The five missions are 8 hours in duration and will require the use of your full complement of followers to ensure that you can counter all the abilities. So it's best to let these run overnight while you're asleep. The missions are level 102 and ilvl 760. It is possible to run more than one mission in parallel if you forego having a follower accompany you questing.

There is some fun lore here as they reference bosses from earlier Warcraft expansions that dropped rare and interesting horse mounts. The missions consist of:

Fallen Steeds: Saddle of the Frozen Crown (Icecrown Citadal)

Salanar the Horseman requires the saddle of Invincible, the former steed of Arthas Menethil. Since the defeat of Arthas, it has been lost beneath Icecrown.

Fallen Steeds: The Baron's Saddle (Stratholme)

Salanar the Horseman requires the saddle of Deathcharger, the former steed of Baron Rivendare. Following his defeat, the saddle was returned to Stratholme.

Fallen Steeds: Saddle of the Headless Horseman (Scarlet Monastery)

Salanar the Horseman requires the saddle used by the great Sir Thomas, the Headless Horseman. The saddle is buried in the cemetery of the Scarlet Monastery.

Fallen Steeds: Saddle of the Huntsman (Karazhan)

Salanar the Horseman requires the saddle of Midnight, the steed of Attumen the Huntsman. The saddle should be found somewhere within the ruins of Karazhan.

Fallen Steeds: Reins of Shadow (Realm of Shadows)

Salanar the Horseman requires the Shadow Reins used by an ancient Dark Rider. They can only be obtained by defeating one of the Dark Riders directly.

This showed up for me as taking 1 day 8 hours, so I'm hoping that it's doing 4 at once.

I have 4 / 5 complete on this quest, somehow, the 5th one does not want to appear. Any suggestions?

I have contacted a GM, but the waittime is currently 4 days.

I believe it might have something to do with failing one of the missions related to the quest and that may be the reason for the one mission not appearing again after failing it.
However, I'm not sure, was hoping someone would have another theory/answer on wowhead. :)

This quest shows up on my map; east of the Broken Shore off the map somewhere. I suspect it's a bug. ( shaman )

Why do we need 5 steeds when there are only 4 horsemen.

Note that the text for this quest is kind of misleading. You have to successfully complete 5 "Fallen Steed" missions.

The missions only take one hour each now.

If you haven't done the earlier Neltharion's Lair: Braid of the Underking, you won't be given the new one (Darkheart Thicket: The Nightmare Lash) mentioned by the quest given upon turn in until after you do the earlier dungeon. And lucky you, there will be 3 more dungeons later to run too. Might as well wait until you're 120 and go back and solo them at this point?

Description

Salanar the Horseman has arrived at Ebon Hold from the Realm of Shadows. He alone has the knowledge and power to conjure the steeds of the Four Horsemen.

Salanar has given us the first list of necessary components to create the steeds. I have organized a number of missions to obtain these items.

Use the mission table to assign your chosen champions to the task.
