While the humor is nice, I'd really like some facts on this item.

I'm 85, 525 tailor, have run a number of heroics with no drop yet. Still grinding away, though :D

I would imagine that it would be a bit like the recipies for tasty cupcakes and the like. Because so many people probably want the top hats for, as you say, bank alts and stuff, and of course role play, it won't be a case of just purchasing it. It's likely to be a drop in the new dungeons. It's a guess, at least.

I just got an answere to my ingame ticket, regarding the source of this pattern. The GM told me he had no answere for me about that.
Wich was very loosely phrased, so either he did not know (not implemented), or he must not tell (secret unlockable thingy?).

I'm as dissapointed at it not being in the game yet as anyone, but are you seriously blaming Blizzard for not implementing an item that was never officially announced by them?

Besides, it may be in the game already but it's just as likely it's a rare drop from a mob/archeology/etc that hasn't been found yet. 4.1 is only a couple weeks old.

Either way, save your ire for things that HAVE been announced and not yet implemented (Dance Studio, anyone?)

It's mat requirements have been updated to embersilk cloth from the woolen cloth it is now.

I would assume if they bothered to update the mats, they would have added the recipe to a drop table of a mob, or from a vendor.

Good luck trying to sell these now since it requires 4 dreamcloth.....that is too freaking costly for a level 1 vanity item even for bank alt....and sure orbs go boa this patch that still 20 orbs to make the 4 dreamcloth you need.

Judging from the fact that it's smart loot one would think it drops from a mob, but from where...that is harder to tell from the info we have currently.

I think I'm gonna have to take my tailor out for a spin on the new 5mans and see how it goes, if I get lucky, I'll come back to report here.

According to the official WoW site, this pattern has a low chance to drop from several rare cataclysm elites such as Akma'hat and Xariona.

Edit: Also from a couple of Timeless Isle rare elites! SHENANIGANS. Has anyone seen this in-game?

I made a ticket and talked to a GM, I know they are limited as to what information about items they can give but I thought I would ask none the less, I asked "Is the item in-game and where can it be found I have looked on the official website as well as websites like wowhead and generally googling to find some information about this item but have found none."

Below I have linked the conversation also adding that there is a player on my realm that advertises the hat to sell for about 30k but he admits he doesn't know the pattern but his "friend" does. Basically the outcome is, the item was due to be added but hasn't been yet for what ever reasons, and the person selling it is either trolling (for that price is assume he is) or it may be some sort of scam.

Okay guys so I was doing some research in how to get this mysterious recipe, some people had posted that Regulater from Bladefist EU had managed to acquire this recipe.

So I decided to approach Regulater and ask him how he got his hands on his beauty. What he told me is that he had this pattern drop from thrash in Firelands.

So this is really interested guys, the only person to be known to have this recipe had it drop from a place which isnt listed in either Wowhead's database, nor Battle.net's database.

I'll contact a GM about this and update when I get an answer.

How about a screenshot or two? Both the actual Hat and Pattern are lacking any screenshots aside from the one Beta pic of the bald human wearing it. All these people claim to have this recipe or to have seen it. Take a moment and snap a shot will ya? Easy way to get upvoted a million times imo. ;-)

For everyone looking for this pattern, I am happy to share where to get it. I made a ticket about it and after many hours of waiting, they finally responded that it is a random chance world drop. In other words, as long as you have tailoring (presumably 500+ as the recipe is that high), there is a slight chance it will drop no matter what you kill, or where.

To quote the GM response:

So, I realize there has been some additional info on this since I posted this. GM's seem to be reporting things a bit differently and it's hard to know what is actually true. I made a ticket and got a response at this very date (5th march 2013), the last day of patch 5.1:

"I can confirm that the Pattern: High Society Top Hat is available in-game. The World of Warcraft page listing the mobs that this can drop from is accurate and up-to-date. Good luck in your hunt! :)"

As of Patch 5.4, the official World of Warcraft web site added 2 Rare Elites which can drop this pattern.

According to blizzard, the seahorses in Dread Wastes have a chance to drop 图样：上流社会的礼帽 and 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜. Who knows if they are actually dropping them, but if they are, all of these seahorses are located South of Zan'Vess. There are two 野生海马s, one fast and one slow. And there are two schools of 淘气海马s, four per school. The seahorses each have about a 5 minute respawn timer. I recommend having a Cursed Swabby Helmet, an 水润珠宝, and some 暗水药水s.

The slow Wild Seahorse spawns around 19.7, 90.1, and moves in a clockwise oval with the farthest east point being around 29.8, 97.4. I don't remember how long his circuit takes, but for your first kill of him, you should fly around until you find him. After that, his spawn point will be close to where you're staying (and you'll know when he will be respawning).

The fast Wild Seahorse spawns around 20.2, 95.9, and its easternmost point is around 34.2, 95.3. It only takes it 1:50 to go there and back again, so in my experience, it's better to stay at the spawn point and wait for it.

Each school of playful seahorses has a leader, and if you CC the leader, the other three just wait for you to attack them.

The westernmost school takes about 0:56 to do a circuit, which passes close to the spawn point of the fast Wild Seahorse (19.7, 90.7).

The easternmost school takes about 1:30 to do a circuit, and the westernmost point is near 24.5, 95.9, a little to the east of a sunken ship.

It's still tedious to camp these guys, but hopefully this will make it a little more efficient for people. Good luck!

A GM confirmed to me that the pattern still drops from the Dread Waste Wild Seahorses (野生海马/wild-seahorse) but that it is indeed extremely rare. I proceeded to farm them for roughly 14 hours total with no luck. There are two that spawn every 6-9 minutes and I killed 228 of them. I was able to keep track by holding onto the Long Spines (长脊骨/long-spine) that each one drops. Obviously we would need a bigger sample size, but I would put the drop rate at less than .004%. I just can't do it anymore.

With the profession interface change in the patch today I noticed they added High Society Top Hat in and the drop from "World Creatures". Wonder if this counts as a confirmation that the pattern still drops?

I didn't want to start farming without a confirmation since there is so much debate on it being in the game. I thought it would be, since it's in the unlearned tab, but I agreed with some other people saying WoWhead would have where it drops if it is, and there isn't all that much information about it. I submitted a ticket asking if the pattern is in the game since I couldn't find a recent GM response, so here's what I was told. Not an exact yes or no, but I'd take being directed to Wowhead and that guide is kind of a yes. At least I hope so, since I'm about to start farming it lol

Apparently there is a rumor around that the bosses for these might have had a significant increase in their spawns (meaning they spawn LOTS quicker). Like 4-6 hour timer now rather than 3-5 days.

I can confirm that this pattern still drop! After much time spent and approximately 1664 rare elites kills, it dropped to me from 埃克萨妮奥娜.

1050 Cata boss kills and no sign of this pattern.

EDIT - Now up to 1300 kills, still nothing.

EDIT 2 - 6 months later - 5,000+ kills and STILL neither pattern

EDIT 3 - ANOTHER 6 months later, I'm up to roughly 10,100 kills of all 5 Cata boss rares and still no sign of either rare pattern, maxed Cata JC/Tailoring. I've been selling Reins of Poseidus at ~9k a pop, so that's a nice bonus, I guess (I literally have 124 of them in my bags right now)

You can acquire them on the same character with Jewelcrafting and Tailoring professions.

Looted 图样：上流社会的礼帽 last week from Cata rare Garr in Mt Hyjal. I have been cross-realm farming on and off for about a year with 4 toons (all tailors and jewelcrafters) and finally I have it. No idea of the kill count. I can confirm that it can drop for any level tailor as I was only 1/75 and, in fact, I had to return to the trainer in SW to learn Cata tailoring and level to 50 to make it. I chose Garr as he drops, on average, 450 gold per kill and reaching as high as 539 gold. I have estimated I have looted over 1.5 million gold from all of the Cata rares since I started but have settled lately just on Garr as it is the best return while waiting for the drop. Good luck all and will now continue for the 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜.

Got it! 图鉴：莱茵石太阳镜 dropped 05/02/2020 off Garr. 1/75 Cata jewelcrafting and now I have to level to 75/75 to learn it.The farm is over!

I just looted Pattern: High Society Top Hat from Garr after 2000+ cata world boss kills.

My character was 1/75 Tailoring level when the pattern dropped.

I just want to also confirm that this pattern still drops. I just got it on 9.9.2021 from Xariona .
I only tried to farm Julak-Doom and Xariona . Together had only like 100 kills of both. (That is very lucky)
I have tailoring fully levelled up in all expansions.

I finally looted 图样：上流社会的礼帽 today after 15,052 cataclysm world boss kills. The journey to collect this recipe has taken years and I am very relieved it is over. The army of alts and meticulous tracking spreadsheet can finally be put to rest.

I sniped this off the AH on low pop realm for only 500k, median US price is above 1M gold. I save these rare mon recipes on sll my alt servers and check often if their up and the price. Now i could farm it and sell it. Of you’re on Twisting Nether or any of the connected servers to it I can craft it for you.

Finally got it from 加尔 yesterday! I tried to get it during BFA but it was too difficult, when I heard that it was no longer BOP, I decided to farm it seriously with my army of 15 alts. With 2 alts per spawn points across Uldum, Hyjal & Twilight Highlands, shifting War Mode on and off, I could get several kills of the same bosses per day by just checking occasionally, and It finally dropped on an alliance alt. This and 食谱：迪尔格的超美味奇美拉肉片 being the only 2 recipes that I miss on my main, at some point I'll have to transfer that alt to give it to him. But now what is sure is that it's in my possession and I couldn't be happier. Good luck to everybody who's farming it.

My husband just had this drop in the molten front on a trash mob during the giant attack, he wasn't sure which mob. he promptly handed it to me since I'm the Tailor of our duo, I love my husband ❤️

Since the new crossrealm AH and it being BOE now this pattern became super cheap. I server hopped a bit and bought it for 200k something. Dont expect to make any money with it, because every AH is now flooded with the hat item. It just became a +1 for the collection and the wish to get this learned by crafting it yourself and not from someone else. :) I expect this to drop even further, but we will see.

I'm a lvl 51 vulpera horde warlock with only engineering, and only in my 3rd kill all of DF exp I got this on my 3rd kill only! ridiculous RNG. I'm on a roll. I just got heavenly onyx cloud serpent, solar spirehawk, son of galleon, X-45 Heartbreaker AKA Pink Love Rocket, and more. I thought you had to have tailoring to get this, but I guess not. Farmed all of SL and didn't ever get this. Something told me to go kill Garr bc he's closest of all, and bam! Always follow your 1st instinct! Will try and sell on low pop server and post update on profit margin vs the current 200k norm atm in the NA AH.

I have noticed that Poseidus is not considered a drop source for the pattern. Well, last night, I got my first top hat recipe ever from him! Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/xkbPUce.png

Note that as others have also reported in their experiences, this was an incredibly long farm. I've been farming the Cata world bosses on an almost daily basis for years now, and this is my first drop of the hat recipe or rhinestone glasses. I'd list my kill count if I'd been counting to begin with, but the point is, Poseidus is a drop source!
