Play in bird's eye view for this. Every few seconds, the boss will yell "the earth will break you!", at which point you only need to focus on getting out of the way of falling rocks. After that, go back to ranged DPS. After he's lost enough health, pick up the object at his feet and turn in.

The boss may have a daunting amount of health, but the fight actually isn't that bad. Let Ebonhorn do the tanking and just focus on doing dps to Ma'haat. When he says "The earth will break you!", dodge the debris falling from the ceiling, represented by a swirling effect on the ground. When you beat him, he'll walk to the center and drop the scale.

Also, if you want room to move around while fighting him, make sure to clear the flat area before pulling. The elementals and worms aren't bad by themselves, but it all adds up quickly if you're not careful.

Once you get the scale and turn in the quest, pick up the next one (A Friendly Face) and go up to the cliff overlooking the room to find Navarrogg.

If you die during the encounter the quest will bugg out and you will have to abandon it and RESTART.

Managed to die while he was surrendering. Scale never spawned. Relog fixed it. :)

If Ma'haat doesn't trigger for you, I walked back a bit before the "bridge" to him to start the cutscene. Note, he will punch you back at the start of the fight, so if you're a rogue or druid and stealthed by the various adds in the center of the room, you'll have to fight them too.

Died the 1st time, too many adds and stood under hitherto unkown-about falling debris ><

Not sure if a reload was required, but I did so anyway to make sure.
I cleared the Center 1st of only the wandering mobs, (didn't worry about the squiggly ones on the side) then re-engaged Ma'haat.

No kick this time, so simply ran in circles and avoided the now known-about debris and clawed Ma'haat till he was satisfied. Done.

To give yourself an easier time with this quest, no matter your class, don't rush through it. Take the time to completely clear the zone of all adds, and pick up the azurite globes as you kill them. You will gain two stacking buffs - one that lessens the damage you take and the other that boosts your damage output. Both these come in very handy when you have to fight Ma'haat.

If you're particularly lazy, you can just let Spiritwalker Ebonhorn kill all the mobs. He's unkillable, hits decently and you still get credit even if you barely scraped the mobs enough to trigger Ebonhorn fighting them.

If you hearth out before completing this quest, go back to Highmountain 50,68 to talk to Navarrogg again.

Challenging quest for a 291 Disc Priest but it can be done. Psychic Scream and Fade do not work at all and I think I used Rapture in this fight more than in the last 10 years. Ebonhorn won't tank (as noted) and he won't even attack Ma'haat unless you attack him first. Previously I had no trouble with a Bear tank and of course the OP Uber Afflock used Ma'haat for a ping-pong ball but a 291 squishy is a very different story indeed. After about ten deaths, I worked out this strategy:

1) Kill as many of the adds on the way to Ma'haat as you can. Takes forever and they used to respawn but many of them don't now.
2) Attack Ma'haat to get Ebenhorn going and let Ebenhorn build up some aggro while dodging Ma'haat's swirly rock bombs.
3) You can run right underneath Ma'haat while spamming Power Word: Shield, Power Word: Solace, Holy Nova and Smite when you get the chance.
4) Don't run too far from Ma'haat or the ceiling will fall on you.
5) When you die (Fade doesn't work), after the fight has been going for awhile Ebonhorn will have built up enough aggro and can handle Ma'haat but you still need to avoid the rock adds (some do respawn).
6) Plan to keep healing yourself because Ma'haat's rock bombs will hit you no matter where you are. One got me boarding a bus in Cleveland the other day a week after the fight...
7) Eventually Ma'haat will give up at about 1%. Nice of him, right? Grab the Scale really quickly because the rock adds will swarm around it otherwise and you can have the opportunity for a few more deaths.

So I guess we know this fight doesn't scale to iLevel. But it can be done with patience and a big bank account. Good luck. 248G repair bill but the Depleted Scale sells for 100G, so not so bad.

If you're unable to deliver this quest, you may need to walk back to the entrance with Ebonhorn (29, 42).

Finished this quest today after three tries. 120 lvl arms warrior with ilvl 290 gear.

Kill the three rock adds in the lava area in front of Ma'haat (you will aggro them when fighting the first one).

Once cleared, walk to the base of the ramp to Ma'haat and talk with Ebonhorn to start the battle.

Hit Ma'haat once to get Ebonhorn tanking. Run to the back of the ramped platform Ma'haat was standing on and wait.

Ebonhorn will finish Ma'haat and you don't have to run around dodging the falling rocks. Should be 1 or 2 mins max.

When Ebonhorn finishes Ma'haat run down the ramp to get the shard. Talk with Ebonhorn to continue.

How do I deal with the non-telegraphed, random rocks falling from the ceiling? Note: I don't mean Ma'haat's ablitiy, Shattering Smash, which is telepgraphed, at least for the main strike.

Always takes the squishier of my chars a death or two to defeat him, luckily his HP doesn't reset.

Looking for a way back after completion? The "portal" that looks amazingly similar to a dungeon entrance, is, exactly... that. Neltharion's Lair. It is absolutely unrelated to this quest and you'll just waste your time.

Description

With the wounds healed, I can clearly sense the dragon essence. Unfortunately, it seems to emanate from the earthen giant before us. I will address the creature. Let us hope it listens to reason... but be prepared for anything. When Deathwing shattered the World Pillar in Deepholm, he earned the ire of the Stonemother and her forces. I fear this being may blame me for my father's crimes.
