Of all shield available to the standard raider, this is weaker for raid bosses, but the best for lower level content. Reactive damage, block value, block chance, high armor, and a spot of stam make this great for areas where mob-crits don't matter.

For bigger raid bosses, a tank ought to prefer more stam and some defense (to help eliminate the spike damage of crushing blows and critical srtikes).

Good for tanking bosses in mc at least...and if you cannot get this shield, try to get Burus Skull Fragment from AQ 20 https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=21485 or the Zul'Gurub one https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=19862.

I dont mean to be questions the info on this wonderful site but are the stats on this shield correct. I picked this up last night and Im sure the stats are no where near as good as what is listed.

the stats are as follows

Drillborer Disk
Binds when picked up
Off Hand Shield
2539 Armor
46 Block
+10 Stamina
Durability 120 / 120
Requires Level 60
Equip: When struck in combat inflicts 3 Arcane damage to the attacker.
Equip: Increases your chance to block attacks with a shield by 10
Equip: Increases the block value of your shield by 23.

can anyone confirm this for me please. It is a good shield in any case. ..

Aegis of the Blood God, that drops from Hakkar in Zul'Gurub, is also a good shield to have if your guild isn't doing Molten Core yet. https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=19862

I can confirm now that these stats are real as once BC came out my shield increased to these stats...Great for me a free upgrade..

EVERY single weapon or shield I come across in thottbot has a comment section that goes something like this-

the shield now has a rotating, vortex-like effect emanating from the center. the orange ring also rotates. it looks awesome!

That won't matter much since ++ spells items only fully apply to longest casting spells...

Therefore that proc should not get much boost from ++ spells, if it even does take any.

I am not sure this proc gets any benefit from spells boosts, sounds unlikely to me

...really strange looking. Also for some reason, it sits waaaaay off my wrist.

Aside from that, it's killer. It was a nice step up from my Intricately Runed Shield, and with +2% block, enchant, it's mitigating a LOT of damage for me.

Picked it up off Garr after our MT passed on it. I'm first OT, so I'm pretty happy.

Draconion Deflector simply is not in the same league as this and higher quality shields. Drillborer Disk vs. Buru's Skull Fragment from AQ20 could be a much more interesting argument, as one mitigates damage like crazy, the Drillborer Disk shield, while the other gives +6 Defense and +200 hit points, Buru's Skull Fragment shield.

The Drillborer Disk is a 40-man raid, epic shield dropped off of Garr in the Molten Core at a very low chance. It is really no argument that it is indeed superior compared to the Draconion Deflector in all aspects, unless you need +10 Fire Resist. Did I forget to mention this shield looks way cooler than the Draconion Deflector? :)

Please, just reply this post with your choice, adding a small comment. I know, it depends by bosses, gear etc.. So, just do a choice.

My choice is, between those 3:

Buru's Skull Fragment
(with Lesser Block Shield's enchantment: +2% chance to block or +7 stamina)

Reasons: more stamina over all other stats and defense + that enchantment.

For shield spec warr/protect warr - block value is very key, but it looks like Immovable only has +2 block, + 5 stam and about the same armor ... no + to block.

I would think the DB would give a slight edge on aggro (since you get some from the 'AoE' DMG it does ... and its automatic, so when your face is smashed into the grown my motlen giants, you still doing aggro - as long as you are alive ;))

I think I have ~27% bock with DB ... and 102% when I use the 'block ability' ... so that should help a lot vs L63 bosses and stuff (might need a 115% block to guarantee ... if that's possible but every little bit helps).

I was always wondering why they put "Passive: Increases the block value of your shield by 23." , instead of placing a straight block increase to 69. Got this shield off of Garr today. Im really really hoping they enlarge it like, 2x or 3x. =(

let's see... draconian deflector has just a little less AC (doesn't matter), 10 FR, 15 defense...

15 defense is equal to about 1.8% total block/dodge/parry.

so the question is... 10 FR or .2% more to have an attack missed, 10 arc resist (instead of FR) and 3 dmg when hit...

i choose draconian and i'll save my dkp for set pieces.

I assume this has a +spell coefficient, i.e. it gets bonus damage from +spell on your gear. Anyone know about how much that might be?

judging by the fact that Blizz is getting around to upgrading the graphics for every epic dropin MC and higher instances, theyll eventually get to this. It IS a placeholder graphics coz its being place held in most lowbie areas of the world. IE all the gnomeragon guards have this sheild graphic. So eventually! unless their still doing graphics for BWL which most people wont even get to see or use for another month or so :S they should really just concentrate on one area at a time though.

This is one sweet shield. I got it 2 weeks ago and it completely owns. Garr also dropped the last binding we needed for our thunderfury, brutality blade, and the gutgore ripper. I'd say that's probably the best loot we've ever had off him at one time before.

Why do all the nice shields (except draconian) look like crap?

Rattlecage Bucker - small, weak, slightly colorful, but crap.
Gizlock's - Ok this one looks good but too tiny and everyone's tired of seeing taurens with a spinning cog on their back now.
Barrier Shield - The cheaper and easier to obtain alternative shield to this. Do enough DM ogre tributes and this shield is yours, obviously looks rather weak since it's wood, with steel trim and all, but it carries the extra block and 2% extra block rate with it.

This shield is really nice, but I saw it on a female troll warrior, it's tiny, looks like a primitive gizlock too. Only nice looking shields are Draconian, Skullflame, and Sacred Protector. One thing Blizzard needs to do with their shields is boost the size, some of them are tiny when you see a Tauren holding them.

The huge AC upgrade from Draconian to this is significant as well. http://conquest.teamgbu.com/viewtopic.php?t=470 A really good post on the myth of diminishing AC returns after 7k or 8k AC.

And yeah, it looks even worse on Tauren. Terrible, we can only hope it's a placeholder.

Since I just recently obtained a Bloodlord's Defender I am looking for a good shield to begin doing some decent offtanking for the guild. This shield definitely takes the cake on that one. I hope to obtain it when we are in MC next time.

The look of that shield is completely retarded, especially on a Tauren, i'm sorry but i'll have to say that, it looks like a piece of #@'% !

I guess if nothing new is gonna come arround with future patches i'll stick to that shield for quite a long time cause of the awesome stats but i hate the stupid look of it !

+15 defense is equal to .6% dodge, .6% parry, .6% block.

Don't forget the lesser chance to get a critical strike from mobs...

as far as i know Defense adds 0.04% per point to your parry and block, not dodge. Agility adds to dodge. The conclusions are Yours.
