The first big demon you see will be a named mob Dreadlord that you actually can't kill because its a projection of him and its very deceiving since all the mobs around him are humanoid and not demons, but keep moving farther into the Legion Camp and you'll find the demons you're looking for.

Seemingly low drop-rate, as I had to kill over 40 of them for the item to drop.

This drop rate is VERY low. I had to kill a lot of them. I would have skipped it as a broken quest but I needed it to progress my enchanting. It did after about 30 minutes drop the quest item. So stay with it.

It took me about 10 minutes to get the drop; it's worth noting that not all demons in Camp Chaos will drop it. The imps, hounds and felfires will not drop it.

You need to get Rune of Dominance from demons in Legion Camp: Chaos 38.7, 48.6, not all demons drop the item.

Looted mine from a Grim Inquisitor after about 15 kills of the mobs surrounding the large dark runes.

Try killing the Eredar Supplicants. I've had great success on several of my characters who are enchanters as have guildies killing those for this quest.

Killed between 20-30 mobs before mine dropped. i'm sure they will increase the drop rate in a patch, it seems unintended for it to be this low.

Drop rate is absurdly low for something gating a profession. I have been killing demons steadily for half an hour and have not gotten it yet.

Acquire a Rune of Dominance from the demons at Legion Camp: Chaos.

Basically - make sure you're in the right Legion Camp. The native mini map cuts off the last part of your location, so it's easy to move into a new area without realizing it - not sure if this would also be an issue with map add-ons.

I was killing and killing and killing to the point that I finished the last 40% I needed for the bonus objective in Faronaar. Then I noticed, even though I was still in the quest area, I'd moved into Legion Camp: Ruin in my hunt.

Legion Camp: Chaos is a specific area of Faronaar - namely around 38.7, 48.6. (Looking at the map w/o coords, it's on the eastern side of the island, kind of in the V the roads make.)

Additionally, looking at the "dropped by" on the quest item's page, there are only 6 mobs listed (might adjust over time as we get deeper into the xpan, not sure - listed as high/low as of 10/3/2016):

Mortiferous (rare elite, appears to be associated with a World Quest)
Vile Doombringer
Grim Inquisitor
Mo'arg Crusher
Soultorn Jailer
Eredar Supplicant

Since this item only drops for enchanters on this particular quest, the drop percentages listed on the item's page are lower than you should expect see out in the world.

Kill the Soultorn Jailers! I killed over 20 of the other mobs, moved over to the jailers and got it right away :)

Make your way to Faronaar (Legion Camp: Chaos), coordinates are around 39 49. Slay demons around it until you got Rune of Dominance dropped. Drop still low, so pull them all around.

Got mine from a supplicant or a crusher. Not sure which as I had two supplicants and a crusher beating on me.

This quest can be frustrating as the drop rate for Rune of Dominance is much lower than it probably should be (as of 7.1, it took around 40 kills to get it whereas it would seem more comfortable and balanced if it were closer to 10:1). Different people have had varying successes with various enemies; however, of the 40 I killed, it was pretty even between Eredar Supplicant, Soultorn Jailer, Mo'arg Crusher, Grim Inquisitor, and Vile Doombringer.

been out in the Legion Camp doing Strings of the Puppet Master for about 30 minutes. Slaying any Demon I could get my hands on. Eventually; I finally found a Rune of Dominance at cords 40,58 (Legion Camp: Ruin) off of a Jailor. It seems Blizzard may have lowered the droprate of this quest item However, thanks to previous comments, I was able to figure out what mobs dropped it, and which did not. Thanks guys :)

Defo agree with Keeskreet southern end and jailers did it me after running round killing mobs for ages.

Try the Soultorn Jailers farther at the southern end. Could have been luck but after 5 min of killing doombringers and Crushers I tried a Soultorn Jailer and got it.

After no luck killing over 50 mobs with the note attached to their name saying they dropped the item, I came here to find out what I was doing wrong. Read Kreetskeet's comment and flew south. Killed the first Jailer I saw. QUEST COMPLETE.

Description

I understand you were just here to deliver the vellums, but we could use your skills as a <class>. Our forces can only hold back the demon invasion, disallowing us to send anyone further into the enemy's camp.

The stronger of their forces stay in the back, commanding from a distance. They carry enchanted runes to keep control over the frontline demons.

I would very much like to study one of these runes. Please retrieve one for me, so we may learn from it and use it against the Legion.
