This is quite an irritating quest to complete. Once you make your way up to the hill with crowd on it you will see a small podium in front of the altar. Click on it and you will mount it in the same way as a vehicle or other mount. Your action bar changes and gives you options to work the crowd.

Members of the crowd will shout out comments (viewed in your chat pane - not audible) and you have to respond with a suitable response. You will get credit for correct ones and jeered by the crowd for bad ones. Once you have managed to get enough correct responses the crowd will start to riot and you will have completed the quest.

~~There is probably a place for someone in the future to record all of the crowd comments and appropriate responses. At the moment I can't be bothered.~~

OK. After doing this again and doing some research you may want to do the following;

Use Incite! when the crowd yells;

Raaahhh!
Blood!
Kill!
Kill them all!
Crush!
Death!

Use Pander! when the crowd yells;

It's like... it's like the void just touched my mind.
The end is nigh! The end is a new beginning!

And use Inspire! when the crowd yells;

This quest bugged out on me when I did it. When I completed it I wasn't able to leave the podium and had to completely disable my UI to get out. It may have been an issue with bartender4 not letting me out of the vehicle. Not even the /leavevehicle command registered.

I'd prefer to put the voices in the order that the buttons are located in your keyboard. Btw, use /reloadui after the quest if your bars are messed up (bartender, ctmod, etc...)

Not to be a word Nazi or anything...
A podium is a just a raised platform.
A lectern is a stand with a slanted top used to support a bible from which passages are read during a church service.

The thing you're standing behind in game is mistakenly named a podium, not a lectern.

There is also posturing of the crowd. If they raise their arms and hop, use the "incite" button. If they sit down, use "inspire," and if they point and laugh use the "pander" option.

I ended up not having to use the Incite option once, so the end result was that when I said: "Yes, my fellow initiates. The friend of my enemy's enemy... well he is also the enemy of my friend. And yes... he shall perish too!" (the crazy option), the crowd broke into a riot.

Pretty disappointingly random if you ask me, they should have at least designed it so that for the final time you will definitely need to use the Incite option or something.

I ended up using the smashing of all 3 buttons technique to complete this quest and it actually started to be fun as i imagined the buttons 1,2 and 3 being whoever is responsible for this

This quest again is buggy as hell you bar doesn't change
and doesn't show you the right buttons.

What I did was make 4 macros

Inspire: /click BonusActionButton1
Incite: /click BonusActionButton2
Pander: /click BonusActionButton3

Now if you need to stop the quest for any reason
use this macro to stop and step away from the
podium.

When the crowd is sitting down, they're bored, use skill 1 (inspire)

When the crowd is wielding swords, they're angry, use skill 2 (incite)

When the crowd is dancing, they're happy, use skill 3 (they're crazy)

You'll notice that the crowd responds to your action. While your action bar's on cooldown, the crowd will make another response - if you don't see it by the time the cooldown's up, give it a second or two, then choose the appropriate action. Otherwise, you may end up wasting time.

This! The quest is incredibly easy to do, as long as you don't get impatient and start spamming buttons. The key is in the quest text: "It'll be important to read your audience's emotions and use words that best address those emotions."

Click the podium, and wait. One of them will say something. If he's bored, then Inspire them; if he's angry, then Incite them, and if he sounds like Glenn Beck, then push the crazy button. Somebody else in the crowd will respond to you, and you'll know from their response whether you chose correctly or not. Then just wait a little and it will all happen again.

If you start spamming abilities, then you'll fall behind, you'll have no feedback and it will seem very frustrating.

You can click the button multiple times to get a successful speech.

That is, if you are supposed to click Inspire, press 1 multiple times in rapid succession. I've been able to get 3 completes from a single GCD.

Edit: No longer seems to be possible.

Turn in is right behind the podium. Talk to Jarod Shadowsong as the crowd is rioting. He'll tell you to meet him at the Gates of Sothann.

If you spam click on the appropriate action you can sometimes get an additional +1 towards completing the quest. I don't often advocate skipping lore or taking advantage of quest bugs, but when it's your third or fourth run through...or you sixth, *cough* you get a little tired of this quest.

One of the lines you drop when choosing "Pander" is a pretty blunt reference to the Cthulhu mythos, including words like "fhtagn". Not that the whole Twilight Cult thingie isn't a big bow to Lovecraft anyway.

I feel your pain Morzella :(.For the sake of the RP i did the Twilight Undercover quests to a certain extent so the NPC of Darkwhisper Gorge were left friendly to me.When we have a RP Guild Meeting the guild members and i meet up in The Forge Of Supplication.

I did this with my Level 85 DK-Unholy, No Pet! Followed pretty much what Igthomas blogged above and tried a little with what Viakarados, thanks goes to both of you. Jarod is the only one with a white "?" above his head, and a podium in front of him. So, when you get the #10, his White "?", turns to a Yellow "?". Click it and bug out. You do not get your reward until you return to the island where Jarod is now standing. Level up.

I couldn't use the "Pander" button as it didn't showed up to me, but the quest is easy to complete if you wait/pay attention to the audience reactions.

I've found that the easiest way is to spam click all the buttons at the same time. The correct one will go off and you will get credit. Sometimes you may get credited 2 corrects in one go.

DO NOT do this quest! It is horribly bugged and you will get stuck in the vehicle. Blizz has broken it and it should not be done until it is fixed.

If you get stuck, see Welde's comment above. Also, upvote his comment plz, so people see it until such time as Blizz fixes it.

I just did this with my third toon and there was a bug with the console. It ony had 1 and 2 as choices. 3 was gone and 4 was blank.

I pushed 1 if they were sitting and 2 if they were standing and that worked fine, but when I had gotten to 10 points and the killing started, the questlight turned yellow but I couldn't get away from the lectern. There was no release, so I couldn't get to Jarod.

I finally tried pressing 3 and it did nothing except there as a cooldown like it was an answer. Pressing 4 did nothing at all. Then I pressed 5 (which had no button on the console) and was released from the lectern.

I did this quest with my human paladin not to long ago. I only got the first two options, inspire! and incite! I didn't have pander or even step down. When I completed the quest I had to log out to get the bar removed. Now doing this on my Nelf warrior....I got inspire! incite! and pander! and also I got step down. I have a feeling there was a 4th one there to that wasn't showing up..Anyways when I first started it, I didn't get any right. Not until after a few clicks I started getting some credit. But this quest is still completable despite all the bugs.

A note for everyone like me that has the bar at the bottom not show all 3 of the buttons (In my case, I could not see pander at all):

There are two ways to deal with this. First, you can just hit the buttons like normal. The 1 key Inspires, the 2 key Incites, and the 3 key panders, even if you can't see the button.

Secondly, you can also just ignore audience members you can't do the action for. If you need to pander, just do nothing and eventually they will say something else. However, on that note, you can also simply choose the wrong response. You aren't penalized for a wrong response at all, all you need is 10 successful responses to complete the quest, wrong responses do not take away from that.

As soon as you complete the requirements of this quest (even before you turn it in), you have worked the Twilight Initiates into such a frenzy that they start attacking the Twilight Enforcers. The latter periodically yell:

Twilight Enforcer yells: Agghh! So many of them!
Twilight Enforcer yells: I knew the puny ones weren't to be trusted! Smash them!
Twilight Enforcer yells: You runts want to riot? I'll show you!

Once you accept Twilight Riot, Elementalist Ortell uses the cover to help Commander Jarod Shadowsong escape.

for anyone else finding this quest piss annoying, or just not understanding it, from what i've gathered; When they're sitting, use Inspire (1), when they're roaring/shouting use (2) , and when they're dancing use Pander (3).

So yes I finally understand this quest! It all depends on what the initiate says at the bottom of the screen. You will see them speak sometimes like, Twilight Initiate says: "Its like...the void just touched my mind!" which would then be button 3 And anything else along that sounds crazy. If a twilight initiate yawns, obviously they are bored and you would hit 1. If they say something like "crush!" or "Blood!" You would press 2.
