze. Once frozen, I popped Heart of the Wild, jumped into Cat form and dps'd him down, using the physical damage mechanic.

Easy :) Good luck to the fellow Druids out there!

Solo'd as a 90 Demo Warlock, with Felguard as my pet. Once frozen I popped another Felguard off Grimoire of Service and hit Felstorm. This was enough for him to be shattered.

Just soloed him as Demonology warlock. I usually play as Destruction however was unable to shatter him once he was frozen. I changed to Demo (which I haven't played in a loooong time), summoned up the Felguard, burned him down to 1hp, waited until he froze and then using the Grimoire of Service summoned up a 2nd Felguard and along with the 2 minions just wailed away on him with my staff.....job done.

Note that I didn't use any frost damage whatsoever...no oil, no enchant, no special weapon.....just my Inscribed Serpent Staff with Jade Spirit enchant.

And of course, after all that he didn't drop the pet :(

If you are looking to do this as a solo mage post 5.1 get a trinket that summons a melee pet such as 魁麟雕像. When you freeze the boss use time warp while wielding a fast dagger and with your chosen pet out and you should be able to get enough melee hits to kill him.

Managed to do it on mage with the following:

A 1.6 speed weapon, any will do but I used 毒心之刃魁麟雕像
Got him to 1% then froze him with Ice Lance spam.
Once he was frozen, I used the statuette, lifeblood, time warp and 咔啡压榨机, got me to just a hair above 50% haste and was able to shatter him 20-25 seconds in.

i solo twin emperors as prot warrior using 450IL weapon 7297k damage the strat i did was stack on a wall so the caster boss cant knock u back and basic he cant keep up on heals on my current gear which are all blues

I just did this on my priests recently, and it seems like shadow fiend does not work on Viscidus as he is Frozen so i did not have enough melee but then i remembered a trinket i found from a rare in Mist of pandaria 陶制碎片 it summons a Terracotta Warrior for 10 minutes and with this "Pet" and my auto attacks i had enough melee to shatter Viscidus. This item can be dropped by a rare in valley of the four winds "Jonn-dar" http://www.wowhead.com/npc=50351. So if you get this Pet and have frost spells and a decent 1hander you should have enough to shatter this boss and get your mini pet ! My mace had 1.9 atk speed.

As a warlock, if you're noticing that Viscidus is freezing and you have absolutely no clue why, here's what it is: . I noticed that when I went to solo him that while I was getting him ready to freeze and shatter that he was freezing all on his own, and pretty quickly too. I confirmed this simply by using the ability to disable the passive, and he didn't freeze again until the cooldown was up.

So, warlocks? If you want an easy solo, take a quick dagger, , and maybe use the Grimoire of Service's Felhunter and it will be a snap. No Frost Oil or any of that other nonsense required.

Did it today on my Warlock just by being in Demo spec, using my Felguard, using Demon Hunting glyph. My equipped weapon was my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole , so you do not need to be optimal at all now.
I guess with all the imps, Felstorm, and my Dark Apothosis skills, they just got the required amount of melee attacks. No idea what was freezing him but its done anyway.

Any class should be able to do this after getting a relevent frost weapon from Warsmith Sigfinna now

Soloed as a Demo Warlock with Felguard.

Talents: Soul Leech, Mortal Coil, Dark Bargain, Burning Rush, Grimoire of Service (Felguard), Kil'jaeden's Cunning

Tactic:
With patch 5.1 Viscidus became possible to solo. In addition, he can now drop 维希度斯小水滴. At the beginning of the fight start to generate . I ran some tests on the freezing of the Boss and I know how he can be frozen without the use of things like 冰霜之油/公式：附魔武器 - 死亡霜冻. When you have 1000 , use and start spamming . I noticed that this ability freezes Viscidus, because it deals chaos dmg which is dmg in all seven schools: Physical, FROST, Fire, Holy, Shadow, Nature and Arcane. When the Boss is frozen, use 魔刃风暴 and summon second Felguard via 侍从魔典. This should be enough to shatter Viscidus. After shattering him just kill him. Good Luck and Have Fun!

As a shaman, i can say that the hits from our elementals doesn't seem to count toward the 30 hits needed to break it.

I had everyting prepared, 19 frostshock, BL+cooldowns+fire elemental. I hit it 28 times, and my elem around 18 times, but he didn't break.

So... i'm sad.

Edit : Tried one more time with searing totem, earth elemental, hast cd and bl. It really doesn't count neither our elementals hits or our totems hit. Too bad.

Doable as a fury lvl 86 warrior ,405 ilvl tank gear with (86522) with normal tank enchant and (86527) enchanted with elemental force.
Had viscidus freeze thrice and made it shatter every single time, Second Wind is mandatory and Bladestorm helps.

Very trivial now as a hunter with 布伦希尔达弯弓 and a chimera pet. I'm sure the bow isn't even necessary, just hit the boss with chimeras channeled attack, freezes very quickly.

Also throw out a snake trap after he freezes solid, helps make the shattering that much easier.

How to kill him being Elemental Shaman:

1. Enchant your weapon with your
2. Get him down to 1 hp using your rotation
3. Keep hitting him all the time with your weapon
4. Spam and on Cooldown
5. When he freezes completely ONLY USE 英勇/嗜血 and (Do not use )
6. He should be dead shortly

For you Droods out there, the 布伦希尔达鱼叉 not only procs in animal form, but you can switch to your regular weap while he's frozen to crank the damage. I didn't get the pet on my first try but as guardian spec I never got below 95% health.

I just did it today as a WW Monk, no ice enhancements or items. Boss went down to 1% HP, about 30 seconds later he froze solid. Not sure why exactly, but maybe these items are no longer necessary?

I enchanted a 染血的监狱小刀 with 死亡霜冻 and used 冰霜之油. Then I went in on my warlock level 85, got the boss to 4% started melee attacking him, froze him up, shattered him with help from my voidwalker, an extra felhound and an infernal. It was almost to easy. Then mailed the dagger to my rogue - killed it again. I am going to mail it to my hunter and druid aswell. DK and shammy are on their own.

I would have used a faster dagger, but it needed to be between level 60 and 165 to use both enchant and oil. Favored the non-binding to use it on more characters - best dagger for that is 迟钝的剃刀 or 锋利的匕首 with the speed of 1.60.

Just a note for casters: use a fast weapon and any melee pet that you can summon (using trinkets or spells) once he is frozen. You just need 30 hits, and he is frozen for 30 seconds (after 5.1). I don't know if there is any weapon that has a speed of 1.0 or lower, but you'll probably need some more melee hits besides your own.

I'm an elemental shaman, and I used a dagger with speed = 1.80. I had on it, and used as well. When he was frozen, I summoned my . There was no need to pop 嗜血.

BTW, if you bring him very low and then shatter, you won't have to deal with the smaller oozes 维希度斯水滴 after he shatters. I had forgot about those, and the first time I shattered him there were too many of the oozes and couldn't kill them before they joined using Rejoin Viscidus. I had to wait for my earth elemental to come off of CD before freezing him again :-(

Melee can enchant their weapon with Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force and then just DPS as normal. When he gets to 1 hp you'll need to keep hitting him for a short while till he shatters. Easy.

I just soloed him on my 90 Frost Mage. I had 激流药剂 (990 w/alchemy) and 香浓酸奶 haste buffs and when he froze at 1% I popped my , 时间扭曲, 魁麟雕像 and switched to 废土军刀 for a speedier weapon. Didn't manage to get the pet but now I know what works for next time.

if u are a class witch do not have frost ability u can buy from auction house 附魔武器 - 元素之力 and enchant any melee weapon as u like that is higher than 372i lvl

Very easy solo as a 90 Ret pally. Used Seal of Righteousness, Kings, and the enchant that MentalmMinD mentioned, Elemental Force. He froze at 50%, and at 1%, at the second freeze I popped cd's, Avenging Wrath, Holy Avenger, Execution Sentence, with added Lessons of the Darkmaster (heroic) and Synapse Springs from Engineering. Was able to easily kill him this way. Hope this helps.

EDIT: could've used Seal of Truth, but it worked either way. :)

For my part, as a frost mage i used 波刃短剑 and 狂速药剂 (there was no 速度药水 in the AH)
and this trinket 魁麟雕像.

My melee attack speed with 狂速药剂 and before 时间扭曲 was 1.45.

1-DPS him down to 1HP
2-Wait for him to be frozen
3-时间扭曲 + 魁麟雕像. + melee attack
4- THE END.

Cake as a demon warlock. This took me a while to figure out- while I was whacking away at him in aff at 1hp trying to figure out what was going on, I read the comment about how Deathfrost would work. Being an enchanter, I decided to try Elemental Force, and whattaya know, it works :)

Unfortunately, I was unable to get the required number of hits in as aff. Soulstoned, suicided and switched to demo.

In demo, used meta, glyph of imp swarm, glyph of demon training(makes imps shoot 3bolts instead of 1), grimoire of service, and doomlord. Popped em all at once when he froze, it was cake.

If you're having bad luck with the 陶制碎片 dropping, you can also use your old vanilla Seal of Ascension and Vanquished Tentacle of C'Thun at the same time. As a priest, I was able to get him down with just those two items.

咔啡压榨机 is the ticket for making Viscidus much more of a breeze! It's worth getting since it's also the only haste pot as of 5.1, beating the one from the previous expansion, that people are still using on Viscidus, by x8: 速度药水).

Other things you may already have and can use are 魁麟雕像 and/or 陶制碎片 - you can have both of these trinkets working at the same time! Hits from pets help a lot, but I didn't even need the trinkets with this "pot".

As a Retribution Paladin, all I had to do was to use the Kafa along with Guardian of Ancient Kings as soon as he froze. Any 1H weapon you currently have as high as 2.6 speed will work, with the only special thing being the 附魔武器 - 元素之力 enchant (much better than 附魔武器 - 死亡霜冻 both in procs and damage, as well as cost to make, just requires a higher ilvl weapon). No swaps, no worries, no low level stuff, high enough damage and speed all the way (you can/should use your best weapon for taking most of his HP down though).

You might rather bring a faster weapon, possibly from vendors (the fastest are 1.6, and the only non-Dagger/Fist Weapon are soulbound maces that cost 110g+, so they're a bit of a nuisance), or also use 激流药剂.

Most people have actually spoken about using trinkets to assist with this kill. While my trinket farming failed, I did manage to get the offhand 远古角石魔典 to drop for me off 奥妮克希亚

Got the kill as follows:

1. Equipped a 1.6 speed weapon
2. Used 激流药剂
3. Engaged and DPS'd the boss down to below 20%
4. 心灵尖刺 x 20 times to freeze him
5. 远古角石魔典 + 速度药水 + 摧心魔 + Melle Attacking

The effort was well worth it as 维希度斯小水滴 dropped on my 1st kill.

SOLO as Ret Pally under 5.1

I expect this boss should be SOLOABLE by ALL Classes under 5.1. The following is how I solo'd it, (and got a nice pet) as a lvl 90 Ret Pally OS with ilvl 360 gear.

First I ran up with my regular outfit and proceeded to beat onhim withOUT using any CDs.

Once he got to like 10% health, i then pulled out my cheap AH weapon (in my case a 66g lvl 88 polarm) enchanted with Elemental Force as it is a LOT cheaper than the Deathfrost enchant.

At this point I beat on him until he froze solid, again using NO CDs.

Once he freezes solid then I popped the following:
1: GanK
2: Power up Macro consisting of: Holy Avenger (lvl 75 Pally TALENT) & Avenging Wrath (not needed for this fight, but part of my standard Macro).

Note: Holy avenger grants 3 HoPo per ability, thus allowing you to alternate a basic ability with TV and increasing your effective strike speed to once per GCD for as long as Holy Avenger is up (18 secs) which is enough to finish him.

I then proceeded to beat the tar out of him alternating CS, Judge, or Exo with TV.

I Did NOT use a potion of any kind. My base swing speed with the AH Polarm was: 3.34 (3.50 weapon base with 1,955 Haste rating)

Found this hard as an affily warlock (especially as I forgot that I had heard about the frost mechanic and just tried to nuke), so I read up on the suggestions in here and hope the below helps other locks.

Tactic that worked for me:

DPS him down as normal and made sure I was landing hits with a weapon enchanted with Deathfrost. I used 1.9 speed Thunderfury as by chance I'd put the chant on it way back when I got the sword but any weapon will work. Proc is not that often so just keep plugging away. Once he got to 1hp I used drain life as needed as it heals you normally even if he has 1 HP and obviously move out of poison :)

After that, just watch your chat window for the messages to time your nuke as he changes colour to blue on the first message - "Viscidus begins to slow" but this is not the time to nuke. He goes a darker colour with the message "Viscidus is freezing up" and then finally "Viscidus is frozen solid" which is when you attack as he is encased in ice.

Soon as he was frozen, used a trinket and stopped casting, just used melee. I had both Barov Peasant Caller and Defender of the Timbermaw but I hadn't realised they are on shared cool down so I could only activate 1 but the Timbermaw Ally and my Felhunter were enough.

Extremely easy to kill Viscidus as a feral druid (in 5.1).

Bought the polearm from Storm Peaks that deals 5 frost damage, enchanted it with Deathfrost (15g x 2 for Primal Shadow, 30g x 2 for Primal Water) and ~20g for the Polearm = 110g.

Dps'ed the boss down to around 600k hp left, then I switched weapon to the Polearm, he became frozen after 10 seconds, then I killed him with my normal weapon equipped.

No CD's needed or something, just get in there and get your pet.

*BTW, Got my pet from my first kill, yeey :-)

附魔武器 - 元素之力 and Elixir of the Rapids.

I just soloed him as a shadow priest.
First, I equipped 春季花朵 and 巴罗夫管家铃. Spring Flowers has lower swing time than my staff.
Then I dps'd him with regular spells to get his health down to 1. (If you don't do this first, he shatters into a couple dozen small blobs, and if you can't kill them fast enough, they merge and become full-sized Viscidus again.)
Next, I hit him with Mind Spike until he froze (20 times). After the 19th cast, I summoned 机械格林奇 and the Barov peasants, and cast Mindbender so they would be ready when Viscidus froze.
That was enough to take him down. Didn't get the pet, though. : /

As a hunter i just got a couple of 1handers and applyed frost oil on both of them and just went melee dps.When he becomes frozen just use Rapid fire,Barrage,Stampede,Dire beast and snake trap for the extra hits.It worked perfectly.Easy to solo.Just get an alchemist to create a couple Frost oils but get yourself a couple 30-40 lvl crap 1handers cause Frost oil cannot be applyed on high lvl weapons.Buy it from a vendor.IT can also be done by Taming a Chimaera beast from shadowmoon valley or northred.its an exotic pet and it has the Froststorm Breath ability.Its channeled and you can spam it manually.冰霜风暴吐息

Shadow priest 5.1.0

Equipped 小巫毒面具 (I suppose 袖珍巫毒面具 would work just as well, or even better) and 指挥官的徽章. Brought a 速度药水 as well, which wasn't entirely necessary.

Next, burned him down to 1%, then 心灵尖刺d him into freezing. You can of course mix in some 心灵尖刺s as needed before that - just make sure you don't freeze him too soon - the shatter will create tiny globules which are rather hard to kill completely. Make sure you are already melee'ing him as well, saves a little time in the 30-second window.

When frozen, popped both trinkets, popped 暗影魔 and kept melee'ing him. Viscidus goes boom, win and loot.

well, funny thing is... with the advent of bows and guns not requiring ammo, any class that has "Throw" (such as warriors) can do so WITHOUT daggers - haha

thanks to the posts of hellomynameis and Avantes, i was able to solo Viscidus as a level 90 warrior. i only bought the axe 布伦希尔达巨斧 (no daggers, no enchantments, no potions, no pets)

following the same instructions found in several posts here, i froze him... then switched to Throw, and shattered him easily.

but... the globules flew out in a ring and he reformed. but i just kept at it until i finally got him down. it took about 4 shatterings to finish him off.

for others who want to do it more elegantly than i did:
-- DPS him until he is at 1 hp
-- switch to your freeze attack until he freezes
-- shatter him with your fast attack for the kill
-- smile like a pro

The easy way for melee, I just tried it solo today, successfully (as a level 90 guardian druid) :

Go to Warsmith Sigfinna in the Stormpeaks. You may need to have done the prereq quests there in order to be able to speak to her (as you have to be auto-turned into a Hyldnir).
Purchase the Brunnhildar weapon you can use
Have it enchanted with Deathfrost, cheap enchant but not all enchanters have it (drops from Slave Pens event boss of Midsummer Festival)
Hit Viscidus with your regular weapon
When Viscidus reaches 1 HP, switch to your Brunnhildar weapon
You will freeze Viscidus quite quickly, and after that it will shatter and die (because he is <5% HP)
Loot corpse ^^

As for casters without frost options, sorry I don't know exactly, as there aren't any Brunnhildar dagger or mace ... :'(

Viscidus has been hugely nerfed: the attacks needed to be frozen seems to be now around 15 or something, and the time to shatter is very comfortable; I didn't use any haste potion or trinket and I have 3.8% haste only.

I've recently started soloing this boss for the pet on my warlock, and I've noticed that I've been able to freeze him without the use of ANY frost attacks or enchants/enhancements, and then shatter him with melee from my pet and myself. Do we no longer need frost to kill this boss?
Edit: Just for clarification, I do this in affliction spec with my voidlord tanking.

To any Dks trying to solo him as of 5.1, army of the dead works wonders!

Use frost spec, don't worry about gear or pots etc.
1. Get him down to 1 hp
2. wait for him to freeze
3. pop army
4. keep hitting and he'll be down in 2 seconds

I assume this will work for other classes that can either summon combat pets, even temporarily through a trinket or item or through a spell/ability.

(Patch 5.1) Easily solo'd with level 80 Ret Paladin, ilevel 239 (mostly badge gear and heroics). Just DPS with main weapon and heal as needed with Eternal Flame (he doesn't hit very hard at all). Move out of range of his 毒性震击 when it starts to pile up. Nuked him down to 1% then switched to 布伦希尔达巨斧. Once he was frozen I popped Avenging Wrath and Guardian of Ancient Kings...shattered...dead. Had a potion of speed on hand but didn't need to use it.

Hardest part was how long it took to get him down to 1%. He's got close to 2MM HP so it took a while for me. But I never even got close to dying.

Another helpful hint is that you don't have to kill 顽强的范克瑞斯 to get to Viscidus. You can just mount up on a normal mount (not a Quiraji Battle Tank as taking any damage will knock you off), and run to the corridor leading to Viscidus's lair. Once in the corridor Fankriss will reset to his room and you don't have to fight him. This was a boon for me as I've had trouble soloing him with this character.

Solo'd as a 90 Demo Lock (478 ilvl).
I used a 1.8 dagger I found in my bags, and enchanted with Elemental Force.

I had no trouble freezing him. I just kept my normal rotation up until he was at 1% and frozen. I then equipped my Horseman's sinister saber (the older 365 version) and popped the pumpkin soldiers, popped Wrathstorm on my Wrathguard, popped Ipm Swarm, and then auto hit him with the sword and he was dead.

I also didn't need to use my Terrorguard

I am 99.9% certain frost is still required to completely kill him.

BM Hunters can solo this with a Chimaera pet. Use the Froststorm Breath exotic ability until Viscidus freezes, then go all out. Might need to do it a couple times but still, cake walk at 90, and probably easily done earlier than that.

With a different pet, I was able to get him down to 1 hp, but he would not die or freeze until I used the frost spell from the Chimaera.

when he is frozen i recomend throwing in your stampede for the fast hits.

Scuffling on this guy.... 90 well gear'd Frost Mage... so I easily get him to 1 hp. After that, nothing doing. Spent about 15 mins doing everything I could to him, he would not shatter. Finally popped Mirror Image for agro and hearthed out. Any ideas? Thanks for reading this post.

As a frost mage this can be difficult to solo -> you cant hit him fast enough to shatter him, unless you use the 'crate of kidnapped puppies trinket'. These will attack him and he'll shatter in no time. Pop the trinket when the fight starts (the puppies last for 10 min) and it will be easy to solo.

As a solo Hunter (who didnt know the tactic at first and failed to nuke Visc) I found the easiest/quickest way was to fly to Silithus Northwestern borders, change spec to BM and tame Prince Lakma (White Chimaera - rare) that has the Froststorm Breath ability that you need to freeze Visc.
If you are already at Silithus, give it a try before going to the enhancement options, its a time saver.

For casters having difficulty reaching the melee count 一箱被诱拐的小狗 or similar can help. Your guardians' melee counts towards the total, 5 pups do the count quickly. I was looking though my inventory for haste pots and I happened to have it on me, made it a cakewalk.

How I did it:

Build max Demonic Power while u leave it with 1% hp, then make sure you refresh Corruption and Hand of Gul'dan Before then go to melee range before Switching to demon form THEN start spamming Touch of Chaos until he is frozen, then pop Grimoire of Service Felguard and Glyph of Imp Swarm, then your felguard use Felstorm and spam Fel Flame with a occasional melee attack betwen Fel Flames

Fire mage here. I had troubles with the melee part, of course. However, while looking at my staves (pvp and pve) I saw that my pvp was faster yet still couldn't shatter him with time warp going. I decided to take the stave off and use my fists. Any weapon under the 2.00 speed with haste WILL WORK.

I also felt accomplished beating up a raid boss with my fists.

Just confirming aequalsb's simple method works like a charm:

-- DPS him until he is at 1 hp
-- switch to your freeze attack (weapon) until he freezes
-- shatter him with your fast attack for the kill
-- smile like a pro

I was able to solo this with no issues as an 88 Mistweaver Monk bringing only 布伦希尔达鱼叉, with no trinks, potions, or enchants using only Jab/Tiger Palm spam to shatter.

No pet but at least now I know I can farm this boss.

After many attempts, I found a way to solo this as a Shadow Priest. Mind Spike does the frost damage needed, and I used this attack only, as it uses next to no mana. When Viscidus froze for the final time, I pulled out my shadow fiend and used Quilen Statuette with Wind Reaver's Dagger of Quick Strikes (probably any high dps 1.8 speed dagger will do). Thanks to the RNG, I got the pet on the first *cough* successful try. Probably still kill him for fun now that I have this down!

Heres a tip for Boomkins :)

As a Balance druid this is very difficult as your weapon swings arnt fast enough. I changed to Cat spec however and used a lv 77 dagger with Elemental Force, used this on him to freeze him, then killed him using Mangle and Rake :)

Had to get on here and post this just because I thought it was hilarious. Just solo'd this on my frost mage. Got him to 1% and just sat there hitting him with my weapon for like 5 minutes straight. Couldn't get enough hits off in time even with time warp. Looked in my bags for some speed potions, trinkets, anything. And the only thing I had was Dog Whistle so I thought what the heck? So I reset, got him back down to 1% waited for him to freeze, started hitting him with my bare hands, hit time warp, and popped the trinket. He is soloable as a retri pala....even if it takes a while. No need for speed potion or any consumable. Here's how I did:
-get his hp low
-change to a fast 2 hand weap (used a 1,8) with Deathfrost
When he freeezes (might take quite a while so heal if you need since even if his hits aren't so hard you might take many of them)
-used my trinket (extra 3,5k haste for Jade Charioteer Figurine)
-used Guardian of Ancient Kings (yes aparently his hits do count)
My inicial haste was 4,1k so maybe if you got more you could have a slower weap or skip some part.

Well, I solo'd this guy twice on my rogue so far.

I used frost oil on the Claw of the Phoenix from Tempest Keep (I have it because I transmog'd my fist weapon to it, because it looks so darn cool). Just melee'd him on auto attack, he shattered twice, and BAM! down. It does take a while because you have to rely on the frost oil procs, so bring some pots, if your gear isn't too good, but at 90, he's a cakewalk. I nearly went to make a cuppa while dps'ing him.

When he freezes, use your Sinister Strike, if you're combat, or just Mutilate, should work, anything harder hitting than auto attack really, and Fan of Knives knocked down two globs pretty quick.

Just remember to keep walking now and then, or you end up with a lot of stacks of this glowy green stuff (Can't remember the name, but glowy green stuff works), it's apparently not too friendly, and I noticed my attacks were slowed by it.

Rogues, due to our immense dual wield attack speed, can easily solo Viscidus with Elemental Force which I coincidentally enchanted on my Golad fang whilst levelling in Pandaria. For the wings I still carry the main hand with me, so for sake of soloing this boss I'll keep it with Elemental Force. Of course, Deathfrost is probably better as it is a guaranteed frost hit. On average, Elemental Force would increase your time on this boss by 3-fold (minute instead of 20 seconds at high ilvls).

If you are soloing this boss as a hunter it is best to have a pet who can deal frost damage like a chimera, tried killing him with my raptor summoned but you can't get him below 1hp without frost.

Solo'd as an 85 Blood DK without any issues and nothing fancy at all.

Used my regular 2h weapon, threw on Rune of Razorice for the frost damage, and did my normal rotation. He ended up splitting a couple of times due to freezing so fast (80% health), but I never even used Army of the Dead. Used my ghoul and DPS'd him down to 1%, he froze, and I finished him off. No CD's past my normal rotation ones.

Another kill, still no pet >.<

Soloed as a lvl 85 holy priest with quest gear. Got a weapon with 附魔武器 - 死亡霜冻 , started taking down his health, he was frozen when I got him to 200k, popped mindbender and used 巴罗夫管家铃 and 指挥官的徽章, he was ready to shatter in no time. I suppose you can use the timbermaw trinket 木喉防御者 as well in case you don't have the barov bell.

Just managed to solo this as a hunter without using any special bows, oils, or other similar tricks mentioned here. I apologize in advance for I didn't pay too much attention to the specific mechanics.

BM spec with a Chimera pet. Frost Breath works as frost damage for this fight. I took him down to 1hp and started popping Frost Breath until he was frozen solid. Then I simply unloaded on him with everything I had. Went down like a chump and I headed out with a shiny new battle pet for my trouble.

If you don't get the freezing mechanics down on the first try, just keep trying. As an 90 il527, his attacks didn't pose much of a threat.

As a mage I got him to 1 hp, and then I couldn't do get pass that, because of obvious lack of melee skills. Took me some tries, but this is what I did :
Damaged him to 1 hp and frozen, and then I popped 一箱被诱拐的小狗.

Warlocks:

to chill him:
use a wand with frost damage and autoattack OR
use a weapon with elemental force (I keep a BoA Dissector's Staff of Mutation on hand to pass between alts). more dots. seems like ticks work faster to apply elemental force. I kept Rain of Fire and Immolate up and he froze up without any real effort on my part.

to shatter him:
you can simply UNEQUIP your weapon (attack speed with bare hands is faster than most weapons) AND
use a melee demon (VW works fine) AND
...throw an Infernal on him. it took this last one to shatter him for me.

Ironically, the one spec that cannot solo this? Frost mages. No way to get the melee haste high enough to kill it, even with a 1.6 speed dagger in hand, Hurricane enchant (best pure haste enchant out there), and time warp. Ended up getting a 克苏恩的触须 that dropped later in the raid, circled back, and used the trink to defeat him.

I don't see that this has been mentioned but there is no need to buy 布伦希尔达弯弓 if you are a hunter with a BM spec. Tame a chimaera and it's Frost Breath 冰霜吐息 will freeze him just the same. Easily soloable as BM with this pet.

Frost Mages:

There is a way to make this work for you, solo. If you are sitting in the instance wanting a 'right now' fix, this will take a little work. It isn't hard work, but may take you a day or so.

First go get a Kafa Press. It's from the Frozen Trail Packer, who is in a cave in the Kun-Lai summit. If you haven't already picked up this item, it would behoove you greatly to do so. Add it to your permanent dps dump macro, as it is usable anywhere and one heck of a haste boost. He is a "rare spawn" but I have seen him pop many times on multiple toons.

As for the fight:

Burn him down to 1 HP (to be safe). You can only use the above item once per combat (CD doesn't start until combat ends). Once he is at 1 HP, wait until a fresh "Freeze" starts. At that time pop Time Warp and the above item (Kafa Press) and start melee (dagger) attacks. You should beat the timer by 4 to 10 seconds with a 1.6 speed dagger. I have Tyrannical Gladiator's Spellblade and it worked fine.

On my mage last night, went frost on this guy. Tried the remove weapon and slap him trick, didn't work. Then I activated 一箱被诱拐的小狗 , used blizzard to freeze him. Between slapping and the puppies, had no problem.

I've always been taught to use what I've got on hand so that's just what I did. Level 90 Spriest, solo'd:

No weapon (beat him up with my bare hands)
Trinkets where the 魁麟雕像 and the 黑暗苦烈酒咒符

Brought him down to 1hp because I could, mind spiked until frozen, popped the trinkets and beat him up. It was close but it did the job. Now to farm every week until I get my pet.

It is confirmed, Box of Kidnapped Puppies does work. Just did this on my Ret Pally using Element Enchant on a 1 hander, Elixir of the Rapids with Guardian of Ancient Kings and Box of Kidnapped Puppies. Happy Hunting.

I decided to make a post out there for all of you loser mages that cannot solo this boss @ level 90.
Neither could I.
For about a solid hour, I strained trying to figure out why I couldn't kill him and then read the comments on this site and found out I had to melee to kill him (I literally facepalmed myself). So I gave up, and as I was walking to the twin emperors, I ran into this wonderful beauty 其拉勇士, who gives a 50% attack speed buff. So I kited this bad boy all the way back to Viscidus, lowered him to one health, and waited for the champion to pop his 50%. I then froze the blob as fast as I could with Icy veins + time warp, and shattered him with the 50% AS from the champions buff and the 30% from time warp. You can use other trinkets too from what I've read, but just doing this requires no forethought and got me the kill. Hope this helps!

P.S. it helps to kill the pack mobs on the way to the champion and back, because if you don't he will auto aggro mobs if you get too close to them. Also you generally want to be as quick as possible when clicking him to get that final 30th hit. Dunno if the orb + mirror images idea still works but this is how I did it and it worked for me.

As a dk I tried a bunch of things floating around, but nothing was really working for me. I could freeze him alright, but I don't think I was getting enough hits in to shatter him. Basically the best thing I came up with was get him to 1 hp, then howling blast until he froze solid then cast army of dead :D

As a frost mage with no melee trinkets I was completely lost with this guy. Found a site that suggested getting the Terracotta Fragment from the rare spawn in Valley of the Four Winds (by the Nesingwary place). Got the trinket, equipped a 1.7 speed dagger from the AH and got him down easily :)

After 30 minutes of fighting with my arms warrior level 90 item level 481, and more than 2 minutes is already too much on a super low boss like this if your item level is over 390!

I decided to do THAT :

"If u are a class witch do not have frost ability u can buy from auction house Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force and enchant any melee weapon as u like that is higher than 372i lvl"

BUT LISTEN, it won't work if you don't do something else: YOU HAVE TO ATTACK REALLY FAST WHEN HE IS FROZE. With this enchant, your weapon will transform Viscidius in a block of ice, SOMETIMES. So attack Viscidus with your best weapon. When he got 1 hp (heal point) AND he is in a block of ice, then massive attack him as fast as you can. Click everything that you can click to attack him. You have to attack very fast with a lot of moves or the block of ice will dissapear and he won't die.

Perhaps my English is not perfect, but im totally useful because it works. Also I'm able to say it in your language, you're probably not able to say it in my language.

Now do like i did and don't waste more time!

Oh, and if you attack with your own hands (no weapon), it ain't work, even if you use speed potion. You need some frost damage on a weapon.

All these posts can be summarized with a few simple facts:

Viscidus can not be killed without a frost attack of some kind.
If you go in there without a frost attack to solo him (like I did) you can reset him - just walk out of the room.
As you hit him with frost attacks he will gradually freeze solid. Once frozen he must be hit by a large number of melee attacks in a limited time (looks like 30 hits in 30 seconds) to shatter him and finally kill him.
You don't need to kill him to finish the instance, but he can drop a battle pet so it's worth a shot.

If you don't have a frost attack, you can:

Enchant your weapon to do frost damage. Elemental Force or Deathfrost
Use 冰霜之油 on a low level weapon.
Visit Warsmith Sigfinna and buy a frost-inflicting weapon.

If you don't play a melee class, shattering him once frozen may be difficult. Remember your melee DPS is not as important here as the number of hits within the time period is. You can:

Melee him with a fast weapon
Use a haste or speed potion or elixir to increase melee speed (or the 咔啡压榨机)
Bring one of the many items that summons some help:

陶制碎片
魁麟雕像
一箱被诱拐的小狗
巴罗夫管家铃 - No longer available in game, but if you still have one haul it out - I do so I think this idea is cool :-)
In season, try your 机械格林奇 from Winter Veil (doesn't use a trinket slot!)
There are actually a lot of items that summon helpers - this forum thread has a number of other suggestions.

Equipped a low level dagger with frost oil, got him down to 1 hp and watched as the frost damage did nothing to him even though it says "Hit for 1 Frost damage 39 overkill" or something...

So it appears Frost Oil doesn't do it. Tried for 15 minutes at 1 hp and hit at least 20-30 times with frost damage

Super simple as affliction warlock.
I used Supremacy and Voidlord. Just melee him with Elemental Force-enchanted weapon and save your mana.
When he freezes (not when he turns blue; wait for him to turn to an ice block):
- keep whacking him with your melee wep
- pop Abyssal
- Rain of Fire non-stop until dead. You may need to Life Tap.

Solo with 90 Monk, used dual wield 坚硬的钴质迅捷之刃 enchanted with 附魔武器 - 元素之力. He went down on the first freeze.
It is easy to make if you have a Blacksmith, it only requires 8x 钴锭 and has a speed of 1.70. This is the cheapest equip as far as mats I have found. Substitute a suitable dager for Rogues.

Buy 1 Drums of Rage.
Have Voidwalker out.
Auto attack with a melee weapon enchanted with Elemental Force (3 Mysterious Essences for mats).

Once he freezes, keep autoattacking and summon an infernal along with activating Drums of Rage.

Done.

Just a reminder, hunters are still currently capable of equipping melee weapons, so just enchant a couple of fast daggers with 附魔武器 - 元素之力, then pound his health down with ranged, switch to daggers, and your auto-attack plus your pet's will be more than enough to finish the job, especially if you use stampede and rapid fire.

Hunters can now solo this boss in Marksmen with no special tricks at all.

Using Chimarea shot for the frost damage, simply freeze him and swap to any melee weapon (I used a 2 handed staff), pop rapid fire and A Murder of Crows, and I did it just like that.

Just to confirm this fight is trivial for a Retribution Paladin as of 6.0 as you'd expect.
Beat it down to below 5% with a frost weapon such as the ones from storm peaks, then switch to a fast 1h weapon once it freezes, spamming any abilities that trigger extra melee strikes.

Previously I'd never been able to deal with the add phase, this time it was dead in 50 seconds.

You have to hit the boss 20 times with frost damage to freeze it solid.
Then you have to hit the boss with 30 attacks within 30 seconds to shatter it.
Good choices are Frost DKs with Army of the Dead and hunters specced into Exotic Munitions to use Frozen Ammo. Once the boss is frozen, use Stampede. Both classes can shatter the boss within seconds.

For those curious, yes, the new level 100 Hunter spell 寒冰弹 can be used to freeze 维希度斯 up in order to take him down without needing a 奇美拉 with 冰霜吐息 which requires Beastmastery due to it being an exotic pet!

I advise you just auto shot until he is completely frozen and then unload with a 弹幕射击 and everything else you got to hit him enough to shatter him. That should do the trick.

Was able to solo this on a frost mage (LVL 91) equipped with a 致命的细短剑, froze him using you're standard frost magey stuff, then when he was solid, i popped 冰冷血脉, 时间扭曲, 速度药水, and meleed away. dropped my melee swing speed to .82 or such, with a few multistrikes he died barely in time, would be nice to increase your haste additionally such as tangy yogurt or a flask, unfortunately i have none on my frost mage

Just killed this boss as an arcane mage. Level 96. All I did was equip my pvp dagger and the trinket Crate of Kidnapped Puppies, after which I burned him to 1 HP and started melee hitting him and in turn using cone of cold and frost nova. Once he froze, I hit time warp and the puppies trinket and he broke. No pet but now I know I don't have to switch specs to kill him!

Frost DK:

- Theres no time limit on frost, so just keep using Howling Blast and Frost Strike on him until he freezes.

-Summon Army of the Dead for an easy Shatter - a 2H DK can't do enough hits during that time (I got to 2/3 shatters)

I just had the worst time as a Retribution Paladin trying to figure out how to do this.
But here's how:
1. I bought a One-Handed Mace (沃舒古节杖) with Attack Speed 1.7.
2. I enchanted it with 附魔武器 - 元素之力.
3. I wailed the hell out of the boss until "Viscidus is frozen solid!"
4. As soon as I saw that, I used 狂怒战鼓.
5. I put my head between my legs, prayed to Jesus that I would kill it this time, and mashed my Crusader Strike, Final Verdict, Hammer of Wrath, Judgment, and Exorcism just to see if they would help.

And alas, the boss was finally dead after 5 attempts!
1. No freeze weapon
2. Freeze Enchant on a 2-h
3. Freeze Enchant on a 1-h
4. Freeze Enchant on a 1-h w/ Drums
5. (kill) Freeze Enchant on a 1-h w/ Drums, lucky multistrikes, and mashing skills.

To ANY retribution paladins looking to kill this boss to get the matching gloves for your Avenger's Battlegear sets, I wish you good luck. And may the odds be ever in your favor.

Shadow Priest. Got it down to 1, used an item level 571 dagger with Elemental Force. When it froze I popped Crate of Kidnapped Puppies and Barov Lumberjack Caller.

I don't know if they have changed things again, but he was insanely easy to kill today on my MM hunter. All I did was equip my 寒冰弹 and use 奇美拉射击 when it was available. Smacked him down to 1hp, and then just Auto attacked. After a little bit of time he froze solid, I hit and just sat there for a few. Between my regular raptor pet, and my auto attack, he shattered nice and easy. No pet this time, but at least I know I can take him easy next week. (Did get my Anubi this week tho!)

You can use mind spike to freeze him, the kicker is hitting him with enough physical DPS to kill him once he's frozen solid. Bought a green lvl 100 mace but it did not cut the cake. Will be coming back with a higher DPS mace.

This fight cannot be done with a ret paladin, even with elemental force on my weapon. I stood there beating on him with 0 health until he finally froze solid, which took a few minutes, then popped my drums to boost haste and still was unable to break him before he changed back. This sucks =/

Verified that Exotic Munitions - Frozen Ammo does inflict enough Frost Damage to kill. As of 6.0.3 at 656 ilvl it took about 15 seconds of shooting to freeze him then 30 to crack.

After reading the comments here, this is what I did as a level 100 Ret Pally(7.36% haste before buffs and 9.70% multistrike) with no summoning trinkets:

Haste food. I just used 霜冻炖菜.
狂怒战鼓 which can be bought on the AH.
废土节杖, bought from 全副武装的伦, right next to the Serpent's Spine flight master in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Enchant that with 附魔武器 - 元素之力.
Change the last tier talent to .

For the fight itself, dps Viscidus normally until he is down to 1hp. I didn't equip my enchanted weapon until this point but it takes a little bit to freeze him so you can equip it off the bat if you so choose. While fighting him, make sure to build up 5 holy power, but don't spend any as they are all needed for Seraphim. Once he is frozen, pop drums and Seraphim and spam Crusader Strike and Templar's Verdict until he is dead.

Hope this helps some other Ret Pallies out there!

A method I came with is to bring 巴罗夫管家铃 with you if you are a shadow priest, and any dagger that is fast enough, like under 1.9. Simply blast away with 心灵尖刺, then when it is frozen start stabbing him, call your servants and your shadowfiend or mindbender. Make sure you pop them all right when he becomes frozen, or you might make it and will have to wait until the cooldown is over. If you time it well, you should do 15 hits by yourself, while your minions do the rest.

Here's something i've noticed for hunters in 6.1

I've used Ice Trap waited for it to proc and lay the ice under him, then i moved him off of it, and back onto the ice, and it counted as multiple frost spells! With 3-4 traps doing these i froze him over without the need for any ice enchants or Brunhildar bow!

Then i proceeded to call stampede, barrage and whatever else i could throw at him.

But i bet Frozen Ammo from Exotic Munitions would work just as fine

This was a no-brainer as lvl 100 Ret Paladin. I equipped 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器 and 布伦希尔达巨斧 thinking this was going to be tough after reading comments. Took a few hits to get him frozen, then popped the trinket. He was down in seconds.

To outfit my level 100 fury warrior and level 100 combat rogue for this boss, I made 2 level 1 human rogues and mailed their starting offhanders (Worn Dirk) to my enchanter to receive the Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force upgrade. Then I bought the cheapest 1.60-speed daggers available on the AH for their main hands and put the same enchant on them.

The warrior's slower attack speed + misses means it can take a couple of cycles of freezing to kill the boss, but I've never had it take more than two. The rogue, with his speed buffs, seems to always down the boss with a ton of time left in the first freeze cycle.

Using the rogue starting offhander on a new toon saves some gold when setting this up.

After reading the comments here I used the following items on my 100 Ret Pally

沃舒古节杖 from the AH enchanted with 元素之力. Found one with haste on it. Feverflare
克苏恩的触须 trinket drop from C'Thon
速度药水 bought from the AH or made with Alchemy
Frosty Stew 100 haste food
狂怒战鼓

I was able to kill 维希度斯 on first attempt. When the boss froze, I used 速度药水, 克苏恩的触须, and 狂怒战鼓.

To kill Viscidus, you can't simply drain his health to zero. You have to freeze him by hitting him with ~25 frost attacks, then shatter him by hitting him with ~25 physical attacks, in addition to draining his health.

For those having trouble killing him, I made guides to kill him for all 11 classes. All of these guides are made for level 100 characters(Warlords of Draenor). If any of these become irrelevant in future expansions, I'll replace them. You can find them below:

As a rogue, i combined the advices from here when i read up during the fight in which i couldn't kill him.
Always went here with my DK, never paying attention to the game mechanics.

So, broke the combat by vanish when I read the stuff here. Took 2 daggers from my heirloom tab, ilvl463, put the elemental force on it. Love to be an enchanter and always having some old enchant mats with me.
And kicked off again. eventhough you use outranked weapons for yr lvl (assuming yr lvl 100 by now) the rest of yr gear will make up for it.
Come on people, we are talking about a lvl 60 raid boss from vanilla here.
Just keep hitting him and eventually you will freeze him and do enough dmg to take him down.
Too bad the companion didnt drop, so i have to come back next week. But will keep my heirlooms ready for him.

Balanced Druid -

First: Pick up the Crate of Kidnapped Puppies from Borginn Darkfist in Kun-Lai Summit in Panderia.

Second: Pick up a dagger or knife you can wield and apply Elemental Force to it.

Third: Go to Temple of Anh'Qiraj in southern Kalimdor and get to Viscidus. Wield melee weapon and hit him until he freezes. When he freezes, unleash the hounds!

Force of Nature will not work.

First we must buy the fastest weapon in game! 汽动力手杖 vendor 戈哈

Then just divide boss on zero, and stun with you ice abilities(stay in melee range). Use BL and boss will die.

"Why can't I get this boss down below 1 health?"

Even at level 100, you still need to follow a certain sequence of actions in order to kill him; killing him has to do with the number of hits, not just the actual amount of damage done.

After hitting him a certain number of times with frost damage (used to be 100, now greatly reduced though I don't know the exact number; might be 10), he goes into phase "Freeze 1/3." After hitting him more with frost damage (used to be 150 frost hits, maybe now it's 15 total), he goes into phase "Freeze 2/3." After 20 total frost hits (used to be 200), he goes into "Freeze 3/3." At this point, he will appear frozen within a block of ice, and you will have 30 seconds to hit him 30 times (this time, it doesn't need to be frost damage; it can be any melee hit).

Do not despair if your class cannot do frost damage, because there are ways around this.

The strategies given on this page are meant to help with two things:

1. Help classes that do not have frost spells be able to solo him despite that (such as with the elemental force enchant, which can only be applied to a weapon up to ilvl 600, or with frost oil, which can only be applied to a weapon up to ilvl 165).

I recommend getting a fast one-handed WoD green weapon under ilvl 600, such as Howling Mace (or, if your class can equip two one-handed weapons, then get two fast ones); and then enchant it with elemental force.

2. For the final phase of the fight ("Frozen 3/3"), to achieve 30 hits within 30 seconds (which is a bit challenging when you are soloing this boss). Suggestions to this end are intended to:

a. Help you hit faster, such as by using potion of speed and elixir of the rapids;

b. Help you have more things hitting the boss at the same time, such as by using trinkets that summon helpers, who can also hit the boss at the same time as you.

Some examples of trinkets/items to use (you probably don't need more than one or two of these at the same time; note that some of these are no longer obtainable, but you might have them sitting in storage from back when you could get them):

If your class has the ability to call on a pet or minion (ex., water elemental, shadowfiend, etc) that also helps.

The reason people want to kill him is because he has a chance of dropping a pet (Viscidus Globule); he is not required in order to get the achievement for completing the raid.

I just killed him now, it only took 10 seconds, I wore as much lower level gear with haste on them added a haste enchant to a 160 speed dagger, one of the boas you can find in Dread Wastes; I have a lumber yard so I used the Barov lumberjack caller( you get 5 lumberjacks that melee hit), I am a frost mage and I had my water pet out; it was the haste and the lumberjacks that did it for me; as I tried like 6 times yesterday to no avail, and today I changed a few things as mentioned above, and it was very fast :)

Killed him as a Balance Druid level 100.

Strategy:

Equip a Weapon with Elemental Force (元素之力) enchant. (Speed of the weapon doesn't matter I used 3.8 staff)
Just to be sure I changed my talents to Force of Nature and Heart of the Wild)
Activate Catform and start meleeing the boss, just melee attacks (white attacks).
As soon as the boss emotes: "Viscidus is frozen solid!" Click your force of nature three times and activate heart of the wild and spam shred and ferocious bite until the boss is dead.

Notes:

I'm not sure if the 2 talents help at all, I just tried to do everything I could to make it easier without respeccing away from balance.
I used my resto pvp gear with 21% haste.
I didn't use any potions/elixirs/other consumables.

Got my first slime on my first kill, cheers, gl hf :)

In patch 7.0 this boss was made very easy for shamans. All you need to do is switch to enhancement. Then take the talent 'Hailstorm' (lvl 60 talent), keep the buff up on yourself and just hit the boss with your abilities.

As of the 7.0.3 Pre-Patch, he was still easily solo-able by an Elemental Shaman. The strategy I used has changed slightly but is actually super simple:

Cast 冰霜震击 until he's frozen (seemed to be about 15 times)
Cast 嗜血 or 英勇 and melee with a fast 1h weapon (Mine was 1.6 and I didn't even have a second to spare before he unfroze)
Loot boss (or repeat if you messed up)

If you have anything else to increase your haste that will certainly make it less of a close-call than mine was. I, however, was lazy and this method made it so I hardly had to do anything but sit and wait while my shaman auto-attacked.

How to solo Viscidus as frost mage without anything special needed.

I once again forgot my 巴罗夫仆人铃 in my bank but I was too lazy to go and get it. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway and of course Viscidus got out of his frozen state before I was able to smash him to smithereens. Then I realized I have both 时间扭曲 and 冰冷血脉. I tried to go at it unarmed at first, but unfortunately that fell a little bit short. I used Invisibility to reset the fight and my cooldowns. Then I remembered we have heirlooms now. I picked the fastest weapon in my heirloom collection, which turned out to be 平衡的觅心者 and tried again
With an attack speed of 1.70, the 平衡的觅心者 in combination with 冰冷血脉 and 时间扭曲 was enough to shatter Viscidus.

tl;dr version:

Equip 平衡的觅心者
Get Viscidus' HP down and freeze him up.
Pop 时间扭曲 and 冰冷血脉 as soon as he's frozen and melee him down with your weapon.

As a frost DK I found myself with no shortage of frost damage. Getting to 30 hits in 30 seconds was an issue though because I had pretty slow weapons.

As Unholy, Chains of Ice counts for the frost damage you'll need. Minions and Army of the Dead will cover the 30 hits.

As a warrior. Specced to Fury. Equipped 2 2h brunnhildar axes, bought 2 cheap daggers off AH (they don't need to be frost enchanted). autoattacked. When he froze, switched to daggers, used whirlwind and bladestorm. he went down very quickly. I'm not sure if trinkets were necessary, but I had rhea's egg and ghost dragonling trinket.

Soloable as a BM hunter by use of Chimaera Shot, as it has a chance to use either nature or frost damage against him.
It does however, take a VERY long time to do this using Chimaera Shot because of the random chance, and the cooldown on the ability itself.

I was finally able to do this as a Frost DK since the 7.0 changes with the following setup:

2 fast 1h weapons (2.00 or less) both runeforged with Razorice
Taking the Frozen Pulse talent

Use Howling Blast on CD to keep your runes empty to proc the Frozen Pulse effect
Basically just strictly use Howling Blast and then Frost Strike while your runes are empty.
As soon as he freezes, use Remorseless Winter. Use it again before the freeze timer is up.

I don't know that this works 100%, I had to fine-tune it a bit before I finally got him down.

For my unofficial guide for killing Viscidus, there are two rules to remember:

1. Any frost type spell will do, it doesn't have to be damage-based
2. It doesn't matter how hard you hit him, but how fast you do

Rule 2 makes sense when you consider this boss was tailor-made for a 40-man raid, and when you've got 40-some people pounding him at once, he'll obviously be instantly killed.

With this in mind, I soloed Viscidus on my Death Knight, with the newly designed unholy spec, which doesn't allow you to do any damage-based frost spells. Thank you, Blizzard.

So, I got my ghoul out, and after I easily got him to 1 health point, I started spamming Chains of Ice on him until he froze; as he was frozen I popped the unholy-exclusives Army of the Dead and Gargoyle on him, and he was dead in seconds.

I'm unaware of how many hits Viscidus has to actually take to shatter, but combining Army of the Dead and Gargoyle with my guardian ghoul he took like a baker's dozen of hits at once. My guess is that it's not a set amount of hits, it's a set amount of damage per second.

Killed today with a pair of 草薙 enchanted with 元素之力. No strategy necessary-- I intentionally just autoattacked him to death with at least a couple of seconds left on the "shatter" timer; using any abilities whatsoever just speeds up the process.

Should be extraordinarily trivial if you can dual-wield any ~1.6-1.7 speed weapon.

Lvl 100 Warlock - iLvl 702 w/ Succubus

1. Crafted Lesser Magic Wand & enchanted it with Elemental Force from inside the instance (In fact, while fighting Viscidus)
2. Beat the crap out of him with my usual rotation until he froze
3. Equipped Kris of Unspoken Names (re-acquired from an NPC outside the 10M Ahn'Qiraj instance)
4. Stabbed him until he shattered

As a DH you only need to use the Havoc Spec to kill him because of the Chaos dmg. Just do your normal rotation and it will work.

As of Legion, Shaman's will want to switch to Enhance and just go all out with your Doomhammer buffed with frostbrand. Bloodlust couldn't hurt, but I didn't need it. Elemental simply can't smack it fast enough, even with your Earth Elemental helping.

They really need to remove this dumb gimmick. I understand its purpose and it made perfect sense when you had 40 people running it, but now this raid is only done solo and you've put a pet as a drop on this boss. It's dumb that certain classes cannot kill this boss without planning ahead, while others can faceroll right through it no problem.

Update for mages trying to kill this mob. With the new heirloom gear and the addition of new spells he is possible to solo at L80 without much trouble. Use the heirloom dagger with haste, the heirloom book, and 2 of the heirloom haste trinkets. As soon as he starts to freeze cast your Time Warp, you have 40 seconds so it will last through the exchange. When he freezes use Icy Veins, it only lasts 20 seconds but the two appear to stack for a total of +60% haste during that time.

You'll need a weapon/attack that does frost damage to beat this boss down to drop the pet... natural frost works (Frost Mage, Frost DK, etc), but for weapons, you want it enchanted somehow to do frost damage... 冰锋符文 for DKs, 元素之力 for everyone else (also of note the Brunhilder weapons sold by 锻造师齐格菲娜 also work without any enchants).

Finally, and most importantly, you want FAST weapons... the quicker the speed the better, auto-attacks will work if you have a fast enough weapon.

The fastest 2H weapons (staff/polearm) in the game include:
汽动力手杖
复仇军的相位长矛

Some fast 1H weapons (swords) include:
玛尔多的剑杖
坚硬的钴质迅捷之刃
秘银细剑

Daggers for those that can use them, are of course a "duh"... shouldn't be hard to find fast daggers.

Remember folks, just because you can't equip a dagger doesn't mean you can't equip a 剥皮小刀.

Just had to use 2 of them on my 105 Frost DK because her haste wasn't high enough I guess.

EDIT: wewps didnt realize you had to be level 1 skinner for this to work.

I ended up getting 草薙 on my DK that didn't have skinning. You get this from a vendor in Dalaran. She魔导师拉姆布莉丝 is in the building right under "Windrunner's Sanctuary" on the map in OLD Dalaran.

Make sure you change the sort drop down box at the top right to "all" so you ensure it shows up. As a death knight it being agility it didn't show up at first.

For those that forgot our freezing spell/enchant BUT remembered to get our xmas gifts from in game, the Endothermic Blaster toy works great!

Activate the toy, use repeatedly on boss until he freezes solid. Then deactivate buff (right click on it) and pummel as usual.

Thank goodness for this, didn't really want to run out of instance just to go find something to use.

Just attempted to use the new toy we got from Winter's Veil since others posted that it worked. However, on my paladin, I clicked on the toy... pointed at the big blob, and repeatedly used my extra action button to shoot snow all over him to no avail... can we just say durn it :(

The Endothermic Blaster did work for me, but some part of my UI was interfering, so I couldn't cancel the toy buff. Instead, and this is a general tip for hunters, use Chimera Shot! It takes a while, but it IS possible. I had my pets attacking him as well so I could stay out of the slowing debuff range, and I'd guess it took about two minutes for the Chimera Shot frost part to build up enough to freeze him. No battle pet drop, though.

here's one method that worked to kill Viscidus for my main Priest without the enchant or trinket
requirements:
•25% or higher haste rating
•azshari salad before engaging
•the "kris" dagger (sold by vendors in major cities)
•drums of the mountain
•the talents Reaper of Souls, Mind Spike, and Power Infusion (Dominant Mind would also be a cool idea, bring some trash into the boss room and use them for some extra physical damage in phase three, didn't try it)
instructions:
1. use mind spike twelve times or until you see the "viscidus is freezing up!" message in chat
2. cast SW:D and Mind Blast to get to 100 insanity, enter voidform, then mind spike to push him into phase three (this will leave you with a few seconds of voidform and then lingering insanity for the added haste, which helps a lot)
3. immediately cast Drums of the Mountain, PI, then Shadowfriend
this should give you and your squid enough time to get those 30 physical attacks in before the timer runs out. enjoy your loot!

I pulled this old coot on my DH just for fun w/o checking anything ahead of time, and figured I was out of gas when he didn't immediately explode, but, like an unfortunately buried post suggests, chaos damage counts as frost. One Eye Beam and he was frozen, and then I just wailed on him and he shattered. Go crazy, demon hunters.

I killed him as a DK by switching to Unholy Spec. Spammed Mind Freeze and Chains of Ice. As soon as he froze up I summoned my Army of the Dead.

As long as you have the tiniest bit of haste, the 汽动力手杖 in conjunction with the 附魔武器 - 元素之力 enchant is able to solo Viscidus with ease.

The boss needs to be melee hit 30 times during his 30-second long stun to die, which is triggered by dealing frost damage to him 200 times, which the enchant will do for you fairly quickly, due to the fast attack speed of the staff.

No drums or companion/guardian summoning trinkets or spells required.

If there's any confusion as to how to use the Endothermic Blaster to kill this boss, you simply need to DPS him down to zero health, activate the toy from your toybox, use the action icon up close to the boss until he reaches 3/3 frozen status (you'll see the prompts in text, phase 3 freezes the boss solid), deactivate the toy by right clicking the buff to cancel, then DPS him as using as many hits as you can until it's dead. I did this on my Monk and it took no time at all.

Can be Solo on a Havoc DH.

Chaos strike does chaos damage which can freeze him.

once he frozen/near trigger your meta form for the increased haste now just auto attack/use artifact ability, Blade dance and of course Demonbite if you are not talented into demon blades and you killed him. Would advise demon blades and Fel rush, just for the fury generation so you can blade dance.

Legion DK solo method.

The only DK spec able to solo now would be Unholy, Just use Rune of Razorice on your Artifact or any 2 hand sword, atuo attack at some point he will freeze when he does army of undead, that plus your ghoul will be enough to shatter loot win done.

Frost DK got changed in such a way as of Legion that Frost strike no longer does physical damage so it counts just as spell damage which prevents it form shattering, so you only got 1 2 rune cost ability and atuo attacks you will not meet the needed result without a drums, just best to unholy it due to the ghoul/army factor.

(I will be updating this as I do some more testing with other classes of ease.)

I want to add if you're a melee without access to frost spells Faulty Countermeasure from Vault of the Wardens does work. I had to use it twice with Crusade on my Paladin to freeze him, but the second use froze him right away and the haste from Crusade let me crack him.

I haven't seen this mentioned on this thread but the toy 冰霜冲击枪 works just fine to freeze him.

Edit: Just remember to click off the buff once he's frozen. It took me roughly two minutes of the five that the toy is active to freeze him.

Endothermic Blaster still works wonders when freezing him. Just make sure you're standing close enough for it to affect him :P

Just soloed on BM Hunter 110. Didn't have a frost pet (just my wolf); froze him with 冰霜冲击枪 (stand inside him as others have mentioned and just spam it). Only difference is when I froze him, I couldn't turn the Blaster off. Clicking, right clicking, standing on my head and doing the hula ... nothing worked to remove it. So I just set my pet to attack him. Might not be "conventional", but it worked.

With the stealthy change to weapon speeds introduced in 7.3, it's now a bit more tricky to get the required number of hits in to shatter Viscidus if you're playing a slow hitting melee class or a caster class.

Fortunately there are two trinkets available, either of which will do the job for you by spawning NPC's that does melee damage:

Havoc 恶魔猎手 can freeze Viscidus with 混乱新星 or 眼棱 for example.

This is either a bug or a feature to make soloing the boss possible. However, it worked for me several times.

Also, I unequipped ALL items from my character and equipped 2 x 剥皮小刀 to make sure that none of my items was causing a frost damage proc. (0 talent points spent)

The Mechanical Yeti and the Terracotta Warrior are both useful to help break the frozen boss into shards, killing him. The Spectral Brewmaster and Spectral Windwalker cannot, however, since they can't be used in the raid.

They broke this boss again. With patch 7.3 all weapons, including old ones, have been standardized so that all one-handers are 1.6 speed and two-handers are 2.6 speed. As a ret pali, I had to bring speed elixirs and drums, just to get my axe to hit enough times. They should remove this BS mechanic already since all other bosses are 1-shots anyway.

As Retribution 圣骑士 there is quite easy way.

Make sure you have 冰霜冲击枪 or any other item which is capable of freezing him up, like eg. 北风 with 附魔武器 - 元素之力.

If you use 冰霜冲击枪

Keep your Holy power on 5 points
When you freeze him cancel your toy
Pop your 复仇之怒 or 征伐
Start spending HP
Use and spend HP again
Keep spamming all your offensive spells like crazy
Pray to RNG Gods for procs on your 公正之剑
...
Profit

If you use weapon then just switch back to 灰烬使者 and do the same things described above.

Also 艾萨莉色拉 will only help so take that chip and eat it :D

As a frost mage, I was able to solo this by unequipping my weapon then activating Icy Veins and Time Warp as soon as he freezes up.
The unarmed melee attacks from my character was way faster than her melee attacks with her weapon equipped, which made it possible for me to shatter and kill it in time.
Just make sure you activate Icy Veins and Time Warp when it is close to freezing up, to not waste anytime.

8.0 UPDATE Just went on my mage and struggled with getting my attack speed up (since they have normalized weapon speed), so I had to try a few times.

Frost spec: talented 镜像 though I'm not sure if their attacks helped, but did 冰枪术 until he turned medium blue, popped 镜像 & 时间扭曲, spammed 冰枪术 until frozen, then hit 冰冷血脉 since it only has a 30 sec effect and I didn't want to waste it. Wailed away at him with my 军用小刀 and BOOM he was down. Thank goodness this still works.

As a frost mage I thought this would be a cakewalk, but I couldn't get my unarmed melee attacks to finish in time to break him, even with carefully timing 时间扭曲 and 冰冷血脉.

So, what's a mage to do?

WELL I'm betting most of you have 旅行者的苔原猛犸象 and after exiting Viscidus' cave and mounting up, lo and behold, what does it sell? A 军用小刀!

After equipping it, I was able to get enough speed with about 3-4 seconds to spare.

Didn't see a lot of advice for mages on here that was relevant to the newest content in game. Most paths involved using trinkets for added melee hits that you just cannot get anymore, or take a ton of time. I preferred the AH approach...

Spec: Frost
Main Hand: Any sword with 1.8
Extra Stuff: 机械格林奇 and 上古战神药水 (Potion of the Old War)

Rolled in, murdered with 冰风暴, which killed and froze him. Dropped 机械格林奇 and 上古战神药水 and then melee until dead.

Repeat as needed. First kill dropped 维希度斯小水滴 for me which was nice to see. Now i just need to complete my old gear set and I will be pleased.

With the changes to weapon speed, you may have some difficulties in shattering the boss (phase two, after successfully freezing the boss). If you are looking for a faster weapon:
The Frying Pan from The Tillers may be an option (only cooking level 1 required).

Of course you can also equip a simple dagger if your class allows, or use your skinning, blacksmithing or mining skills with Skinning Knife or Blacksmith Hammer or Mining Pick ,

You would think they would have changed this by now. We're in Legion. They made every other raid from previous expansion soloable for all classes. I am after some of the cloth gear but can't kill him with my lock, mage, or priest. I don't think they will change it though, since the raid came out about 13 or 14 years ago.

He is soloable in 7.3.5 did today Jan 20th. Used my shaman, and repeatedly used frostbrand until he froze, then did normal damage until he cracked and broke. It did take ~2 min at 110, which is far longer than any other boss.

Well I used the Endothermic Blaster like everyone suggested - he turned to ice and I hit him - for about 10 minutes - nothing - the guys health got to 3275 and never dropped a digit lower...very frustrating

Want to waste your time? Then go to this raid without reading up on it before going there. You'll waste a good hour running around to the bosses and another hour or 2 trying to figure out how to kill some of them like this one. Then you'll find yourself here finding out that you can't kill this boss with your character and must bring other items to solo a boss that has been in the game for over a decade. So then you get frustrated and have to hearth out, get the right items, come back here and read about how to properly do the boss, then go all the way back to this raid which is in the middle of nowhere land and run all the way back in to the boss that you were unprepared to deal with at the start. But hopefully people will read this first before even going there so they will know they can't just solo it as their character is for most classes I think.

If you happened to not be around during winter to get the winter toy that can freeze Viscidus, you can get the 影踪喷枪 anytime of the year so you can solo this boss, it works exactly the same. Happy hunting my friends~

OK, this is bugged to hell. Way over levelled Frost DK, hit him froze him, threw the kitchen sink at him & hit & froze him some more; result...the b'tard wouldn't drop below 1% HP. Gave it up as a bad job, probably doesn't drop anything decent anyway. Total waste of time.

did this tonight as a frost DK. it's not bugged, but you have to hit it often enough. i wasn't able to hit it frequently enough solo, so i dug out a Captain's Badge (summon a netherwing ally) and a Mechanical Yeti that i had in my bank to hit the thing along with me. worked like a champ

Just tried this on a 969 Ret Paladin and couldn't do it. I can't get enough attacks in after he's frozen. I did it twice, used full Crusade/raid CD's the second time and didn't make it. I read that people used to use a fast one hander, but since they normalized weapon speeds, this may not be possible. I tried equipping a one hander but there are even less attacks, if that's possible. Does anyone know of any tips for this?

Can no longer be frozen with the toys as of 8.0 pre-patch.. Spammed both 影踪喷枪 and 冰霜冲击枪 for full duration of 5 minutes, hitting every shot with the chilly debuff and it wouldn't even slow down at all, nothing happened. Sad game

As a 110 Ret pally (8.0) I managed to kill him by using the talents:

I had Volcanospike (random low 1h sword) with 附魔武器 - 元素之力 enchanted.

Build up holy power, as soon as he freezes use Inquisition, Drums and hit him with Judgement. Continue to use Crusader Strike and Judgement off cooldown, maintaining your Inquisition for the haste buff.

I have 41% haste unbuffed with a speed set I use, focusing mainly on haste for Aggramar's Stride, otherwise I wouldn't have so much haste.

I tested and messed around trying to nail down a strat for this as toys are no longer an option and with this setup, I did it the first time. ~~Not sure if it was lucky procs, the smashing of my keyboard or just that the strat is solid~~ Seems it's based on the fact I have a tonne of Haste, plus lucky procs. - But I hope it gives you Paladins out there hope!

Shivwrens comment below should also help you produce a strat that'll work for you and your current gear.

Just tried to fight Viscidus and the Endothermic Blaster wasn't working. I was close enough, and was hitting it- the debuff was showing. But wasn't doing anything anymore. Tried for 4 minutes of blasting, nothing.

So to reiterate and consolidate some of the previous comments- Yes, as of 8.0 the toys will not work on this fight, BUT you can STILL use Frost Oil on a melee weapon (if you have the required rep with Sons of Hodir grab a melee brunnhildar weapon from 锻造师齐格菲娜 for the extra frost kick). Just apply 冰霜之油 to melee weapon, watch for the 3/3 on frozen in your chat box, then go ham on Viscidus. Even as a hunter, you can drag your bow/gun to your action bar, then equip for example 布伦希尔达鱼叉 (no need to spec into Survival) apply oil, auto-attack with harpoon and once Viscidus is 3/3 frozen press action bar button to instantly equip your real weapon (bow or gun), then again go ham. Did it this way with my hunter today, used Drums and Prolonged Power pot just for good measure along with ferocity pet attacking while blowing cds, easy peasy. Good luck folks.

Wanting to defeat Viscidus, but you don't have the questline to get one of the weapons from the Valarjar?

Purchase a non-binding dagger or knife (or, if the one you want to give it to is a paladin or monk, non-binding one-handed sword). Enchant it with 冰霜之油, 附魔武器 - 冰寒, 附魔武器 - 元素之力, or 附魔武器 - 死亡霜冻. Then you can mail it around to any alts who need to kill the beast but don't have their own way to use frost.

Since you can change weapons in mid-battle, you can start the fight using your frosty dagger/sword, then change to your other weapon(s) as needed (although if you use the oil on a fast weapon and you're high level, changing weapons may not be to your advantage since it's the *number* of hits and not the *damage* of the hits that you need, post-freezing).

Many cities sell a variety of white, non-binding weapons that work fine for this. I used a Dalaran Dagger, because I happened to be in Dalaran when I decided to test it out, but I'm sure almost any weapon that's below ilevel 136 would work.

Note that this doesn't make it fast, in either case; all the enchantments rely on a small % chance, but they do eventually work!

Easy go as a Enhancement Shaman. Spamm Frostbrand until he freezes, pop your Feral Spirits and he will crack in 5-6 seconds.

New as of the launch of BFA, the Azerite Trait Tidal Surge (海潮涌动) can eventually freeze him solid, took me about 4 minutes for the RNG to hit enough procs of this to do the trick, but then it gave me plenty of time to shatter him afterwards, and this trait seems to be available to all specs as a neutral trait on all armor types.

Now after BfA has launched, classed who didn't have frost damage now can kill this.

A few of the abilities you can unlock on your equipment has a chance to deal frost damage. This made it easy for my warlock to kill Viscidus. I just attacked till that happened and Viscidus turned to ice, then continued to hack away on him while he was frozen. Was quite slow, but worked well.

Didn't get the pet, but now I can easily farm for it weekly.

8.0 MAGE UPDATE

Just went and struggled with getting my attack speed up (since they have normalized weapon speed), so I had to try a few times. Luckily running out to reset also resets Timewarp CD debuffs.

Frost spec: talented 镜像 (though I'm not sure if their attacks helped) and did 冰枪术 until he turned medium blue, popped 镜像 & 时间扭曲, spammed 冰枪术 until frozen, then hit 冰冷血脉 since it only has a 30 sec effect and I didn't want to waste it. Wailed away at him with my 军用小刀 from the Traveler's Tundra mount vendor and BOOM he was down.

Thank goodness this still works.

As a frost mage, I was having a difficult time with Viscidus. Obviously the freezing part is a piece of cake, but even with a fast dagger, timewarp, and icy veins, I wasn't getting enough hits in to shatter him. Someone mentioned on the item page for 巴罗夫管家铃 that it was a possible solution. I can happily report that this item makes the fight a breeze. If you hold onto your special items like I do and have one of these stored away in your bank, dust it off and get that loot!

as a Destro warlock, freezing things does not come naturally, but with 海潮涌动 you can freeze him fairly quickly. Once hes frozen drop your Infernal, him and your void walker and you can melee him until he shatters.

Can confirm that hunter pets with frost breath can still work as well. Mine is 拉扎尔 from Feralas, but there is a matching one in Winterspring, 罗纳克. Both have frost breath. I believe there are a small handful of other pets that may have frost breath, but these are the ones I know off the top of my head.

Also to note, it took a good long while for Vicidus to finally freeze, I personally don't remember it taking so long, but it might just be because it's been a while since I've done this. Don't despair, just put frost breath on "auto" and let your pet do all the work until he freezes, then pop all your CDs and waste the ooze.

Okay, this is old news, but still works as of 8.1:

If you do not already have a method of killing the guy save yourself some time and energy by paying 锻造师齐格菲娜 a visit.

She's your new best friend, as she sells the following:

布伦希尔达弯弓
布伦希尔达利斧
布伦希尔达鱼叉
布伦希尔达巨斧

You will have to do a questline in order to gain access to her, quest starts with 她们把男人都抓走了！.

Once you're done, just buy one of the items above, give Viscidus a kick, swap weapons, keep punching him until he crumbles and voilà.

If you're having a hard time killing this boss as a Frost DK, switch to Unholy and spam Chains of Ice until "Viscidus is freezing up!" and then use Army of the Dead + Apocalypse and spam Chains of Ice until Viscidus is frozen solid. The melee damage from your minions will be more than enough to kill the boss.

Update: still working on 8.1.5
I just managed to get him down as prot pally, using the 布伦希尔达鱼叉 for the frost dmg (this brought him to frozen in under 2 minutes, I had tried 附魔武器 - 冰寒 on a green 1h before but the procs were too far apart - it took over 30 minutes to reach frozen). Once frozen I popped 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器 to provide enough hits within the time limit. Worked beautifully.

For a hunter, I recommend simply getting 2 daggers enchanted with Elemental Force. As BM with access to bloodlust, the fight only takes one minute, and even without bloodlust I'm pretty sure you can easily hit fast enough to kill the boss.

I did it using my warrior on FURY stance...
Equiped 2x 布伦希尔达利斧 and fighting NUDE (with no one equipment)... lol...
Start fight and not used any cast... when boss frost... used all casts and boss died.
Yes... boss was always with 1 of life... will try using my gear and update here on next week.

Not sure if some change was made, but was able to do it in my DH . . . without any enchants, just using the old Legion Artifacts (with no traits anymore).

I first tried it with on that toon last week both Elemental Force enchants and Frost oil applied to two 136 ilevel axes (crafted WoD item), along with various haste items (Wrath haste potion, some sort of haste elixir I had on a bank toon, BfA haste food - the lesser one, plus Drums from Legion). It was very easy.

I wanted to test out for a guild member who really wanted to get the Raiding with Leashes done. I told her a DH could do it and I'd be able to provide enchants, potions, etc. Well, she did it, but without any enchants.

I became curious and once the raid reset, I gave it a try WITHOUT any enchants or any other consumable buffs, and was able to down this boss. Seems like the melee hits were enough to apply frost effects.

If anyone can confirm the changes (something Blizzard said, etc.,) would appreciate it. In the meantime, maybe try it on a melee toon that can hit pretty fast and see if it works.

First time poster long time lurker here so be gentle ;)

Just killed Viscidus using a 120 FURY WARRIOR, was looking for the pet drop which I was lucky enough to get on my first attempt. Here's what I did:
1. Bought 2 crappy daggers off the AH, along with 2 elemental force enchantments for the random frost damage which is essential for killing him.
2. Equip both daggers and use the auto attack until he freezes over (25 hits with a frost damage weapon)
3. When he's frozen solid equip a two-handed weapon in your main hand
4. Use bladestorm and follow up with whirlwind.
5. Keep using whirlwind, your fury bar should be full from using the auto attack, until he's dead.

All in all this took less than 60 seconds. Probably not the easiest, fastest, cheapest or simplest way of doing it, but it worked for me and hopefully for any other Warriors who were looking for this info. And in the end, isn't helping each other what we're here for :)

I tried this on my mage today with the 陶制碎片 and it did not work. Possibly due to me standing in the 剧毒 which seems to stack as well. My terracotta warrior was able to get him to the point where he was ready to shatter yet, he broke free again. I will try again to not stay in the 剧毒 and pop 时间扭曲.

*** Mage update: I popped Time Warp and stayed out of Toxin and popped my Terracotta Warrior and it still didn't work even with me doing melee. What did work was while I still had my Terracotta Warrior out I popped 冰冷血脉 to give me that extra melee haste which got him to finally shatter :D. Hope that helps. **

As patch 8.1.5 I have soloed this boss with my druid. To do this, equip ilvl lower than 135 enchanted with Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force. Change your spec to feral. Auto attack by filling combo points until boss freezes. Then apply your dots and energy generating skills.

Finally I managed to kill this slime as Paladin.
-First of all, the icy part is easy, just equip a weapon with 附魔武器 - 元素之力
-The problem for a Paladin is the 30 physical hit in 30sec, but I managed to solve this problem quite easily. My holy gear has around 26% haste right now, i went retri for the fight because you have the combo 十字军打击+公正之剑, both physical.
-The important talents are 狂热+正义之火+异端裁决 or 征伐 (both work).
-Use 漩涡战鼓 as soon as the boss get frozen.
-Consume your Holy Power only if you are using some specific azerite traits like 无情审讯
-Get the loot.

For melee classes that can use daggers or 1 handed swords in BFA that don't do frost damage and who don't have an 永冻之锚 to help there is an option I used to get the pet, although if you don't have alts you'll need help. For this to work you will need at least one lower lvl alt on the same or linked realm that can use swords (mine was lvl 20 so I assume can be lower), and have the heirloom 磨旧的痛击之刃. I did this on my ret pally after a bit of toon dancing to set up. If you've got some azurite gear with the trait 海潮涌动 then you can bypass the enchant bit below, although you will still need many melee hits to shatter him so the trinkets & 磨旧的痛击之刃 will still help if you're not a rogue with dual fast daggers.

First off if you have an enchanter you'll need to make either 附魔武器 - 元素之力 or 附魔武器 - 死亡霜冻, or ask a friend/guild member to make for you (being old chants they're not often on the AH, at least on my server). Because of their restriction on ilvl you'll need to mail them to your lower lvl alt to do use the enchant. Get that alt to make 磨旧的痛击之刃 and enchant it, then mail it to the toon doing the run. Jump over to the toon doing the run, get any trinkets you have that provide npc's to assist in battle and equip them. Personally I used 巴罗夫管家铃 & 陶制碎片 but there are many others you can get - for example the new version of 巴罗夫管家铃 is 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器. Be aware that 虚空之触 does not work in raids unfortunately and there may be others, so check here in Wowhead to make sure your trinket works in raids. If you do not have any such trinkets and don't want to get them, then you could try the run with the best haste potion you can get your hands on, although not sure if that would be enough on it's own. I found with my trinkets mentioned I didn't need any extra haste at all, the fight was over pretty quick once he froze.

Once you start the fight you can pop 陶制碎片 since he sticks around for ten minutes. Don't use the 巴罗夫管家铃 or similar until he freezes and you need to shatter him. If you have no luck with the pet dropping then you can mail the enchanted blade to another alt to give it a crack. Hope this helps and good luck with the pet drop.

This is how I was able to solo him as a Level 100 Frost Mage.

First increase your Haste as much as possible. At the time I solo'd him my haste was at 11.67%
Next take the level 100 talent 热能真空
Equip a fast one-hand weapon. I used军用小刀
Next I attacked Viscidus by just casting 寒冰箭
I watched my chat to see when he was about to freeze. As soon as I saw the second message of he is about to freeze, cast 寒冰箭 one more time, then cast 时间扭曲. Cast 寒冰箭 one more time to make him freeze. As soon as he freezes, cast 冰冷血脉. After that just right click as quickly as possible to begin melee attacks with your dagger. The haste increase from both 时间扭曲, plus 冰冷血脉 will give you at least 30 seconds of fast melee attacks due to 热能真空 increasing the 冰冷血脉 duration by 10 seconds. It was just enough to cause him to shatter and die.

NOTE: Make sure you drop his health below 20% before you attempt to shatter him. If you don't instead of dying, he'll split into many small blobs that will reform if they come together. I couldn't kill them all before that happened. You may need to make him freeze, then just unfreeze a couple of times before he's below 20% health.

Well dang, I'm slow! I have tried so many times through the years with my main discipline priest. Just figured she was too slow. Tried several trinkets, a dagger with elemental force, and the mind fiend/bender of course. Never could kill the viscidus.
Today I finally read, PAGES of comments back, Iamsyntact's post. He finally said the RIGHT word: "get those 30 PHYSICAL attacks in". Wait. Physical?
So... I got out the old stealthblade dagger. It's old enough to put elemental force enchant on. And it's fast, speed 1.80.
Go hit Viscidus however you want until he freezes SOLID (in ice spikes).
THEN pop your Mindbender and your trinket with helpers, I used the Barov Servant Caller.
And then just stand inside him and STAB him. Don't waste time casting, just stab.
I know, that's so unnatural for us priests, but it worked first try...
Is this what the kids would call a "face-palm" moment?

For Pallies trying to finish their T2.5 set:

I used a weapon with Elemental Force on it for frost damage (which worked fine) -- then I tried to stack haste to reach 30 physical hits in 30 seconds:

My haste was up to 48% by the end, using:
- 2x Accord of Haste ring enchants (+60 Haste each)
- the Crusade talent (+3% haste for 30 seconds)
- the Baked Port Tato food buff (+93 Haste for 1h)
- Drums of the Maelstrom (+25% haste for 40 seconds)
- Shockbiter's Fang trinket (+471 Haste for 30s)
- Potion of Speed (+200 haste for 15 seconds)

I still came up about a second or two short, although I think I could have pulled it off with a little practice.

Thanks to other posts here, I dug out a Crate of Kidnapped Puppies trinket I didn't realize I had, and that trivialized the fight, as Viscidus dropped in about 15 seconds (about half the time needed). That or the Barov Lumberjack Caller are probably two of the best options for pallies farming this blobby boss.

In all the years of playing I've never cleared The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. Never had a real need to as I was pretty much focused on my REAL fun, Mining! I mined for years, maxed out leveling on Mining Experience Points. Mining all the time, everywhere. Until finally, one day, I decided to work on Blacksmithing. Found out a LOT of Plans were tied up in Reputation Grinding. Soon I found myself going days and days and days grinding Reputation with various factions, until I found myself in Silithus, trying to reach Exalted with the Cenarion Circle.

While waiting for the Ruins to reset, I decided to wander into the Temple area. I found out I could get 2 different Reputation Gains there, the Cenarion Circle and Brood of Nozdormu. So I figured, why not give it a shot.

Being 30 levels higher than needed for this area, it went pretty well until I found this green giant ooze off in a corner by himself. Went with the standard beatdown **Warrior thrashing... and noticed a short while later the Ooze was at 1 HP... and not dying. Ran away and watched it reset back to full health.

Ok. Something not right here. Off to Wowhead. Read through several pages of information, got a good idea on how to finish him off, and noted several comments about an Endothermic Blaster, and how Blizzard took the Nerfbat to a really effective way to down this mob, making it useless. However, someone else said it worked fine.... I decided to test it, as I had no other way of freezing Viscidus and was in the instance anyway. Found out it WORKS. The Toy Freezeray DOES work, it just takes some time, lots of close-up application, and the ability to absorb some damage while waiting for him to change colors and get cold. I just kept hosing him with it.. Finally Froze him solid but fumbled the weapon switch and didn't hit him enough times fast enough to down him. And it's a 20 minute recharge Timer on the Blaster. Off to town to buy a cheap dagger and find a Mage...

Edit: Bought 2 cheap daggers, found a Mage who enchanted both with Icy Chill, bought 2 bottles of Frost Oil and applied them, went back to the Temple, switched to Fury Spec, and attacked Viscidus while dual-wielding the daggers. Transmogrified him into an icy lump then busted him inta a zillion pieces.

Edit #2: I re-checked this page before going back into the Temple with a Warlock and found that Vomitersoul had added a note just for Warlocks! I found a Mage with (Elemental Force) enchant, had him whammy a Dagger for me, went after Viscidus with it, and in 1/10 of the time of using (Icy Chill), froze him in a block! (Elemental Force) works MUCH better than (Icy Chill). With my Voidwalker and Infernal, the beat-down took less than a minute.

As Destruction Warlock (and most likely any other warlock spec) this is super easy.

1. Equip any dagger with 1,6 sec attack speed or less if you can find. (I used the "Glacial Blade" from Alterac Valley)
2. Enchant it with "Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force". Create this if you are an enchanter or buy it from the auction house.
3. Summon your voidwalker and let it attack the boss.
4. Start melee-attacking the boss. It might take 30-40 sec or more to freeze him.
5. As soon as the message "Viscidus is frozen solid" appears, summon your infernal and get back to melee attacking the slime.

You, your voidwalker and your infernal should now be attacking the boss with melee attacks and deal out almost 3 melee attacks per second. The boss is dead in around 15 seconds after freezing.

Do NOT cast any spells on the boss after it freezes. ONLY melee attacks count.

As of today (9.0.1) the Endothermic Blaster is working.
Proof:
(Freeze: 3/3)
(Shatter: 3/3)
Completed on a Sin rogue. Make sure you're standing like directly on top of him and that the debuff is appearing and being refreshed.
Also many addons don't allow you to right click off buffs, so you may need to type this quick command in. It's not the greatest but you can't actually attack or use abilities with your blaster buff on /cancelaura Endothermic Blaster

~~Will test in 8.3 (which is in a few days) if this method works again.~~

The key to the fight that many may not be aware of is doing frost damage for his first 3 freeze tiers, then physical damage for his 3 shatter tiers.

No frost spell? Well most of us don't have one and actually want a shot at the toy. It's 8.3 and so I thought about the toys in my bag. Good thinking.

Use the toy "Endothermic Blaster" and keep shooting boss up close. Will eventually freeze him and then can be killed.

I wanted to kill this blob for the pet he drops 维希度斯小水滴. Failed a bunch of times on my priest, also failed on frost mage even with time warp/icy veins/dagger attack. Was able to do it as assassination rogue - I bought two ilvl 115 green daggers off the AH for cheap; applied an 元素之力 enchant to each dagger; started with regular attacks, just kept auto attacking until he eventually froze up; once he froze, I cast Vendetta, popped a Battle Potion of Agility, used Drums of Fury and activated my trinket Kezan Stamped Bijou which has an on-use haste buff. That was probably overkill but I was tired of not beating this super low level boss. This mechanic should be patched out by now.

I am trying to kill it as a frost DK. I freeze it with Howling Blast. Once frozen, I unleash obliterate, frostsythe, frost and death strike on it and he never breaks. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

I couldn't beat him with my 110 Elemental Shaman solo; even though I could freeze him, I couldn't get enough hits in to shatter him. Once I read up on the mechanics, I switched to Enhancement and did this rotation to kill him quickly:

Have talents Forceful Winds (for the extra Windfury procs), Sundering for a big damage hit, and Ascendance to turn Stormstrike into Windstrike (which has a 66% lower cooldown then standard Stormstrike).

Then use this rotation:

Alternate Rockbiter and Frostbrand until the boss freezes.

Use Feral Spirit and go into Ascendance immediately upon freezing.

Alternate Rockbiter and Windstrike, and throw in a Sundering, until he dies.

So I just killed Viscidus using this toy. 冰霜冲击枪

Before I began, I had the following trinkets:
Crate of Kidnapped Puppies
Manual of Void Calling
(though you can use any trinket that summons more than 1 of something (Like Barov Peasant Caller, for instance.)

DO NOT USE YOUR BLASTER UNTIL Viscidus is at 1 HP.

First, I had to damage Vis until he was at 1 HP. Once this is done, THEN click your Endothermic Blaster. A button should pop up in the center of your screen to use.
Second, you will need to be sure you're standing inside of Viscidus when you're hitting the Blaster Button. You'll need to hit him 20 times for him to fully freeze.
Once he is frozen, use your trinkets, click off the Endothermic Buff, and kill away!

As a hunter, you can frost trap him 20 times as well. The wife and i just tried, and are absolutely flabbergasted that no one in 20 years has tried this.

I got to this guy as a hunter without any frost damage on hand.
I thought about what pets might work and realized Chimaeras have Frost Breath and Froststorm Breath, but I didn't have one on me. So I dropped my guild bank, pulled out the materials to craft an Interdimensional Companion Repository, then swapped to BM to pull out my Chimaera and let it freeze the boss.

Viscidus AQ40 Ret Paladin solo (without respec, AH and Enchants)
Tip / Guide
So I spent some time reading guides / watching "smart" videos about investing into Haste gear, buying pots (I even leveled Alchemy to make that Frost Oil), respeccing into other talents and stuff... NO. Don't do that.

Get this axe 布伦希尔达巨斧 -- Quest chain starting from this 她们把男人都抓走了！ allows you to go into the village to buy a Frost 2h weapon from 锻造师齐格菲娜 vendor (when you are in the quest disguise, she is friendly), that weapon you need to freeze Viscidus after some Frost damage hits. (Frost Oil is just unacceptably slow, forget it)

Get this trinket -- 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器 It requires your "favorite" Garrison activity (just build a Lumber Mill and help Barov). But you may have leveled some time in Draenor anyway to this point. No need for ANY Haste gear or 1h weapon or Enchant or Potion!

WEAR the trinket before the combat (you won't have time in the process).

Autoattack (!) Viscidus with your 2h Frost axe until he freezes. No rush, just keep hitting Frost. There is orange text description what's going on.

Once he is frozen in place (dark blue with crystals), USE the trinket (don't use it before that, because the peasants will die). I guess similar swarm/minion trinkets will work as well (in case you sold Barov one long ago). You just need the NUMBER of hits (not DPS!) in short time.

Watch him die.

So next time you farm, just grab this trinket and that axe with you.

Alright as a 120 frost mage joined by a 120 elf druid, we froze and whacked repeatedly, but nothing happens. We bring him to 1% and we must missing something because the the slime-ball won't die. Ok, after many failed attempts we realized that magic damage did nothing. It was actual fist whacking and kicking that shattered the slime-ball. While whacking on him, watch the chat box for progress. I don't think I needed to strip down to the essentials to do it.

I fought Viscidus today for the first time since the 9.0 patch and I was pleasantly surprised to find out on my Elemental Shaman (level 50) that I didn't have to switch to Enhancement. All I had to do was spam Frost Shock and then when it was frozen, I was able to finish it off with the Primal Strike we now have access to spamming it until it shattered.

Elemental force enchant on weapon works also. Just get 20 procs and he freezes then you can shatter.

As of the Shadowlands pre-patch (9.0.1), this boss cannot be killed solo as a Frost Mage.
The boss is locked at 2 HP and will not die after being frozen, and you are unable to deal enough physical strikes quickly enough to cause him to shatter, even with Icy Veins and Time Warp active with an 1.80 speed dagger.
A Mechagnome Mage might be able to manage it with their HOLO racial ability, as the copies only make physical attacks.

Warlocks can solo this boss without any setup. Spec into Desctruction and hit with chaos bolts. Since chaos counts as every damage type it counts towards the frost counter. Then just have a melee pet or even cast your infernal cooldown to speed it up.

Anyone else just done this for the first time and got this guy down to 2 HP and saw he stopped taking damage. Then popped onto Wowhead just to go "What the heck?" when they realized of all things you need FROST DAMAGE to kill this guy?

Just killed him as a Paladin, basically just following the advice given in other post. Confirming here for those who think it can not easily be done as a Pally (who can only equip weapons speed 2.6 or above, can't dual wield and have no inherent weapon speed increase).

- Equipped a cheap green speed 2.6 one hand with 附魔武器 - 元素之力 for the cold damage to freeze him. Took a while but it worked.

- As soon as he froze, I used 巴罗夫管家铃, 速度药水 and another haste on use trinket I happened to have, Wakener's Frond , in that order.
I then unequipped my weapon, hoping unarmed speed would be faster, and just kept hitting him. Managed to get him down with ~5s left in his freeze.

I made sure to get out of the Toxin on the ground under me, not sure if it was necessary but I didn't want to waste my try to find out.

Another note, after moving from Frankris into the next chamber you need to follow the circling "bridge" upwards. If you're in the chamber with sand flowing down from the wall and wondering where Viscidus is, you're in the wrong chamber. Just move directly upwards using the spiral bridge until you see him in another chamber.

I had to respec from prot to fury to be able to kill him, because one weapon doesnt seem to be enough. I used a deathfrost enchanted, 1.80 speed, dagger + brunnhildar harpoon + mr. munchykins trinket that gives 151 haste for 15sec.

I only auto attacked and used the trinket as soon as he got frozen.

KILLING SOLO IN SHADOWLANDS:

I have been farming the bracers for my paladin set and couldn't kill, i didn't have the crate of puppies or anything else which would attack for me. The simple solution for me was;

Log onto my frost DK, obviously do frost damage until he freezes, summon your ghoul for 1 minute (or even better use army of the dead with unholy) and he will go down first time.

I spent all this time on paladins, warriors, trying to find rares for crate of puppies and finding people to help etc, in the end all i needed was my DK with its ghoul to help me attack! I felt so silly for not thinking of it before!

Level 60 Paladin:

1. Got Crate of Kidnapped Puppies from the Pandaria rare Borginn Darkfist
2. Enchanted a random 2h weapon with Elemental Force
3. Ate some +30 haste food (Not sure if actually needed)
4. Equip the weapon and the trinket
5. Auto attack Viscidus until it freezes
6. Use the trinket
7. Use Crusade/Avenging Wrath and other cooldowns
8. Use all melee attacks at your disposal.

It went down 2 seconds after popping wings and Seraphim, so I reckon the puppies do most the work.

I'm surprised no one mentioned it, but the 波动之潮 azerite trait works for this boss.

All you need is your 艾泽拉斯之心 equipped and 5 棱彩法力珍珠 to buy an azerite piece from 发现者帕尔塔 (Horde) or 工匠伊塔努 (Alliance).

The trait is found on:

Cloth shoulders: 希拉凯斯披肩
Leather shoulders: 猎渊者肩章
Mail chest: 艾萨亚雷风暴涌流者外衣
Plate helm: 赞齐尔鳞卫护面

Did this 9.05 Shadowlands as a protection paladin with 附魔武器 - 元素之力 on a green 1 hander, 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器 trinket (does work in raid), 死亡凶蛮战鼓.

Just spam auto attacks and 正义之锤 until it goes frozen. Then hit your lumberjack caller, drums, and hit .

Easy mode.

I'm a druid and killed Viscidus using 附魔武器 - 元素之力 along with the trinkets 陶制碎片 & 一箱被诱拐的小狗. I just wacked Viscidus for maybe about a minute or two until he was frozen and then popped the trinkets when he was frozen. :)

Confirmed soloable as 60 mage in 9.0.5, without racial, covenant or trinket haste boost (am human and nightfae).

I have 717 haste (21.73%), if you have less than that, you might need a trinket like 唤醒者的复叶 to boost you up.

Spec frost, with 热能真空 talent in last row
Equip 1.8 speed dagger, I used 祭师匕首

I autoattacked and used frost spells until he turned blue then froze. The second he froze I activated Icy Veins and Time Warp, kept autoattacking. He cracked then died. No pet this time, but I'll be back.

Note that I wasn't able to solo him earlier this expansion, so if you're having trouble, get a bit more haste via trinkets or gear. 717 haste definitely works, you might get away with less :)

2. Equip a fast weapon, I used 锋利的血色十字军波刃剑
3. Use frost spells until he's frozen (ensure you're already in the process of auto-attacking)
4. Activate the new trinket from questing reward in Maldraxxus: 玛卓克萨斯战争号角
5. Activate 时间扭曲
6. Activate 冰冷血脉

I couldn't get the trinket from the valley of four winds via the rare spawn. So this is a much easier and guaranteed attainable item that does work.

This is a big pain as a 圣骑士 in Shadowlands 9.0.5, but after an hour of messing around this is what worked for me:

22% haste
狂热, , and 征伐 talents
A one handed weapon enchanted with 附魔武器 - 元素之力 (the two-hand ice weapons are too slow!)
死亡凶蛮战鼓 (currently 115g on Area-52 AH).

Use whatever abilities until he's about to freeze, then build to 5 holy power. Crusade haste buff is activated by spending holy power, up to 10 (30% haste) so it's important to have it ready to spend. As soon as he freezes, I use this cast sequence (Kyrian):

/castsequence reset=60 Drums of Deathly Ferocity,Avenging Wrath,Seraphim,Judgment,Divine Toll,Templar's Verdict,Wake of Ashes,Templar's Verdict

Note that Avenging Wrath actually casts Crusade.

After that, just unload on him. It seems that only physical attacks count, which in SL is only Crusader's Strike and Blade of Justice. BoJ requires a two handed weapon, meaning all you need to do is Judgement to proc Zeal and Crusader's Strike on CD. After many attempts using info from older guides, this is what worked for me. I'm not sure where the base haste % point is where I'd no longer need Drums, but it's worth experimenting to find out to save some gold. 唤醒者的复叶 would likely do the trick if you have it.

If you're a transmog nerd like me and want to complete the Avenger set, you will need to beat him to get Gauntlets of the Righteous Champion.

Did it on my Elemental Shaman

1: buy any weapon with 1.8 speed (I used ritualist dagger)
2: Enchant it with Gale-Force Striking
3: I believe used Drums of death striking? (whichever one gives you haste)
4.Frost shock until frozen
5: Summon Earth Elemental, Cast Heroism, Auto attack til dead
6: Done!

Ok, so, be me, lvl 60 Human Prot Paly, w/ ilvl 220 Korthia gear upgraded to tier 4, (very casual player, never raid, only do dungeon finder for quests). 1 shot this guy to 1 HP, then cant kill him. Read these comments, went and got a speedy one handed weapon that's below iLevel 50 (i got "Cudgel of Naralex" from a 3 quest chain from Naralex the Night Elf in the Southern Barrens). Went to the Auction House and got "Enchant Weapon Elemental Force", enchanted the "Cudgel of Naralex", then went to Kun Lai Summit in Pandaria, camped "Borginn Darkfist" for prob 7 kills (approx 1 hour reset) 'til he dropped "Crate of Kidnapped Puppies" (some horror stories say like 21 kills on his wowhead page). Went back to T.o.A.Q. equiped my now elemental cudgel, equipped my puppies trinket, went and wailed on Viscidus (down to 1 hp in a second) for a couple of minutes, moving every so often to get out of his noxious gas AOE (that dis not hurt me at all, i just found the build up of debuffs annoying), building up holy power to max, he turned blue after a while, and then after a while longer he froze with ice shards sticking out of him (there's orange commentary in your log when this occurs), when he froze i clicked my puppies trinket and unleashed all i had built up, took about 10 seconds and then he died. Bam! If i can do it, you can, i've got nothing special equipped other than what i gathered on these comments. PS. Sorry i don't know how to link pages, but every link you'll need is in other comments.

Very easy even as low geared in haste melee. I did it on my alt retribution. You need only 3 things: 1. any 1h weapon (best is heirloom coz you may send it between toons) with 附魔武器 - 元素之力, 2. 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器 trinket and 3. 一箱被诱拐的小狗 trinket.

Go to boss, hit it with autoattack with your 1h until it freezes, launch trinkets, attack him with autoattacks and its done.

IMO the fastest and cheapest way to get a hold of frost damage to kill this thing is to buy a weapon with frost dmg at Warsmith Sigfinna. (Unless you can make the enchants yourself ofc)
It takes a couple of hits but eventually he will start to freeze.

DO NOT go after the oil! It doesn't work anymore.

Just killed it on my elemental shaman. Spammed Frost Shock x20 to freeze it, summoned the Earth Elemental (melee), cast Heroism, and spammed auto-attack (kept clicking the right mouse button on the target). Works like a charm without any special trinkets!

as of 9.1.5 the elemental enchantment works.
as a BM hunter soloing it, don't fret about acquiring any trinkets to spam enough melee attacks in the given 15 second window.
get the animal companion talent, combine it with 2 fast (& elemental enchanted) daggers, and you're good to go.

i hypothesize that you may not even need dual enchanted daggers, perhaps you can do the enchanting on a single melee weapon for yourself, but you'll have to use a pet that can give primal rage, and you should still be comfortably shattering the ice in time.
have not tried this yet though.
(but, double enchanted daggers will still freeze the boss quicker than a single one)

Weapon is 10g from vendor
Enchant is ~500g from AH
Frost dmg trinket is from Night Fae table missions or Star Lake Amphitheater event / Large Lunarfall Pod

As druid you can go into Cat Form to get <1s autoattack speed with that polearm and you dont need any of those summon tirnkets ^^
edit: One more thing - Deathfrost enchant does't proc for high level players so avoid using it, same applies to Frost Oil as others mentioned.

If anyone's struggling in 9.1.5 or doesn't want to spend all their time camping a rare for a trinket, here's how I did it as a Retribution Paladin:

Prep:
Equip 磨旧的痛击之刃 heirloom as your main hand
Buy 幽冥铁幼龙 from the AH (was 2k) as your first trinket
Equip either 队长的徽章 or 瑞亚的最后一枚卵 - both can be acquired faster than waiting on rares. Either get quick rep done, or do the quest if you haven't yet.
Buy 死亡凶蛮战鼓, 暗冠烧烤肉冻, and any other haste consumables you can find.

For Ret:
Talent into 狂热, 正义之火, , and 征伐.

For other classes:
Talent into abilities that translate into more haste or more auto-attacks.

Execution:
1. Use 冰霜冲击枪 to freeze boss.
2. Use drums, haste talents like and 征伐, and your trinket.
3. Spam 十字军打击 or your Physical damage ability if not Ret.
4. Collect loot

I wrote this because I spent a lot of time sitting on rares that weren't dropping trinkets that were mentioned in other comments, so I found easier ones to get and realized how valuable the heirloom is even sacrificing 公正之剑 usage. Hope it helps!

Today is April 6th 2022.

I came in as Balance spec, with Elemental force wep enchant Even resto affinity level 52. item level 95, almost no shadowlands anything.

Went cat, made a snap macro for autoattack and auto attacked until froze, then used the shred - ferocious bite and the snapback macro and won it.

If you have Endothermic Blaster toy, use it and spam the ability until the boss is 3/3 frozen. Remove the toy buff and attack until the boss dies.

Slower-attacking classes may need to find a way to generate more attacks (swapping to a dagger, using a trinket that summons minions etc.).

As a paladin in Shadowlands, you have to be creative. Get a weapon with Elemental Force and choose Kyrian with Mikanikos as your souldbind. Queue up about 70 hits so Bron is ready to come out. As soon as the boss freezes, pop seraphim and use hammer of the righteous on cooldown. Bron should join and you should get enough physical strikes to kill the boss. (Spinny Hammers do not work).

Shadowlands 9.2.5 - 27.07.2022 - Unprepared Level 50 Frost Mage - You need fast melee weapon for it and you can use heirloom daggers which has got 1.80 speed, you can't see daggers at with mage filter at your heirlooms tab, change it to "All Classes" and if you didn't buy any dagger before as heirloom just login another toon, buy, relogin your mage and create it. Start with burst Frostbolt, Flurry, Ice Lance etc. it gets %1 instantly. After that when it is frozen cast Time Warp + Icy Veins and only do melee attack. Most important part is you have cast Time Warp + Icy Veins at same time, without Ice Lances haste you can't get enough melee tick.

Arcane mage here. Switched spec to frost for this fight.

The only way I could beat Viscidus was by:

1) Select "Thermal Void" in talents
2) Switch to an Heriloom dagger (1.80 speed)
3) Eat Tenebrous Crown Roast Aspic (speed buff food)
4) Summon Water Elemental

Get within melee range

5) Cast Icy Veins and Time Warp
6) Freeze with Ice Lance

*as soon as he's frozen solid, don't waste time with any more spells*

7) Right click to melee attack until he's dead

I tried everything else I read here, but nothing worked until I tried this combo. Haste (with food buff) is 335.

i play as a fury warrior (ilvl293 kyrian covenant) and i spent forever reading different ways i could solo it.

i have the endothermic blaster and was able to freeze him, but had no luck when he pacified me. i tried all my attacks then on a whim clicked on my steward, and he knocked me out of the pacified state and i was able to whirlwind over and over again until viscidus shattered and died.

hopefully this helps any other solo pet hunter out there :D

Have any Priests successfully killed Viscidus? I went in with my level 52 Shadow Priest using 冰霜冲击枪 to freeze him, my Haste was at 26%, weapon was enchanted with 附魔武器 - 元素之力 and gloves were enchanted with 公式：附魔手套 - 冰霜能量. When he froze, I used the 法夜守护者 Night Fae covenant ability, 暗影魔 spell, 陶制碎片 trinket, and smacked him with my heirloom weapon 地狱咆哮的作战法杖 that has 3.6 Speed, but I still didn't manage to melee him down fast enough. At level 52, my Priest is not high enough level to have 能量灌注. Maybe the only way I could do this on my Priest is if she reaches level 58 and has PI. I went through a ton of time & effort getting that trinket, obtaining and crafting the enchants, buying low level gloves so I could use the enchant on them, etc. Really wish Blizzard would do something about this boss so we didn't have to jump through a dozen hoops just to kill him for a chance at a pet, and then fail at it repeatedly until we get it JUST right.

Shadowlands 9.2.7 (Dragonflight Prepatch) - 28.10.2022 - Unprepared level 50 frost DK - Blizzard's starter talents, only changed Gathered Storm -> Empower Rune Weapon. Used 2xheirloom one hand sword which have 2.60 speed. Start with some frost skills like Howling Blast and Frost Strike and when it get %1 hp it freezes. After that cast Raise Dead + Horn of Winter + Empower Rune Weapon and start to spam Death Strike + Obliterate.

The Crate of Kidnapped Puppies strat seems to have been nerfed with the 10.0 pre-patch. The summoned puppies kept missing their attacks.

Might need some suggestions here.
As of Dragonflight Pre-Patch i am unable to kill Viscidus anymore. I use a sword with the Elemental Force enchantment and i use the Barov Lumberjack Caller trinket to help me break through the ice. I have attempted this twice and cant seem to have enough physical damage to break. I am a Ret Paladin. Any suggessions?

Just tried it as Evoker and it's pretty much impossible without some kind of trinket to increase the number of melee attacks going out. Even with a dagger equipped and using Fury of the Aspects I was only able to get off about 2/3s of the necessary hits within the time limit. Without some sort of trinket to spawn a minion or a friend to help you attack, you can't get enough hits off to shatter him before he thaws. I wish Blizzard would make this boss less obnoxious, given that it's ANCIENT content, but until/unless they do, work-arounds are still necessary.

As for freezing him, Azure Strike deals spellfrost damage and is pretty much perfect for the job. If you do have some way to increase your physical attack output, it should be a piece of cake.

Evokers' Spellfrost abilities like 碧蓝打击 count for the freeze phase, thus you can solo this as an Evoker, BUT, like other spellcasters (except for warlock), you will need a trinket like 巴罗夫伐木工召唤器 in order to get in enough melee hits.

For anyone trying to solo as a Hunter in Dragonflight.

Just managed to solo as a Beast Mastery Hunter by putting two points into the Arctic Bola talent in the Hunter tree (second line from the bottom), which will occasionally deal Frost Damage with Cobra Shot (though looks like it converts to Aimed Shot for Marksmanship or Mongoose Bite for Survival Hunters).

Took a few minutes of nothing but spamming Cobra Shot, but it eventually proc'd and he froze (different to when he turns blue, don't get these confused. It's very obvious when he freezes). I was able to then just DPS shatter all three stages quite quickly.

Cannot bring him down post Dragonflight. Frost DK using both the Crate of Kidnapped Puppies, the Barov Lumberjack Caller and a ghoul still am not getting enough melee hits to kill him after he freezes.

Dragonflight - Frost Mages with 1.8 speed dagger, Icy Veins and Timewarp as well as Elemental Shamans with their Earth Elemental, Heroism and dagger (heirloom) work just fine.

I really wanted the pet.
That's how I soloed this guy and it took me only 15 seconds.
My Death Knight was a star for the day.
Unholy spec and rune of Razorice Enchant on your weapon.
That's it. Fight him and as soon as he is frozen pull your Army of dead and let your ghouls deal with him.
Piece of cake.

Fury Warrior, soloed this today with Frozen Devotion on my weapons. Took about 5 minutes before he froze, then I went to town and won.

Enhancement Shamans, just get two daggers, put Elemental Force on them and just auto attack (make sure you have WIndfury Weapon active, too) while casting Frost Shock on cooldown. Easy kill.

Ret paladin unable to kill this guy. Got the Brunnhildar axe so freezing him is no problem. Also got in 31-33 hits with physical damage before he unfroze several times. But he just unfroze and kept laughing at me. How many hits do you need? I used trash blade, seraphim, crusade, zeal. enchanted trash blade with howling rune, ate some timely demise... Also used crate of kidnapped puppies but it does not look like they do anything at all?

Found something that works on my Paladin

I have 2 weapons in my bag for this:
Thrash blade with gale force striking
Random green with Elemental Force

I tried for a while as prot, but ended up getting it my first time trying as Ret, but here is the rotation I used. Start with the elemental Force 1 hander equipped, have full holy power, and get ready once you see he is freezing up. Once he froze this is the rotation I used:

Crusade(Talent)
Swap to the thrash Blade
Divine Toll(Talent)
Seraphim(Talent)
After this just burn through as much HP as you can to build Crusade to 10 stacks asap. You can't use Boj with a 1 hander so its mainly judgement and CS to build and dump through JV or TV. You could actually spec WOA (I was running decree so if your not building enough HP, try wake instead)

Worked first try for me, but might have been just luck but it is possible without any pet trinkets or anything like that.

The Endothermic Blaster toy also works to freeze him. Press the cold button it gives you over and over like 60 times and it will freeze the guy. Once he is in an icecube, click off the toy buff and do as many attacks as possible.

Dragonflight : Using the 10.07 Ring with Freezzing ice stone (upgraded) got it done with 13 hits (2 crits if that matters) for me.
edit: I also had Arctic Bola (hunter talent tree node), so nothing definitive sadly on the ring.

Dragonflight: Took my frost mage (lv 52) here, farmed a box of puppies but they kept missing (maybe I was too far?). So I also had on the trinket 克苏恩的触须 which I had gotten from the end boss C'thun in the same raid, figured I would use that and go unarmed (so just basic melee attacks), popped 时间扭曲 and I managed to shatter him! I went right in the middle of his body. So if you just have that tentacle trinket it's enough! No need to farm the box of puppies XP (which took me about 7 or so killings to get)

If you need it for ANY toon > you can just make your own Premade Custom group with said toone and a Frost Mage with Icy Veins, Timewarp and dagger.
Kinda similar with the solo Frostmourne quest when you need to do the vampiric bite 3 times with Shadow's Edge.

You engage it with Main > swap to Mage > kill > loot on mage go back to MAIN > loot again.

I made it solo two times with my lvl 70 Marksmanship Hunter. I used Phial of Glacial Fury to freeze the boss, and then my pet scattered it in 10 seconds. (First I tried without the pet, by using just a sword, but didn't work. Sword + pet -> worked well.)
The boss dropped the battle pet at the second run.

Holystrike damage doesn't seem to do anything to break the ice, even though it's half holy half psychical damage. I don't know if this is a bug or by design but the only way to break the ice may be pure psychical damage.

Something must have changed in 10.x (writing this in 10.1.0), or I'm doing something terribly wrong.

As a shadow priest, I can easily freeze the boss with Mind Spike, however I can't melee the boss to death. I'm using Power Infusion, Shadowfiend, 1.8 Speed dagger (there's nothing faster in 10.1.0), Terracotta Fragment AND Crate of Kidnapped Puppies. But this isn't enough to melee the boss to death while freezed.

To all my Ret paladins in here, I'm pretty damn sure I tried literally everything I could to defeat this boss within this current DF Patch and I'm just barely not able to. I'm therefore confident It's not solo-able anymore. Just to be clear this is everything I used during my Tests:

Barov Lumberjack Caller AND Feral Hide Drums
Brunnhildar Great Axe (To build up Frost)
One handed weapon enchanted with Gale-Force Striking (Break Ice)

With this setup I was able to get to the "Looks ready to shatter!", but not enough to actually shatter him. I also tried using a one-handed Holystrike build with Justicar's vengeance but It Didn't change much. If anyone can prove me wrong please do.

Today, Got the bastard Viscidus, ALMOST solo!

Used an ALT...Hunter with PET !
Made group > Started fight on my ret pally > switched to Hunter to engage in fight and SEND PET to attack > switched to pally (ready to freeze by now) froze > continued on pally > SHATTERRED ! > loot on Pally > log back into Hunter and loot as well (more chance for Pet - i looted mine!, when Pally's loot didn't have the Pet).

Key things / equipment on the ret pally:
布伦希尔达鱼叉 Brunnhildar Harpoon (for its Frost Damage per hit, for freezing Viscidus)
Weapon was enchanted with 附魔武器 - 战歌之印 Draenor Enchanting: Mark of Warsong

** Also had this trinket: 雕像 - 翡翠野猪 Figurine - Emerald Boar, BUT I am not sure on how much of an impact it had because of the Pet from the Alt.
Will try again next week without that trinket and without this one: 幼龙的冲动 Young Drake's Impulse, which gave me Haste (128 @ Max lvl 70) and Speed (119 Max lvl 70).
** Also had MANY items on, that had Haste in their Stats (will try again next week without these as well... )

*** Keep in mind That I have tried just about anything else that was posted throughout Wowhead (including the option to just go full solo with 一箱被诱拐的小狗 Crate of Kidnapped Puppies and also I had this one at the same time: 扎维兹坦船长遗失的小腿 Captain Zvezdan's Lost Leg and still wasn't enough) - there just isn't enough damage anymore...

...I wonder what 一箱炸弹 Box of Bombs, would do for extra damage at shattering time... ?

As a resto shaman farming for mogs, I had to swap to enhancement, then use the Heirloom Balanced Heartseeker + pop earth elemental and wolves. The freezing was a little slow since there's a longer cd on frost shock but it worked.

I'm on a mission to kill all bosses in all instances. I wasn't expecting this much trouble this early. I'm playing a monk. After some trials and tribulations it took me about 2 hours and running back and forth to AH to get stuff to try and kill this.

What worked in the end:
* Windwalker spec
* Dual wielding Draconium Knuckles (500gp)
* Enchanted with Frozen Devotion (3kgp)

Just smacked until it got frozen. Then popped Xuen and SEaF and spammed all the buttons that conceivably could do me considered melee damage. Only took couple of seconds, while with my previous attempts I couldn't kill it before it thawed again.

I'm not sure if the green mists matter, but I also dragged the mob around to keep it out of those just to be sure.

For my Ret friends :
Use 破旧的大锤 the only weapon with fast enough speed to do it . Spent 20 tries with heirloom 2.6 speed weapon and then simply first tried with 1.8 mace.

With the frustrating nerfs to on-use summoning trinkets always missing their attacks, the new Defender of the Winterpelt trinket seems to work well enough.
As an Evoker I was able to use an Heirloom Dagger with Fury of the Aspects and a proc from the furbolg trinket to finally break Viscidus.

For the freezing part, be sure to check your toybox for 冰霜冲击枪 its all you'll need for that part. Take him to 1, stand inside of him, and use this till he freezes. Its slow but works for every class/every spec-no need for special portions, enchants, spells, talents, etc. Once frozen, click off the buff and proceed with class/spec-specific damage tips.

If you don't have the toy, you can farm it next Winter Veil and in the meantime, proceed with special portions, enchants, spells, talents, etc :)

This is such an annoying thing to solo lol. On a ret pally, I found a 1.80 speed weapon, put on elemental force, took the crusade ability to give me haste when I spend holy power in wings, popped wings a little after the "Viscidus is freezing up" message to give me time to build up haste, and then sure enough it was enough to take him down. Other melee classes I'm sure you can do similar things and even easier if you can dual wield.

I had haste food buff, managed to freeze him solid with 冰霜冲击枪, once frozen solid I pulled 野性皮革战鼓 and attack cds.... and still was not fast enough.
Next try in 30 mins because of cooldown from 冰霜冲击枪.

This is one of these tasks in this game where I am turning around, walk away and don't come back to this for years (again). And I am so glad I'll be saving myself from a lot of trouble.

Used Endothermic Blaster Toy. Took about a minute to freeze him. Then you're PACIFIED for a few seconds... His health was instantly zero due to the damage you do so once the Pacification passes - he instantly dies and of course - didn't drop any Mail gear for my Hunter...

But at least this is one easy way to complete this fight if you need to...

Ugh, didn't know about the frost thing on my first run. Came back with a low-level BOE green sword enchanted with Elemental Force, and got him down in a minute or so, no sweat.

Managed to kill him with my Retribution Paladin with 破旧的大锤, 冰霜冲击枪, and 一箱被诱拐的小狗.

Farmed 破旧的大锤. I farmed it here (took a couple of hours, though): 投机的强盗, /way #37 47.6 12.6 Opportunistic Bandit
The item level of the weapon was 122, so I couldn't enchant it with 附魔武器 - 元素之力

Specced 征伐
Brought the boss down to 1 HP.
Spammed the button of 冰霜冲击枪 until the boss was frozen (3 stacks).
As soon as the boss is frozen, right-click the buff of 冰霜冲击枪.
Pop 征伐, 野性皮革战鼓, and 一箱被诱拐的小狗 (according to the log, they dealt damage).

Easily doable as a BM Hunter:
- Get 动物伙伴 and 凶暴野兽
- Use 冰霜冲击枪 until it freezes
- Quickly right-click the buff to get rid of the toy and spam 倒刺射击 to make your pets attack as fast as possible
- Make sure you're autoattacking him too, get a faster bow from a vendor or AH if you want to make it easier
- It should die to the combined hits from you and all your pets

For anyone bringing an Evoker through here: your Blue spells will freeze Viscidus, I haven't been able to figure out yet how to get the melee hits necessary for the kill, though.

Three viable solutions I've tested so far:

1. Any Spec Hunter with Arctic Bola talent - use Cobra Shot to proc Arctic Bola, just takes a couple of minutes to freeze Viscidus
2. Frost Death Knight - regular frost abilities will freeze Viscidus quickly, once frozen pop minions for additional melee damage. Dual wield works best for extra speed/hits
3. Any Spec Rogue (and assuming any other spec/class) with max level heirloom weapons (I used Balanced Heartseekers) enchanted with Deathfrost (requires a low level alt to enchant and then mail to your high level character).

Out of the three, the Frost DK and Rogue were pretty even in speed, with the Hunter coming a couple of minutes behind - but still feasible. Hope this helps!

Also remember you can a) ride your ground mount all the way to Viscidus, even if it appears "indoors", and b) you don't need to kill the other bosses first. Makes grinding for pet drops much easier!

If you're here to do the Raiding With Leashes achievement, I'm here to tell you now, if you're a Mage, you're wasting your time. There is no way for a Mage to beat this creature. You can freeze it, but no weapon you could possibly use will cause it to shatter before it thaws.

Buy the pet at the AH, and save yourself the time.

Getting loot from this boss is cake now. Bring a warrior, equip two 1.8 speed daggers and pop a phial of glacial fury. Auto attack the boss until he freezes. Pop feral hide drums, bladestorm. He dies quick.

I got the last set piece for my Pali and the pet in one try. Finally done with this place!

Anyone else having problem with Viscidus since TWW?
I can freeze him up easy but then it doesn't progress into the shatter phase.
Even a frost mage can't affect him.

can't get it to work, can slow him, can freeze him, can freeze him solid (within 5 seconds) but for some reason the mechanics are broken because i can't shatter him. brunnhildar great axe, full haste retri paladin, so i'm hitting him faster than the GCDs on my strike abilities allow... so he freezes solid really quickly. just nothing afterwards. goes back to normal; 5 seconds frozen solid.

i miss the days of frost oil (and no that no longer works, as the frost bolt never procs properly now)

just can't shatter... blizzard screws mechanics over everytime they do something in a new patch. don't get me started on the amount of dungeon bosses that might not "start" due to mechanics changes in later expansions
