The pot is inside the house, next to Cookie McYaungol.

To get the Root Vegetable kill the Wirmens, they drop 6+ each (beta).

The Cast Iron Pot is obtained from within the house on the farm, guarded by Cookie McYaungol

The Root Vegetable is obtained in 2 ways, Wascally Wirmen drop them in larger numbers (4+), or simply from picking them from the objects in the ground (1 per object ).

Yes, Shado-pan questline have such weird prequests :D
Awakened quests have 3 version of quests each starting from NPC that gave you previous quests.
Ordo Warbringer have quest that starts via pop-up after Channelers and backup from Taylor/Nazgrim if you abandon first.

Is anyone else having trouble interacting with the pot? I can see it glowing and I've killed the guy guarding it probably 10 times, but it won't let me click on it.

This quest was bugged for me. I killed the guy, and tried clicking the pot. It kept telling me that the pot was already being used. So I reloaded my UI. Tried to click it again, said the same thing. I killed the guy again, and tried to click it, got the same message. I had to log out of the game, and log back in; it finally let me loot the pot.

I too was unable to loot. I logged out and could. I also killed Cookie outside the house. Not sure if that made a difference, but you might drag him outside too.

I just did loot the iron pot without killing the guy.
The iron pot is on the right when you come in the house.

This quest is pretty funny if you watch your chat window. The house is at 60/88 inside Chow Farmstead and the pot is right inside on the right being used by "Cookie McYaungol". Cookie says a bunch of funny stuff but what had me really laughing was him saying "this stew needs salt....and people meatballs.....bork! bork! bork!" an obvious reference to the Swedish Chef from Sesame Street.
