This item is pickpocketed from Kobold creatures in The War Within once the player has completed the questline delivered by the Suspicious Vent NPC found inside the Gundargaz inn. The first quest of this line is Go Take Candle!.

It works the same way as weapon runes in Dragonflight, so it stacks with your standard poisons and can be applied to both your MH and OH weapon if you so wish. This means that Assassination rogues which have specced into Dragon-Tempered Blades can apply four unique poisons and also have two doses of Bubbling Wax active all at once.

During the Campaign quest Speaking to the Speakers there is a slow and steady stream of perpetually spawning Kobolds I used as an opportunity to ascertain a drop rate. If you would like to reliably farm this item I suggest heading over to The Waterworks where Kobold enemies can be found in abundance. ( /way 44.77, 44.27 )

I pickpocketed 51 of these particular Kobold and ended up looting Bubbling Wax 12 times. That's a drop rate of around 23.5%. It only ever dropped one at a time.

There does not seem to be a cooldown for how often the pool of boiling wax effect can trigger and it is capable of critically hitting the enemy (2x damage). It can be very effective in AoE situations utilising Fan of Knives after an Envenom to quickly apply poison to multiple enemies all at once.

The best place is farm these is in the Lost Mines, The Warrens (per Syb42) and Darkflame Cleft. Small sample size: farmed for roughly six minutes in the Lost Mines and got 22, enough to apply two and keep a stack.

Do a follower dungeon run of darkflame cleft and just pickpocket while your group kills the kobolds. Decent way of farming this.

This item currently isn't scaled down for Mage Tower. If you want some easy mage tower wins then put this on your weapons.

Ironclaw Whetstone is still better, of course, but is currently priced around 5k. So until prices drop, this is an excellent alternative.

Bubbling Wax only works on main hand (source: rogue discord). You'll want to use Algari Mana Oil on the off hand. (The difference between rank 1 and rank 3 Algari Mana Oil is only 0.15%.)

This thing is INSANE in Timewalking, there's no nerf to the damage, it consistently do 200k+ damage when it procs

and food from TWW as well, LOL
