These Frozen Runes (along with the plate/mail/leather/cloth scraps) are not used in WotLK expansion. You can vendor them for 2g each if you still have any left over from the old level 60 version of Naxxramas.

Alternatives that are better:
Greater Fire Protection Potion (recipe from BRD)
Major Fire Protection Potion (recipe from Mechanar)
Mighty Fire Protection Potion (recipe from Icecrown)

Edit: Regarding this comment about vendoring them, if they have gained usefulness in 2013 or 2014, this is obviously not reflected in my original comment made in 2008.

This item is no longer in the game. They were attained from inside level 60 Naxxramas which no longer exists.

They were used for profession craft able frost resistance gear as mentioned above. They were also used in the quest https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=22707 for an epic frost resistance ring. Also no longer attainable.

Could be called a "collector" item. Still have quite a few stockpiled on my banks.

One of many now unobtainable items from poor lvl 60 Naxx. I don't really like it when Blizzard fully removes an item from the game, seems like such a waste. Here's to you, stupid frost resist gear I needed for jerk-face Sapphiron @ 60.

Still got 6 of these. Don't know what to do with them.

These spawn like little chests on the walls of the new instance Naxxramas, and SHOULD be used only as mats for the FrR crafting items.

I went Mind Visioning through Naxx today and found out the frozen rune's spawn (mostly?) in the same room as bosses. On the walls ofc.

These things only spawn on the walls around bosses in Naxx. There was also a drop of some sort from the trash mobs that appears to be required to even extract these from the walls.

As someone else stated, these are specifically for crafted Frost Resistance items. Using them for anything else would be simply ignorant.

Welcome to the fiery/lava core class but in Naxx, lol.

One can definitely expect to not see these on the AH for quite some time as high end guilds are building up their stocks of these things and getting their players ramped up for the one encounter that will require Frost Resistance.

It doesn't really matter if they show up in the AH anyway, if you're not in a guild that is progressing through Naxx, odds are, you won't have the tailoring, blacksmithing or leatherworking patterns to make any of the items that require these and if you were to actually use one of these items for the fire protection, you're a blithering idiot that should immediately eBaY your account for the $3 it's worth :P.

These are not BoP and can't be equipped so not BoE...kinda like pots and other expendables...

Most importantely, these are not to be used for fire protection in MC or Onyx...if you say that, then u need to log on and trey getting your attunements to MC and Onyx done...
Only high end guilds can aquire these and the melee has 200+ Fire resst already, hence extra fire protection is just a waste...if you are in a high end guild, then u know the value of these, and if not..well why even bother? you probebly won't even see one thes...

Is the fastest way to Exhaulted farming around the cauldrons in WPL? Or running newbs through UD and Scholo? I don't really see geared people on my server running any WPL/EPL instances...

you wouldnt vendor these bro, you wouldnt even sell them, seeing as how most of your raid if not all of it needs to have an insanely high amount of FRR for saph in Naxx, you need these to make the FRR pieces, they are too valuable to sell, let alone vendor.

you know the max resist cap is at 315 right? not to mention you missed frostguard on the shoulders, woulda freed up a slot to pwn frost mages with, by adding DMG...

/sigh, i dont wear my FR/SR (there's shadow resist gear? lol) when i fight a lock, kinda useless to gear yourself to kill one spec of one class

Since nobody actually mentions what you're all looking for: You need "Word of Thawing" to collect the runes. It drops from the trash in Naxx.

if you use resistance items in pvp you are sacrificing other stats and will get annihilated by anything besides the class you spec out against. just a thought.

I had found one on wall at the west side of Anub's room.

Edit: There's another on the north west wall of Instructor Razuvious' circular arena.

there runes can be found inside naxxramas, our raid group saw one against the wall in anub'rekhan room but you need a word of thawing to get it of the wall

Heres how you get them:

Some of the random mobs in Naxx drops "Scrolls of Thawing" which contains 1 charge each. You get a scroll, use it one of the frozen runes on the wall and *poof* you get some Frozen Runes you can use in your epix recipes learned from the captured crafters in Naxx. =)

picked the one up from Raz during the attempts we were doing on him, it respawned the next day, the one we got gave 5. Killed him today and rune was there again. Don't know the respawn rate.

The following quests can be picked up from 工匠威尔海姆 at the Light's Hope Chapel in the 东瘟疫之地 by completing 奥玛里恩的手册 which you get from 大工匠奥玛里恩.
He's trapped in a cage in the first room of trash in the Deathknight Wing inside 纳克萨玛斯.
With a skill of 300 and high enough reputation, you will be able to choose from a total of 13 different patterns depending on your professions: 裁缝 (4), 制皮 (6) or 锻造 (3).

Patterns / Plans doesn't exists, all of them are taught by 大工匠奥玛里恩 in 纳克萨玛斯

These last for an hour and put healthstones on a 3min cd. You can use them for any fire res fight in TBC content and prepop them just for more mitigation if needed. My guild had a lot leftover from Naxx in Vanilla and am now finding many other uses for these in TBC that no one have mentioned before. Basically works the same way the old greater fire protection pots worked except they dont put your potions on CD.
