Highly usefull for tanks specially prot spec pallys cause at lvl 35 they can AoE grind where the spike makes a huge diference when 6+ mobs are hitting you

This item's spell effect, https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=7216, says "enchant item permanent". Does that mean it's an enchantment? Specifically, can I have a shield spike and a "normal" Enchanting profession enchantment placed on a shield at the same time?

Here is the run down of damage, and location from each type of Shield spike:

(8-12 damage), BoE world drop from Level 25-35 mobs, found easily on the AH.
(16-20 damage), BoE Rare world drop from level 35-45 mobs, found sometimes on AH
(20-30 damage), BoE rare world drop from level 58-60 mobs, also dropped by Master Elemental Shaper Krixix, and Emeriss, very rarely found on AH. Good luck getting this one.
(26-38 damage), bought from vendor after exalted status for Thrallmar/Honor Hold. Mats are expensive, and the rep grind is hard, so this items sells for a high price in AH, but is rarely found due to honor requirements needed to make it.

Anyone can use them, but you have to be a smith and have it to the required level to make them (with plans of course) and install them. Any smith can install for you.

iron spike have fixed damage (11-18) if im not wrong, and you need to be BS to install them

I'm 99.99% percent sure that a shield can only have one spike -or- one enchantment. So no, there is no way for it to "stack."

You don't have to be a blacksmith. You just need a blacksmith to install it (ie open up a trade window, put your shield in the "not to be traded" section, and wait for the blacksmith to do his thing). Same procedure as mithril spurs for mount speed increase.

Decided to mess around as prot pally, currently Im lvl 32, with 2 in reckoning and Blessing of Sactuary. I usually take 3-4 mobs, Judgement of Light to one, then seal of light and let my return dmg's kill 'em, pretty much never have to heal my self apart from Judgement/Seal of Light.

Check AH for the recipe. I got mine for 1.5g and I'm really only using it to lvl my blacksmithing quickly. You can learn it at 150 and it's red until 180 and uses minimal mats which makes Iron Shield Spikes great for a few BS levels.

It's rare to even see them in the AH for obvious reasons.
I've sold several of them on my own for 5-7g each, offering them free installation.
