An efficient way to complete this is to escort Father Kamaros to safety by doing the quest I'm not dead yet!. You'll be jumped by a number of ghouls and the shards drop quite often.

There's a good sprinkling of the Spiked Ghouls in the Sanctum of Reanimation, a cave immediately below everyone's favorite death knight quest giver.

It's possible that this questline is a reference to Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" series, wherein the henchmen of the villain get additional powers from spikes that had been driven through their bodies.

if you not have done the quests of Darkrider Arly

then the quest item WILL NOT DROP after you dont her quests

and you have get Spill Their Blood then the ghoul start drop

DROP IT WITH each time you kill one spike one

For what it's worth. I was stuck at 132/140 quests and was trying to find what I was missing. I thought I had missed the Jagged Shard quest, and killed about 20 or so Spiked Zombies, without it dropping.

However, I hadn't started the quest Spill Their Blood and whilst I was doing it, the Jagged Shard dropped (first kill no less).

Might mean that the Jagged Shard only drops on that quest (or might have a hidden pre quest).

Just got the Jagged Shard and it didn't drop from the Spiked Ghouls until I had the quest - Spill Their Blood. So I'd say it's linked.

Edit - it also just triggered the Father Kamaros quest

Something wrong with the quest.. Said I had 10 but I see 9 in inventory and even though the ? is yellow it won't let me turn it in.

Description

You pulled this jagged, dark brittle shard from the body of a ghoul. The metal blade lacks a smooth edge, suggesting it was forged by an unskilled hand, or was broken from a larger piece.

You recall seeing similar shards embedded in the bodies of all the ghouls you've encountered at the Fleshwerks, leading you to wonder why their creators bothered to include the metal at all. Perhaps Crusader Olakin Sainrith would have some insight if you brought him the shards from several ghouls.
