They are looted from the various Kvaldir mobs and on occasion they can be found as small bundles laying around by mobs as well.

Survival Kits only need ropes and bombs? But what about the lamp oil?

As of today this item is picked up off the ground, NOT looted from mobs. I killed a lot of mobs before I started looking on the ground.

Blood Guard Toldrek, who offers the Hostile Waters (the next quest in the chain) was not present near Sizzlegrin after I turned in this quest and Come Prepared. Logging out and logging in seemed to fix the issue - Toldrek spawned and I was able to pick up the next quest.

The kvaldir in this quest have abilities that deal insane amounts of damage. Like of the 11,500 hp I have, on top of 500-1000 autoattacks, they can deal upward to 5500 damage with their carve ability at my current level of health.

Description

Survival kits never have any rope. It makes no sense! Rope and bombs, that's all they should store. The rest of this stuff is just a waste of space.

Except maybe the balloon. That's coming in handy right now.

I bet those Kvaldir have rope. They're always riding around in boats, tying knots, dressing in nets. Go take some rope from them! I must have it for our plan to work. It is non-optional.
