Dragonling hit's for 40 to 85 damage. That's IF it hit's mainly just get's dodged and misses a lot.

Something key to take note of - This is a trinket that's usable by ANYONE, not just engineers. So far, it's looking like a great way to make a profit on the way to 600 engineering!
Seriously, this will be a must-have for almost anyone. It's relatively cheap to make (28 ores + 12 cloth) and gives 1800 secondary stat points with your choice of gears. No "on use" no "chance on xxx", just simple stats all the time.

Should read "manufacture" not "summon".

Tried it on lvl 85 dummy. The Dragonling does several attacks and casts before disappearing, doing around 15k each time he pops : pretty bad. Seems to have something like 1min/1min15 Cd.

Is the pattern a drop or is it bought somewhere ?

This thing is AMAZING, saw it on the AH while price checking Ghost Iron and searched it here on WoWHead to see that cogwheels are usable by non-engineers! Grabbed one of these for 500g and a mastery and hit cog for 50g each! A deal on day 2 of the expansion! Just need to find someone with the recipe for the expertise cog and my tank with have an awesome trink til 90 at least.

For anyone who was wondering and too lazy to do the math: Base mats are 14 ghost iron bars (20 including cogwheels) and 12 windwool cloth

Doesn't really seem to make sense that this would be usable by non-engineers... ?

If we have a haste cogwheel gem in this trinket, does that mean engineers cannot put a haste cogwheel in our engineering helm? If this is the case I feel like engineers are getting screwed by blizzard on this one...

Its worth knowing, as I was a little confused, that on the cogwheel "gems" it says they're only usable by Engineers, but even if you're not you can still buy them and socket them for the effect.

Here's how much damage it did for me. I'm a level 87 paladin with mostly 430 blues, attacking the level 85 target dummy.
The first thing the dragon usually does is cast lighting breath, which did ~6k. Then it began melee attacks, doing about ~1k each, 6-7 times. Then it did another lightning breath before disappearing. It sometimes crits, which does double damage. It triggers about once a minute and lasts about 20 seconds, so there's about 40 seconds of dragon downtime.
Just checked again at 90 with 450/463 tanking blues and a couple epics, and its damage hasn't changed. Too bad, but not really unexpected.

A good source of income for engineers I guess.
First for the trinket (if the competition on your server allows for profit) since every lvl87 char would want to buy it (even healers) to boost their ilvl for heroics.
And the cogwheels are useable by every profession you can make some money there too. For example they go for 150g on my server while the mats are cheap with 50g.

A quick way to make money with these is to go into Pandaria and alternate between the zones advertising in /1 (Not constantly, but every now and again) with "Selling Ghost Iron Dragonling (Level 87 ILvL 450 Trinket with 3 cogwheels of your choice 400g) I've made 25k in 2 days so far from the vast amount of people levelling wanting these.
Edit.
Just to end this little argument I thought I would say that, at the time I was selling these, the AH prices were crashing hard on Outland EU (Goldfarmers) So selling the ore on its own would have only gotten me 85 gold per stack and take several hours to sell due to being constantly undercut. Selling the Trinkets was WELL worth it and nothing you guys can say suggesting otherwise is folly and unnecessary.

Just found out it cannot be used with the engineering goggles because it puts you over the cogwheel limit.
评论来自
Toroq
This trinket is actually potentially more powerful for non-engineers than engineers. An engineer with the new goggles would use 5 cogwheels and a non-engineer would use 3. A healer, for example, doesn't even have 5 different cogwheels to benefit from.
This is a complete non-issue of course, since nothing is forcing you to use both items. It's just an observation.

A word of advice:
The dragonling's
闪电吐息
does a cone of damage to anything in its path, including neutral NPCs that just happened to walk by and inevitably get dragged into your fight. Once the dragonling has spawned it won't care if your fight involves
,
妖术
,
致盲
or any other form of crowd control, it will happily electrocute them all.
Also
潜行
or
will no longer get you out of harms way after a fight because the dragonling will just sit there and happily draw the full attention of anything that comes along willing to finish you off. Remember how handy
消失
or
隐形术
used come in when you were running low on health? Well forget about that because this critter will stay out in plain sight until it despawns and there's nothing you can do about it.
Don't get me wrong now I'm not trying to spoil the fun for anyone, but if you equip this trinket you will inevitably have an occasional extra trip from the cemetery back to your corpse. In other words:
Using this thing will get you killed once in a while. Welcome to engineering.
After five levels of slapping around countless unnecessary adds and a couple of extra deaths or near deaths I happily got rid of this annoying piece of equipment on the first chance I got and I'm not missing it at all!

Just wanted to give a warning to any Healers who are Engineers. If you plan on making the helm and the trinket for leveling from 87 or higher, please be aware that due to the unique-equipped cogs, one of your cog sockets will be left blank or filled with either Expertise, Hit, Parry, or Dodge, as there are only 4 truly useful stats for healers to use amongst the cogs. I didn't realize this before I had made both so unfortunately, after I filled in the slots with Spirit, Haste, Crit, and Mastery, I was left with slot open. Anyways, hope this helps! Happy leveling and questing to everyone!

The dragonling that is summoned appears to take damage, including aoe. It also appears to be immune to healing. I could not for the life of me figure out why I kept seeing "Immune" pop up when fighting a wide variety of mobs, then I started paying attention and it was when my bloodworms would explode and do the aoe heal and the dragonling was out.

Be careful when using this with a Disc Priest or Mistweaver Monk in the group as it will absorb Atonement and Eminence heals even when there are other targets that require healing.

I'm seriously have SUCH A HARD TIME finding something to replace this Trinket with. I know based purely on iLvl theres so many options out there... but even with the Epic Shado-Pan trinket, and all the Heroic Dungeon trinkets, NOTHING seems to give as much static Def/Exp/Hit as this does. (Prot Warrior btw - without Exp/Hit i make no rage, meaning no defensive cooldowns, meaning i dont live long in a high damage Raid Fight).
ANY suggestions ! Would be eternally grateful!

Ensure you don't have this bad boy equipped if you are soloing Tempest Keep, the proc allows Kael to mind control you which causes Kael to despawn/reset when the dragonling proc finishes.

Just a note to rogues: Don't bother with this trinket if you value your ability to stealth. This trinket pet (and any other like it) is a dead giveaway to your location. It also has the tendency to pull other mobs, especially ranged/casters if it gets hit first while you are in combat.

absolutely despised questing with this as a rogue. the dragonling agro'd so many mobs all the time. the trinket was worth it for the stats that the cogwheels provided, but the dragonling was an irritation to put up with.

Unfortunately I'm keeping it for the cogwheel stats... but yeah this item is a complete garbage for rogues that value their stealth skill... which I think is a 100% of us. Blizz seriously.. the pet proc of this item is a piece of %^&*. It barely does damage and it's like having a hunter's mark on your head once it spanws... ANYONE CAN SEE THE DAMN DRAGON!... even if you're stealthed. Is like: Hey you, Rogue here! AoE the crap out of this area in specific.
Blizzard.. please either hotfix it so it mimics player's stealth too or make it invisible for other players altogether... seriously.
This item must have been made by the idiot who created quests with NPCs that follow you and agro all the crap on their way.
That developer obviously though this would be fun for players too...

I would NOT recommend this to rogues who are leveling. The dragon follows and will pull mobs while you are in stealth.

Having one of these equipped and a second one of these in your bag and not equipped (or bound to you) will raise your iLVL if your other trinkets are below 450. Handy if your a couple of points off getting into LFR on a fresh 90 for example.

It should be noted that this trinket proves to be invaluable for many classes in challenge modes, due to the fact that gem sockets (and, by extension, cogwheel sockets) are not affected in any way by item scaling. Even though this little guy is only ilevel 450, it gives more bang for it's buck that most endgame trinkets.

Three cogwheel sockets, a little helper who spawns often and does a little damage and even temporarily tanks now and then. Sounds great, right? Well, it is until you're doing anything with adds in the area. The dragonling's attack loves to pull nearby mobs, and when it's out fluttering behind you, it also loves to aggro.
I've unequipped it several times when I am trying to take on mobs one at a time, losing the stat boost in favor of not getting multiple mobs on me. I am currently raising my rep with Shado-Pan and Shieldwall trying to get a new trinket asap.

==Edit==
With the release of Timeless Isle, my cash flow has decreased significantly. I'm pretty sure it's because Timeless isle is such a huge time sink and people are grinding out tokens rather than leveling alts now, hopefully this will increase as people go back to working on alts, but timeless trinket tokens, while not useful for leveling, may be having people skip out on spending money on dragonlings while they push for 90.
==Edit==
Currently I'm making between 7k and 10k a week on the AH as an Engineer/Miner and I don't sell anything I mine.
Read below and I'll explain how and why... I'm probably going to regret posting this as people are sure to move in on my market now.
In MoP, for engineers, the
幽冥铁幼龙
and it's
Gears
have finally made us a viable money making profession. The problem is it only makes it viable for 1-2 engineers per faction per server (At least via the AH).
Why people need them:
This trinket is usable at level 87, and with the +600 to 3 secondary stats makes it pretty much THE best trinket until you get into the ilvl 500+ epics. It's useful to every player in the game and binds on equip, meaning every alt needs one of their own, and the gears to go with it. Stealthers however need not apply due to the dragonling proc.
The problem with selling them:
As was leveling I knew about these but couldn't make them yet so I was constantly looking on the AH to get one and gears for it. What I found was that most of the time these were NEVER on the AH in my server. When they were on the AH there were either no gears, or gears that were useless to me. The point being. If the gears people need aren't available they will NOT drop the 200-500 gold these things sell for. Who wants a trinket that just procs a dragonling?
Solution and path to massive money:
If you want to sell
幽冥铁幼龙
s then you need to put up the gears as well, ALL the gears. If you put up 1 dragonling you need 1 of each of the 8 gears that can be slotted into it. This way people always see the gears they need. Best results come from having a large, constant supply. Anytime something sells, after you get your money from the mailbox the first thing you should do is replace it on the AH.
It takes 30
幽冥铁块
and 12
风绒布
to make a full "set" of dragonling and gears. As a miner the hardest part for me is maintaining enough windwool to keep up with the demand. I've even had to resort to buying stacks of windwool with
祥和之灵
from
达奇
(
克里斯托
for Alliance).
As of right now, anytime you go on the AH for my server, you'll find my auctions.
6
幽冥铁幼龙
4
火花修补匠齿轮
- Usually healer only so it doesn't sell as often.
4
诡秘修补匠齿轮
- Same reason as above but for tanks.
4
闪光修补匠齿轮
- Tanking again.
6
断裂修补匠齿轮
- The rest are DPS.
6
精准修补匠齿轮
6
迅捷修补匠齿轮
6
刚硬修补匠齿轮
6
圆润修补匠齿轮
I started out just doing 2
幽冥铁幼龙
, but would often log in to find they had all sold overnight, so I increased to 4. This worked well, but Tuesdays would often clean me out again (raid resets), so I upped it to 6, from here I've always had at least one still on the AH after I logged in.
Some days you won't sell anything at all. Some days you'll come in to 30+ mails full of gold.
I set a "decent" price and leave it. I don't worry about being undercut because as of yet I have no real competition. Most of the time my auctions are the only ones on the AH, at times someone under cuts me, but it's usually only 1-2 dragonlings and no gears, or a couple random gears. In either case, I still make money selling gears to a person that bought the other guy's dragonling, or sell a dragonling and only 1 or 2 gears with it. Pricing and demands will vary by server/faction so react accordingly.
The most important part to this is to keep up with demand. You need to maintain enough gears for your dragonlings. And enough dragonlings that people won't not find them when they look. Alternately you can 'partner' with someone else. One of you making gears and the other makes the dragonlings.
I recommend 3 addons for maintaining your supply/auctions.
Advanced Tradeskill Window
- This lets you queue up multiple items for creation, then you can click the "reagents" button to see exactly how many resources you need compared to what you have on you, in your bank, and on alts.
Carbonite
- It's an all in one package map and tons of other things. The reason I recommend it is for it's "warehouse" function. It can add into the tooltip of an item exactly how many you have on you, alts, in your bank, in the guild bank, and on the auction house. This lets you know while you're at an anvil/forge exactly how many items you need to make by checking the tooltip in the profession window. Any addon that does the same will work fine if you don't want to get Carbonite.
Auctioneer
- Can set-up batch posting of your gears and dragonlings making it easy to dump all you stuff back onto the auction house. It also tracks pricing, What sells and what doesn't, making it easier to adjust pricing to your server. Any Auction plugin that can do this will also be fine.

Warlocks, Take note - Do NOT use this, or any other trinkets that summon, on Kanrethad/Warlock Green Fire quest. The trinket may proc during the felhunter phases, which often causes one of them to turn around, and may cause it to 'eat' the enslave on your pit lord, which will likely lead to a wipe.

If you are a rogue (or possibly feral druid) with this trinket, you will be very eager to upgrade out of it. The dragonling loves to stay out while you are stealthed, and if it aggroes anything (or vice versa), the enemies will target you through stealth. And trust me when I say that this will happen frequently.
There is no way to despawn the pet except by waiting manually, also. This pet can be quite tedious... you'll likely find yourself spending valor on trinkets first if you own this trinket.

one thing that blizz put a limit on regarding sockets is that you can only have one of each named cogwheel
example i got both goggles and the trinket on hunter making it needed to use ONE of each crit, mastery, hit, expertise and haste
you can not have ex 2xexpertise cogwheels
found this out the hard way

well you can buy and equip the trinket and get the bonus of occasionally summoning a dragonling...but you cannot fill any of the sockets unless you are on engineer

Note that for 9.1.5 timewalking you'll need a Pandaria engineer to install the +12 stat gems, or a fully-leveled Cataclysm engineer to install the +16 stat gems. Not sure why engineers are crafting these things and then listing them on the AH without installing any cogwheels..

I just tried (7/3/2022) to make this for a level 20 warrior, well apparently you can't make a level 19 anymore, as you can no longer use the optional reagent slot "It requires "rank 40 skill", whatever that means. I double checked with an earlier warrior that I made. He still has his and can use it, but the skill has been unlearned. He can't make it anymore.
Edited: I just bought one (level 19) at the action house. So you can still buy them. I don't know if I can gem it. I'll leave another update on that.
Update: You can buy the trinket, but in order to add the cogwheels, you have to train Cataclysm engineering to 75. I did this and was able to place the cogwheels on the trinket.
