Coordinates in Trisfal Glades are 50, 70 at the Undercity Sewer entrance. Once you fly near the entrance the scenario will start with Thassarian

I rescued Koltiras and went to archerus for a turn in but he's not there. Relogging did nothing. Going to have to abandon the quest.

If you have trouble turning this back in at the Order Hall, equip Thassarian as a combat ally, then unequip him. You should be able to finish it then.

If you happen to die, there is a long run-back from Brill. Luckily Thassarian was still alive when I retrieved my corpse, so I didn't have to repeat the whole scenario.

it says "Side: Alliance", but I just completed this as horde. it was bugged tho, cause i was able to fly in right to Koltira without Thassarian or any fight :D

Funfact #1: You can mind control the ghouls at the beginning.
Funfact #2: You can explode them as often as you like.
Funfact #3: The explosion damage is increased by Dark Transformation.
Funfact #4: You don't have to kill the elite at the end and can skip the fight by mind controlling it.

You can also mind control the abominations, but I don't know what they can do.

If you die like I did, please note that you have to run back through the entrance to the sewers where the scenario starts to be able to res. If you enter Undercity another way you will not be phased to your corpse.

Once you've started the scenario at Thassarian, you can easily just fly straight to Koltira and free him without attacking any guards or waiting for Thassarian, then take his death portal and complete the quest very quickly.

So apparently, Koltira's Death Gate despawns rather quickly. I made the mistake of setting him free, then running back to help Thassarian with the gold elite in the room that leads to his cage. Good news is, Kolitra respawns in the cage after a few minutes. Set him free again and he makes another Death Gate allowing you to leave seeing as you can't cast your own for some reason.

If you're doing this quest immediately following the Thoras Trollbane questline, you can cast Death Gate to return to Arathi Highlands and have a quick flight to the Undercity. Useful for Alliance players without portals to upper Eastern Kingdoms.

In case you're wondering like I did, if you pause too long somewhere (I was tweaking an addon), Thassarian WILL run off without you. The mobs shouldn't be too much trouble alone though, and you can avoid the elite mob in the lab area as long as you wait for him to path away. Thassarian was waiting for me near Koltira's cage, and you can turn in the quest just fine, and take Koltira's Death Gate back to Acherus. The only thing you'll be missing is some of Thas's dialogue along the way.

Rather disappointing of a quest. It's nice we did save Koltira, but it felt ...anti-climatic. I was expecting more dialogue between Thassarian and Koltira.

As alliance, take the portal to dalaran crater (new dalaran, middle teleport in center of dalaran inside the building, go all the way down and you can see portals there) and then just fly thru silverpine forest to the location, easiest way!

This whole thing seems a little unnecessary as a horde player. I know Thassarian and Koltira are good buds, but I could have either 1) gone in and broken him out myself, since no one would have thought anything of it until I'd gotten to his cell, or 2) talked to Sylvanas and requested his freedom for whatever quest she might then send me on.

Note to any Alliance DK flying into the sewers. You have to land just outside the main sewer entrance in order to see Thassarian spawn. If you just fly into the sewer and land at the spot nothing will happen. If this happens, just get off your mount and walk outside the sewer entrance until you are technically in Tirisfal instead of the sewer and it should start correctly.

Just adding that when you rescue Koltira and you're ready to add him as a Champion, he's located in the far back area behind your Scouting Map table. (From flight path, run straight back.)

This quest takes place in copy of the Undercity, so dont worry about horde players if you play Ally. Thassarian awaits you in the Undercity sewers, entrance is in Tirisfal Glades at 50.5 71.1 point.
Scenario has the following stages:

First, find Thassarian in the sewers and speak with him.
You have to escort Thassarian through the city killing guards on your way. Few minutes later you'll find a room, where Gurgoth patrols. Slay it.
Open Koltira's cage (no any keys needed) and let him join your team.

I had an issue during this quest where I was attacked by what seemed like the bats that spawn when you attack a fight master. Since this was a scripted event, and they were flagged as PVP, I couldn't attack them. I eventually got far enough from them that they despawned.

this quest is a little frustrating as an alliance DK - i made sure to stay close to thassarian but he ran off when i was fighting ghouls. i caught back up with him, only to have 2 bats pop down and he just ran off again. the bats were flagged for pvp, and i couldn't attack them, since i wasn't. i got surrounded, died, and couldn't get back to the sewer entrance. i had to take rez sickness and wait around.

After 8.0, when completing this quest you must be in present time period to see Thassarian, even though that means Lordaron/Undercity is in ruins.

Max level Undercity guard bats patrol the area and will unexpectedly swoop in to oneshot you, so uh, watch out.

After 8.0:
Tonight with a boosted character at 111, I did not talk to Zidormi to to go back in time but just went to the sewer entrance.
Once you are inside a bit, Thassarian shows up and the scenario starts, it is a copy.
The guards are 110 and easy to kill and I saw no bats.
I ran into one or two elites but they too were 110.

Not on a boosted char, but on a 110 that I had stopped XP on, and I had already done the BFA opening scenario "Battle for Lordaeron" a few days earlier. I was doing this quest on a much lower level Blood DK than my all my others (ilvl 187 on this one). The 1st time I died to the bats and got flagged for PvP while I was dead trying to find my body to pick up where I left off. No matter where I went where my body was supposed to be, I couldn't recover, and then I got ported outside of Lordaeron (just like if you try to go inside Lordaeron post-BFA scenario). 116g repair and 10 mins rez sickness.

I thought, ok...maybe I need to talk to Zidormi to have her change the area back to "Pre-Batte for Lordaeron"? I go back to where I met Thessarian in the sewer entrance, and while I was flagged for PvP again, but no matter, the scenario kicked off again anyway and off I went. I proceed, taking caution this time to stay just a hair behind Thessarian.

For the 2nd time, just as we reach the Canals in Undercity, 2 bats at level 120 come at me again. Thessarian even tries to help, but their level just far exceeds a 110. There just wasn't enough Death Strike or Vampiric Blood to save me and I died again, taking another rez sickness and a 113g repair bill.

I (obviously) enjoy playing Death Knight and the Legion Class Hall quest line, even though I already got the class mount on another DK. But the advice I would give others here is to take invisibility potions with you and *don't* do the "Battle for Lordaeron" scenario prior to doing this quest in order to complete it.
As for this DK....she's going to sit this one out until 120 with some decent gear. :) 229g in repairs just isn't worth going through the troubles of fighting through it.

Patch 8.1.0

Edit on March 14, 2018, Patch 8.1.5:
Decided to go back and try this quest one more time post-Lordaeron scenario experience. Got my ilevel up a bit and this time I brought Draenic Invisibility Potions with me. It worked like a charm without the level 120 Undercity Guard Bats attacking and killing me, or even flagging me for PvP, before you get to Koltira.

Wait until Thessarian reaches the 1st undead gollum thing and kill it (this is after you fight all the oozes and ghouls at the first part of the tunnel - stage 2 of the scenario, I think).
Let Thessarian run up ahead of you.
Pop the Draenic Invisibility potion.
Run out of the tunnel, to the right along side the wall, and to the next stairwell down off to the right (goes into Undercity's Apothecary).
Right at that stairwell....stand inside it...and cancel out the invisibility potion. You will see Thessarian fighting one undead gollem and another one will start attacking you. No worries...these two are regular 110's and belong to the scenario, not the 120 guards. Kill them both.
Keep following Thessarian to the final boss kill and then free Koltira.

Using those invisibility potions literally saved me HUNDREDS of gold in repairs! At 110, those 120 Undercity Guard Plague Bats hit like Mack Trucks and kill!

One forgotten teleport location that can be quite useful for Alliance players going to Lordaeron is the Isle of Quel'Danas. You get there via portal from Shattrath City (which you can access via the Stormwind portal room). From there, a short walk north talks you to the flight master, who can get you into Lordaeron via a direct connection to the Light's Hope Chapel flight point (and a direct flight to Ironforge that is much shorter than you'd expect thanks to a loading screen cutting out most of the distance). You can then fly to your destination from Light's Hope Chapel or Ironforge, or have the flight master take you closer to your destination (via Light's Hope Chapel).

NOTE: The Isle of Quel'Danas flight master will NEVER route you through Ironforge - all flights are routed through Light's Hope Chapel (including to points south of Ironforge). The only exceptions are flights ending at the Ironforge and Kharanos flight points. So while going through Ironforge might well be quicker, you can't go from Quel'Danas to the Wetlands or Arathi VIA Ironforge without talking to two different flight masters (you'd get routed via Light's Hope, as silly as that might sound).

Other useful teleports include a mage's "Ancient Teleport/Portal: Dalaran" (to the crater), a Dark Iron Dwarf's mole machine teleport to Aerie Peak, and the portal from Booty Bay to Andorhal that War-Mage Erallier will offer you if you have the quest "The Battle For Andorhal" in your quest log. Archaeologists can also use the Last Relic of Argus, but that is obviously extremely RNG-dependent.

This quest is annoying - I got attacked by a patrolling bat - got ghost over 1400 yards away - ran all the way back to my corpse point to not be able to res at all - had to go back to spirit healer - res there - abandon quest - use deathgate to go back and collect the quest again and start all over again - what a waste of my time and effort

Suggestion for players who came here after dying to first bat. I did this with my 105 DK, I also got surprised by 120 bat that killed me instantly, BUT, I died twice. The key is to die near the quest objective so that each time you respawn, you be in the room where bats can't reach you. Use defensive before it kills you.

Imagine having just died to the damn bats, running all the way back from Brill only to realize that you've entered through the wrong entrance, run again from brill, finally rez. Dudeman has already died so you mount up to go to the entrance, only to be killed by the damn bats again. I hate this quest so damn much

If you are 120 Horde and doing this, then take the portal to Silvermoon City (as Undercity is destroyed) and then fly to the Bulwark, on the map find the guy who will take you back to the old UC and then head over and meet Thassarian on the map.

I just finished this quest and had no bat encounters, I was looking for them after reading they are 120 and killing people. I fought a few NCPs, Gurgoth(Elite), found and opened the cage door to rescue Koltira and took the Death Gate back to Ebon Hold. Blizz must've removed the 120 level bats.

I'm going back and cleaning up Class Hall campaigns with toons at 120. This one was a little problematic. If you're 120 you'll first need to have Zidormi swap timelines (she's to the NE of Undercity and will show as a speech bubble on your world map). Then find Thassarian in a cave to the NW of Undercity. If he's not showing up as a quest objective you're probably set to the wrong timeline.

Some of the comments said once you started Thassarian's instanced encounter you could just go to Koltira. This was not true for me. The area Koltira is held in had an invisible wall when I tried to go there without Thassarian so I ended up backtracking and doing the escort part of the quest.

It is very easy at 120 as all the NPCs stayed at 110 (except the bats, but you really don't need to go into the area where the bats patrol). The bats will not kill you if you're 120 but they will keep you in combat and you can't attack them to kill them if you have pvp off.

tl;dr - try the quest as stated, and if you aggro the bat, accept that you'll die and keep moving toward the objective. Once dead, run back to the tunnel entrance, proceed back down to your corpse, ignore the quest state and just revive and continue on to Koltira.

Just did this with an Alliance character in the Shadowlands pre-patch and thought I'd share my notes since I assume other people will be doing this what with Chromie time and all:

The guard bat is still there and will still aggro from far away and kill you very quickly
As Alliance at least, there's a very far run from northeast of Brill when are killed
If you take the regular Undercity lifts, you will not be able to resurrect - you need to enter through the sewer tunnel (where you first meet Thassarian); fortunately, you don't have to take the lifts back up and go around, you can just go up through the tunnel back to Tirasfal and then turn back around
Unfortunately, whichever direction you go, the quest state resets back to stage one (something like "talk to Thassarian at the tunnel entrance"); the first time I died, once I resurrected I walked back up the tunnel to talk to him again, went back down, and was promptly killed by a bat.
The second time, before giving up and going to buy invisibility potions, I ignored the quest state and resurrected a bit past wher I had died and went straight down to Koltira (the same-level elite in the alchemy lab can be avoided if you wait for it to wander to the right); thankfully, even without Thassarian around I was able to open the cage, talk to him, and complete the objective.

p.s. Please fix the stupid bat Blizzard!

Talk to Zidormi if you can't see quest marker near undercity tunnels. This quest happens in Legion time not BFA.

I was flying all over the place as a level 50 in 9.0.1 and couldn't find Thassarian, even though I was in the correct time line.

It turns out that you have to approach the cave from the otuside, and you must be on the ground (not flying.) Once I ran up to the cave on the ground rather than flying into the entrance of the cave, the event triggered correctly.

just out of curiosity, would an Invisibility Potion help with the damn bats patrolling around the various quarters of the Undercity, or are they able to detect stealth/invisibility as well? cause i'm thinking of just nixing the DK class hall storyline entirely.

yeah, it means never getting their transmogs or the class hall mount, but if it means not dealing with the malarkey that is known as the "Lvl ? Elite Forsaken/Undercity Bat" guards that patrol around the perimeter, then i'm willing to make that sacrifice.

edit: and while i realize this quest is 4 years old and likely isn't acknowledged by Blizzard, let alone half the player base, i'm not expecting an answer to my question, but i'd thought i'd give it a try regardless. ._.

Just did this on the shadowlands pre-patch on 11/17. I did not change my timeline and went straight to the side of the Undercity with the giant tunnel and completed it pretty quickly as a level 50. Had no problems with bats patrolling, took a few minutes to complete and turn in.

Just tried this after Shadowlands and there are guards inside now that you have to fight your way through. If you happen to die and try to go back to your corpse and start from there, it won't let you. Atleast for me, went through tunnel and inside to recover corpse, and it reset. I had to start all over again back at the "Talk to.. " part at the tunnel opening. Goodluck

I'm not sure what everyone's talking about with the bats and guards. It essentially rolled a scenario for me. I didn't speak to Zidormi (i.e. stayed in present timeline). Just dismounted, walked up to the area, paused for a moment, and the scenario started. Killed several sets of ghouls and slimes, then some abomination guards (nothing over my level). Final "boss" was an elite just outside the room Koltira is held. Opened Koltira's cage, he popped a death gate, and we warped out of there. So it appears it may have been fixed? /shrug

Just done at lvl 37. Went to the sewer entrance, talked to the guy, went in died to bats.

Ressed, flew back, talk to him again, mount up, and keep flying all the way to the cage, open it and PROFIT

One addition note from the below:

There seems to be a bug with how Thessarian spawns at the entrance to the sewer. If you fly in like I did, he may despawn as the game moves you OUT of the instance. Trying to land and walk up to him caused him to despawn as soon as I got close enough to talk to him.

Instead, stop a short ways away from the entrance, walk up until you hear the Instance start sound, stop and give Thessarian 5-10secs to spawn, then walk around to one of his sides. Walking straight up to him seems to cause him to despawn each time I tried. It might be something with the movement powers of my DK and moving too quickly for the instance to trigger...who knows, but this worked for me.

This quest needs a LOT of work.

1. Like others have said, take Thassarian's gate back to Ebon Hold after the previous quest and then use your gate to go back to Arathi Highlands.
2. Head over to Zidormi on your way to the sewers and "see it as it was in the past"
3. Fly to the sewers and talk to Thassarian at the entrace, if he's not there or he despawns, back out and try again. You should see the Scenario Stage pop up, if it doesn't, leave and repeat.

NOTE: the quest location on the mini-map is NOT the entrance to the sewer, but the underground location of Koltira. Fly further to the west to get to the cave entrace (you'll see the large boulders around the entrance as well as a partially ruined tower nearby.

4. Enter the Sewers once you've spoke to Thessarian. Run down the small cavern and then mount up once you see the two undercity openenings and fly to the left sewer. Fly over the mobs and then head SW towards Koltira's location.

NOTE: Most of the mobs are trash and are be easily soloable for a Lvl50+; however...

5. AVOID THE FRIGGEN BAT! (whatever dev thought this was a fun idea needs to be flayed and then given 100000 lines of COBOL to decompile).
(It flys around a short path, has a HUGE aggro range, and can't be killed. Does like 25% damage per hit to a L55 char with optimal gear. Avoid it like the PlagueQueen!)
6. Head to a side passage and go down, there'll be a giant monstrosity roaming around. Remove the obstacle and continue into the prison cell with Koltira.
7. Open Koltira's cage and then take the gate back to Ebon Hold. DONE!

I just did this today (6/26/21) in patch 9.0.5. Blizz may have removed the overleveled bat guard. My DK was level 33 and I exclusively ran across level 32 guards (and slimes) which were pushovers with Thassarian's help. I even looked around as I went to try to locate any overleveled guards and did not spot anything. Should be safe for all players now! If you're Alliance, just make sure to give Undercity a wide berth as you're heading over to Thassarian at the sewer entrance.

Unsure when Blizz FINALLY got around to this quest but it seems like this has now been fixed, I haven't encountered any max leveled guards/patrolling bats during the phased scenario on my level 52 DK.

Edit: Sometimes the bat comes, sometimes it doesn't. Some people got lucky, no need for a petty downvote.

Patrolling bat has NOT been removed as of 2/6/22. I'm also trying to do the rogue mount quest at lvl 50 right now too, so I'm getting a bit tired of making the corpse run back to UC lol

Patrolling UC bat guard is still there as of patch 9.2, in May 2022. It will kill you at level 50. Don't bother running back to your corpse because your corpse won't be there. Just res yourself at spirit healer > abandon quest > death gate to ebon hold > pick quest > death gate back to tirisfal > restart the scenario > pray that bat is absent this time. Res sickness will not hold you back from completing the scenario at level 50.

In patch 9.2.5 if you do not see Zidormi, you will need to do the "Eyes of the wolf" quest. Becuase this quest takes place in the old Trisfal Glades.

47.81, 34.99 is where you start stage 1. If you're not in the past timeline, go talk to Zidormi at 69.43, 62.80. If she isn't there, you'll have to do the "Eyes of the Wolf" (alliance) questline, or "Call to Lordaeron" (horde).

I needed to do this pre-Dragonflight for a Legion class mount quest I'm on. Horde will need to do Call to Lordaeron to get back to Tirisfal Glades. Speak to Calia Menethil in Oribos to start the quest, then talk to the undead dude right by her to be transported directly there.

Once you're there, talk to Zidormi at /way 69.53 62.80, and THEN head to /way 42.81 35.02, for the sewer tunnel.

As of patch 10.0.5, the best way to do this is to spec for the Control Undead talent, fly in as soon as the scenario starts, go to where Kotiras is marked on the map, mind control the elite guard, and then open the door. Don't bother fighting through the scenario. The elite bats patrolling UC will still one-shot you. Just stay flying and hug the ceiling.

Some suggestions to make this quest a bit more easy (at least in curren 10.0.5). I have done it with lvl 33 DK under Chromie time.

1. You don't need to follow Thassarian on foot. If you are 30+, it may be safer to move from meeting point to outer Undercity circle by flying mount. Thassarian is able to defeat all foes along the road on his own, without your help.
2. The most difficult part is the segment of outer circle which is guarded by two Forsaken Bat. The interval between them may be not equal, like 20 and 30 sec. You may want to find out the longest. Prepare the macro for a key or action bar:

/target Forsaken Bat

Use it periodically staying near the last turn to the circle, where the small segment of circle is still visible, it's a safe area. Note the time from disappearance of mark of current bat on minimap and arriving another one, so you will know the bat with the longest pause, say, 30 sec. Then target this bat, wait until it begins to move away and quickly follow by the outer circle, keeping the safe distance (!), to next right turn. Here you will be greeted by a couple of normal guards. Run to the green water area before wooden path, dismount and defeat them. This point is also safe from the bats.
3. At this time, Thassarian will be waiting for you near the cage with Koltira and will not be able to help with the elite guard. As in a post before, I suggest to invest 3 points in Control Undead ability, if you don't have it normally. Take control on this guard from the safe distance, then run to Thassarian and open the cage. It should not be a problem.
4. When Koltira creates the Death Gate portal, you may try to use it ASAP. However, the elite guard will become instantly uncontrolled and turn foe. You still can hope that travel will happen quickly enough, but more safely is first to send the guard (Move To on his control bar) to previous room and only then click the portal.

Bats are still very much a thing as of Dragonflight. They are patrolling so you could get lucky. You do not have to abandon if you die.

If you die, do the following:

Respawn at the Graveyard.
Fly back to the start of the Scenario (The Undercity Sewers Cave).
Stay in the area or go in and out of the cave and the instance will eventually pop up.
Fly or Run on mount all the way to the cell.

You should be able to open the cell before anything can catch up. I was able to avoid anything near the cell while running.

If you're like me and are doing the old legion DK quests during dragonflight (AS ALLIANCE), this quest might give you a bit of an issue. If you do not have Zidormi's chat bubble on your map, you won't be able to change it to the correct phase, and the sewers will be blocked off. Quick way to fix this -

1. Turn on "Trivial Quests" in your mini-map tracking. In Stormwind, check to see if you have Tides of War quest giver next to the Hero Board.
2. If yes, pick up the Tides of War Quest and go to the castle and turn it in. Meet Jaina at the Harbor.
3. If you've completed the scenario on another character, skip and go straight to Boralus. If you've never done it, do it.
4. Once in Boralus, you should be done. Check to see if Zidormi is present on your map of Tirisfal Glades.
5. Change the timeline to the past

After this you should be good to go and you'll be able to complete this quest.

Hi all, I am facing an issue as of today. (TWW prepatch) I made an undead dk (not sure if it matters) I did the Call to lordaeron quest from Calia and when I talk to zidormi about taking me to the past then the timeline is when Undercity was a regular city. No gas no sewers no thassarian on the map.

I opened a ticket but the response was that they do not provide game hints.
