All you have to do is use the soul gem on Yenniku and it will stun him and put the filled soul gem in your bags.
Be careful though, because if your bags are full it will NOT put the soul gem in your bag, nor will it tell you that your inventory is full (the usual telltale sign that you need to clear some bag space). I used the gem on him 4 times before I realized what was going on.

If you kill him before getting his soul, leaving the area and coming back will cause him to respawn.

Random odd fact, this quest gives you Filled Soul gem when you use the Soul Gem on Yenniku.

Make sure your bags aren't full when you use the gem on him. I didn't realize my bags were full and was wondering why I didn't get credit.

Make SURE you have an extra space in your inventory, it doesn't just change the item you have, it adds a new gem instead of just filling up the gem you have so you have to have an empty space or else he just gets stunned and then despawns and you have to wait about 2 minutes for him to respawn.

Для воинов кв проще простого. Убиваем тролля в пещере рядом с Йенником после того как на вас начнёт агриться Йенник то ставим в стан и кастуем камень. Вот и всё.

While doing this quest it doesn't specify that Yenniku is actually "imprisoned" like it states in the quest info. So to use the gem on him you have to kill Ana'thek the Cruel first and then let Yenniku attack you. You don't have to kill him, just use the soul gem on him and boom. Finished.

If you use the soul gem before killing ana'thek, it will go on a 2 min cd and do nothing, unfortunately.

Just wanted to say that since the BFA prepatch till at least today the quest is bugged out and the item you need to use to "stun" the mob deals 4 times the hp of the poor guy in damage, instagibbing him.

I already sent a ticket to Blizzard Support , they say they are aware of the problem and will fix it soon ™ .

Tried to do this one on 8.0.1.... it just won't work with Yenniku, used the soul gem on Ana'thek the cruel and the quest was done. The game just log off a couple of seconds after, the quest was undone when I logged back in, I retried and it won't work anymore.

Just did it on BfA. First need to kill the big guy, and after that Yenniku will attack you - use the quest item on him while he does that. Worked for me!

This quest is broken as of today. I can't get the soul gem to work on Yenniku at all, and I've already verified that I have the space in my bags. I pull the guard and kill him first, then attempt to use the orb and it does nothing. I end up killing Yenniku. I've done this 6 times now.

I kill the big dude, I stun yenniku and use the gem on yenniku, he turns green, no credit. For some reason if you stun Yanniku with a stun skill instead of the gem it doesn't give credit. only use the gem. after you kill the big guy an yenniku aggros, target yenniku and use the soul gem.

For all you high-level characters perhaps trying for loremaster, if you kill Ana'thek with an attack you can stand back with, like a knife throw, or for example since I'm a death knight I used Death's Caress, you can walk up to Yenniku and nab him without accidentally killing him. Just a note.

After reading all the comments and ways to do this, I will provide the 100% sure way for high level people to complete this. Kill Ana'thek the Cruel from ranged. Make sure you don't aggro Yenniku. Walk up to Yenniku while pressing the orb and it will get done.

NOTE: You need to kill Ana'thek without killing Yenniku - so single target ranged or pull him away from Yenniku before attacking.

Description

I have reshaped the Mind's Eye into a Soul Gem. Its purpose is twofold: you must use it to stun Yenniku, and once stunned place it upon his head to entrap his soul.

My suspicions that I spoke of earlier were correct: the spirits tell me that Yenniku dwells not with Zanzil the Outcast, but within the Ruins of Zul'Mamwe, to the southwest. Once you have freed Yenniku's spirit, return to Nimboya at Grom'gol.
