Used on Thunderlord Dire Wolf south of thunderlord (51,61) If they don't turn on you, you can wait the 2 minutes and cast it again.

Really easy quest.

Just head south outside the camp, the wolfs are neutral (yellow).

Stand near one and use the Ointment, they will grow bigger and have a red glow about them.

Must be my luck, non turned on me :)

acctually they only agro if your too close just get to the max distance then the second they get big run away and your fine, it doesn't matter what level you are. Rogue's just vanish and you fine, or hunters use feign death.

if you are a hunter and they attack, feign death and the buff will be removed from them and you can get credit from buffing the same wolf right away.

Easy for hunter. Set your pet on passive or dismiss it.
Use the oil on the wolf. If it doesnt attack then go to the next wolf.
If the wolf attack then feigh death. Wolf should go to normal size and become passive again. Go to the next wolf, or if you don't wanna get in combat then wait for Feign Death to finish CD

Fyi, I just did this quest on my hunter and ran out of charges because of a couple of glitched wolves so I abandoned the quest. The qwest giver will give you a new Ointment jar w/ 5 more charges when you get back to him. Fortunately, you do not have to return and get 4 more dragon dust to do this either.

They don't hit hard at all, even on Leather. So even if they aggro you'll have an easy peasy time with them.

I have done this quest on 3 different chars and never seen a mob not aggro on me. Standing at max range also does not help, since either their aggro radius is larger than the ointment range or they are hardcoded to go after you.

This quest is so pointless, it might as well be kill 5 wolves rather than, cure them, then kill them, WHY?

Thats like being a vet, curing someones dog, then beating its face in with a brick or something

If you're a druid maybe you can try using Soothe beast before you apply the ointment. I did on mine and i got attacked once but i think thats because i stood too close.

This quest makes no sense. It reads: "I want you to take this ointment and apply it to our dire wolf friends. The Alliance will get a rude surprise the next time that they send one of their hunting parties. Be aware though that some of the wolves may not like this, and will turn on you."

This may as well read: "I want you to go slap, poke and prod these animals with a whooping stick and make them really really angry. The Alliance will get a rude surprise the next time that they send one of their hunting parties. Be aware though that some of the wolves may not like this, and will turn on you."

Personally, I think Gor'Drek should be reported to PETA, as the point of this quest is clearly just to torture innocent, non agressive animals before brutally killing them.

Tip for priests: The buff Ointment gives is DISPELLABLE.

You can do all the 5 charges on same wolf, just dispel the buff they get and re-apply the ointment. :)

This is a stupid quest XD, i keep trying the quest over and over, but they all hostile on me.

My recommendation, abandon the quest, or don't take it at all :P

Tip for rogues: Use vanish if the wolf aggros you after applying the ointment. You will still get credit but try and keep your distance from the already applied wolf for they can still detect you when stealthed. That's waht those green circles above their heads mean.

Also, try and clear the are of thos pesky bladewing dragons. They annoyingly get in your way sometimes.

The quest is called "protecting our own", i used the ointment on a couple wolfs and they attacked me, so in self defense I killed them, which seems to contradict even the name of the quest.
It felt really stupid and contradictory, so for the remaining three I just feigned death.

As a rogue, I sapped the wolf before using the ointment and I didn't have any aggro on me. However, I only thought of this after 2 wolves so it may have been luck that I didn't get the hostile wolves. Worth a try, if you're a lazy rogue or don't want to needlessly kill such fluffy wolves :)

Did anyone try gooping up the Den Mother? I wanted to see if she'd get even bigger, but I'd run out of uses by the time I got to her. Didn't know it was limited to five doses :/

I made sure to /pat and /hug every wolf before I applied the Ointment.

Not a single one attacked me.

You just need to be gentle with the poor pups, or you'll scare them <3

Easy quest as you compete it simply for using the ointment regardless if they get stronger or turn hostile. I was just wondering the thought process of turning them hostile with the quest title "Protecting Our Own". If we have to kill them, doesn't seem very "protective" to me. Just wondering why the programmers chose that route beyond the small amount of xp it awards.

As a shaman you can just get credit from one wolf, by using the ointment and purge - repeat. Just heal yourself in between.

Use Gor'drek's Ointment on 5 of the Thunderlord Dire Wolves.

Description

With the magical dust you recovered, I have fashioned a magic ointment that will aid in our own defenses.

Our dire wolves are the perfect combination of mount, sentry and friend, but the Alliance scum have been poaching them in the Jagged Ridge.

<name>, I want you to take this ointment and apply it to our dire wolf friends. The Alliance will get a rude surprise the next time that they send one of their hunting parties.

Be aware though that some of the wolves may not like this, and will turn on you.
