A helpful tip. When questing in Stranglethorn Vale don't forget to hit this hot spot. Cold Eyed Basilisks (lvl 39-40) have a 3-5% rate to drop a green item called Cold Basilisk Eye. When you do you can auction this off to lower levels for about an average of 5-7g. Just grind up the basilisks (they can be found down the road behind the arena). I grinded for about 2 hours and got about 24, thats over 100G!

Stranglethorn Vale is home to the raiding instance Zul'Gurub. Otherwise known as ZG, it offers 20 players the chance to get pre-mc/bwl/naxx gear. Stranglethorn is also quite popular for the arena it holds.
It is a good place to level, but stay on guard! You will come across many players of the opposite faction in Stranglethorn.

Every 3 hours a chest appears in the Gurubashi Arena.
It can contain nice, blue quality level 50 bracers for each armor type and a bunch of greens that can be used or sold for a few gold on the side. But be careful, Once you enter the arena you can be killed by any other player who is also inside.

Stranglethorn Vale is a great place to level between level 32-43.
There are a great number of quests for both factions, alliance only quests from the rebel camp, farthest northern part of stranglethorn (follow the road). Horde only quests from Grom'gol encampment (central western area, right by the shore).
There is also a bunch of great quests located in the neutral town of Booty Bay.
A word of warning about stranglethorn for PVP servers. This is also the zone that connects to the raid dungeon, Zul'Gurub so it is frequented by level 60s, as well due to the large amounts of quests it can be a pvp hot box at any point in time.
As well should you die in the more central parts of Stranglethorn prepare yourself for a long corpse run as there are only two graveyards within the zone. One up north by Nessingway's Camp, and one at the entrance to booty bay.
Don't let those discourage you as this zone is worth all the danger, and will allow you to flow through the 30's and early 40's with ease.
Good luck!

Gurubashi Arena: Do not be the first person to try and open the chest. In most cases people are waiting close by to enter the arena and try for the chest... So your best chance at getting it all for yourself is to wait for the first few people to fight for it then as they kill each other finish them off yourself.. if you are a rogue the second best way is to wait for them all to fight eachother and when the last guy thinks he has the chest all to himself sneak up from behind him and take him out as fast as you can.. the others will be well on their way back by that time so kill him/her as quickly as possible. Then go for the chest as fast as you can. Goodluck

A warning to mid-level players questing here on a PvP server- this place is filled with activity from high levels of all kinds. You will probably get ganked a few times before you're done questing here.

This is a controversial zone: It's probably the best and only one I go at around lvl 32+ until 40. Has a lot of easy quests, some of those tell you to kill the same mob, for two different quests! But on the other hand, you will learn what PvP is, because this zone is full of PvP battles. Learn to defend youself or you may hate the game xD
Oh, and herbalists beware: there are many plants here, so you'll love this zone

This zone can be nightmarish on a PvP server, especially at peak hours of the day. It is not uncommon to see a high level player of either faction camping at Nessingwary's with the sole intent of killing you. Just hope that high level player is on your faction! On a PvE server, this zone is a refreshing and relaxing way to get to 40+. On a PvP server, it is an adventurous and challenging zone, and I recommend starting it a little higher than normal. I wouldn't come here until at least 35.

I haven’t visited the whole area yet but I think Stranglethorn Vale is a beautiful lvl 30-45 area. There are lots of people who want to go to Booty Bay to buy “The Bass and You” or a parrot and some others want to access to the lower lvl Horde zones in Kalimdor. But below lvl 30, you have a low chance of survival(especially the Alliance). Therefore I have listed the routes I know here:
Alliance:
-(The usual route) Follow the path from Duskwood to Stranglethorn Vale or go to the east of Westfall and travel(=swim) south along the river. When in Stranglethorn Vale, just follow the road to Booty Bay. (lvl 30-45+)
-For lvls 10-20 there’s an alternate route: go to Westfall, go to the west into the sea and swim to the south along the coast. Don’t swim/dive to far into the ocean but don’t get to close to the shore to avoid Murlocs. When you see a small island with a huge goblin on it, swim east.
I did this with my lvl 13 Dwarf =P
Horde:
-At lvl 10-25+; Trolls, Orcs and Tauren can access the Barrens where Ratchet lies. Travel there and take the boat to Booty Bay. ( Undeads can take the Zeppelin to Orgrimmar and then follow the same route)
-Tauren, Trolls and Orcs can go to the Orgrimmar Zeppelin and fly to Grom’Gols base camp, Undeads can use the Zeppelin at the Undercity. When you arrive at the camp, you can: 1) go west to the sea and swim south along the coast (lvl 1-10, and 10-25 for Tauren ); 2) follow the road through Stranglethorn Vale until you reach Booty Bay. (lvl 30-45+)
I hope this helped a lot =)

There is a serious problem in the Blackwing Lair server. The Horde overwelm the Alliance. I'm a lvl 32 NE Hunter and I never see any horde below lvl 40 without at least 2 lvl 70 escorts. This isn't just me complaining this is a serious issue. And this is just one of the areas that has this problem way too often. Is there anyone here that rolls on Blackwing Lair?

Herbalists, after visiting this zone you'll never want for Fadeleaf or Goldthorn again. Lot's of quests on Horde side, with a particularly long chain kicked off by Hunt for Yenniku (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=581
). Bring a buddy: the chain is so long, you may have trouble finding people who are on the same quest as you.
Keep an eye out for the common drops from the "Green Hills of Stranglethorn" report papers. They're needed for (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=338
), and can sell for 10-15s at the AH. I've even sold a couple for 25s.

The Maiden's Fancy, the boat that runs between Booty Bay and Ratchet, takes
4 minutes 45 seconds
to make a full round trip. It stops for exactly
1 minute
at each port, and from the time it leaves takes about
1 minute 22 seconds
to reach the other port.
This means if you just miss the ship as it leaves and want to get on, you'll have to wait
3 minutes 45 seconds
to get on (and another minute for it to get going). If you run up to the dock and you don't see the ship, you'll have to wait an average of
1 minute 30 seconds
.
I believe but have not confirmed that the other ships us the same schedule.

Now we can finally get from the northern end of the zone to Booty Bay without having to pass by the horde encampment all the time.

This area is great for 30-40 i even stayed here toll 47 lvling my char, but be on guard if your on a pvp server this place is filled with alliance/horde and some are 70s bored and just looking to gank.nobody does ZG anymore really but the arenea ppl get the chest for the twinks. there are also some players of the other faction up in nessywarys camp just there to kill players. i have horde and alliance but it was easier to level here as horde because there were more quests for horde at gromgol+bootybay alliance has rebel camp but that dosent give to much quest.Booty bay is a neutral town the 67 guards are no joke they hit HARD but some 70s sit there camp then jump in the water and sometimes get away from the guards this is a real pain because they keep ganking and ganking also try to stay away from stv on sunday cuz thats when most of the 70s come out for the fishing tournament for the twink hat.GL and happy leveling i hope this helped alot

This has got to be one of the worst places in the game - so much ganking ! But otherwise, its a great place to level in because there are so many quests and some you can do at the same time so you get lots of xp in a small amount of time. Atleast you can't attack eachother in BB (Booty Bay) - well you can, but you get killed by the guards so probably not worth it unless you are like level 70 and prepared to take the guards on. It would be mayhem if you could! I also agree with Cure - you need to pay the basilisks a visit - they are around the back of the arena just follow the path past the arena and you should find them if I remember correctly. If you're thinking of going to Gurubashi Arena I think you should only go if you think you really can get the chest, or if you have a level 70 with you or maybe a few if you wanted. I have usually experienced level 70's guarding the chest for twinks. Finally, if you are in Booty Bay on a Sunday and you have a decent fishing skill it may be worth participating in the fishing challenge.Warning - lots of level 70's will probably be participating too so keep your eyes peeled for gankers! If you win the competition, you get the lucky fishing hat and other things (Fishing Hat --->
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=19972
) the comments on that should give you more details on that. Just one note on the subject of the fishing competiton: There aren't seperate one's for horde and alliance, there is just one cup for both factions to fight for (though each time I've been on Horde have won).I'm running out of things to mention now, so good luck questing or grinding or whatever your doing, and happy gaming!

The horde have a slight advantage here, having a horde town in the zone with a zepplin to Undercity.
Alliance will have to go through Ratchet and catch a boat, or walk from Duskwood or Westfall. Alliance received a flight path at the top of STV, when entering from Duskwood called Rebel Camp. This should help Alliance travel the zone a little easier.
Stranglethorn Vale was also a map in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.
If you are on a PvP server, I would recommend not leveling here, or playing mainly during offpeak hours for your server. If you must play during a busy time, be sure to keep alert and avoid traveling in the middle of the road if you don't want to get ganked by high-levels.
Also, be wary of 70s in Booty Bay, quite often they will camp outside the entrance, or follow you around until you get somewhere where they can 1shot you and escape.
If you are being followed by a Rogue, try to lose them. From experience, they seem to love stalking you then killing you then vanishing.
Furthermore, stay hidden on the boat if traveling to ratchet. If someone kills you on the boat, don't release your spirit. Once you get to the spot where you switch continents, you will automatically resurrect.

The greatest (and the most annoying) ganking zone in the whole Game. Heres some tips and such.
- At lvl 30, you can come and do the first Mastery quests at nessingvarys. I would not suggest doing anything else, as the monsters are usually 34-35+
-Take every single quest you can possibly find! They are all easy, and with some help from our good friend Wowhead, they can be completed fast
- You CAN complete the quests like this: Do one quest, turn it in, do another quest, turn it in and so on, but heres the one i like the most (cause you get a gigantic exp rush at the end :D). As you have your quest log full of quest, write the one on the top to Wowhead. Go complete it. After that, write the name of the quest below it to wowhead (for tips and such). Go complete it. Dont turn the quests in yet. When you are done with all of your quests, go turn them in. Like this you save time and its fun to see your exp bar jump from the middle to the next level ;D
Have fun, and try to avoid the gankers (Most of the time, if you dont harm them, they dont harm you)

This is a good area for lvl to 40's, but i have a question for all you 70 horde who gank lvl 30's, why? I mean, do you feel pleasure in making ppl feel bad and really sad? Do you feel good about killing ppl for no honor or any purpose whatso ever? do you feel good about ppl not going to this great area? horde, rank this comment down if you want, but horde should NEVER gank young lvls for fun, it's just sick and wrong. i was on a pvp server once, so i know how this feels. It feels sad and cruel. i hope you horde won't EVER gank again. and once again, rank this comment down if you want, i don't care.

If you are a low level seeking to get to Booty Bay quick, the best thing to do is go about half way through Stranglethorn Vale (going to Booty Bay), a little past the Horde base camp, and then kill yourself, if you've went far enough, it should pop you out right beside the Booty Bay entrance, then just resurrect at the spirit healer. This should save you the walking time of Half of Stranglethorn Vale.

Stranglethorn Vale is also known as STV , a lvl 30 - 46 Contested Area . ( means Horde and Alliance can Quest there )
It is the very Southern Zone of the Eastern Kingdoms ( The main Alliance map )
Stranglethorn Vale is south of Duskwood , to get through on the right of the ogre mound in Duskwood and walk down the path on the right.
Or , from Westfall , you can swim through the land on the west of the map and will end up in STV also.
This place is a jungle and in my opinion it is the most beautiful and elegant place in the game.
Be Careful , as lots of level 70 people go there so do not put pvp on unless needed.
Gurubashi Arena is there which there is

Stranglethorn Vale is a HUGE map with lots of places to explore. It takes forever to explore the whole place as there is around 11 ruins and other seperate places. It takes 15mins to walk from one side to the other.
There is 242 Quests , 55 item Quest Rewards , 54 Objects , 329 Non-Player-Characters ( NPCs) , 18 fish and things to fish and also the Boat in Booty Bay ( BB ) leads to Ratchet ( a Contested place in Kalimador , the horde place )
Thanks for reading guys and girls.

If you're on a PvP server this place can often be seen as a warzone. Because of the large number of quests that send opposing factions to similar locations as well as neutral quests running into an unfriendly is a very frequent occurence. That being said this area boasts an incredible cache of quests many of which will require farming the same areas for different mobs making this a very good leveling spot. During weekends and the early night hours its not infrequent for all out wars to break out giving clear meaning to the term jungle madness. If you're on a PvP server and between level 35-45 don't miss this area to level. Even if you hate PvP you'll likely be left with stories you'll be talking about for a while, at least as good as an online game can give you.

I've found that the worst spot for ganking (on my server at least) is the Nesingwary Camp. Why do gankers/campers love it? Probably because the graveyard is so close. You don't have to wait long for your victims to make the corpse-run and then try to get away.
Even though this is one of the best places to quest for the level range, I avoid it almost entirely on my PvP server. I've found that very little challenging PvP happens; it's mostly constant griefing from bored level 60-80 players.

Personally, my favourite zone in the whole of the World of Warcraft. Great loot, challenging opponents, fun quests and it's absolutely huge! Every class and race has a challenge, whether it's a hunter trying to tame the rare's or simply a warlock taking on the immense beasts that stalk the grounds. When the third expansion comes out and people will fly over this great feat of landscape and it will take their breath away.

This is my personal experience. When I came to SV, I was lv37. (Maybe lv36) My level is too high for "welcome to the jungle" quest, so there is no exclaimation mark on the guy. Welcome quest is what someone calls a pointer quest that leads to a chain of quests. In this case, multiple chains of quests. So I wasted almost 2 days in SV wondering why quest lv increases significantly between rebel camp and booty bay.
So don't make the same mistake! If your lv is 37 or higher, manually go talk to "Barnil Stonepot" in the expedition camp to start the "welcome to the jungle" quest. This pointer quest leads to three mystery quests and one final big tiger showdown.
Same rules go to croc chain of quest. The first part of croc is lv30 so a lot of high 30 players will not get it. But the last part of croc is a lv38 elite. So ... croc quest chain starts in booty bay though.
The span of lv requirement is certainly one thing im not fond of SV zone. Raptor mystery begins with lv30-31 and goes all the way to lv43 elite. And the travel distance in SV is just brutal without a mount. I'm an alliance, I think horde maybe better off since they have an extra flight point up north in SV.
To sum things up, be prepared to travel a lot when questing in SV.

This is the instance. Like no other. This is the one.
Doing the quests and grinding just a bit it is possible to obtain a dozen levels witout ever leaving.
Best entered in your low 30's, pal up with say one other and do the upper STV quests. Once you pass your mid 30's and start to obtain 37-38 lvl, make the run for booty-bay, again pal up with maybe 2 now. and complete the BB quests. As you go up in level, more quests in booty bay will become available. With some grinding, like I said, you can go from level 32 to level 44 all in the Vale.
The only sad part is there is NO alliance griffen landing in STV. Only a shared landing in Booty Bay, the next closest griffen roost is in DUSKWOOD! This makes for some LONG runs until you have purchased a mount.

I avoid this place like the plague. After running my first two chars through there, I've decided that I'd rather blow some time doing the crappy quests in Desolace and grinding in Arathi instead of watch every geared out Warlord horde come camp lowbies.
Seemed like every twenty minutes I'd have to go get my mage to blow the *!@# out of another horde at the Expedition camp. This place left me hating horde players so much, that I now kill pretty much every horde I run into, just in the hope that some of them are the alts of the jackasses that butcher 30s all day long there. And I used to be so nice to other players.

For those of you lucky folks who have coords, the Horde FP is at 27.77
For those lucky folks who don't have coords: travel to the top level of the tavern where there is a balcony with a Tauren and a Goblin. Facing the rest of the Bay, turn around and there should be a little walkway to the right. This walkway will lead you to the Flight Path platform.
Enjoy!

FYI, in 2.3, Alliance finally have a FP to the Rebel Camp. For those who don't know, its right before you enter STV.

The Alliance FP in STV is at the road in north, same road that takes to Duskwood. It took alot of time for me to get there, because i didnt follow the road, so FOLLOW THE NORTHERN ROAD TO DUSKWOOD (its at right if ur coming from Duskwood).

For those alliance players who are trying to get the achievement of "discovering" all of STV, you can't "discover" the island (even if you walk over every square inch, as I sadly learned) until you do a short two-quest series from KRAZEK called THE HAUNTED ISLE. He is in a room above the innkeeper.

STV is perfectly safe for a level 30 ALLIANCE to quest. Ignore the quests for Kurzen Camp until about level 33. Go to the expedition and do the beasts quests. After grinding to complete those...you should be able to go do Kurzen quests. Unless your planning on later on slaughtering BB for the rep with the bloodsail, do those quests around 33-35.
STV is perfectly safe for a level 30 HORDE to quest. Horde should also go around 30 to do expediton quests. After grinding to finsh those, go to Grom' Gol around 33-35 and start busting out those quests.Unless your planning on later on slaughtering BB for the rep with the bloodsail, do those quests around 33-35.
NOTE- Ignore taming Bhag' Thera, Sin Dall, or the end of chain raptor {I don't know name}. Pick a beast to use until level 43 and then go tame Bangalash
NOTE- Watch for Venture goblins in mountains and lake. Also watch for shadowmaw panthers. Watch sides of the roads for random beasts who attack
TAMING BANGALASH: Kill all beasts around and set down the trap that freezes him in place move back-tame. Enjoy your uber pet. { I recommend using him until you find something better OR reach level 60 BM hunter and tame exotic pet )
Hope this helps all you who need it.
Happy hunting

Ok, so I thought I explored all of STV, but it just turns out I didn't. No one will tell me where the Ruins of Aboraz is. I can't find any unexplored area. I went over all the ruin pictures, but they all said their names. I didn't have my add-ons on. Where is the Ruins? Coords are alright (I just had all my add-ons off).

Lvl 28 Dranei Warrior (alliance obvy) - this is my alt. I am almost thru with Duskwood quests. I can go to Hillsbrad/Arathi/Alterac (which I did with my main - a Hunter) or...I can lvl in STV. Hardly did any STV quests with my main, so thinking I would like to but wondering about pros/cons in terms of gear drops, exp earned, etc. What part of STV do I start out in? Rebel Camp seems to have no quests yet (maybe I need to be lvl 30 first? Advice / suggestions welcome....

Answer to my own question: STV is great for questing between lvl 29/30 and at least low 40s. I just reached 40 and didn't waste a lot of time traveling to other zones. Ran to Booty Bay as quickly as possible so I could snag the FP. Quest givers in BB, the Rebel Camp in the North, and Nesingwary's Expedition just SW of the Rebel Camp, have kept my quest log close to full as there is a new one practically every time i finish one. Only thing I would say is that the drops and quest rewards seem to be way more cloth and leather than mail, which sucks for warriors and their ilk.
If you are a hunter you should definitely do STV after Duskwood, at least on non-PVP servers.

OK, I don't care what anyone says the Alliance sucks, first trip trying to make it to the horde camp i'm raped by a level 80 Death Knight who thought it would be funny to one shot a level 30. When I finally make it, I'm my own business grinding for quests, and along come a raiding party of 3 alliance 35's, who have to divert 60 or so yards into the jungle to try and kill me. Never did anything to bother them but lo and behold they have some vendetta against me for no apparent reason. Luckily I had a level 56 death knight to save my butt but they called in an 80 paladin to come "defend" them when they instigated the fight. The next 30 minutes we we're booking it through the jungle trying to escape from about 9 or so extra Alliance who wanted in on the fun. Did it make a good experience? Yes. Do I want to go through that again? No. Are the Alliance ganking @ssholes? Yes. Lesson to be learned from this, if you're going to level in Stranglethorn Vale, bring a friend, there's safety in numbers. Also wouldn't hurt to have a level 80 to watch your back because there does seem to be a lot of high level activity in the area as well.

I was really nervous about coming to STV after hearing about all the ganking between horde and alliance. My experience in the zone so far has been very pleasant and have had no problems with the horde. To be honest I love it here! Great xp, cool quests and rewards. A lot of guts and glory in BB though, I've seen both horde and ally attack the guards there! The alliance inn is in Booty Bay (Salty Sailor Tavern). Most of you will have found this already as most of the starter quests are picked up there. It's crucial to set your hearthstone there. For the FP, it's one floor above the inn. When you run up the ramp, straight ahead of you there's a room with hay in it, go in there and up the stairs to the flight master. It is also crucial to pick up the fp in Rebel Camp. This will save you the hassel of running up and down the zone. You can just hearth and fly back and forth. If you don't have RC but have the Darkshire/Duskwood FP, fly up there and run down to STV. RC is exactly to your right once you cross the bridge into STV. From lvl 30-35 most of your quests will be in the northern area of STV so you'll be spending a lot of time around RC and Nessingwary's Expedition but many of the quests end in BB. Hearthing or flying there will save you the trouble of running, bumping into horde, or the nasty gorillas & lvl ? mob roaming the road. For classes that don't have a trainer in BB flying to SW or IF doesn't take that long. The neutral AH sucks (there's nothing in there!) but the bank is very useful. You're going to have a blast in STV, trust me !

does the reputation of the attackers vs the person being attacked have a weight to the Booty Bay guards attacking the person who initiated combat. When i gank (yes i do, so shoot me) the guards NEVER attack me, i am about 1/3 way to honored in BB, and guards never attack me when i attack...

The flight path (horde) can be found near the Inn (Kalimdor Aiportport) or something like it can be read on a sign.

The Alliance Gryphon trainer is above the Inn in Booty Bay. I seem to recall that there was also a bat handler on an adjacent platform but I can't seem to find him for the life of me this morning.
Did he move or was he removed?

This spot can be difficult to uncover. If you are stuck and are trying to find it based on your last bit of map that is not uncovered, go to the edge of the area that is not uncovered, the edge nearest the path. Then rather than running all over the hills farter from the path try just going straight north across some flat land.
