After patch 2.3 Weather-Beaten Journal can be found inside this trunk and according with El's Extreme Anglin' it has a 25%.

Floating wreckage is awesome.
Multiple random drops when you open. There are two keys to maximizing the outcome:
1> raise your fishing level, i.e., use the best bait you can acquire it will pay for itself
2> when you cast, if it doesn't hit within the swirling circle of floating wreckage or oily blackmouth, right-click to retrieve and recast. I ususally get at least two chests from wreckage, always only one from fish schools. The boxes I've gotten almost always contain a green item, and 3-6 items total including potions and materials. As a Lock, this is free mats when I disenchant green items. Who doesn't like free stuff?

These trunks contain Weather-Beaten Journal, the book to teach the ability Find Fish.

The drop rate of the book is very high, but it appears low on the statistics due to the fact that it doesn't show for people who already know it.

If you have the ability already, you can trade or mail a crate to another char and let them open it. If they have 100 fishing skill, they should be able to loot the Journal.

I can confirm these can be fished from both floating wreckage (like 100% chance) and fish schools (~10%).
The journal appears to be ~30-40% drop - i pulled 7 from 19 trunks (thats 36%) - and i noticed something interesting - only the one who 1st opens the trunk can see the journal. I send to my alt a trunk with a journal and some leather and i could see only the leather. Later i send some more trunks that were NEVER opened so far to same alt and i found the journal in 3th opening (for the protocol - that alt have 1/75 fishing).

Edit: Once you learn the find fish skill you can no longer see any journals, no matter if you're 1st opener.

I get 3-4 of these Trunks from Sagefish Schools regularly, but haven't yet gotten the Journal that teaches Find Fish :(

Spent 3 hours, Okay so how I got this was I fished in the Sagefish Pool, You'll see it in Stonetalon Mountains, in Mirkfallon Lake. North of Sun Rock Retreat. Fished for ever but I did get the book first try. Just keep fishing in the Sagefish Pool and it'll drop more. I will post a screen shot on how much fish I recieved from those 3 hours and the book!

I've sold a dozen or more of the Weather-Beaten Journals. they are Unique and Bind on Pickup. So the thing to do is fish up these trunks (floating wreckage FTW!), mail them to an alt that has Fishing but NOT Find Fish, and have him open but NOT loot the trunks. You can then trade the trunk with the journal in it. In order to sell it, you have to bark in trade; the auction house does not accept them.

Went to Southshore and on the my fifth cast on my first pool I received a Watertight Trunk and one of it's contents was the Weather-Beaten Journal. Good luck fellow anglers!

I've found that farming these is a great method of farming for the journal. My favorite spot is the southern beach in Hillsbrad, mainly because its usually always empty, give or take a few questers killing murlocs or naga. I spent about 15 minutes tops looking for wreckage along the coast until I caught a box with the journal in it, then spent another hour farming the boxes and mailing them to a couple guildees. 2 of my friends got one out of the 10 that i mailed boxes to, with about 2-3 boxes per guildee.
Would highly reccomend this area for anyone going after the journal.

OK I found the journal by fishing up at both oil and wreckage sights near the venture co. station in the east of stonetalon. In my opinion it is the best place to farm for the box that has the journal.

I got this one on my first cast. There is a shipwreck just north of Menethil Harbor. Boxes were floating there and I fished it up right away, inside was a bunch of fabric and the book.

i finally got mine in the 50th pool i fished or so. i have no idea how everyone else is finding them so easy. i got mine in the wetlands, in a pool off of the main branchy watersystem. it might be helpful to note for some people that theres specific kinds of pools that have a tooltip when you mouse over them that are called schooner wreckage that i think its more likely to be fished in than sagefish pools. the first 20 pools i fished were sagefish and the pool i ended up getting it from was wreckage..

Just fish out of any school and you have a good chance to catch the watertight trunk, got it on my 3rd school.

It looks like there's been a change with Patch 5.0 and seeking the Floating Wreckage to get this drop. From reading here, pre-patch it was darn near required, with a drop rate of maybe 7% or so from an ordinary school of fish. And Wetlands was the best place to find these flotsam-sniffing fish; specifically, that giant pool in the south. Starting there and journeying upwards taught me that schools of fish disappear after enough casts (2-3 when hiding in Floating Wreckage)... these fish must spook more easily. Like, they're hiding already, so disturbing those sticks and junk with your hooks is just too much to handle. Or something. But how you've managed to clear it all in 2-3 casts is someone else's guess. Anyway.

Wandering back down to the lake and finding maybe 4 of these chicken-fish pools the entire trip (several chests but not one book, mind you), I was bored and maybe slightly desperate, and decided to fish the flotsam-free pools in an effort to remove them and have them respawn with that much-sought debris. I knew they'd take longer to clear, but really, what else was there to do before leaving Wetlands altogether? Then, viola, chest on the 2nd cast! But no book *sigh*

Reading was perhaps not in the cards for my druid, or at least, not reading of the swamp-soaked variety. 3 more 'ordinary' pools of fish later, and perhaps 8-9 more chests, and finally, a nice waterlogged book for me. Fun times ahead?

Along the coast of the Veiled Sea in Northern Stranglethorn and all along the coast-line around the Cape of Stranglethorn the pools of Bloodsail Wreckage spawn frequently and in bunches. I was able to fish up about 10 Iron Bound Trunks and the Weather-Beaten Journal in about 10 minutes.

I got the formula: enchant bracer - lesser versatility from one of these, which i fished up in the wetlands from a schooler wreckage. I think i got pretty lucky because i can't even find the droprate for this inside such a trunk anywhere xD
