This is a part of the Breaching the Tomb achievement, so it'll be available as part of the quest series that continues every week.

This one is available from Tuesday the 23rd of May.

The quest on Wowhead (currently) says you have to kill 5 rare elites, but in actuality, you need to kill only 3. It also rewards 3000 Nethershard.

Rare Elite Demon Commanders are noted on your map with a Green Skull when up, so they are pretty easy to find. While the skull is up, a demon will respawn fast. So if you arrive too late and find the demon dead, you only need to wait a minute for it to respawn, if you map still displays the skull.

Kills of a rare only count the first time. It is not a rare for you when it respawns after you kill it, so you need to kill 3 different ones.

Overall, this quest isn't the worst in the series. The only problem you may run into is less than three being up. It's possible for none to be up.

Edit:
As noted by Lenair and Sipder, you need to loot the rare for it to count.
Earlier, completing World Quests was also giving credit, but this has been hotfixed.

OK, I'm a patient person however...I waited until May 11-no quest. Then I waited until May 23, no quest, when is this quest supposed to drop. I am working on my Breaching the Tomb achievement and getting no where fast. Please advise a dependable date when this will be available. I also need Illisthyndria for The Naxt achievement. Can anybody give me a straight answer?

If you already killed 3 rare elites in Broken Shores before accepting this quest, just relog and the quest will be flagged as completed.
EDIT: it seems that for this to work, you have to kill at least one rare after accepting the quest.

Don't know why others are getting downvoted for this. I completed the Pet Battle wq on the Shore as well as handing in 100 nethershards for the cache key and they both counted towards the weekly. I didn't have to wait for the elites after killing just the one. I got the whole thing done in about 10 minutes.

Seems a bit buggy. I had cleared out all the rares before getting this quest but found that yes, the WQs do count. However this only gave me 2/3 (no more left) so I hearthed back to Dalaran to hit up Light's Hope to select a new trait for my weapon and now I have 0/3. Relogging didn't complete it for me so here I sit at 0/3.

No big deal, this is an easy one to finish but I'd recommend saving elites or making sure you have at least 3 world quests up on Broken Shore.

If you killed 2/3 rares because there was no more on map,and you log out,as i did yesterday,i got 0/3 rares when i loged on today. idk if that had anything to do with server restart but try to find all 3 before you log out.

Completing world quests no longer gives credit. Pet battles no longer give credit.
Look for the little demon symbols o the map - I have included a screenshot to show what the symbols look like. They may be in a different place but will always signify where the 'rare elite' is that you need to kill for this quest.

The easiest way to do this is via looking for group as there are probably lots of other frustrated people also wanting to be done with this quest.

Rare mobs, which are summoned using Nether Portal Disruptor, will not count towards the quest's completion.

If you see rares marked with a green skull on the zone map, good. But even rares, which are not marked, will count towards the quest's completion. You just cannot kill the same rare twice and progress the quest the same day.

I've done this quest across 4 alts now and whenever this quest a accepted, the number or rares on the broken shore always seems to drop down to 2, whereas before there could be 6 on the map it's telling me about.

The mobs don't have to be marked as "Rare" to count. any 50mil hp named elite will count towards it, so if no skulls appear on your map, just fly around where the rares spawn and see if ones there.

I might have missed it but I don't see if anyone confirmed if you can complete this quest in a raid. Just to ease your concerns (because we all know that 9 times out of 10 you can't complete quests in a raid) yes, you can be in a raid and get credit. I created the raids myself and got 3 for 3.

An easy way to get this done is to look for a group with the Group Finder (Premade Groups --> Custom). If you're in a raid group, you still get quest credit.

This Is The Worst Quest in the game. I accepted the quest and there are No green skulls on The Broken Shore map I even checked for hours and they were still not showing. does anyone know when the respawn times are?

If no green skulls are showing on the map, fly around and see if any of the named mobs are up, just not as rares (silver dragon on the name plate). Even if they have the gold dragon around their name plate instead of the silver they will still count, as long as you haven't yet killed them that day. (For the most part; the Imp Mother just didn't for my Warrior where she has for all my other alts, but that may be because the Break the Garrison WQ was active, not sure). Often times there will be several of these mobs up at their spawn points as non-rares, and this will save you waiting for green skulls to pop. They give the same loot (beacons, war supplies etc) as when they have a green skull on the map.

ok so i had 6 skulls on the map, after accepting the quest it despawns everything and i have 0 and even flying around there was nothing up, same thing happened to the treasure chest quest, everything despawned, i've done these questline of a few alts and the most time is wasted on these parts when things reset for no reason.

I can confirm that if no rares with the silver dragon around the name plate are up. Check the spawn points for the same mob with the gold dragon around the name plate. They do count towards this quest.

Well, I finally found a use for the druid's Thornstalk Barbs. Can root the elites in place while you attack from afar. It will fight your bodyguard who will keep respawning.

Prediction: while on the previous quest, Relieved of Their Valuables, you will find all the rares. While on this quest, you will find hordes of hidden wyrmtongue caches for the previous quest.

As someone who's working on this quest on their 6th toon, I can definitively say that the moment you pick up this quest all the rares despawn, because that's the only way to explain how all the rares you see right before you pick it up suddenly disappear.....

If you have problems killing the rares solo:
There is a daily quest on the broken shore called: Brute Wrangling.
You sit on the back of a giant Naga and the aim is to kill other Naga.
You can however also kill the rares who spawn in this area... Easy peasy... :)
Just hop off when the rare reaches death and finish him/her off while in your own form.

If you have noticed that once you accept this quest all of the bosses disappear off your map, try this:

I have not been able to test this 100% yet, but I tried something today that worked. I found a wyrmtongue chest and looted it. After I did that, a boss magically appeared on my map. I flew over and downed him, back to 0 bosses up. I found another wyrmtongue chest and looted it - magically another boss appeared!

If you're having trouble finding any, and don't want to wait, try looting wyrmtongue chests! And comment here if it worked for you.

What mental genius at Blizzard thought it was a good idea to put Take Out the Head... four quests AFTER Mark of the Sentinax where we need to farm these rare elites to get the beacons in order to get the Marks. Seriously, anyone with half a brain would think, "Let's put these two together since killing the rare elites awards the beacons."

Who wants to bet that idea was put to the table and someone said, "No, that makes too much sense. Put it after when they no longer need them." Then the room fills with laughter and it's agreed, put it after.

It is worth noting that a "Rare Elite" will always be a rare elite, no matter if it is shown on the map as a skull or not.
That means Salethan the Broodwalker, for example, counts towards the quest progression wether or not it is marked as "Rare" the moment you strike her down.

This has saved me a lot of time since on my main I had to pointlessly wait for a Skull to show up on the map when I could have just gone for a walk and slay any lvl113Elite on the Shore.

This quest is so cancerous! I have 2 of every class one alli/horde..so that is 24 characters have done this quest the rare mobs suddenly despawn or I phase not sure what but god..

To summarize and clarify:

1) Most of the mob icons will disappear when you accept this quest. Don't panic. "An illusion?" - they still spawn (you just have to find them), and killing them counts for the quest.
2) Killing the same mob twice does not give credit. They have to be unique kills.
3) Depending on your class and ilvl (which may be low if you're trailblazing for your Class Mounts), you're definitely going to need some help taking these guys down. 53M+ HP is a lot for a relatively fresh 110 character, especially if you don't have a way of healing.
4) You now need only 3 Elite kills for completion. There was a brief time when, if you had already killed 3 Elites before this quest, you only had to kill one to complete it (can confirm: I had this happen twice and was confused). Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore.
5) I don't believe that World Quest bosses count (eg: Apocron, Brutallus, Malificus, and Si'vash). Still hit them up, though, as they reward you with Normal-difficulty ToS loot. (and later, the Greater Invasion Point bosses drop Normal-difficulty Antorus loot). It's an easy way to get good gear and a variant that some players might not see till these raids are an expansion old.

This isn't the first time I did this quest... this is my 5th time I trying to get it done. 1 hour 20 mins AND using the co-ordinates given (used paste to get them imported nicely btw -- that part works great). NOTHING. no skulls at all...I go to every single co-ordinate point given more than once...NOTHING.....ironically I did get 2 done.....NEITHER were a skull on the map or at a co-ordinate location.

The 4 other times I did this was much faster....I don't know what's up this time but this is some massive BS. :)

Legionfall Campaign:

***Note: It is recommended to work on the treasure finding quests the goblins south-west of Deliverance Point give you, in order for you to have eight world quests available when it comes time to complete them for step 11. The goblin's last quest isn't available until the following day/reset. Their final quest opens up the world quest Treasure Master Iks'reeged.

1. Assault on the Broken Shore (Intro Scenario)

2. Legionfall Supplies (Collect 100 order resources)

3. Aalgen Point (Visit flightplan)

4. Vengeance Point (Visit flightplan)

5. Begin Construction (Use construction table to donate Legionfall War Supplies to the construction of a building)

6. Altar of the Aegis (NOT REQUIRED!) (Accepting the quest will cause the NPCs to run away. Relogging will cause them to reappear)

7. Defending Broken Isles (Defeat a Legion invasion in the Broken Isles). If one is not available, it is recommended to continue on your class hall questline if it hasn't been completed yet. There will not be a follow-up quest to Defending Broken Isles unless you have completed your class hall campaign.

8. Champions of Legionfall (Return to your class order hall and recruit a new champion)

9. Shard Times (Collect 2500 Nethershards to give to Khadgar)

10. Mark of the Sentinax (Collect 50 Marks of the Sentinax)

13. Relieved of Their Valuables (Find 3 Hidden Wyrmtongue Caches on the Broken Shore)

14. Take Out The Head... (Slay 3 Rare Elites on the Broken Shore)

15. Championing Our Cause (Successfully complete a Legionfall mission at your Class Order Hall) (The mission can be put in before ever accepting this quest, but do not complete/accept the rewards from the mission before accepting this quest in order to get quest credit.)

16. Strike Them Down (Slay 100 demons on the Broken Shore)

The Legionfall Campaign is then complete, and you should receive a quest from an NPC at Deliverance Point to start your class mount questline.

The two quests listed above are definitely not required for the Legionfall Campaign (or to get your class mount).

If you don't see any rares up, as of BFA you can now toggle war mode and re-enter the zone. This will change the CRZ phase you're in, and give you another chance to find more rares.

If you are still working on getting Class Mounts on alts in BFA patch 8.0.1(or if you just boosted a toon to 110), and are on this achievement, do yourself a big favor and download the addon HandyNotes_BrokenShore. Blizzard purposely de-spawns the "green head" elites in the Broken Shore zone off of your map, but that doesn't mean they aren't there! ;-)

After downloading this addon, I went to each location with a white head on my map, and while many weren't there (not sure if it was due to the Sentinax being up or not), I noticed that my NPC Scan would alert me when I got close to one of the heads on my map. So don't believe everything you see on your map. Download the addon (and NPC Scan, if you don't have it) and go to the "head" locations and save yourself some time and headaches.

Hopefully this helps someone, at some point.

In regards the marks denoting the locations of the mobs on the map disappearing on acquisition of the quest, as confirmed by numerous people in the thread. I flew back to Dalaran after accepting the quest, and then flew back to the Broken Shore. That seems to have made two Skulls reappear. Now I'm using the coords mentioned above to locate a 3rd.

Looks like that now only rare elites with icons might be up per shard.
The other rare elites which used to be up without rare elite status doesn't spawn anymore.

I couldn't do this on my 111 Monk, the elites were killing me somewhat easily. So I levelled up to 113, with increases in my armour and weapons, and gave it a try. The 1st one went down rather easily, i thought, until I saw a lvl 120 Ally was behind me killing this guy too. The next 3 rare elites I attacked I could not get them down past halfway before I died. Of course there is almost nobody out this way these days, and certainly no groups forming. I will have to beg or offer riches up and hope someone out there will hear me and help, or I have to level up to 116 or more.

I was 2/3 complete for this quest and it just would not happen for the third rare. I reset my cache and it fixed the issue.

If you're anything like me and happened to kill 2/3 of the rares that were up before accepting this quest, you will be happy to know that as long as you know where a rare is spawning you can kill it while it's a gold elite to count for the quest.

I'm pretty sure it didn't used to work this way so they must have changed it, I killed gold plate rares on two separate characters now and had the quest complete.

Posting as of 8.2.5 patch:

Once I accepted the quest, like others, all of the rare skulls on my map disappeared.
Eventually 2 skulls showed up and I killed 2/3 rares.

I tried the NPC Scan + Handy Notes AND the CopyPasta waypoint list and flew around for a long while. There were NO rares (silver or gold) anywhere. I went to every skull/marker at least 3-4 times. I am not sure if the method marked before is still viable...

I logged to another character, did a quest or two, came back and 2 more skulls were up.

I think they just limit you to 2 at a time and there's a 30 minute spawn/kill cycle. If flying in circles isn't getting you anywhere, just come back in a bit. Worked for me.

If you kill any rares before accepting this quest, you'll be able to kill them again on the same day to get credit (once per rare)!

I made the mistake of killing one of the three rares that was up before accepting this quest, and I just waited for that rare to be up again. Dropped no loot, but still gave kill credit toward the quest. The more you know!

For me the "Rare Elites" didn't show up as rare, or on the minimap at all. So make sure to have a target macro ready and still kill them as they do count!

If no green skulls show on your map, try relogging to alts to check their maps.
Also note, some of the addons don't show all the spawns. There were a couple spawns south of Deliverance Point not showing for me..

Okay so I'm doing this quest and as I killed an elite I waited for a while and there was like this theme song that came on for a few seconds it was as if you're coming up on a boss in a scaryMelody played out and there was another green skull that came up on my map just letting you know that you may have to wait for that little Melody to be heard.

I know there's already a ton of comments about this quest, and it's possible someone else has already mentioned this exact same tactic, but after doing this quest across several alts, I figured I'd throw in my experience and how I get it done within a few minutes.

Before accepting the quest, open your map and look for the green skulls. I recommend using TomTom to create waypoints (unless you're really good at remembering things) to each one you see just in case you come across one that's already been killed. Once you accept the quest, most of the skulls will disappear, however, even if one of your custom waypoints doesn't have a skull, the rare should still be there (unless it's dead of course). This makes it much easier and quicker to find the three you need. It takes me less than five minutes to complete this way.

The "rare#" macros can be compressed into just two with cutting off the last name of mobs with unique first names in this case, but the three macro setup is a standard in rare hunting thus it's better to set it up once and cycle thru unique sets as necessary.

raretarget will run the 3 above macros at once with this format:

They don't have to be in sequence like this, but it makes it easier to select the correct slot.
