I think it's really dumb that the helm is Mail.

I'm a rogue and am currently leveling Mining as well, and would love to be able to use this helm. Being that it's Mail though, it makes it completely obsolete to me.

Just checked the official Patch Notes. There IS this:

A new recipe has been added for Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite, a cloth version of the Rocket Boots Xtreme. This pattern drops from Mechano-Lord Capacitus.

But no mention AT ALL about this change.

I smell BS.

If you want a tanking helmet, then take a look at https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=20640. Same stamina, some strength and defence rating.

As the name suggests, this is from the goblin engineer trainer... however.
The item itself doesn't say "requires goblin". This leads me to believe if you start as goblin, learn and make this, than switch to gnomish, you should still be able to wear it. (In theory).

You can get this schematic for free when you become a goblin engineer. If you chose gnomish engineering you're out of luck. The guy you get it from is in Gadgetzan.

Although I don't know about this particular schematic, at skill level 200 you may talk to the gnome near the Tram in IF if you are alliance and do the quest for whichever path you decide to take; gnomish or goblin engineering. After you complete the quest you obtain a membership card for the path you chose and then you can see the other schematics.

Today I had exactly 300 mining, no helmet or 5 to gloves and I found 12 arcane crystals in EP. I think im very lucky and I also think it doesn't matter if you have the +10. 2 crystals from 1 vein? zomg... 2 crystals from the very next vein?... never will happen again

it doesn't increase on the bar itself but if you look at your mining skill it says 198 (+5) or (+10) depending if you have both the enchant and the helm butI'm wondering how non mail wears can mine the 310 items since they can't get the helm

Atlast over lvl 20.
Not sure when blizzard nerfed the skills to maxium of 150 under lvl 20. and it's useless anyway, beacuse the Burning crusade has the skill to lv 375. and there is nothing that is minable over 375 so far i know.

Nub of course this this a twink item, frostreaver crown is a lvl 32 helm. Twink usually refers to a lvl 20 toon this has close to the same stats as the lvl 32 helm but can be used by a lvl 20

the helmet can be kinda useful if you miss a few points to be able to mine mithril/thorium but are in the areas with those nodes

Actually in AQ20 some nodes drop which require 305 mining (this helm or the +5 mining glove enchant to get em). Some even drop which require 310, so you basically need this helm. Which sucks since the damn thing is bop and I'm a gnomish not goblin engineer.

Well, I'm a rogue, so I can't wear it. (Which I think is stupid, if you have Engineering, 99% of the time you'll have mining). And +5 is stupid, methinks. Sure, you might miss it by a few marks, but then you spend 5 minutes and raise your minig skill.

Also, since I don't use mail, I havn't really 'kept tabs' on this, and I am not sure if that's good for a mail helment (and, to lazy to check up).

I see that this is mail - so as a dwarf rogue i'm guessing there is no way i can wear it? Shame as i am a miner and the stats are decent. There should be a version non mail/plate classes can use.

With so many cloth/leather engineering stuff, I am glad to be able to make one thing I will actually wear. Also, a mining helmet should be hard enough that it can save your head from a falling piece of rock, not likely to happen with cloth or leather, is it?

There's a lot of confusion about this currently. There are basically four types of items that can be made by engineers:

BoE items that can be used by any engineer and traded.
BoP items that can be crafted by a specific specialization, but used by any engineer
Items that require a specific specialization to use.
BoP items that can be crafted by an engineer, but can be used even after engineering is dropped

Gnomish Engineering allows you to craft these items:
