Legion Changes

Higher ranks for new Legion recipes are learned via Work Order discoveries.

Each Cooking Recipe has three ranks. Higher ranks let you craft more food per reagent.

Cooking works differently than other professions--your max skill cap is not automatically increased to 800 when you pick up Legion cooking. You must hit level 98 and skill level 700 to learn the next rank.

It's been suggested that you do different work order ingredients 5 at a time. This way you can't earn 2 of the same recipe (rank). Example if you turn in only Wildfowl Eggs, you might get 2 Rank 2 Faronaar Fizz instead of level 2 and 3 from one pick up. To avoid this by using 4 or 5 different types you might get Rank 2 Faronaar Fizz and a Rank 2 of something else.

Different ingredients would be the most efficient, but it you want a particular recipe focusing on that specific ingredients that only has that type left would be a good option.

OK If you are like me and confused as to where 'you get and learn Legion recipes' so you can 'attract the attention of Nomi' ?

It is through your normal questing. Eventually you will come across some quest that gives you a recipe.
Check the list above, and find the quest trail (the one I did I had to do a bunch of pre quests). Then Nomi will popup and give you another quest.

I wish we could somehow influence Nomi's success rate. I've had at least 20-30 "burned foods" come out of his little test kitchen. It's understandable that we shouldn't get a recipe each time but it really is a fight with RNGsus.

Ok.. I pushed this character (Faeder) and his max cooking is 600. Do I have to go back into Draenor to get my cooking to 700 to move into Legions cooking?

Not sure if it matters or not, but after burning about 30 orders, I decided to level my cooking from 550 to 704, which included learning Legion cooking at 700. I picked up a recipe within my first 3 orders after that. Not sure whether it's luck or not. Maybe it just increases the chance.

I still have a lot of orders going, I will update the comment once they are done.

You are now able to start Work Orders for any type of Legion meat or fish you possess. Each Work Order lasts 3 hours. Creating a Work Order with a specific ingredients has a chance to teach you a recipe that uses that ingredient.

Interesting note: There doesn't seem to be a dialog option from Nomi for both 银鲭鱼 and 大块异香肋排 which makes getting the rank upgrades for 风干鲭鱼丝 and 香辣烤肋排 more challenging. Friends have gotten the upgrades from Nomi and even hovering over the rank does state that the rank is learned from these work orders.

Update: Looks like you need to have the food item in your inventory/bank in order to get that dialog option.

This may be completely anecdotal/random, but here goes...

I was holding off on making a ton of food, hoping to get some more T2 and T3 recipes. Well, after 4 days of sitting at around 740 cooking, I got nothing but burnt food, was pretty upset at that point. Well, couldn't wait anymore, needed to start cooking for the guild (I'm guild cook), so I started crafting away and got up above 760. The very next work order awarded a T3 and a T2 recipe that allowed me to go to 780. Got another T2 recipe at the point (so three recipes after leveling up). So either it appears that what Nomi gives you is tied to your cooking level, or he could feel my rage and decided to placate it a bit. That said I'm still missing about 4 T1 recipes...

As a side note, it doesn't appear to matter what food you give him. I've gotten fish-only and bacon recipes off of ribs and shanks.

Thank you very much for this guide! Things have changed quite a bit so this is very helpful. That said, there's a SMALL correction of wording I think would make it more clear in the Average Food section:

"This food requires generally requires 5 of either a meat or a fish"
should probably say "This food requires 5 of either..." or "This food generally requires 5 of either..." but I'm not sure which. Is it always(requires) 5 or sometimes(generally) 5? If sometimes, maybe you should explain the possible circumstances.

Bug or not, seems that Silver Mackerel are instant work orders by Nomi (not 4 hours). And is one of the ingridients to one of the delicious recipies(best food) Seed-Battered Fish Plate.

Do you need to learn how to make the Rank 3 300 stat food before Nomi will give you the 375 one? For instance, after going out and getting the Rank 1 Recipe: Suramar Surf and Turf for 300 haste, does Nomi need to discover Ranks 2 and 3 before he'll discover the Rank 1 Recipe: Azshari Salad for 375 haste?

Had to take the last 20 skills in cooking by the dailys in org/uc/tb as all learned recipes were grey and <The master burner> Nomi hasn't offered me a single recipe in 12 days and counting..

Is there any rhyme or reason to this?

For instance, if I am researching Fishbrul Special, and I got it using Black Baracuda - should I then start researching it with the other ingredients?

Something tells me this is totally RNG, because I received a *** right off the bat on the Nightborne Delicacy Platter, and that was just randomly throwing what I had at Nomi when I was filling work orders.

To Level from 780 to 800 Cooking you need Level 3 recipes.

Level 3 recipes for example 食谱：“饥饿的魔导师”套餐 are yellow @780 and you will get skillups from them. Visit Nomi to get Level 3 recipes from the test kitchen work orders.

Or you do the classic cooking dailies in main cities, which is a pain imho.

My advice, if you just want to level cooking fast to 800, and you already hit 780, and you're done burning food trying to get the rank 3 recipes, is to level from 780 using the capital city dailies, at least untill 795, when you can do the Darkmoon Faire cooking quest and be done with it.

At least untill Blizz does a REAL hotfix on that bad RNG on the rank 3 recipes, you can get your leveling achievements.

For the hordies:

Silvermoon : no cooking daily that I am aware of.
Thunderbluff : 1 of 5 random quests from 阿丝卡·迷雾行者 from the topmost bluff in the middle.
Undercity : 1 of 5 random quests from 尤奈斯·伯奇 in the middle room.
Orgrimmar : 1 of 5 random quest from 玛洛格.

For the Alliance:

Ironforge : 1 of 5 random quests from 达瑞尔·瑞克努索.
Darnassus: 1 of 5 random quests from 阿雷贡.
The Exodar: no cooking daily that I am aware of.
Stormwind City: 1 of 5 random quests from 罗比·弗雷.

Ok, since Silvermoon and The Exodar came with TBC expansion I presume the dailies are only from Classic, but always current since they still give profession skillups no matter what expansion it is.

EDIT: It seems, that you can now only do 1 of any city daily, and one of those can give +2 skillups instead of just +1, so it is good to check on all cities if any of them gives the +2 skill mark and do it.

A very simple thing most people do is when they get that 1st recipe they install it right away.
Do Not put it in so quickly! When the bear gives you the quest to meet him or her in Dalaran , Save it until you get the 2nd quest.
At that point you will have 2 recipes to install and they will both count toward the 6 you need to complete the quest.
Any Recipes you put in BEFORE you get the quest "A good Recipe List" WILL NOT Count toward the 6 you need. to complete it.

While ksib's comment nicely sums up what recipe do you get by placing different work orders, I find reversed approach also useful. Here is table, that shows which work order you should place in order to get a specific recipe.

Is there any confirmed limit on level 3 delicacy recipes? Eg; Azshari Salad / Seed Battered Fish Plate?

I was able to get the 3 star recipe for Fish plates within a week of the expansion starting, but I've been researching nonstop without fail since launch and I still have yet to see a level 3 of any other recipe. Am I just insanely unlucky in this pure rng dominated xpac?

I have 600 in cooking... done the 6 recipe quest, get recipes from the legion xpack and can cook them... But... I dont get any skillpoint since i'm caped at 600 and have no clue how to get past that since I need 700 to buy the legion skillbook that alows me to get to 800. Any kind soul out there that can give me a advice, tips or anything useful... ;(

An excellent surprise I got was that even if you already have kitchen research queues finished and ready to be picked up, if you then learn a new recipe that has ingredients that were being researched, you will have a chance to learn the second rank when you pick up your results!

I had some research to pick up, but first learned 食谱：苏拉玛海陆大餐. I had 精瘦腿肉 as one of my researches. When I picked up the results, I got 食谱：苏拉玛海陆大餐.

This is definitely a little late, but if you're using the addon NomiCakes be absolutely sure you have all the rank 1 recipes you can get by buying them, or from drops, beforehand. NomiCakes will show you that you can get rank 2 and 3 recipes for each type of ingredient regardless if you have discovered rank 1, and you will have wasted tons of ingredients trying to get rank 2 of said recipes. I didn't have the one sold by the NPC in Jandvik and so I have been making Nomi fat since the start of the expansion with zero chance of return because of this. Frankly, it could be my fault entirely that he is unwillingly to hand out recipes to the rest of you.

For those who boost or get a new 110, if you don't BUY Legion cooking, it's likely you won't get some of the recipes. I killed Mordvigbjorn for his recipe and it did NOT drop. Paid for Legion cooking and after killing it once more, got the recipe.

Please note that the "quests in dynamic zones" are optional side quests. I was able to do the questline in 鲑鱼溪 after completing the Tears of Elune main questline in 瓦尔莎拉. I also got the recipe from 我没说谎！ by doing the optional quests from 赫米特·奈辛瓦里 at Hemet's Hunting Ground in 至高岭. These are NOT world quests.

This guide needs to be updated because the NPC 阿莉多米 in Legion's Dalaran sells bags with Legion's Reagents, to pretty much ALL professions (even a bag with 萨格拉斯之血), and cooking reagents is not an exception.
She sells for 25 时空扭曲徽章 (each reagent bag, but the BoS one, which is 150) meat (破碎群岛肉类快递箱) and fish (破碎群岛鱼类快递箱) bags that contain meat/fish, and also each MEAT bag contains 5x破碎群岛食谱残页 (don't worry, they're 10xUnique, the excess ones the Postmaster will mail them to you). The Fish bags can drop the Fisherfriends reputation items too, like 浸水的魔力.

This is a good way to learn the last recipe ranks/new recipes left from Legion, just make sure to farm enough TW Badge on the needed character as those scraps are BoP, not the reagents.

Nomi Snacks should be used carefully. They proc new recipes (level 1) that are normally obtained through
quests much less often than level 2 bumps. They also give level 3 bumps less often although not as bad
as how they deal with new recipes. At current prices unless you have hundred of thousands of gold to
waste do all the quests and stop bribing Nomi when what you have left to discover are mostly level 3's.

The Two Feasts have pre-requistes to getting level 1, after that it's clear sailing.
