Basically, allows you to have a follower NPC accompany you on your adventures throughout Draenor. This can make gameplay very interesting depending on who you have following you around; Defender Illona / Aeda Brightdawn is great for DPS specialized players who are having difficulty surviving in the world; or Delvar Ironfist / Vivianne if survivability isn't a problem and you need more DPS. Presumably, there will be more followers with Bodyguard with more diverse abilities as the WoD develops.

7 followers are capable of being your bodyguard on Draenor, once assigned to your barrack level 2 or above. They do not go into instances/raids with you, making their perks obsolete in some enviroments.

Bodyguards also have their own reputation which currently gives 10 for every kill in your level range.

This reputation goes to 10.000, twice. Each time giving you a higher affection level, starting at 1. Level 2(Wingman) gives a combat ability for your follower, Level 3(Personal Wingman) gives you a perk, after completing a personal quest for the follower.

The bodyguards availiable for the Horde, and their perks are:
Vivianne:
With the abilities:
Level 1: Fireball, Blizzard.
Level 2: Summon Meteor
After slaying an infested orc in the everbloom wilds:
Level 3: Create a portal to your garrison.
Vivianne is the Horde counterpart to Delvar Ironfist, a dwarf Death Knight. Who shares the same perk. But a different level 2 ability. Both are optained similarily through the level 90 quest: Ashran Appearance quest line.

Aeda Brightdawn:
With the abilities:
Level 1: Demonic leap, Shadowbolt Volley and Demonwrath, which is her tanking stance. (She is a demo tank-lock.)
Level 2: Summon infernal.
After slaying Ambassador Hellmaw at the harbor of Shattrath
Level 3: Summon selected party/raid member.
Aeda Has an alliance counterpart which is a Defender Illona, a draenei paladin. Who shares the same perk. But a different level 2 ability. Both are optained similarily through a short questline where you have to help them get past a ghastly roadblock. in Talador.

The neutral bodyguards availiable to both factions are:

Level 1: Mind Flay, Summon Shadowfiend
Level 2: Dot with Haste reduction.
After slaying a shadowmoon orc and taking her staff:
Level 3: Ishaal is now your personal mobile mailbox.
Optained by talking to him in Veil Terokk after completing the Spires of Arak questing achievement.

Tormmok:
With the abilities:
Level 1: Recklessness and heavy auto attacks.
Level 2: Avatar.
After retrieving his sword for him from Naggrand:
Level 3: Your personal repairman in the field.
Joins you after being saved from Botani in Gorgrond.

Leorajh:
With the abilities:
Level 1: Lightning Bolt and a Chain Healing, though very rarely.
Level 2: Bloodlust
After you help him reclaim his prayer beads from an arrakoa in skettis:
Level 3: Your personal missions table in the field.
Optained by finding him in a cave in the mountains in southern spires of Arak. Some Arrakoa and apexis golems are in your way but can be ignored by stealth classes.

This and the garrisons in general are going to have a serious negative effect on WPVP. If you don't have the buildings that give you the bonuses your going to get wrecked.

A few important things about bodyguards:

To Get Your Bodyguard to follow you:

Assign a follower with the bodyguard trait to the barracks from the architect table in the Townhall.
They will appear outside the Barracks.
Go to that follower and ask them to assist you in Draenor. (The Phrase is: "I could use a little muscle")

Body Guard Level:

Your bodyguard fights at the level you are at. I'm currently level 97, and so even though in my Garrison she is level 95, when she fights with me, she is also level 97.

Body Guard Death:

Your bodyguard can die easily. I used the warlock Aeda. She died taunting to a level 97 rare in Arak.

**There will be a 60 minute down time if they die, where they cannot be used or sent on a mission. You must go back to the Garrison and re-request them to assist you.**

Also followers love to AoE and pick up opposite faction pets on PvP realms just while randomly attacking mobs which they will attack until they die. I REALLY wish blizzard would give me a way to tell my bodyguard: DO NOT ATTACK THAT! As just being close to the opposite faction while leveling will result in an HOUR death for them.

World PvP:

An hour is a painful amount of time if your bodyguard dies, and makes ANY WPvP something to completely avoid.

Bodyguards are not useful in WPvP and are often just ignored. Or worse.. targeted on purpose.

A few useful tips:

Set your bodyguard to the focus-target (right click their portrait, click "Set Focus"), so that you can track his/her health all the time. Even if you can't heal them, it still helps a lot to know if they're about to die.

Try not to accidentally AoE hostile players - your bodyguard will try and kill them. If it happened, you'd be better off trying to run away as quickly as possible, thus resetting your bodyguard. You can also try killing the enemy player, of course, but bear in mind that followers are quite fragile.

Gaining reputation with a bodyguard can be painful, so if you want to quickly grind some of it, I found a neat place just for that - stop by the rare mob Sunderthorn. In order to make it spawn, you have to kill some weak mobs there that come in packs - Stingtail Workers. If you stick to the hill, the spawned rare will not be in range to aggro you, and you'll be able to freely AoE these small packs down, which will then quickly respawn. Basically you can get your lv3 perk in half an hour or so - depending on the speed of your kills. I am not sure that works for level 100, but then again, I see no reason why it wouldn't.

A good spot to farm Bodyguard reputation is between Frostwall Garrison, and Stonefang Outpost (Frostfire Ridge).

Reasons why this is good :

You can get Sumptuous Fur
You can get Raw Boar Meat
Most of the boars in the pack are "Minion" mobs, meaning they have a lot less health then regular mobs
The respawn rate is somewhat decent. When you run out of boars to kill in this area, you can go to the area between Frostwall Garrison and Grom'gar (not in the valley on the map, but on the ridge next to Grom'gar) to kill the spiders there
If you are a member of the Horde, you are relatively close to your Garrison

Fastest way to get rep with your bodyguard is by grinding the carnivorous squirrel 食肉松鼠 at 38.04, 22.38 in Shadowmoon valley. The squirrels have a almost instant respawn rate, very low health, and spawn in packs of 10+.

Note this place is highly camped and likely to be hotfixed soon.

Does Horde really get no tanking companion for this, and alliance gets two? My poor squishy mage could really use a tank bodyguard but the closest I can get is a demo lock. I am sadface. :(

Edit: I have found that in spite of Delvar being listed as blood spec, he is not a tank but AOE DPS. He must be wrath-era still!

So, if like me, you have done some research you probably saw that getting the blueprints for the level 2 large buildings needs to be done at level 98.

This is true to a point. There are outpost quests you can do that allow you get a book that can be turned in for a specific blueprint. So while you don't get ALL the blueprints this way you can get specific ones. I loved the idea of the bodyguard but wanted them to follow me around while questing/leveling.

1. Build the barracks - this one is obvious since you need the barracks for the bodyguard and it's built automatically at the start of your garrison
2. Get a follower with the bodyguard trait.
This is done easily by following the first quests to Ashran, finishing that little sequence and you get the caster follower Vivianne
You can do this early on to start leveling her on missions as well. You do not need to wait for level 94 for this
3. Continue to level to 94 as you normally want to
4. You will get a quest in your garrison to go to Talador
5. Take the flight path to Talador and do this specific quest chain

Continuing with the following quest series rewards a Comprehensive Outpost Construction Guide and follower Miall / Morketh Bladehowl. The quest series are relatively similar across factions:
The Quarry Quandary
In Ared's Memory/ Unleashed Steel
Out of Jovite
Iridium Recovery
Gas Guzzlers
Going to the Gordunni
Dropping Bombs
Supply Recovery, Prized Repossessions, Punching Through
The Lord of the Gordunni

6. Once you have this item, fly back to Ashran and exchange Comprehensive Outpost Construction Guide for Barracks Blueprints level 2
The vendor for this is standing by the flight path, a goblin dude
7. Learn the blueprint by clicking on it in your bags
8. Go back to your garrison and go into your architect plans
9. Click on the barracks and click upgrade
10. Once upgraded take the bodyguard follower and click the + to assign them to the barracks
11. Go back to your barracks and this new follower should be sitting out front
12. Click on them and chose "I need some muscle"
13. They will now follow you around

Been keeping an eye out for a good place to farm bodyguard rep.

I found it. In gorgrond there is a bonus quest that has you kill spiders, pales, and a boss.

The spiders spawn from egg sacs, each egg sac spawns two spiders, the respawn on the egg sacs is extremely fast.

Essentially, pick your bodyguard, head to this spot http://www.wowhead.com/maps?data=6721:522761 and find the center room in the cave. You'll see about 7 egg sacs around you, all the mobs have low health and can be AoE grinded down. I went from 0 to max reputation with a follower in roughly 20 minutes.

As a disc priest with very little dps output, I find bodyguards to be pretty useful when questing and farming mats. I find that you can't buff them (with Fortitude for example), but you can heal them.
It doesn't matter if you are level 99 and you choose a bodyguard who is level 92. As soon as you recruit them, they will automatically become the same level as you. Pretty nice ;).
If your bodyguard dies, there is a debuff in which you have to wait 1 hour to re-recruit. Once the debuff is over, you will need to go back to your garrison and speak to that follower to activate him as a bodyguard again. You can, however, assign a new follower to take their place.
For those of you who have a specific follower that you would like as your bodyguard, make sure that you don't put them on a mission. They can't be in two places at once. So if you put them on a mission, you need to wait until that mission is finished before you can assign them to the barracks.

I've tried the squirrels, which didn't respawn quickly enough (although you can afk it if you don't want speed), and the beehive. The beehive was pretty good. I tried the egg sac room, and I got too annoyed at the terrible poison effects.

My current spot is Darksting Cave, in Gorgrond, at 53,78. That's where Mother Araneae is. I sit off to the right of the entrance and constantly pull spiders and pale spider worshipers to me, and aoe them down. Every few minutes in the spot I'm at, a bunch of untargetable spiders spawn and they all give rep, too. I wish I knew what made them spawn.

Edit: I get it now. The spiders are hallucinations caused by the poison. In the other cave, the poison gives you pale orc hallucinations, which don't give rep. This cave spawns a swarm of spiders that DO give rep. Once I figured out I should ignore the orcs and focus on the big spiders, my rep rate doubled. The orcs will die from your ae or from your bodyguard, but you want the spiders biting you.

After my farming spot in Shadowmoon Valley got hotfixed I went to find a new spot, and in Gorgrond around Overlook Ruins (http://www.wowhead.com/maps?data=6721:522712510710511728) there are Stoneshard Grublings in packs of 8-10 that you get rep from.

Seeing as to the spawn time is a bit slow and unreliable I suggest running around the triangle on the map I linked since the clusters have spawned back once you get back to the one you started on.

Crossing fingers this farmspot will last...

Consolidated some info about bodyguards, hope it helps others, got tired of looking these up individually for my alts. Posted this over @ 搭档 first.

Bodyguards out in the field are equal to your level, even if their "follower level" is lower or higher (eg, my Illona is 95 because I'm always using her, but in the field she's level 100). The followers do stealth with you, they also will stealth if you use shadowmeld out of combat (if they're in combat though they will ignore it)

Others went over what happens if one of them dies, but to recap: if your bodyguard is defeated, you have to wait an hour to bring them back out with you. You can swap them out though, so for example if Ishaal dies you can swap him for Tormmok while waiting for Ishaal's debuff to expire.

Rep levels: Each bodygaurd has two "levels" of rep each needing 10,000 rep to max out. After maxing out the first level, your sidekick gains an ability of some kind, for example Ishaal gains a long stun ability. When you max out the 2nd level of rep your sidekick offers you quest (usually to defeat a powerful enemy) that when completed gets you access to a perk of some kind, like mobile mail access or repairs. Edit: You gain 10 rep per enemy killed w/your bodyguard active.

For internal reasons, npc's in the right column is the ones that follow the player around as a bodyguard, but for the player the name is masked to the follower name, everyone else sees the actual name.

The quests to unlock your bodyguards' level 2 and 3 abilities (eg Leorajh's portable mission table) require you to be level 100.

Edit: What's with the downvotes? It's good to know there's no point in farming Bodyguard rep before 100. Wish I'd known.

I have found something interest for the bodyguard that you get quest when they hit personal wingman. So when you hang around in Broken Precipice, Nagrand and you'll found 托莫克的佩剑 in the cave up the hill. That is really belong to 托莫克 and so I don't know other bodyguards have same lost items around in the Draenor.

I don't know if it's a bug or not, but i had Vivianne with me when i was killing Tarlna the Ageless today and her dot from her Fireball stacked up to 99 stacks and ticked for 65k/tick, helped me push a 56k dps for the solid 5min fight, pretty sweet.

I like to keep focus on my bodyguard so I can see when they are taking damage, especially the tanks. I made this macro so I could put focus on whatever bodyguard I had with me with a single keystroke.

It works for all the bodyguards in both factions.

Okay, after extensive testing.

The ilevel of your bodyguard doesn't matter. Your bodyguard, like your pets, inherits your stats, including food buffs and flasks. To maximize your bodyguard's damage, maximize your own.

At 59,45 in the spires is a spot with a lot of easy to kill packs of wasps close together. They respawn really fast and there is no running around at all.

Not sure why this was downvoted. This is an awesome spot. The only downside is if someone else is there. You can group, but only only seem to get rep if you get the killing blow.

For anyone grinding bodyguard reputation:

After trying gaining bodyguard rep at places others have suggested, I found this place and it blew all the rest right out of the water. You'll find "Iyun Pustules" inside Moira's Rise at Bastion Rise in Gorgrond (48.0, 94.5.) You can stand in one spot and wave after wave will practically instantly spawn and run into your AoE. You could gain a full bar of rep in 15 minutes or less just from standing in that one spot and casting an AoE spell.

Completing the quest in which you kill Iyu outside the cave ends the mini-event in which these pustules spawn so keep that in mind.

The only catch is once in a while - and after some time - the amount of pustules spawning goes down, or they just stop spawning all together. Simply go off somewhere for 5 minutes or so and then go back to Moira's Rise. You'll have to go a bit deeper that before, watch for dust explosions and ground shakes occurring (signalling Iyu has phased in outside and above you) and the pustules have returned.

It would appear that none of the follower's properties (abilities, rarity, traits, ilevel, level, etc) apply when they are a bodyguard.

The only thing that determines the bodyguard's abilities are your level, gear, buffs, and reputation with the bodyguard.

I tested this using a 100/630 epic follower and a 92 rare follower. The rare follower was actually better, so I recommend picking a follower based on how their abilities compliment yours. You might also want to consider what follower abilities you don't need for missions.

As a protection paladin I use Vivianne to dish out damage while I tank and heal. Squishy types might prefer Aeda or Illona. I've also used Ishaal for better single target damage as Vivianne has a habit of casting Blizzard/Meteor a little too often for some situations.

If your bodyguard "dies", just go to your Garrison and set a different bodyguard as the Barracks' follower. You can then use a different Bodyguard until the original you want to use comes off "cooldown".

The "dead bodyguard" debuff is specific to that individual follower and you can use another Bodyguard in the meantime. It dying does not mean you can't use ANY. It may not be the one you want to use the most, but when your bodyguard dies you can simply use another in the meantime.

I'm shocked at how many people do not know this. You can always have a bodyguard out unless you let ALL of them die within an hour.

DO NOT COMPLETE THIS QUEST! This quest is the BEST way to raise your rep with your bodyguards (followers with bodyguard trait). Accept the quest and go to the upper flor at 52,31. There will be some adds 91 lvl with 8.1k HP and when you kill them they will respawn within 1 sec.

As a frost DK, it took me 17 minutes to raise a follower from "Bodyguard" to "Personal Wingman" which translates to 20k rep in 17 mins (i also had the trading post bonus which means 12 rep per kill instead of 10).

When you are done, abandon the quest, go to your garr pick up next follower go back there accept it and do it all over again.

Note that the second time i went there i they wouldnt respawn so abandoned the quest again, and accepted it after 1 min and it was working fine like before.

When your bodyguard dies you can return to your garrison and assign another follower with the trait to the barracks and select it as your bodyguard. I've had two bodyguards on "defeated" cooldown while a third was active.

Putting my bodyguard on focus has reduced untimely deaths even though healing a bodyguard would seem counterintuitive to tanks and dps.

As a human with 货栈等级3 I get 13 rep with my bodyguard for each kill regardless of level. Use bodyguards to farm the mats you need or see other posts for areas with quick respawns.

I like bringing my bodyguards along to garrison invasions. Each invasion is worth a little over 500 reputation points. It's fairly easy rep and the extra DPS is welcome.

If you're a warlock or other class with pets and are going AFK for long periods of time it's worth putting your character at a location with large groups of low health enemies and staying there.

As a warlock I used my Infernal to AoE down packs as they spawned on me, but a single target minion or pet could work just as well.

If you and your bodyguard are both level 100 then it should also be possible to use this method without a pet or minion.

So far the best location I've found is Overlook Ruins in Gorgrond, with packs of 裂石幼虫s which spawn regularly in packs of about 8, with each enemy having roughly 5k hp.

Note: if you're able to return to ensure you don't get timed out for being AFK too long on a relatively regular basis this method is incredibly effective, e.g. at work (disclaimer: Weasei is not accountable for loss of employment due to following this advice).

EDIT: a Voidwalker will now do the job just fine!

I really wish you could 'call off' your body guard from attacking, similar to the Pet "Assist", "Defensive", and "Passive" settings. If you accidentally pull too many mobs, or otherwise just want to leave combat, you can't recall your bodyguard and he just dies. Is there anyway to check bodyguard lv2 abilities while in game?

Yes after time Ill come to remember them but that time hasn't come yet. Would really like two things with bodyguards.

1) a way to double check what there lv2 abilities are while in game.
2) If a bodyguard uses a buff or cd ability I'd like to see it pop up on my buff chart for the duration.

Otherwise the only other thing is getting my bodyguard to not be in the way when I try and click things. Especially Tormmok omg the dudes huge. But I am glad Blook isnt a body guard cause then I couldnt see my screen.

For those who listed bodyguard info. Thanks for that.

I've found an amazing spot for multitask farming, too, at least if you have a strong AoE damage ability. My personal favorite combo for this grind is Arcane Explosion with the Glyph of Arcane Explosion.

Killing Riot Blossoms and Swamplighter Drones along Swamplight Trail in Shadowmoon Valley awards both the Lovely Charms and Bodyguard reputation, with no Botani interference if you remain in this Trail and don't cross over the river.

One full circuit along each side of the trail, into the cave, and up around the hillock at the north end takes only 3 to 3 1/2 minutes and has almost fully respawned by the time you get back around to your starting point. Thirty minutes of grinding (appx 12-15 passes) will max your follower rep to Personal Wingman and give you roughly 50-60 charms on each pass.

Just be nice to any 90s questing there who need these mobs and the Swamplighter Queen for Fiona's quest chain; let them tag the bee before you burn it down.

As of 2/22/15 it is possible to get a follower to level 3 (Personal Wingman) in about 15-20 minutes so you can finish 搭档 in about 90 minutes.

If you chose the Lumber Yard in Gorgrond, there is a chain that leads to 艾韵, staying inside and killing the podling adds yields reputation for your follower and they respawn almost instantly.

Luckily I initially chose the Arena so I was able to go back and get this quest, for the small price of 5000 gold. :)

edit: If you want to do this with more than one bodyguard, abandon the quest and go back down to 快刀 and accept it again. Repeat as needed.

How do you get a bodyguard to attain 12 reputation per kill? Everything I've read so far (and on other characters) says 10, but for some reason my Blood Elf Paladin has Vivienne receiving 12 points per kill.

Does anyone know what causes this?

Word of note: for mission min-maxing Bodyguards are actually the worst followers to have (again, for min-maxing, not from a bodyguard assistance point of view). 看家护院 is useless for missions. Deactivate them after you maxed out rep and/or don't need the assistance of a bodyguard anymore. I would suggest keeping one for invasions/questing, for which I chose 利奥拉 due to his amazing second rank ability and occasionally useful Wingman perk.

This may be Vivianne specific, but she cannot crit. She does benefit from your multistrike stat, though.

Just for the record, if you have the Golden Fleece from Timeless Isle, you can use it to get occasional gold drops while farming bodyguard rep on the weak mobs near Sunderthorn. (Even though they don't drop any loot normally)

If you think that your bodyguard is to big and keeps getting in the way go into your barracks and you can buy a Bodyguard Miniaturization Device off a guy in there, makes tiny(er)

I have trouble keeping track of my bodyguard, so I made a macro to focus, add a raid marker, and go back to my last target:

"6" assigns a blue square - I find it easiest for me to see against jungle greens. If you prefer, you can substitute for another icon:

If these bodyguards worked for me in real life I would fire the SOB! I'm tired of them running off to do their own thing instead of staying with me. I go out of my way to side step large mobs only to have the body guard to rush right in and suicide!

So do you still gain rep in a group? As I was in a group and occasionally getting rep so does that mean you only get it if you last hit the mob?

i use the BG daily. Things i noticed that i hope can be fixed.
1 they switch targets with you. I wish they would just finish off the last one, instead they drag the 3 mobs toward you because you hit the one next to you.
2 The attacks that stun the target for a second make the BG pack up and head back to you. To me that is valuable punch time.
3. The set focus falls off a lot. I set so i can heal him , do something and realize the icon is not on t he screen. I would like it all the time on the screen.
4 . I would love a "Stay put" . Too many times i put a DOT on a target only for him to run at it and pull the whole camp.

As a Priest, you can use 信仰飞跃 on your bodyguard.

It can be useful when your bodyguard is a caster, since he stays behind, sometime he takes the aggro of some extra mobs. Just use 信仰飞跃 to keep him close to you.

Perhaps important to note:

Dismiss your bodyguard before approaching the demon assault at 56/66 in Taldor (Near Auchindoun) because as the spawn rate of demons is so high, they will be trapped there until they die.

If you are Horde coming here to see if there is a Tank Bodyguard, there isn't. Tormmok's character page says he has Taunt, but it only works for follower missions. He cannot hold aggro worth spit with you, and as others have said his damage output is middling. Meanwhile, Alliance have Defender Illona who can even tank elite mobs.

Doing Draenor on an alt in BfA I’d forgotten how to assign a bodyguard.

The main thing I figured out this time around is that if you have healing abilities you can heal your bodyguard. Show friendly nameplates (since you can’t invite the bodyguard to a group) or, as pwnt suggests, set your bodyguard as your focus.

You need a level 2 Barracks. To assign a Draenor bodyguard (who is not on a mission), go to the Architect's table, not the mission table* and click on the "Barracks" building. There’s an empty portrait space and a big + sign. Drag the icon for a bodyguard into the slot. It now says "working". If you change your mind, click the red circle with the diagonal line through it.

Your bodyguard is waiting outside the ~~garrison~~ Barracks entrance.
Click on the bodyguard to open a window and click on the chat bubble. It says: "I could use a little muscle." Your bodyguard will follow you.
If you want to dismiss your active bodyguard now or in the field, click on the bodyguard and open the chat bubble: "Name, head back to the barracks".
If your bodyguard is dead you'll see a small skull with a 60 minute timer near the mini map: "Name has been defeated in combat."

*In Legion, it's simpler. The bodyguard is assigned from the mission table/board.

Unfortunately the Dreanor bodyguards were created first without consideration as to what would happen if your character grew beyond level 110. Also, these bodyguards should have been able to be assigned to you at level 90 when you first build your garrison and barracks. That's when they would have been the most useful.

Once your ilvl is too high, the bodyguards can no longer gain experience to level with you.
That's a bummer because this was a fun process when it was developed.

Now days the body guards make much more sense.
With the Nazjatar followers, you can level them (rank) by doing quests.
They keep getting better and better as they level up the rank.

Blizzard has learned a lot since then.

I just reached a new "rep" with Ironfist as a bodyguard and he has a quest icon but when I talk to him nothing pops up. I tried benching him, taking him off bodyguard duty and ask then, still nothing. Anyone know what it can be? Thanks for any inputs
