The spellscribe is famous mostly for the Black Tabby small pet that he drops. It seems to be available from other mobs (near Dalaran), but at a miniscule drop rate. The spellscribe's drop rate for it is about 15%.

The Spellscribe can spawn in the following locations: in the town hall centre; inside of the shack to the left of the town hall's entrance; and inside of the house to the right of the town hall's entrance.

Today I found the Spellscribe inside of the house; she dropped a rather poor green staff and, fortunately, the Black Tabby.

Be careful whilst fighting her; every now and then she casts 'Freeze', which is a particularly nasty stun and DOT spell. Try to keep your health very high at all times during the fight with her; she can sometimes be much more difficult than she appears!

All Dalaran mobs are alliance-friendly, so alliance players cannot get this directly. It can be sold for quite a bit of gold on the neutral auction house by horde players.

Be warned, this mob has a freeze ability. It is an instant cast, lasts for 15 seconds, leaves you completely unable to act, and it does not break on damage. If you're approximately the same level as this mob, that ability will almost certainly kill you.

I have killed the spawn twice so far and no cat. However the first one was male and the second was female. I waited 30 minutes after the first kill around 4:30pm and no re-spawn. My second kill on the same day was around 11pm. Sorry I can't give an exact spawn time.

Respawn timer: 8 hours ?

I've been trying to figure out the respawn timer on this mob, so after first killing her at 3:30am i decided to just stay there and wait. After 6 hours straight sitting there and clicking /target Dalaran Spellscribe macro i spiritlessly fell asleep :( seeing no respawn, however when i came back at 3:25pm the Spellscribe was already back. Thus the respawn timer must be over 6hours but under 12hours, and my guess is that it is equal to 8hours. Have luck grinding!

The two spawn locations I have seen so far (have not seen the spawn in the house to the right as you enter the compound) have both been unique spawn points, so you do not need to farm/clear the rest of the mobs while you wait.

I've been killing this guy/girl for the past 5 days trying to get the Black Tabby. So far I've killed the Dalaran Spellscribe 10 times and he/she still hasn't dropped the cat. That's, at most, a 9% drop rate for me.

I don't think that's how it works at all. I camped out over by her spawn for a while today. She was killed within 5 mins of spawning at 1215. (I had a timer on reminding me to hit the /target macro that went off every 5 mins, at 1215 when I hit hte macro, it targeted her dead body) I set an alarm in game to go off 6 hours after that - 10 mins so I would get a jump on her spawn. At 5pm, having forgotten what time the alarm was set for, I logged in, hit the target macro, and boom there she was. An hour and 15 mins before a 6 hr respawn based on when I saw her body. Still no kitty, though. : / Just the dang belt over and over again. As said above, I'm also thinking it is a random spawn between 3-8 hours.

To all those Alliance players who want this item, but don't want to spend a ton of gold on the AH or spend 6 months waiting for it to even appear, you might want to do what I did.

Make a Horde Death Knight.

Simply make a Horde Death Knight, do the starting quests (3 hours or less) and take the flight path straight there. When you've finished the quests you have all the flight paths, so head to Silverpine and camp there until you have one and zip down to Booty Bay.

Couple things to note, however.

1: You cannot make a Horde if you are on a PvP server and play Alliance. You're stuck with the same faction.

2: You cannot bid on your own auctions. So don't go putting it on the neutral AH and then login with an Alliance character hoping to buy it from yourself. Just get a guild member or someone you trust to get into position while you put it up on the AH for 2 copper.

I've had the mob spawn twice since I made my Horde character yesterday. Dropped the cat second try (however I think I'll get a few more to make some cash). :)

3 hours of doing quests is nothing compared to most farming, plus you don't have to check the AH 50 times a day hoping a Horde has realized it is a valuable item.

I just cant see the 20% drop rate on that cat. I have been farming this thing for 2 weeks now, killing it at least twice a day, and not one cat. I guess i just have bad luck.

He spawns in the center quite a bit for me, having seen him there about 70% of the time. The rest of the time is split between the other 2 areas. The house on the right, he spawns in the back part of the lower floor, you can see it when looking straight in the door.

I have actually only seen her twice, both time was in the house to the right as you enter, neither time did she have the cat, i got the staff the first time and the belt the second.

Started farming for the Black Tabby today, so far I can report in three kills an approximate respawn timer of 4 hours and 25 minutes.

First respawn was at ~11:56 pm server time. Second was at ~4:20 am.

No tabby so far.

First kill:1:56 AM server time, Second kill:5:32 AM, Third Kill: 4:05 PM the next day, Fourth Kill: 9:13 PM and the last one I will record is the Fifth Kill, at 1:40 AM. I slept though one spawn time between second and third kill. I targeted him/her from the middle room when he/she was in the room to the left as you enter and has been either in that room or in the middle room since. Hope this info will help you out. Out of the five kills I got 2 Black Tabbies and sold one for 400g to another horde friend.

13 kills now, 4 tabbies

19 kills now, 5 tabbies

Totally missed this pet when started farming pets for 75 pet achievement. Today looked it up and went farming. Dropped from first spellscribe :) 67 pets in total now.

Going try and get it from next spellscribe and hit it on neutral ah for 1000g and see if it sells :)

Edit: seems like my usual luck is back. out of 16 scribe kills only first kill gave me tabby. im starting to think that it wont drop if you have already learned it. oh well few more tries.

Edit2: 28 spellscribes later i got it again :) rng must hate me :p

I've killed this guy 5 times so far on my BE death knight. I didn't feel like power-lvling a new hordie to lvl 30 so I just used the tactic mentioned by ForcedPerfect. Out of the 5 times he's died, the cat has only dropped once. The second, fourth, and fifth times he's dropped a Jewel-encrusted Sash and the third time it was a Channeler's Staff. For me, the respawn time seems to be anywhere between 5 hours and 9 hours.

I've been camping this npc for about 5 days or so, killed it like 17 times. Each spawn is roughly 4-5 1/2 hours apart. Still haven't seen a black tabby drop.

Not to mention the Sprite Darter Hatchling and Westfall Chicken, the latter of which you can only get as a Horde player if you have a friendly Alliance player willing to do the quest and let you take the egg, and the former not available at all as Horde until the next patch where they're reportedly making it a small chance drop off the Sprite Darters.

As of 3.1 the http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=15067 will drop from the sprite darters.

Sprite Darter Eggs: May now (very rarely) drop from Sprite Darters in Feralas. Note that only Horde characters can attack and kill Sprite Darters.

So what does that say now about the alliance not being able to get this pet unless they pay a fortune, are lucky enough to be on a pve server and get a trusted friend to buy it for them after farming it, or spending the money to make an extra account.

guide to getting your tabby/2k

1. see where the castle is on the map go there
2. check the house(both) shack and town hall
3. hunters can track this easily its a yellow dot
4. kill it

HERES WHAT I DID to start an operation to get my second epic flyer
i made a horde to try to lvl and i got boared.
when i heard about this i made him spawn camp him and i would log ojn every 3 hours or so and check (hes a hunter) please make a hunter for tracking.
he was lvl 19 so it was easy.
wait.
when i get 2 i hearthed to the sepulcher and mailed them to an alt in bb and transfered. easy
(also if you dont like dks you can make a dk and theyll just butcher em) the mobs are friendly to alliance and the cat goes for 1700-2000 gold on a alliance ah on my server

You will not believe what I just did.

I decided to go camp there with my hunter, figuring I'd do like most people do and log on every once in a while, spam the macro a few times, then log off.

The second I step into Ambermill for the first time on my hunter, the macro hits him. I look around a little bit and can't see him. So after a while I get the bright idea to just send my pet after him and follow my pet.

Sadly, he killed him in like one shot, leaving me unable to loot.

I'm going to abandon that pet XD.

Anyways, I saw him in the back corner of the hut that is to the left of the main hall if you're facing the main hall's entrance.

The droprate may be lower then stated here. I have killed him/her around 20 times now with no cat. (of course, it just might be statistics against me here!)

My biggest problem with the Spellscribe is that he's always killed when I get there. I've been looking for him three times today (with about 3 to 6 hours in between) and he hasn't been there at all!
I expected having to kill him severals time before I got the Tabby but I can't even get the chance to try...
I guess I'll just have to continue trying, sooner or later I'll get him.

there seems to be a high drop rate the first time you do it but it becomes low over time. i have killed him 8 times. first time i got it second time i didnt third time i did.

THE SPAWN LOCATIONS ARE:

in the main building

in iether of the houses

shack (unconfirmed).

he is always inside guarded by at least 1 mob on the main building (same pull)
and by 2 or 3 in the houses (if you manage to pull the person guarding the door without pulling the house also if your a class with a pet dont send it in that will aggro it)

if you are going to make an alt to farm this thing do the fallowing: make a hunter the tracking will help sooo much i just happen to have a hunter and it works especially with the pet tank. if your making a dk just get tracking humanoids on a low lvl hunter and check before inconvenience. but that may not we worth your time.

I have been farming this pet on and off since January. I've mapped out the times and locations of each spawning, the location and the drop. To date, my success rate is this:

Out of 40 spawnings of the Spellscribe that I have seen, I've collected:

20 sashes (50%)
10 staffs (25%)
1 belt (2.5%)
1 axe (2.5%)
9 cat boxes (22.5%)

The trouble is, there is no pattern to the spawning of the Spellscribe. It changes from day to day and from hour to hour. I plotted it in a chart. It's completely random. Some days it will spawn 2-3 times, some days never. The timing of the spawns changes and does not repeat intra-day or inter-day. Also, the location changes as well, in a similarly random manner.

I got 2 cat boxes within 24 hours followed by none for week and a half, despite not changing my hours of play/checking.

Basically, be prepared to be stubborn, competitive (many many people log in/out right in the doorways), and patient....or, have a lot of money. I've sold my boxes for anywhere from 600g on the low side to 1600g on the high side. It also makes a difference whether you buy/sell at a Horde AH or neutral, of course.

Can someone verify the drop rate of the Black Tabby pet?

I've been farming this guy for the last week and killed him/her about 12 times with no Tabby,either some bad luck or changed drop rates maybe.. not sure..

And one very good way to farm the Black Tabby:

Have an alt character that is high enough to down these mobs with no issues (27+)
Have the alt stand in the center of the entrance on the stone path.
Make the macro "/target Dalaran Spellscribe" and put it on your action bar.
Log in/out periodically (about every 4 hours seems to work well). And click the macro. And if you are standing on the path, it should be in range for all of the Spellscribe's spawn locations.
Now that you know that the mob is there, go and check the 3 locations for your kill.

It seems to work pretty well for farming the mob, try it and have fun farming : )

Can someone verify the drop rate of the Black Tabby pet?

I had farmed this little guy during the Christmas season and had gotten about one every other week. Starting around March was the last time I've seen this drop. I'm good about checking on the Dalaran Spellscribe twice a day and get at least one kill but no kitten. This long drought makes me think either they might have changed the drop rate or a black cat has crossed my path.

I have been farming this mob for some time now. The spawn time is quite rare, I killed her at 22:12 then again at 01:20 , then again at 12:10.

14 Sashes in my inventory and only 2 tabbies.

Using a level 30 rogue, stealth, kill, vanish, logout.

Tabbies sell for 1000g easily on Magtheridon-Eu Horde.

There are my drops of 40 kills of Dalaran Spellscribe

29 x Jewel-encrusted Sash (72,5%)
11 x Channeler's Staff (27,5%)
4 x Black Tabby (26th, 34th, 35th and 37th kill) (10%)

Note: The black tabby is an extra loot, the mob drops the staff or the sash and the kitten.

i just killed a spellscribe, then decided to grind the mobs around the spawn spots until another popped. (while spamming /target Dalaran Spellscribe macro inbetween kills) took 9.5 hours for a second one to pop...so def confirmed that it can take over 6 hours to spawn. btw, 9.5 hours of farming the same 30 or so mobs in that walled in area is BRUTAL. just log in occasionally to check for it, don't hang around, you're better off leveling up to 30 to farm the other 3 mobs that drop the cat inbetween checking spawn times on the spellscribe.

I've been camping the Dalaran Spellscribe for a few weeks now. The droprate on the tabby is not very good. Between spawn times I hunted Dalaran Summoners and got one tabby. I also got a tabby from a Dalaran Shield Guard. I only managed to get those once as the droprate is horrible.

I had my orc death knight sit at Ambermill for hours on end, spamming the target macro every few minutes and checking the combat log to see if anyone else had come by and attacked the spellscribe. I had the sound set so that if there was any combat I would hear it happening and be able to check. Whenever he/she spawned I would check the smaller buildings first and then inside the large one and one-shot kill him/her.

The spawnrate seems to be between 4 hours + 10 minutes up to 8 hours (on only one occasion it was 10 hours, but I think I may have missed a spawn while grabbing something to eat). It was never less than 4 hours. Most of the time for me he/she would respawn after 4 hours and 10 minutes. I filled my bags with the jewel-encrusted sashes, maybe about 10 of the channeler's staff. I did get a green recipe (I'll have to look again to see what kind it was) that isn't on the loot list here.

I didn't get the tabby very often. Maybe one in 20 kills or so if I'm lucky. But I have gone for over 30 kills without getting one.

The spawn time seems to be about the same on the PTR (Patch Test Realm), although for the most part it was every 4 hours + 10 minutes. The droprate on PTR seems to be worse for me, but it could just be that I'm having bad luck.

confirmed the horrible drop rate. never ever 19%, more like 5 or something for me. But well, it takes like half a minute to kill this guy and when he finally drops the tabby, you'll get your easy ~1k gold (on my realm at least)

I have found him three times so far and the black cat has dropped once. What I found helpful was to grab the npc number, 1920 and add it into my npc scan addon. I set my dk on the steps in the middle of the three places and the range is far enough that when you sign on, if the spellscribe is there then it will set the addon off. If not, you don't have to worry about checking each house.

I am shocked that I have yet to see this mob even once since I am on a very low pop server. My warlock is parked on the steps here and I've logged in to him a few times a day, have the Spellscribe in NPCscan and I have a macro that I spam.

Once he spawns will he despawn at all like some rares or just hang around until killed?

And after continuing to check this mob for 6 days I have seen him 4 times, checking for him on average 3-4 times a day. I assume it's still farmed even on low pop servers, I even ran into a few people here that were level 40+. Exactly as the droprates would suggest, I looted 3xJewel Encrusted Sash the first few times and this last time I got the Channeler's Staff (shouldn't it be called the Spellscribe's Staff?). The last time I also got my Black Tabby!

If you have a spare high level character that you can park for a week it is one of the easier rare pets to get since you don't need to grind, just log in, hit a macro, log out.

I'm a regular BT farmer by having a toon sitting in the area... every time i log on/out i check along with in-between toon changing... I've switched realms 2 months ago and started up my farming again. even though i kill the spellscribe about once a day I've not yet received a tabby... if it's just bad luck IDK, but I'm thinking things might have changed. i use to get the tabby about 1 in 5 kills. I'm wondering if the drop-rate changed? is the drop-rate different on other realms? or even do they still drop from the spellscribe? i have about 30 belts now and no tabby. anyone else experience this lately? I like to asume i have bad luck do to what would be the point of a 6-8 hour spawnrate otherwise. another point i like to make is that the spellscribe doesn't always spawn in an exact spawn time (such as 6 hours, or 7 hours and 43 minutes)... I've test this many times.

I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, because I'm not. But I have gone here many times to farm the black tabby pet from the dalaran spellscribe and have killed him about 12 times. Only 1 of those times did I not get the pet drop, which surprised me a lot because I had gotten it every other time. So idk, the drop chance may really be that low and I just got extremely lucky. I sell each one on my server for 450-500g usually.

Well, this is a great way to make money if you have 80's on another server but you just started a new server. I really wanted dual spec for my priest for discipline/shadow but I was only able to about 500g from selling herbs and potions. I made a DK and parked her right outside the Spellscribe spawn. I've killed the Spellscribe twice and that Black Tabby has dropped both times now. I hope I keep getting lucky, I got the first one to sell for 500g.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the respawn timer. I read that it was 6-8 hours, but I later read it was around 4 hours. I checked very frequently between 6-8 hours and didn't find it. It is very possible if it spawned earlier someone could have killed it already.

Either I'm really lucky, or he spawns a lot more often now. I've killed him 5 times in around 15hrs. Not sure the exact time, but it's been more than 12hrs and less than 24. Found the Cat twice so far. We'll see if the RNG gods continue to favor me tomorrow.

With the institution of Patch 4.0.3a, all of the Alliance npc's in Ambermill have been replaced with Elemental Servitors - not sure if any of them will drop the Black Tabby, but it seems unlikely. Stay tuned, and if you've got any tabbies, you might want to hold onto them for a while... ;)

Since the shattering, these no longer spawn in the walled town - there are no Dalaran mages there at all, just elementals.

As of The Shattering (4.0.3a) this mob is effectively gone. I waited for a while at the area where I had previously farmed the cat and did not see the mob spawn. Doubtful that they kept the mob spawning among all the Elemental Servitors that have taken over Ambermill.

From what I can tell you need to complete some quest lines and unlock the gate to get into the other dimension. There's dalaran wizards and such after you do so instead of the elementals.

Can anyone confirm that the Spellscribe can spawn once you've done the questchain? Working on it now since I tired of farming Stormpike Dwarves in Hillsbrad.

This NPC is no longer in the game.

The quest chain to begin unlocking Ambermill begins at the start of the zone. You have to do the previous 40 or so quests to get to these. Once you have "unlocked" ambermill, you will eventually get ported to the Dalaran Crater. The summoners are there, but so far no one has seen the spellscribe.

Once you return to Ambermill, there are NPCs all named 'Ambermill -something-'.

Once you have completed this quest chain, there are no longer hostile mobs in the area.

For anyone stuck on quests like i was (51/55), run into Ambermill's main building in the back and 3 NPC's will pop up and offer new quests.

The black tabby is now a zone drop in Hillsbrad with a reported 1/10,000 drop chance.

There is a comment stating that Yetimus has dropped a few, but it's not officially confirmed to be the best mob to farm yet.

Good luck! Wish I spent more time farming this before the Shattering....

安伯米尔书记员 has returned in 10.1.7 and is located on the second floor of the house at /way #21 63.57 58.34 Ambermill Spellscribe.

His loot table has a chane to drop a few old items removed as well including, 导魔法杖, 宝石镶嵌腰带, and 达拉然巫师袍.

This is an NPC in Silverpine Forest at 63,58, second floor of the house in the first room, right up the stairs. I waited after I killed it and it took 58 minutes and 10 seconds to respawn.
