Simply click the cannons once they become active. I just mounted up and ran between the 3 of them. None of the marksmen died by the time I was done. Turn in quest for lootz!

I've had the yell and the 12/12 marksmen appear on my screen just by being in Theramore without actually having started this quest. Very strange.

Well, I've tried it 4 times now an it's not working. I start it, click on the cannons, and nothing. I wait for the militia to come out and click them again when everything it sparkling and the little mechanical icon comes up, and still nothing. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

The mount up tip worked really well. I would advise everyone to do that. Just mount up between each cannon use.

Considering the size of the monster and the fuss the NPCs make....you'd think there'd be more to this quest. But there isn't. Just run between the three mortars along the docks until it dies. You won't take damage....and I think you could probably walk the whole time and not lose too many others. I didn't see anything take damage while I was running back and forth.

But I have to admit, the fireworks at the end was a nice touch.

Re-doing the quest at level 85 it is of course now easier to just jump in the water and kill him yourself. :)

Notes about Tethyr:
(1) Tethyr is summoned when someone runs quest Take Down Tethyr!.
(2) Other people can see and attack Tethyr while you are running this quest.
(3) As soon as you start the quest the clouds will darken, it will start raining, the lighthouse light will turn on, 12 marksmen will show up to fight with you against Tethyr, and after Tethyr shows up the mortars will be enabled.
(4) If you fail to complete the quest (or even if you successfully complete the quest but do not turn in the quest) you can run it again by selecting the quest from your quest log and clicking the "Abandon" button. The quest giver "Major Mills" will show up again a few seconds or a few minutes later depending on how long ago your previous attempt was (should not be more than a few minutes at most).

Great and easy quests for a level36. I did it as a 39 Shammy and the shoulders are great at that moment.

The questchain only costed me about 30 minutes

For anyone who is wondering how you get started to get onto this quest in Dustwallow Marsh. Its very simple, just get to Dust wallow marsh and pick up the few quests that are availble. You will probably do about 7-9 very simple quest before you go to Major Mills. Its right after the stinky fish test quest. Ones you get started just wait right there and do nothing until you can click on the cannon, ones that starts then its simply going back and forth from the 2 other cannons that are to the left and right of where you are, just go to them and click and ones you have, you don't have to wait until it fires, ones you're are done with the click go on to the next cannon you havn't fired yet, its pretty short, about 10 or so minutes. You don't have to directly attack the moster. I did that and it attacked back, just use the cannons and it will be a piece of cake.

I had lv 37 Holy paladin, i did it like this :
I jumped down to the water and killed him myself, yes took alot but enough to heal myself without dying.

Seems like it isn't as fun as the older posts....I needed to use each cannon only once each and then it was over. Not even any fireworks. And after all the posts that had me hyped up for kewl quest, it was a real bummer! lol I did get to see the sky grow dark and the men all run in to help. Oh well. Kind of like most of the newer quests now, too easy i guess.

If you abadon the quest after some seconds of accepting it, you need to wait until the boss dies, and relog after 1-2 minutes, if it doesn't work try to change zone and relog again

I fired a frostbolt at Tethyr during the quest. When Tethyr launched his counter attack, a level 90 guard spawned and quickly killed him. lol. Gotta love the level 90 town guards that spawn.

Instead of running from cannon to cannon as i've always done in the past with my alts, i tried standing next to one cannon (with my level 39 shadow priest) and alternately aoe'ing Tythyr and clicking the cannon when it became available, i took no damage, lost no marksmen, and was able to finish the quest in a couple of minutes. Melee classes may have difficulty with this technique.

If you fail this quest, abandon it, leave Theramore and come back. Major Mills will be waiting on the docks by the cannons offering the quest again.

While another player trying take down Tethyr, Major Mills is not able to speak with. So if many wait to do this quest, you have to be quick to get your reward or wait some minutes until Major Mills is ready again. Maybe talk with the other players to wait with start the battle, until you get your reward.

There seems to be a number of issues with this quest currently. Getting on a flying mount automatically causes the quest to fail. Also, killing the boss too quickly (without using cannons as a high level) seems to glitch the quest to not give credit for the kill. Recommend being patient and doing the quest the way it was intended (using the cannons and not mounting up) so you don't have to run out of the zone to reset the quest like I did multiple times.

At 2023:
The canons doesn't work before Major Mills give the order. Wait the order.
Don't mount, don't change form. Use the 3 cannons, then burst Tethyr.

Description

Sea monster or no, we're not going to risk the safety of our shipping. I've ordered our best marksmen to prepare for a confrontation with this Tethyr. The artillerymen have augmented the dock's defenses with three mortars.

I'm going to order the lighthouse's lamp illuminated. If Tethyr does attack, it will be your job to operate the mortars and take down the beast before it can kill all of the marksmen. I wouldn't stand in one place too long, though. Using the mortars is likely to draw its attention.
