The whelps are found in the cave at 31,32. If you run out of whelps, are its being over-farmed, you can tread on the eggs to spawn some more.

Fastest and easiest way is treading on the eggs, which are found outlining the inside of the cave.

Cave Entrance: 32,33.

Dieng is not a good idea here, seeing as you will spawn back at Ruuan Weald.

Be sure not to die! It spawns you at Thunder Stronghold and will take you atleast 15mins to walk back to your body.

I would seriously recommend doing this with at least one other player. Take the above comments about not dying VERY SERIOUSLY as the run is ridiculously long.

Ye the run is stupid! Take a friend with or kill _everyhing_ you see! Don't try and skip anything, if you aggro to many and die... have fun with the 7 min run.
As someone else said, easiest is to step on the eggs and net them.

It's also a good idea not to turn in this quest until you finish the Maxnar quest line (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10748), or you use up the net's charges. Until you do, the net still works and comes in handy for skipping combat with those annoying whelps in the cave.

as a rouge its easy sneak in stealth up to the dragonkin whelp and net them they dont even fight back they dont have time and as for the eggs net them straight away aswell took me about 7 mins to do the q

The best way by far to do this quest is to do it while you're on 'Meeting at the Blackwing Coven'. You can gather the 5 costume scraps, go talk to the general for the quest, then while you're friendly with all of the mobs, you can capture the whelps, and nothing will aggro to you. I did it in under 3 minutes. Best way by far imo.

Yeah it really sucks to die there! Don't know if anyone else had this problem but after my costume ran out my pets attack bar went away. Ran all the way back and rezzed and attack bar still not there. Some sort of glitch?

well i think its not bad for a rogue, as for a Night elf just stealth and make sure that your far from an aggro range, break stealth by casting the net and then resume stealth by shadowmelding and wait for the stealth cooldown then use stealth once again.

Thats the only idea I did and it didnt work properly. the cave coords are 32,33

But Walking from Sylvanaar to the cave when you die?! thats not cool, If i abandoned it and did other quests is better than wasting time Ressurecting.

I am a lvl 67 troll rouge and i used stealth into the cave. I got sub specc so i can sap and return to stealth.

But i regret it. Well inside the cave you can take like 4-5 of thoose welps. Then you get mega agro from all corners in the cave. And i see that death isent a opption if you dont like ghost runs :)

LOL. How come no one has bothered to mention that there is a level 70 elite dragon called Blackscale flying around this cave?

I nearly flew right into him while I was busy counting the wrymcults around the cave from the air in druid flying form. Darn near gave me a heart attack right there.

As of patch 2.1.0 using the net will remove the disguise on you. It is no longer possible to catch these whelps without any aggro by wearing the disguise.

Also, make sure you have inventory space when you try to catch these things. I ended up using too many charges on the net before I realized my bag space was the reason I wasn't getting credit for capturing them and had to drop and the quest and pick it up again.

Well the cave entrance is at : 31.32 ..but the "blackwhelp" are inside the cave the best spot for me was 34.34!! Gl

I had the net in my shortcut bar and received an Invalid Target error, I had to open my bag and click on the net for it to work.

I had a problem with this quest. As soon as I accepted it, it disappeared and told me that I had already completed it. I contacted a GM and they said they have a work-around and would get me to people who can take care of this. They poofed and I really have no idea what that means, but I'm hoping it will be fixed soon.

Edit: Was contacted by a Senior GM. They had me log onto an ALT while looking into the matter. A few minutes later they asked me to come back and try to get the quest again, and I could! So, yeah, if you have this problem, contact a GM immediately. :)

Make sure you have an space in your bag to store the whelps once you capture them, I noticed before after I used too many charges and had to restart the quest.

PLEASE NOTE:

If the quest is bugged for you, giving you the error "You have already completed this quest", I found out from petitioning a GM that it is due to the Brewfest quests. If you participated in the brewfest quests (the GM did not specify which one(s)) you will get this error, and a GM will need to escalate your ticket to a senior GM to have it fixed for your character.

In my case, the GM tried to argue with me saying that I *had* already done the quest, but after some persistance and a threat to talk to his manager, he researched the issue and found out what the problem was. You'd do well to tell them ahead of time in the GM ticket.

Just did this quest (24 July 08) and found the corpse run less than 1 min.

I was doing great until my hunter jumped off a ledge and my pet decided it was too high and took the long way around. He bought about 10 mobs with him - it was over quickly.

If you run out of charges on your net, bad luck, you have to quit the quest and restart it, you will also lose all the Blackwhelps you have already caught even if you put them in your bank.

The best way to approach this is to mount up, and ride straight into the cave. Some of your trail will drop off -- turn around and fight the few people left who are still attacking you. Once inside the cave, take it easy on the AoE and attack one guy at a time, bumping into every "egg" you see (Just like Leeeeeeeroy!) and netting the whelps. Can't really miss. You'll have 2 shots left at the end. Don't burn these two shots, you need the net to still have a charge or two left to complete the quest. Rather than fighting all the way back out, I hearthed to Dalaran, ported to Shatt, flew back to where I needed to be and I was done in the area.

It is always interesting to me some of the changes since the last post here. You fly straight into the cave and you have 5 -6 mobs on our all at once. I suppose if you are further along than I am (69 Human Warrior) or have come accross some great armor/weapons I haven't, it might be doable. I am trying to fight my way in one mob at a time, but there are more than a dozen at the entrance....

My whelps died while I tried to catch them with the net o.O then I figured out that if you step on the eggs in the cave more whelps would respawn,. and they didn't die! :D

This cave seems to be particularly built to be difficult for Rogues who are used to stealthing their way in and out of places. The mobs are much more sensitive than most and will know you're there if you get too close. They're not too difficult a fight so it's not that big of a deal, but it is rather annoying. You also lose your stealth if you net a whelp, so make sure you've either killed or sapped the mobs around it.

YIKES! I just did this quest chain... And the quest rewards, including Inkling's Leggings - are GONE! Instead you get a measly 3 Gold! Do anyone know if they removed the rewards in 7.0?

i just spent 15 minutes catching these, without one ending up in bags, used the entire net, abandoned and reaccepted, same thing. had to open a ticket,not sure whats going on, but is broken

To get the Inkling's Leggings You need to do the following!

Go to Evergrove in the Blade's Edge Mountains (Outland)
Speak to Tree Warden Chawn for the quest A Time For Negotiation...
You'll need to find Overseer Nuaar, a neutral NPC who patrols the paths around/outside Evergrove (ignore the area noted for the quest on the map)
Speak to him to complete the quest.

Turn in to Tree Warden Chawn and pickup the next quest ...And A Time For Action, complete it
Turn in to Tree Warden Chawn again, now you'll need to speak to his buddy Samia Inkling for Poaching from Poachers
The nets are dropped from Wyrmcult Poachers (enemies with the Wyrncult Broodlings) at about 60%
Turn in to Samia Inkling and pickup the next quest Whelps of the Wyrmcult
You'll need to go north of the area noted on the map, down the side of the cliff to find the cave that has the whelps
Breaking the eggs will spawn more whelps :) net them and return to Evergrove and turn in

And, you'll have the pants!

Two issues I had with this quest. One is mostly my fault, the other is a quest design issue.

First Issue: I was using the Arcane Familiar talent on my mage and the ever-helpful Arcane Familiar was one-shotting my whelps as soon as I netted them. I spent about an hour trying to figure out what was killing the mobs (e.g., corruptions, trinket passives, azerite passives, etc), finally stripping naked only to find that something was still one-shotting my whelps. This is when I figured out that Arcane Familiar was the cause of my ever-increasing frustration.

Pro-Tip: DO NOT USE Arcane Familiar while questing in low-level zones. Any action taken that is counted as an attack will most likely trigger the Arcane Familiar's assist proc and kill most low level mobs in one shot.

Second Issue: Unlike many other quests in Burning Crusade zones (including others in Blade's Edge Mountains), you CANNOT simply return to the quest-giver and ask for a replacement item if you run out of charges. If you run out of charges on the net, you must drop the quest (losing all progress), fly back to the quest-giver and re-acquire the quest. I needed to do this several times as I tried to debug my problems with this quest. During the completion of this quest, what passed for my thoughts on Blizzard's quest design are not suitable for sharing in a public space.

Whelps of the Wyrmcult

Description

I need to examine the whelps that they are raising at the Blackwing Coven.

There should be an abundance of them flying around inside their cavernous base, as well as a number of eggs, which if you get close to them will likely hatch.

Please, <name>, take the net and capture a handful of them alive for me.

Find them by heading west across the Wyrmskull Bridge and heading through the Wyrmskull Tunnel. Follow the path to its end past Grishnath and the Raven's Wood.
