These do sell well on the RP realms. On Defias Brotherhood EU they're going for anything between 15-20g at the Alliance Auction House. Goes very well with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=14246 if you want a Dalaran Wizard's look.

Does anyone know of any other faction only items such as this robe that would be neat to have? I recently had free xfers open to my ally server from the server I play horde on and a friend xfered one of his 70's for free so now I can farm all the fun cross faction stuff like the black tabby on his toon. Just curious if anyone had a list of horde only/ally only drops that are fun to have.

Well from personal experiences this is a fairly sought after item on the ally side. I've sold 3 of these so far for 150g a piece. It's not really that they're hard to obtain (a few hrs can bring in a few) it's just easier to buy because of the hassle of having to go farm it on a horde toon then doing the ol' neutral auction transfer. All though I wish I could find some on my server for the wowhead buyout price :D that's pretty cheap!

While they aren't anywhere near as rare as the tabby, I wonder if we'll see an upturn in long-term price on these once they are (presumably) no longer available?

It seems all the npcs that drop this are replaced by elementals, the only unit that seems to drop this now are Ambermill Portal Guardians and the drop percent is not correct either, most of the time these two lowly npcs drop nothing. Farming these is now going to be a real pain in the ass and I predict the price of this item is going to be going up.

Confirmed that this still does drop from the Dalaran (now Ambermill) humans in the area. If you are doing Transdimensional Warfare: Chapter II you will see all the mobs that were there pre-cata (with some new ones i.e. the Witchaloks). Just don't complete the quest and you can grind them for the robe. Otherwise the Ambermill Portal Guardians have a chance of dropping it too if you completed the quest already. They aren't as plentiful as the phased mobs though.

For those of you looking to MOG this. These still drop in 4.2.2. I found the Portal Guardians in the cave called: Beren's Peril (just south of Ambermill). I hadn't done any quests, I just wanted this to drop. Dropped on my 4th kill in the cave. (Might have gotten lucky on the drop, but that's not the point .. they're still here!)

this is now transmoggable, and it's confirmed to still drop from 安伯米尔传送门守护者 in beren's peril. quick respawn, don't need any quest progress, can be farmed at max level.

tl;dr

Can only be obtained by Horde characters but can be transmogged by anyone. The mobs you want to kill, Ambermill Portal Guardian, are inside a cave in Silverpine Forest. Absolutely no prerequisite quests are required.
