Indeed a very nice helm. Got it myself and it clearly beats the Red Dragonscale Helm (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29508) which is the best resto shaman helm you can get preraiding in tbc, but with a cost of 6 mp/5 if unsocketed. With a +12 int & chance to restore mana on spellcast (which restores 300 mana) (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25901) -gem in the metasocket and a +9 healing & +2 mp/5 it weighs up the mp/5 and adds great stats and increases the +healing by 12. Go get it!

For best results go for Bracing Earthstorm Diamond, for the healing and reduced threat. As a JC i feel that as the 2nd gem Royal Tanzanite suits best, it will let You gain the +healing Bonus from socketing and You'll get some additional mp5 at the loss of +6 Healing if You would socket Kailee's Roset .

No, beginning shamans don't really go for yellow gems much. However, there is an alternative to gemming with straight yellow gems. Take a look at the Luminous Noble Topaz, which is considered by many to be the optimal gem to put into a yellow slot until around T6, where haste does become a necessary stat to come by. If you're gemming epic gems, the counterpart is the Luminous Fire Opal or Luminous Pyrestone.

Other options for yellow gems also inclue the Dazzling Talasite and Dazzling Seaspray Emerald or Dazzling Chrysopase - the green gems also fulfill both needs for blue and yellow gems.

However, most shamans will opt to use orange and purple gems rather than two green gems, because you get more bang for your buck with the +healing bonus on orange and purple gems.

The purple gems a shaman ought to stick with are Royal Nightseye, Royal Tanzanite and Royal Shadowsong Amethyst.

I also agree with Zandranas that the Insightful Earthstorm Diamon is the best meta gem for a resto shaman because of the near-constant casting a resto shaman will generally do in a raid - and it will literally proc off of any spell you have in your book other than Nature's Swiftness, including Water Shield and Totemic Call.

As for the helm itself, it as a standalone probably still outweighs the S2 gear that became available for honor as of Patch 2.4, namely the Merciless Gladiator's Ringmail Helm, which can be gemmed in the exact same manner as the T4 Helm, using a purple gem to gain socket bonus. It also provides mp5 and a +healing socket bonus, whereas the Merc helm grants resilience and spell crit (something shamans don't generally itemize for currently).
