The spearguards, and the 3 named mini-bosses all have a chance to drop the stones to open the cages around the camp.

The body of Lin Silentstrike can be found just south of the tent containing Ku-Tong, under the pinkish tree in the camp centre. He is sprawled on the floor outside of an open cage.

Interacting with him triggers a small set piece with Suna Silentstrike.

Most of the cages are open. Search for closed cages inside tents, dont bother with those outside, and you can complete the quest.

As of 22/06 this quest is bugged, but its needed to progress on the story.

The workaround is to find a empty cage and wait for it to spawn. I counted around 7mins between spawns.

Carioff is correct do not even bother with the cages outside, they may sparkle but you can not interact with them. The only cage I could find that works is in a hut in the northeast of this area, I camped it to get my 4. I was able to complete this quest as of 7/9

There are 2 other quests in this area along with this one and the freed prisoners will stay with you, they also do a decent amount of dps. It's a good idea to get the 4 prisoners first and then focus on the others.

You can also farm for a while as well if you like since the mobs drop a decent amount of cloth.

I found Lin's situation very mirroring of one particular case from vanilla. A spouse in despair sends you in search of the other spouse. Upon looking for the spouse among the living (by which I mean both the living Pandaren and the other people in /1) you finally find the missing spouse, lying beaten and dead on the ground, killed by a race of savage animal-people. Once the news breaks, the remaining spouse swears vengeance against the people who killed her partner.

Ahh, years and years ago the Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers series premiered on the Disney Channel in 1989. Nice to see that great cartoon get the nod. "When they're around, the chips are never down."

I found this to be an excellent experience spot if you're a rested tank class. I leveled my druid tank from 88-90 on this spot. Mobs on lvl 88 give about 45k xp, and on 89 about 42k xp.

Summarized, it takes about 7min to get 1m xp.

The trick is - rescue the 4 guys (to help with dps and kicks), and just taunt everything and tank aoe them. If you wish to stop, don't turn in the quest. Just abandon it and start again to have help.

Ofc, this makes sense if you're rested because of the massive bonus xp.

For people thinking about not turning the quest back in for future battles:

In case you might be curious about whether or not these four rescued rangers will fight with you on quests outside of Townlong Steppes, the answer is sadly no. After rescuing all 4 rangers, I purposely neglected to turn the quest in to test this theory. I flew to Jade Forest to accept a quest, and they didn't spawn after taxi dismount.

In testing further, I flew back to the Osul Marauders and Osul Spitfires in Fire Camp Osul where the quest giver, Ban Bearheart, is doing a hypnotized, yoga trance dance or something beside Suna Silentstrike. The stone keys will NOT drop if you already have finished the quest, so if you lost all your rangers and want to get them back, abandon quest and go see Ban Beartheart. You can always re-quest it.

After getting a couple rangers to fight with me a second time, I flew just north of Fire Camp Osul, but still well inside Townlong Steppes. Unfortunately, those dps rangers did NOT respawn after flight dismount. They were gone. Yup. They just disappear once you leave their fighting zone.

Additionally, even if you fly out of the fighting zone and lose your Longying rescued rangers, you DO still get credit for having rescued them and do not need to abandon.

I only went out of the way because of the highest possible value reward if it would have worked. Imagine 4 of them with us anywhere! Right? Wrong. :( these would be a treat as extra help when doing daily rep grinds such as with Klaxxi.

The good news is that if you are leveling, you can farm alongside the rangers for some massive quick experience. This is a great "party with someone" spot to level via farming.

The four rangers, apparently owe you your life. But if they have to step foot in the hood to defend you, fo'geddaboutit. And if you die, they ain't coming back, but they still give street cred in Ban Bearheart's book.

As a rogue who prefers to stealth about and pick targets strategically near other objectives, I find it necessary to mention that your rangers will aggro anything you run near, since they don't stealth with you. When they aggro things, it puts you in combat and the Marauder or Spitfire will run at you, not the rangers.

The way I handled this was releasing all 4 rangers, then deliberately getting into combat, then running off far enough to leash the mob I aggro'd. The rangers will then desawn, and you're free to go about your rogue-like agenda once again.

Update with recent experience:

* Any Osul Marauder or Osul Spitfire may drop the Stone Key, no need to farm the mini-bosses.
* The game mistakenly reports "this item has already been used" if you don't have a Stone Key. Used cages visually have the door open. All closed cages should release a ranger if you have a Stone Key in your inventory.

If you have flying you can come in from above and click the cage without agroing the nearby mobs. You won't get dismounted when clicking the cage.
