Rothek is standing just west of the Alter overlooking the cliff.

While waiting for a respawn, do not get frustrated and abandon the quest, you cannot pick it up again anywhere. If you have somehow abandoned the quest, just wait there until someone from your faction comes along and ask them to share the quest with you.

Rothek is a flying NPC. So mele dps may find this a bit of a challenge. He can be attacked from mele range, but he moves so much that unless you are packing multiple interrupts, you'll have to dance in and out of range to avoid some of the damage and recover some health.

He has 2 primary abilities which are interruptable.

Wind Blast does some damage, interrupt it or get out of the way.
Howling Gale does some damage, too, and slows you down. Interrupt or get out of the way.

Scorched Earth is telegraphed by the orange circles on the ground. Stay out of them (easy enough)

Hawkmaster Nurong did give me a heal or two, but nothing significant. Rothek will not kill Hawkmaster Nurong.

I thought it particularly hilarious when Hawkmaster Nurong looted Rothek's corpse at the end.

If you abandon quest, it can be picked up the next day in front of Sik'vess Lair.

As someone who was leveling a warrior alt today, I must say Blizzard really #$%^ the bed on this quest. !@#$er managed to do ~80% of my health while flying above me completely immune.

Really neat quest, seriously. No sarcasm here.

Weirdest thing happened with this quest. Obviously I got easily killed since I level for a warrior, but when I got back to my corpse and came back alive, Nurong was still fighting and Rothek was almost dead. I quickly healed myself and easily finished him..

During the Rothek fight, I noticed that Nurong was nowhere to be found.

Imagine my surprise when I found him on the way back, beating the ever-loving crap out of a Zandalari Warscout.

Ziggy29 said it best here in reply to TimbaLt for how to best complete this quest especially if your melee. I paraphrase: "Stay out of range of his 'Howling Gale' and let Nurong tank him. It takes a while but it works."

This worked incredibly well for me! It does take a little while, however it's simple, and it works well! It is also (imho) the best practical advice here on how to best complete this quest.

Kill Rothek with the aid of Hawkmaster Nurong.

Description

Hawkmaster Nurong has gone ahead to the northwest of Sik'vess to make sure the last mantid leader cannot escape.

Catch up with him and help him kill the mantid leader. Nurong will bring back the final crystal once you've aided him in this.
