As of version 1.81, he still exists and I killed him for the axe. Just that thott says he may no longer exist above ^^^

But WHERE did you find him? Ive heard he is in North Common Hall and I've heard he is in a little room off to the side above that...where exactly is he?

He can be found in the south common room. He is standing in front of a stone bench surrounded by trogs. As far as i can reckon he spawns about once every 8 hours or so. Dropped the boots for me 3 times will try a couple more times though to get that helmet :)

He still exists. In the South Commons Hall 7/20/2006 3 p.m. CST. He dropped the blue BOE axe Shovelphlange's Mining Axe.

i've read about this guy and how he was rare, i was so excited to see him. killed and hoped he dopped the mining axe. bastard didn't drop anything. just some silk

He must spawn in multiple locations because I just found him in The Sealed Hall.

Dropped boots though :-(

There are 4 possible spawn locations of this guy. All are outside the instance of uldaman obviously.

i cant help but think that this guy is no longer a rare spawn, or if he is he has had his respawn time greatly reduced. i killed him twice in an hour while i was grinding outside the instance on my warrior.

yeah i saw his axe in AH and im really wanted it would be a good duel wit my shammy but anyways ive looked all through outside uldaman zone and all over inside instant havent seen him yet ill jsu have to keep lookin

he's still there, spawns outside the instance. killed him twice in the last week, got the axe today.

he does spawn in different locations and from what I can tell he doesn't move about. He's very...creepy. Both times he was standing still and facing a wall like the dude at the end of The Blair Witch.

It seems like very, very few people know about this guy (I mean, look at the kill count that Allakhazam has registered), so farming him isn't a problem. I haven't yet figured out his respawn time though. The easiest way to farm this guy for his nice BoE blues is just making a macro "/target Digmaster Shovelphlange".

I'll try to explain where he is. You enter the cave to the Uldaman front entrance. Pass Digsite One. Now, you're in a tunnel, at the end of the tunnel is a big hall with the entrance to Ulda. Instead of jumping down into the hall, stay high and follow the path a bit south. You'll see a tunnel leading left (south east), go into it. Now the tunnel splits up in two, take the left path (north east). And there you are, the Digmaster should be there together with 5 other elite mobs. They aren't linked though, so just kill them one at a time.

Getting to this guy is easy. At lvl 55 I could easily take on 5 of the elites at once, so chances you'll die are very small (if you're a high enough lvl of course).

He hits very hard, around 120 DMG on leather and he has got a very fast attack speed.

On my first kill I got the boots, on the second kill the axe.

I was doing quests outside the actual instance of Uldaman, and he happened to be there.

I killed him solo as a level 42 full Prot spec Warrior, and after feeding some nice shield slams to his face, he died and dropped the axe.

Was gona AH it but it was on it for such a cheap price, I just vendored it QQ.

As of 10/25/2019 Digmaster Shovelphlange is still spawning at various locations inside the tunnels located just outside the Uldaman instance. I've killed him twice in the last couple days and he's dropped two of his assigned rare items. I located him in the North Common Hall once, and in a corner of the southwest-most small room once.

WARNING! If you are farming him, be careful of any Unique drops. Even if you do not equip them you can only carry one at a time! I got his axe to drop twice while farming him and I had to watch it disappear because I already had one, unequipped, in my inventory.

<Classic phase 2>

Soo after being told by everyone that going dual wield fury at lvl 30 ish is a bad idea, I had to find a way to prove them all wrong!
For science!

It seemed like the lack of hit was the problem, so I scoured Wowhead for hit items at such a low lvl and I found this man's helmet to be the only option.

Roamed the halls of Uldaman (outside the instance!) for a few days to get it on my main 60 priest.
First I had to find his spawns and I sort of found them here but a clear list would be:
1 - South common hall
2 - North common hall
3 - Sealed hall
4 - At the end of the short side tunnel next to the sealed hall

I found him 3 times, twice in a row at location 4 and the third time at location 2. It is hard to tell what the respawn timer is as my server is busy and people are constantly killing stuff there, I found him twice at about 8 in the morning.

He dropped his green boots twice and the third time I got the helm!

Got myself 2x 斯塔文的镰刀 and 旋风之斧 and went 'a testin!

I got to an average dps of 73.25 for the WW axe and dinged... So I figured I had to restart -.-

So now I am a warrior at lvl 34
Tested it on centaurs in desolace with a max difference of 1 lvl, so lvls 33-35.
I started out arms specced (so I guess this favors the WW axe).
In both cases I used the same simple rotation:
Charge in - spam Heroic strike and hamstring once. Use overpower whenever possible. Keep Battle shout up always

Average dps while dual wielding: 81.36
Average dps with WW axe: 77.17

This warranted a respec in my eyes and I came back to try a fury dual wield session
Average dps while dual wielding: 84.40
Average dps with WW axe: 80.68

So the dual wield is about 4 extra dps
Mind this data is from about 20 mobs per dps test, which is not a whole lot.
But for now, for questing - I'm sticking to dual wield.

So I camped him for some time and documented it. My data can confirm 10 - 14,5h respawn but my guess is that the respawn time is 10 - 16h or 10 - 18h. Might as well post my documentation:

Just got my 采金专家的头盔 and wanted to spread some information for everyone who wants to farm it:

In the official WoW Atlas book by Bradygames from 2005 (or 2006, not sure), 挖掘专家舒尔弗拉格 is declared as Semi-Rare. The book tells us that Semi-Rare mobs have a spawn time of 10,5-16 hours.
As i documented my kills throughout my run, i can confirm 10,5-16h

My kills in order till a certain point

1.---5:00 Saturday morning,------------kill on spawn
2.---16:20 Saturday,-----------------------kill on spawn
3.---missed a kill- unknown timeframe,-------------i assume he spawned early morning, but was not killed instantly and stood for a bit
4.---2:00 monday, -------------------------late night/early morning, kill on spawn, camped him all day since sunday 12:15, so assuming a kill at around 10:00 sunday(3.)
5.---15:53 monday afternoon, --------not on spawn since i came from work, ran in and he was around
6.---7:11 Tuesday morning, ------------after i woke up logged in killed him, not on spawn
7.---23:45 Tuesday night, ---------------kill after spawn, logged in and out, max 45min between spawn and kill
8.---14:40 Wednesday afternoon, ---max. 10min after spawn, went afk for some minuts

-did not got him here for a few days since someone camped him a lot- ...and actually got the helmed too since it was on the auction house by that guy
after that, i had no consecutive kills but always knew the timeframe, that confirmed the 10,5-16h spawn time.

my tipp:
camp him hard till you see him spawn, kill him, set up a timer on your phone to 10h, so you have time to get there, and wait. so you "just" have to put in 6h of camping instead of potentially 16h. Stand/sit/dance/sleep in the right spot where you can tag him in any spawn location without moving, spam your macro. (

link by Vigilance in the comments here) one spawn location is actually missing: in the cave to the right of where he stands in the screenshot. i never saw him spawn in the lower left hall but i assume he can spawn there too, since people saw Shovelphlange there.

script command tags him with the green triangle raid marker, so it's easier to see where he is. you wont be able to see through thick walls, but after you tag him with the marker you are able to see him easier when you enter one of the caves.

4 kills so far over a 3 week period checking a couple times a day

no helmet. 4 pairs of boots. %^&* this dude

Took me 10 attempts in order to get his helmet wich is fairly spot on for his droprate, took me roughly 2 weeks with adhoc semi-afk camping. The other 9 times he dropped his stupid boots.
