You start the quest near 42,45.

1. Use totems on the fire and earth elementals surrounding the immediate area.
2. Use totems on air elementals near Netherwing Fields. 62,57
3. Use totems on water elementals near 47,22

Then you go up north to talk to the NPC. 54,23

He then asks you to use a whistle on whipper tubers. Note: A boar must be alive and near for it to work. They tubers are around 52,20

Then He asks you to destroy some eggs, They are just north of him down the cliff.

Once you have done those two quests he will ask you to find his 3 Sons.

The sons are located...

Artor: 30,50
Will ask you to slay the main mistress which is up the stairs and to the right. Then you will have to grind those demons to find a quest item. Then you will have to escort a NPC up the hill. Once up the hill the NPC will summon a non elite you must kill. Loot that mob and your 1/3rd done.

Gromtor: 45,24
Talk to him and he will ask you to find something. The item you need is locked randomly in a chest that the naga hold. Go kill some naga and they will randomly drop keys. Open the chests and eventually youll get the quest item.

Borak: 47,57
Asks you to do a multitude of things. The confusing ones involve finding an egg. Which there are some located in the bird people village just near the NPC. It will take quite some tries to find the correct one. He should then ask you to bring it to someone in Shattarah.
Also you will end up having to kill some blood elves Eclipse point for armor scraps. Then you will use a Blood ELf disguise to infiltrate the camp. Talk to the big guy at the back of camp. Careful the firehawk beasts see threw the disguise and if you get knocked out of it you must return to the SOn to get a new costume.

Then he will ask you to kill an Elite. This elite is 61 and can be killed with a tank, healer, and dps. Once you kill this Dual Thunderfury badass you fight his pet. Although the item you need is on the guy.

After killing this guy return to the son. Then return with all 3 of the quests completed to the father at 54,23.

He will then tell you to fight the big green golemagg.

Using the stone of damnation head to 45,46 (the place you started with the purple aura). Using the stone at the altar will spawn the boss, and the 3 Sons will fly in to help. Talk to them when ready and they will begin the fight. NOTE: These 3 sons will tank the boss pretty well as long as you dont pull aggro to early. The boss is a straight forward fight. You basically need to do 300k damage in a few minutes before the NPC's die, otherwise you'll end up tanking. Can be done with a decent 5man group.

After you finish this quest go talk to khadgar in Shattrath. He will tell you to talk to the Naaru in the center of Shattrath. This then leads to these three quests:

It seems that if a group kills him and any of the NPCs live, the quest will not work properly until the NPCs despawn. Takes ~10 minutes before they go away, so sit back and find something else to do or chat for a bit if you have several groups attempting him in a row

I'm on that quest with a friend (both lvl 70 hunters) but got server down..(Bs) Just before we could finish and get a group. But its a very nice bow so well do it:) and what key quest i get after compleating this line? to a heroic instance or what?

ok, I don't know if Blizz has changed the fight at all, but my group just attepted this, and we wiped pretty fast. In my expirience, the 2 sons and Torn-heart, die pretty quickly. they didn't seem to be elite anymore either...maybe thats a difference. The two main abilities Cyrukh seems to use is an Infernal Flamestrike which hit for about 1200-1500dmg and his trample ability which hit for around 2500-3500dmg. Both of these figures i've taken from my pally. from what i can tell, the trample hits everyone in melee, and the flame strike is against anyone in combat with him, so it helps to stay spread out. Granted my party wasn't the best make up, but i think a couple of mages/warlocks would be a great help for the fast dps. a couple of fellow guildies, hanging around to help out is never a bad thing either if you can manage it :) I'll try it again soon with a differnet group and post my results.

Cyrukh's primary attacks are physical, meaning they can be mitigated by armor. With 20k armor, he was hitting for between 600 and 1300. He also has a ~1.2k knock away that reduces aggro on the target knocked away, and a ~3k trample that hits anyone in melee range. His final ability is a targeted AoE ignite (fire-based) that ignites an area of ground around a player. The AoE damage can be minimised by spreading out so only one person gets hit at a time, and by moving quickly out of the ignited area when it does hit.

In my experience, having a well-geared tank hold aggro on him is far more reliable than trying to let the NPCs tank him. It was also my experience that losing aggro to a knock-away caused Cyrukh to focus on one of the NPCs rather than my group mates, but don't rely on it!

Just did the entire quest chain in level 68. As Marshkid2 said at the end, you do get a mail from Khadgar after doing this, but when I got to Shattrath, Khadgar only had a white "!" over his head so it seems you have to be 70 or 69 to get the attunement to The Eye in Tempest Keep

It feels like Cyrukh lives forever, he has about 350k hp.
The npc's do tank, and they do it well but don't do too much dps or you will get aggro. this happened to me once.

The npc's died when cyrukh was down to somewhere between 20 and 30%, at that point he still has about 70-100k hp left so it is a good thing if your healer has most of his or her mana left.

Very difficult if you are only 5 people, 2-3 people helped us out a bit.

I instructed the tank (a feral druid) to DPS in bear form and to only taunt if a damage class took aggro. It worked very well and we downed him easily with the suggested five players. I (healer) came out of it with half a mana bar left despite the NPCs dying at about 10%.

One of the easiest quest chains to ever exist! lol

Dunno what the talk about "extremely" long is, unless those that say that have no patience what-so-ever. It is all in one zone, and the only time you need a group is for Ruul and Cyrukh. MAYBE for the Veneratus part as well, but he is non-elite... only problem with Veneratus is that the hunter spirit seems to agro the demons from a good distance away, meaning more adds for you to fight.

Entire quest chain completed in 4 hours total as protection warrior. Thanks to those that helped me with Ruul and Cyrukh. Rest was solo. Now for the 3 Trials of Heroic instances.... hmmmm =)

As of patch 2.1.2 you no longer have to do any quest to be attuned for Serpentshrine Cavern or The Eye. Thus, the only thing required for getting COT attunement would be killing Vashj and Kael'thas.

Take note you are unable to heal the NPC's that help you fight so having a tank and healer for this is a must.

The boss can definitely be 3-manned. We did it with S+S Warrior + Holy Priest + BM Hunter. None of the NPCs died, priest was low on mana but not OOM, hunter was OOM at the end (pet survived), and the warrior was never at the edge of dying.

Just do it as described above, let the NPCs tank for a while, their survivability is very good, and your tank chimes in at your discretion. Avoiding the fire at the last phase of the fight is no problem, simply move out of it.

we did this with 1 shadowpriest, 3 BM hunter, 1 affl lock and 1 demon lock

3 died when he was almost dead, but we got it done and 1 npc lived. So no tank or healer needed if u have the right dps

just finished the entire chain today on my 68 hunter, got the bow and its brilliant. Was using the Hemet gun before it and the bow is just way better....definitely worth the time spent doing the quests :)

all the quests except the ones involving elites were soloable and i managed to rack up a lot of exp while doing all the quests too. its worth the time spent

Decided to two man this to see if I could. I two boxed a Marksman Hunter and a Resto Druid. Hunter is in a mix of S2/S3 Arena gear with a Scorpid pet, Druid in full S3 (1785 healing). Buffed, the scorpid had 10429 armor and it got obliterated really fast. Even if all I did was focus all my effort on the druid spamming heals on it, not being able to move it reliably out of Cyrukh's aoe fire spell doomed it from the start and as such it really seemed like a waste of mana to keep trying so I let it die.

I only lost one of the NPCs however and kinda tanked it with the hunter the rest of the way. Hunter has 7258 armor and was getting meleed for 1.5-2.2k damage, it wasn't pretty but it seems a lot of the major damage comes from his aoe spell that he tosses instead and I could alt tab heal through the damage if I moved the hunter out of the aoe.

The fight only lasted about 5 minutes and it only took about 75% of the druid's mana bar, didn't need to innervate or pot. From what I can tell, seems to me you're better off tanking it yourself and having the NPCs help on the damage than letting the NPCs die. I would have been happy to let the NPCs tank it but they can't be healed so that was out.

I threw the cipher of damnation away (the item itself), because it was in my bag for ages. I killed Cyrukh and completed it but I couldn't deliver the quest because I didn't have the item. Could anybody tell me if I need to abandon and redo the quest, or can I get the cipher from some person?

Two manned with druid/warrior, both in pvp gear. Let the npc's tank until they either die or the warrior picked up aggro, then just spammed heals on him until it went back to the npc's. Easy enough fight, but I died at 5% and had to run back to turn it in :(

I managed to 2-man this quest as a Resto Shaman with a Subtlety Rogue. The trick was to keep the rogue above 50% at all times, since Cyruckh can hit relatively hard. It took a little under five minutes to take him out. The three NPCs that help you, deal quite a bit of damage and heal each other (since you can't heal them). Just keep totems up at all times, and drop your Fire Elemental for a little added DPS.

Solo'd this quest today on 70 partial-t6 surv hunter. I MD'd my pet and had growl OFF (so the NPCs would take aggro after a little while), and went balls out. Once I pulled aggro, I deterrenced until it ran out. I feigned death, readiness, MD my pet again (for good measure? meh). Then went all out, deterrenced when I pulled, popped a mana pot and continued to DPS, feigning when pulling aggro after deterrence used. Torn-heart was low health at the end, but I got him down.

A word of advice - if a group has just completed this quest before you (or failed it for that matter), and Oronok and his sons are lying dead somewhere, DO NOT START THIS QUEST! You will be able to summon Cyrukh, but unable to go any further because Oronok and his sons will refill to no HP but remain dead, thus leaving the quest unfinishable.

Well, almost all his sons. Gromtor stood up and started aggroing earth elementals. Heh.

I think Oronok does heal the one being attacked. Cause I was healing the warr tank as a feral druid and the HoT's werent fast enough. But when he got to really low health before I could get in a regrowth, he was back at full health.

So yeah the healer doesn't need to be really well geared etc

A guildie (70 warlock) and me (70 Survival Hunter) were able to 2-man this quest on our second try. The first try was unbuffed and once we picked the DPS up to full output on the 2nd try it was successful. The NPCs will tank the boss for you as long as you can take him down quickly enough. I think we averaged around 1300dps (total for the pair of us) during the fight.

duo'd this boss today (dual box actually)

An average geared prot paladin (17k armor, 12k hp. 89% avoidance, 458def)
And fairly geared druid (who I never spent talents points after 3.02 so has no spec lol) 1180 spell power, 9k mana 440mp5 so those are stats without talents at all.

Couple times he had some pretty hard hits in a row but I never dropped below 50%, fight took a couple minutes.

Soloed this today on my 70 Warlock. Went as 21/40 Demo spec (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IdxMdhr0oZ0gfzsgoqcsM) using talents mainly geared towards having an awesome VW tank. Worked perfectly until I killed Cyrukh and got no credit for the quest upon realising I probably didn't do enough damage compared to the NPCs due to me trying to keep my VW up most of the time. Now begins the long wait to get through to a GM as I apparently have broken the quest and Oronok won't come back to help me try again :(

For players attempting to solo this quest, there appears to be a minimum DPS requirement in order to complete this quest. Like many group quests where NPCs assist you, it's required that either you do the most damage or at least tag the mob. Losing aggro could be yet another reason for this oddity, the knockback could push you off the boss' threat list.

Recently soloed this on my level 76 prot warrior, but got no credit for the kill.
While quite doable, I think I'll level and gear up some more before just to make sure.

Ok folks.. Let me bring some reality checks for everyone who takes this quest truly understands the lore/insight on how truly long it is and how the "Entire" chain begins and ends. I noticed the link and some though GREAT input on the chains but there not the entire chains accordingly. They leave out where its supposed to be picked up, and in truth most of the time you "cannot" pick up the quest due to not doing the prior quest chains so if your on this quest below is what you may want to do or of course quit at any moment. But the story doesn't end here clearly.

Now mind you "MUST" complete the above 3 Parts & also turn them into Oronok before carrying forward.

1 Quest
The Cipher of Damnation

Now also as mentioned before you will get a letter in the mail from
Khadgar to go to Shattrath and speak with A'Dal.

This has unlocked your future chains not mentioned linking them together is what I think people should understand the can of worms your about to open:

(4 Part Chain)
4 Trials total however only 3 can be accepted at first. They are 3 seperate quest given all at once so you can carry all 3 and complete and run back to turn in all together. The 4th is after the original 3 are completed.
The first 3 are:
Trial of the Naaru: Tenacity (HEROIC MODE) - Arcatraz of Tempest Keep. - Note: Here your saving the mage who will be friendly but you kill this boss: Harbinger Skyriss
Trial of the Naaru: Strength (HEROIC MODE) - Warlord Kalithresh (Steamvault) & Murmur (Shadow Labyrinth) in any order but both in Heroic Modes.
Trial of the Naaru: Mercy (HEROIC MODE) - Shattered Hand Executioner (Shattered Halls of Hellfire Citadel)

Now before we get to the fourth part do note after completing the initial 3 there is a mini chain the unlocks and continues on. You can have both the 4th trial and this chain at the same time:

Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon (Raid) - Magtheridon

(2 Part Chain)
The Mark of Vashj - You talk to: Skar'this the Heretic (He is only found in Heroic Mode and is after the first boss) in The Slave Pens (Heroic Mode)
The Cudgel of Kar'desh
- Gruul the Dragonkiller (Gruul's Lair) & Nightbane (Karazhan)
Do note they can be completed in any order for the 2 dungeons on the last part of this quest chain.

OK I'm a lvl 80 prot Pally and I finished the whole chain except fighting the elite...I had the cipher put in the bank for a while. I just got it out today and went to do the quest. I used the cipher at the Altar of Damnation, the 3 brothers came and helped me fight the elite. I just did this twice and didn't complete the quest. The first time I held aggro pretty much until half way when he kicks me backwards...it took me about 30 secs to get aggro back. Same second time...I held aggro almost the entire time, killed the elite but did not complete the quest. I've submitted a ticket to a GM..but this is very aggravating.

I just soloed the guy (lvl 79 BM hunter). The NPCs were holding aggro until one point when my pet did... then my pet died and i ended it with the NPCs tanking. I thought the quest didnt work, but the ? mark showed up... so i did complete the quest after all!

Just solo'd on 80 MM hunter. Start event, stay back with NPCs, let boss walk up the hill to NPCs who run and tank him. Apply Hunter's Mark, and apply a sting (Serpent for me) - any of your big damage shots will pull aggro, so leave them out. Sting and Autoshot will eventually pull aggro - just FD. As soon as NPCs have aggro again, back up and apply another sting. By the time you pull aggro again, your FD should be off CD. Rinse and repeat. Once he is within Killshot range, hit him with everything and finish him off.

I've got a problem with this quest. I've downed Cyrukh 3 times now, but i still can't deliver the quest. It seems like it doesn't recognize me killing it orso. I'm a 70 pally and solo-ed this 1st time in retri spec. The other 2 times i did as prot which was more easy: grabbing aggro from time to time to not let the tanking npc die.
After the first time i killed it and couldnt deliver. My thoughts were like.. hmm maybe cyrukh was attacked first by the npcs and therefore it wasnt my kill or like with mobs that are attacking npcs, that when u dont grab aggro u cant loot em. So 2nd try i made sure these things were not the problem, but after killing it again i still wasn't able to loot/deliver.
So i thought maybe its a bugg since a new patch orso, but thats a fail 2 seeing qillerdaemon his comment of 2 days ago.
I've no clue what the problem is at this time... any of you guys had the same thing?

Yesterday I've dismissed my quest and reaccepted it, done cyrukh once more... but still failed:( So i asked a m8 to help me out and see if it works. With the help of my friend i was able to loot and deliver. So there are 2 options which caused this:
1. it's required to be in a group
2. it's required to do more than a certain amount of damage (more than i could do in solo)

i'm a happy man now:), hope this will help people with the same problem.

As of 14 Nov 2010 you DON'T need to be in a group to get credit. I'm a level 77 BM hunter in rubbishy greens who soloed the entire line. I was able to turn in and get full credit for the kill (which was quite straightforward despite my fears).

The above is true. Soloing this is not possible at this time. Well, maybe it will get fixed someday.
At least it's not a needed quest for the Loremaster title.

Ok, as of the first week of October, this quest now fully works. The strategy is the same as before, let the NPC's start the battle and the group can join in as needed. It's nice they got this fixed as it was the closer to a fairly long quest chain.

I just solo'd this is a level 70 balance druid. I, too, was confused as to why I could not attack the summon monster. Then I realized I had to talk to the 3 NPCs behind me to tell them I was ready to go. During the fight, the NPCs held aggro the whole time, despite my almost constant casting. They died by the time Cyrukh the Firelord had roughly 20k health, but I easily finished him off. Note: even though the NPCs died, I could still complete the quest just fine.

Quest was bugged for me. I couldn't figure out how to kill the monster, then came here and read that I need to talk to Oronok and his sons... well, I discovered that they're dead on the hillside, and so I can't speak to them. It looks like I'm stuck.

EDIT: I came back about 15 minutes later and the quest was then possible to complete. I should note that the three orcs took about a full minute to show up after the monster was summoned.

This quest can bug out pretty easy... I called the firelord, saw the brothers and asked them to start. Then I solo'd the guy as a 69 prot pally(taking aggro the whole time so the brothers would live and it was easy with WoG and an occasional FoL). Then I went back to the Earthmender Torok and the brothers said stuff to him blah blah. After they left the quest log still said I hadn't killed the boss and I couldn't interact with Torok.

So I called in the Firelord again, this time I took the first shot at him to "tag" him or whatnot as my kill. After he died, the brothers were just standing there on the hillside doing nothing. I called in the Firelord one more time and the brothers just stayed on the hillside... Grr...

I dropped the quest, flew back up to the giver, came back down and had to wait for the Firelord to despawn. Tried it again once brothers and Firelord had despawned, got the same crap with brothers just standing there and no completion in quest log.

I did it one last time... this was gonna be it... Dropped, re-accepted, waited for all despawns. Then I called in the Firelord, turned off Righteous Fury and let the brothers take the hits. They all died off when he was still at about 105k health. I tanked him the rest of the way down and voila! When he died it tracked in my quest log.

Lesson of the day, don't try to be a hero. I believe that at least one of the brothers *has* to die in order to complete this quest. To be on the safe side, let them all go down.

Solo'd this as a 70 Retribution Paladin.

When I saw his HP (around 350k) I thought surely a group was needed, but attempted it anyway. It actually wasn't too difficult overall. He has a knockback, but not that often. As long as you keep the aggro balanced between yourself and the tanking NPC you can take him down.

He didn't hit as hard as I expected. Every once in a while he would ping me for 3k-4k, but not really one after another after another.

I just let off my big damage moves and let the NPC take aggro when I was taking too much dmg. Once healed and ready I started hitting hard again, taking back aggro until I needed a break...rinse...repeat.

My gear is full Brutal Gladiator's DPS set.

Just did this twice, once before reading the comments, again after. I can confirm that if any of the brothers are surviving after the fight you're not going to get credit for the kill. My assumption is that they do more damage (at least than me at 70) so they get the credit. I did solo this as a prot pally. After letting the brothers get aggro I was slowly dps'd w/o righteous fury watching omen. He still had about 200k left when they all died. It was long but he's not bad as long as you get out of the pbae (green consecration effect) fast. I got credit for second kill.

So when I called the Fire Lord, He appeared in the Fel Pits, and I saw the brothers fly around, but I couldn't attack the Fire Lord. I even abandoned the quest, called him multiple times and waited for him to despawn before trying again.

After you complete the quest, a letter will be sent to you from Khadgar. This letter will explain the fire symbol, and request your presence in Shattrath City.

Tried solo him with my lvl 70 warlock, got him down to 37% hp, and then he attacked me. 2 hits and I was dead. While this is a quest for 5 players, you can easily do it with just your self and a priest for healing.

I have read several posts on this quest and wanted to relay my experience. I had finished the Shadow of the Betrayer (complete 90 quests) achievement long ago, but had never finished this quest line. Most of the posts state not to hold aggro and imply the brothers must die. I found this to be inaccurate for a high level toon. I completed this with a fairly well-geared (392 Ilvl) 85 DK, kept aggro the entire time and all three brothers were alive at the end.

I believe if you do at least half of the damage you will get credit. So if your a lower level or you don't feel you have the dps needed to do half the damage, you may want to try the strategy of letting the brothers hold the aggro. Also, the brothers didn't attack, I had to initiate combat. I wasn't in a group either, so any you may want to take that advice with a grain of salt. Blizz may have tweaked this quest in order negate the confuson it had caused many folks, but this is only speculation. I did have to wait a minute or two for the brothers to show up at the alter. After speaking to one of them it was fairly routine.

I hope this helps anyone trying this finish this quest line out. If you like unique looking weapons such as myself, the 2H axe is well worth getting.

Just solo'd Cyrukh as a level 70 Holy Priest. It was tough, I had to retry it a few times but eventually I got it. Here's my strategy for any Holy Priests who might want to solo it:

- Make sure you have your Inner Fire and Fortitude buffs on you.
- Chakra: Chastise helps a lot as it reduces the mana cost of Smite by 75% and you're going to do a whole lot of smiting in this fight.
- Have Power Word: Shield, Fade, Prayer of Mending and Guardian Spirit within close reach of your fingers.

Activate Power Word: Shield and go all out on the smiting while you're invulnerable. Right when the shield ends, cast Fade to lose aggro and let the NPCs tank the boss. Smite slowly so you don't get aggro back until the cooldown on either Shield or Fade finishes. Once you have Shield or Fade ready, unleash all the Smites you can to get aggro back and do as much damage as you can.

Try to keep aggro on you as long as possible as it gives the NPCs time to heal (at least one of them can heal, I don't know if all of them can, couldn't see well enough) so they can tank longer when it's their turn again. Quickly alternate between Smite, Shield, Fade and spamming the hell out of Flash Heal on yourself as you see fit to manage aggro between you and the NPCs. If you get scared, a quick Guardian Spirit can save you by making your heals 60% more effective on yourself. Hit Prayer of Mending whenever you get a chance. Make sure you stay out of his AoE fire attack, it's annoying to constantly have to move but it makes it easier to manage your health.

It's a hard fight but it's possible. A little bit of luck might have helped me too.

Soloed this as a 69 Brewmaster Monk. I basically had to just Keg Smash and auto attack while spamming Healing Sphere to keep myself alive while letting the NPCs do the brunt of the DPS. Once he was nearly dead, I used Touch of Death and the quest completed.

I held aggro instead of helpers so it was a close one.
Allow helpers to take the aggro and it should be easy.

I read the cipher, he appears... and nothing happens. Not even allowed to attack him. Dropped the quest, went and got it again, logged off/on... ? Am I missing something?

... yup! Gotta turn around, there are 3 guys that (eventually) appear to help fight, you need to talk to the middle one to start the fight.

Currently, warlocks on the fel green fire quest can't complete several of the steps of this quest chain due to buggy phased zones all over Shadowmoon Valley. Awaiting GM ticket as we speak.

For those of you who may be at max level and cannot find the quest The Hand of Gul'dan above the head of either Earthmender Splinthoof (Horde) or Earthmender Sophurus (Alliance) you have either already completed the quest or...you may be like me.

After much frustration and over an hour of looking on the internet and flying around Shadowmoon Valley doing random quests it finally occured to me that as I was leveling up I may have started the quest and decided for one reason or another to stop the chain.
Sure enough as I tracked down the quest line NPC's I found Oronok Torn-heart sitting there with a big fat ! sitting above his head. This is what I get for not eating my vegetables.

Here is a list of all the NPC's along the way so you can save some time tracking down your place in the quest chain:
Earthmender Splinthoof (Horde) or Earthmender Sophurus (Alliance)
Earthmender Torlok
Oronok Torn-heart
From here the chain diverts off into 3 paths involving 5 NPC's:
1. Artor, Son of Oronok

I know there are others who had the same problem as me so I hope helps them.

If you are having trouble with this quest being "bugged". (It's just not very well scripted)
Try these steps:

-Cyrukh must be despawned. (Much of the time players summon him then think the quest is bugged and then leave him there) You must wait around 10 minutes for him to despawn and make sure nobody else uses the item to summon him during this time.

-Once everything is clear, and reset. Use the item to summon.

-Gul'dan will summon him, and then after a few seconds the brothers will come in on flying mounts. (this is where people mess it up) You must wait for them to land, and then you have to talk to the middle one to start the encounter, otherwise Cyrukh will not be attackable.

-They will run up the side of the hill to the right (make sure you kill the earth spirit there so they aren't stopped) Once they get up there, Cyrukh will face them and become attackable.

-Quest will complete, enjoy

The quest "I Was A Lot Of Things..." is bugged currently 1-31-16 and no longer able to be completed essentially breaking the chain for the Cipher of Damnation.

When you stand on the tubers and blow the whistle nothing happens. after a few moments the tuber vanishes and never gives credit for the 10 you need. Now I cannot get my green Axe of Legion recolor >.<.

As of patch 7.0 you no longer have to choose the item you want the most from this quest but instead you get the most appropriate item for your class/spec. But you will get all the other weapons into your appearance book though.

Quick guide to get ALL the transmogs that the The Cipher of Damnation offers. Make sure you do this quest with a Warrior to get ALL the transmogs in one fell swoop.

Doing this quest line and completing The Cipher of Damnation with, say, a Mage, will only award the transmogs the Mage class can use. So a Warrior would be best but in the least, use a Hunter, which would only exclude Maces (normally - yes, this quest does not offer maces).

Even after 7.0, you are only awarded the weapons appropriate to your class/which your class can use. So use a Warrior to complete the quest to get ALL transmogs this quest offers as a reward.

There are 25 quests and it takes about an hour (give or take with minor distractions and/or mote farmers during the Spirits quests).

I did this whole questline in the new 7.3.5 leveling changes. I was unable to solo this boss because he hits way too hard. I even tried to kite (I was a hunter) but he has a low kiting distance before he evades. I find this really stupid considering all these quests were meant to now be soloable but ALL of Shadowmoon Valley has not been changed. It has many elite quests which are quite hard so unless you have a friend I wouldn't bother doing Shadowmoon Valley at all while questing. A waste of time.

It will take a moment for the Torn-heart family to fly on on wyvern once you have spawned the boss for this quest. Once they land at the altar, talk to them to begin the encounter. They might scurry up a hill and start attacking an earth elemental on the side, but once they get in place the boss will become attackable. You may need to kite the boss over to the three friendly npcs to trigger them to join the fight.

As of 8.3 at lvl 79, doing this as a party of an assassin rogue and destruction warlock worked out just fine- I had to keep my voidwalker topped off on HP, the kill did take a few minutes, but still doable in a small group!

In patch 9.0.5 my wife and I were able to do this final quest at lvl 38 as two demon hunters, one tank one dps. Doable, but pretty rough! I was dps and each stomp attack the boss did shaved 20% off my hp. I died but my wife the tank was able to take him down with the help of the npcs.

Stay close to the helpful npcs, they do a fair bit of damage to help!

DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE! YOU CANNOT CHOOSE FROM THE REWARDS... THEY ARE CLASS LOCKED, DID THIS ON HUNTER AND ONLY GOT THE BOW, I COULDNT CHOOSE! DID THE WHOLE CHAIN FOR THE TMOG AND I WANTED THE AXE, EVEN AS SURVIVAL HUNTER I COULDNT CHOOSE THE AXE, GG! MAKING THE QUEST AGAIN WITH WARRIOR. YOU CAN PICK A CLASS HERE IN WOWHEAD ABOVE TO SEE WHAT REWARDS YOUR CLASS WILL BE ABLE TO CHOOSE FROM, DIDNT KNOW THIS! :((((

EDIT!: I didnt notice anything until i logged on my warrior and was going to transmog and the outfit was set to the one with the 2H axe from this quest. Finishing the quest gives you all other weapons you cant pick in your collection!

Description

How many times has this spell been used in the history of our worlds? Undoubtedly, its power for destruction is unparalleled.

What you must do now is take the cipher, now made whole, and read from it at the Altar of Damnation - where the memory of Gul'dan stands.

What you will see once the words are uttered are the memories left imprinted upon the land. Stand your ground and await the coming of Cyrukh.
