Tested if this would save a rogue from a backfire-fall with the Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan, but it didn't.

Get the parachute cloak and switch over to it before you use the transporter just in case.

Take this reward from the level 50 rogue quest. It is unique in effect, unlike the mask, which would have been replaced soon anyways. It allows you to jump from the road to the mine in AB without breaking stealth.

This cape is by far the best reward from your level 52 quest. While it may not seem as great, comparatively, the fact that you will replace the boots and helm *very* quickly make it a great cape.

Moreover, it is quite unique. It stacks with Safe Fall, which when combined makes you virtually immune to conventional falling damage.

Even at level 70, your loss will be maybe 200 HP and some strength. The Agility scales well and even though you'll be out a little bit, the effect makes up for it. At the very least, save it for battlegrounds since you can jump form places like the bridge in AV and the bluffs in AB.

Has anybody tried walking off Aldor Rise with the cloak on? I wonder if the fall is still fatal.

Does this cloak's effect stuck with the passive skill that rogues have that reduces the damage from falling (don't remember the name of it)? If it doesn't I don't see any reason why one should choose to get this as a reward over 1 of the other 2 items you can choose.

After taking a walk off the Aldor elevator with only this cloak on with my level 51 Rogue with Safe Fall I can only conclude that:

No. The cloak + Safe Fall will not let you live after jumping from the Aldor Rise.

If you're horde, the Orgrimmar flight tower seems to be the ceiling of the fall-without-damage height, with the cloak and safefall. I can walk off the side and take no damage, but if i jump off the side i take ~4 damage.

I have kept this cloak in my inventory ever since I completed the quest. It's amazing the falls I can drop from without breaking stealth. People say it's novelty, but you can get behind someone by dropping from a cliff that they would never expect you to land from without losing your stealth. And you can just switch it out to your normal cloak before you start to attack. In my personal opinion, this is the best of the three rewards because of its utility, whereas the other two can be replaced very soon after.
And please don't flame me saying the other two have better stats, I stated that this is only my opinion. You are free to choose whichever quest reward you like.

Make sure you choose this cape, and keep it. I constantly hot swap it to travel faster. This is a unique item and a must have for any rogue.

This cape is quite astounding. It reduces fall damage by 50%, based on some relatively extensive testing. Fall damage itself is based on total HP, so the % holds true for everyone.

There is a large difference between reducing fall speed for "X" and reducing fall damage.

This is an ENTIRELY UNIQUE reward and should be taken by every rogue.

In addition, should you want to imitate the stealth bonus of the boots that are offered (increased stealth) just enchant the cloak with stealth. The enchant matches the boots in stealth enhancement, while at the same time boosting the distance you can fall before you break your stealth as this stacks with Safe Fall. Two bonuses, one item.

this pair of boot copies the quest boots almost to the letter it doesn't give you a lot of armor but it really help a little if you don't have the imp. stealth of the subtlety tree

Well, the "aura" gained is listed as "Value 10".

The "Safe Fall" skill's arua is listed as "Value 17".

So in theory, you can fall even farther without taking damage and coming out of stealth.

Something I would consider is how likely are you to replace any of these quest items later on?

yeah for all you just thinking one houre ahead this is crap

as an 60. rouge with shifting cloak, nightslayer cap and boots i dont need any of these, but...

to sneak around in instance you could weare the boots
but i made myselfe the nighscape boots, not as good as the boots from the reward but only the +1lvl to deception counts

the mask is nice but nothing special

the cape is something special

the first time i tried to jump down the edge at BRS to get to mc-port i missed the little edge on the side an smashed to the stone, gain 4000+dmg, i died

no i can finaly jump down
(another way is to jump right into the lava)
ok maybe this item is not very usefull right now... but the bonus it grants is unique, realy unique

and at last some facts:
i jumped several time from a position till i get the same dmg over and over
it was 1800 dmg from falling

with cape its 1000, thats nice

1. I like the agility.
2. more reduced falling damage? wow, we rogues could jump from anywhere. With this, priests dropping rogues off of big cliffs is pretty much pointless.
3. I would personally take the Ebon mask over this, because i'm trying to go for highest crit chance i can get, but there are other head items that give crit too, but no capes that give more reduced falling damage.
4.You can just get the Nightscape boots for the increased stealth level, and the mats for them are only 16 thick leather and 2 heavy silken thread. Which can be farmed in about 20 mins, or bought at the auction house for 12-15g total.

This is sooo simple, the cape will be handy FOREVER and the other items can be replaced. The cape lasts forever because you can swap it with your Epic Cape right before jumping off a cliff like at Lumber Mill or down to Mine. You can also use it in other places. So basicly, the cape lasts forever because you can keep it in your bag to double safe fall anytime you want. I knew this right when I seen it... I don't see how no one got this right away after looking at it. lol The person I did the quest with picked the Helm and I was like "Are you crazy?" lol

Since 1.10, there is now an epic pair of boots with +1 to stealth, and there are a ton of masks that dwarf the Ebon Mask. This cape is the only thing that will always be useful, even if only for when needing to take a long fall.

I am lvl 58 rogue and this is by far the better choice. I am having a blast jumping off of anything in the game and taking minimal damage. This cape extends the distance which you may fall without taking ANY damage. Until they come out with something better I will always have this on hand.

I'm not even a rogue but i know that there are a lot of helms around that level so if you get the helm you'll use it for say 2 or 3 levels and boots theres the albinno croc boots give decent enough agi but the cape....very few cloaks give agi bonus and even then most are BoE so it won't easy to get. Over all cloak seems most promising and you'll prolly use it longer than the other items.

had some problem to find the shamans but when i found them it was easy! just pickpocked three shamans and found it! to find them u need to go to timbermaw hold, there youl find the shamans, and u just need to pick pock them!

I have a lvl 70 rogue, and use this cape EVERY DAY for my daily quests with skygaurd. This cape is priceless. don't even consider getting other items because you'll get better later on. I can jump off the telredor platform in Zangarmarsh and live. There is nothing like this cape anywhere in the game that I have have seen. I can't stress enough how much better this cape is than any other item offered in the quest reward.

While I understand the arguments for the cloak, I was wondering, PVP aside (I don't PVP), has anyone ever been out questing, or in an instance, and really wished they had a slow fall cloak? My 70 Warlock has been through a little more than half of the instances in outlands (not impressive I know, but that's not the point). The point is that I have yet to encounter a quest or instance for which this ability would have been useful. So really my question is, aside from PVP, is this cloak really all that great?

Look, o'course you need this for PvP/Sneaking through instances, but I won't advise keeping it for the sole purpose of stealthing.

I've been using this drape throughout my life, just owns in any situation -- falling in AB, like -48 if you jump directly to the ground when EotS starts, running around, glitching etc.

Just wondering apart from the drape, are there any other gears that reduce fall damage too? Cos I just keep having the impression that I threw something away that did.

I picked this cape for my quest and haven't ever regretted it.

In slave pens on the jumps i lose 600 total health with this. Everyone else in the group is near dead or would die if they did both jumps in a row.

Many other useful situations. Take the cape, you might regret not having a cool mask for 4 levels but you should find uses for this no matter what level you are.

Have you done the jumps without getting hurt? Because unless you have slow fall/noggenfogger/fall cape you'll take a decent amount of damage from them.

The Duskbat Drape is the only pre-BC quest reward I still equip at 70 and I am not likely to ever get rid of it.

Why?

Because it is the best cloak to have on while you are on a flying mount other than the parachute cloak. Once you start doing the daily quests for Skyguard, you will do bombing runs in Skettis and BEM that have mobs or guns that will shoot you down. If you are too high, you die. If you are too low, you never get a shot off. This cloak allows you to fly at a medium height, get the bombs off and survive a fall.

I put +stealth on this cloak and it is part of my stealth gear and my riding gear.

Oh, and the Skyguard Cape, which is nice for parachuting into an enemy town to do a little ganking (Airborne!), has a 30 min cooldown, making it impractical for constant use.

you'll grow out of all the armor pieces really quickly, but you'll keep this forever!

using this combined with safefall is very useful, especially for situations where you have to fall and it might break stealth

also, i can jump off the shatt inns ledge and only loose like 2k health with this thing on ^^

At lvl 60 I did jump from the aldor terrace and died, receiving 3663 hp using the cape. Then I jump again with my regular cape (sargent cape) and received 3803. So the cape absorbs 140 hp.

I wouldn't do all the chain and bother me going into the instance ST for that. Dont waist your time, whit the expansion this came is worthless.

did it with the help of my druid friend he was a feral 60 we snuck in went up stairs ran past everyone friend tanked other dragon and i killed morphaz he healed me one time tho he had a 58 rogue so i did the same for him in my druid then we killed a few more monsters it can be soloed with pots but i didnt bvring any rep gear good luck fellow rogues

The guide posted is nice, just the way I did it myself. About the oozes, they can be pickpocketed as well (!) - only took me 15 mins to get the items.

I got the cape for no other reason than to test the fall damage reduction.

The first place I jumped from was a hill near ravenhold.

1243 without
623 with

The next test from the platform at undercity.

1223 without
1235 without
714 with
725 with

Test from flight tower outside ogrimmar

179, 172, 170, 166, 163, 170, 175 without

Never took damage with the Drape.

So hopefully this gives you some idea of what it does for you in terms of fall damage. You can definitly fall futher and not take any damage so you can stay hidden. It is the only thing that does anything for your ability to fall in the game at present.

Does anyone else find it odd that it lists all the other classes as eligible to wear this item and yet it is a BoP quest reward from a rogue only quest?

I'd actually like it for my druid (feline grace is a joke when it comes to fall damage reduction) and the agility would be nice for kitty form.

I'm assuming that the class restriction specification is wrong... but if anyone finds out another way to acquire this item....

I had just gotten this quest at 50 or so, and a few days later, the Wrath of the Lich King patch dropped (the one with the scourge invasion, the Ziggurats in Tanaris, some in The Blasted Lands and some in Eastern Plagues). I did like the other commented here, way back in the day. Like him I didn't know why I had kept this dumb cape in my inventory, then I go, "Where's my slow fall cape?" Again like the guy above me, I came over here to figure out what the deal was and the description? LIES! Wowhead LIES!

They took away the slow fall and Wowhead didn't even update the tool tip. They had NO right to take it away--so cool. But Wowhead usually gives a little warning when something chances but today I had to read the comments to figure out how come I'm normal but the rest of the world went crazy.

Then Blizz wants to know why no one wants to play retail. If you stopped messing up our s@#t, we wouldn't have left in the first place.
