The main objective of this Battleground is to make it to the other factions stronghold and kill the NPC leader. However, the Battleground has many secondary objectives that can assist your faction in the main goal. There are also a few quests that are unrelated to the success of your faction in the Battleground but offer experience and rewards.

A very, very large 40 vs 40 Battleground that is an enormous amount of fun.
Rather than explaining it all myself, Blizzard did a fine job so here's the link:

For those who do not buy the expansion I would assume their enjoyment of the game will decrease.
I know that on BDF server there are usually 1-2 people in the BG who will grind on harpies/yeti for a few levels while they get AV rep and honor. Sort of a 3-for-1 deal.
AV is very very fast for gaining reputation so if you are a new lvl 60 and need an epic or two, devote some time to AV and you will be rewarded.

Finally they fixed one of the most irritating parts of AV, according to patch notes:
"Players will no longer be able to jump onto the top of the Dun Baldar Fortress in Alterac Valley and get behind the terrain to attack other players."

Hello,
Just a quick note to all alliance players. I know this may sound obvfious, but you wouldn't believe how many get this wrong. Stonehearth Graveyard. When you coem to it, and you are a defender, do teh offense, and the entire alliance team a favour and just leave it well enough alone. You WANT the horde to have it so they spawn there instead of their own base.
Please remember this. Oh, and always have about 10-15 on D, and rest on O.

There was another batlleground Blizzard was going to release similar to AV. It would be a 40 man BG called Azhara Crater based in the Forlorn Ridge. More info can be found here:

Although this bg can be a lot of fun, it can also cause a lot of irritation and arguing among the faction. it is hard to have 40 people following directions or working together. because of this, you will find many people arguing, and losing. this bg can also turn into a huge turtle game. some of the bgs you experience will become even 2 hours long!
Along with what others said, the mount from this bg is also very cool. a lot of people have it, but who cares, saves 80ish gold.
Also, although rare, I have seen many epics/rare items drop from weird random mobs in Alterac Valley. Good luck =)

Alterac Valley can be one of the best and one of the worst battlegrounds in the game.
It has recieved many improvments over time and now it is much more player controlled and now it is a race to see who can kill other general faster.
In some cases AV can get you more honor points than any other bg because of the huge honor gain.
AV can be one of the worst bg's because in my experience people don't really work together and help out each other in AV. Some really good experiences in there were when I had a group of 25+ of people all on vent and we won about 5 AV's in 6 hours which is really good honor.
AV's can drag on forever and it is hard for melee classes to get much action since it is mostly a ranged battle. Hunters this is your place they own here and have a lot of fun.
AV rewards are also something really good to shoot for since they are good quality for casters and melee people.

You see I have been in hundreds of AVs and I'm Exalted with them. If you want rep with them you will need to do quests and go into the battle on offense killing the horde NPCs (non player characters) or if you just want honor you should stay back and protect the alliance place (Dun Buldar) the horde will be coming and make sure you are in a group so they wont kill u try to stay hidden and kill as much as you can so you can get honor.

In the new honor system this is easily one of the best ways to get honor to buy items... also it's great if you're alliance because we tend to win every single game : )

I think you both are misunderstanding.
Yes this battle ground is for level 51-70 people but it will work excactly like the Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin systems work. You have a bracket that spans 10 levels. So they will be 2 AV brackets now. One will be 51-60 as it is now, and the next will be 61-70.
So getting 1 shot by a level 70 resto druid in their Teir 5 while your level 51 isn't going to be a concern...as long as you stay in AV heh

Most people in AV just zerge the generaal to get it done with. However for more honor points now( because of new patch) you should stay on defense. That way you get more honor kills. However if you wanna grind more rep, you go and kill the npcs like drek thar etc. on offense. Another way to grind rep also is to bring in the medals and the armor scraps you get from npcs as well as players of the opposite faction. ( you get more of each item from players than you do from npcs :)

When doing this battleground decide if you are defending or attacking (Most people go attacking) If you are Defending stay with the Leader. Or by the bridge. The attacking force stay together, that is your only win. A group of 17 people is better then a group of 3 agreed?
I hope my information was helpfull.

Well in alterac valley if you wish to farm honor for Orgrimmar in the horde, then simply loot as many players as possible and bring the blood vials to the shaman inside the cave at the main base, she has a blue question mark on her head. If you hand in 5 you get 75 orgrimmar rep and 5 alterac valley rep, yet if you hand in 1 at a time you only get 10 orgrimmar rep per vial and 1 alterac valley rep.

I'd say good pvp zone overall but the only thing im really dissapointed in is the rewards now for pvp. The honor is good but the rewards I think are only really for 2 hand weapon classes, aka Unstoppable Force, many people have and a very good weapon no doubt but as a hunter I would just like a little more rewards for one of the hardest pvp zones yet.

Alterac Valley is a 40 vs. 40 man battleground with several npc's (including Lieutenants, Captians, Commanders, and a general for each team). The basic objective is to kill the opposing teams general. In order to do this you must progress down the map capturing graveyards, in order to make further points easier to capture. Also to make it easier you can kill the opposing factions captian to disable them from receiving buffs. The key strategy to winning is having a strong offense whilst still having a good enough defense to hold off the opposition. If you are unsure of where you should be, keep an eye on your map and look at the speed your team is progressing compared to the opposite team. It also helps a great deal to watch the battleground chat, and listen respectively. Your average wait for a AV game is 30mins to 1 hour, and the game itself can take up to an hour and a half, so dont bother queuing up if your short on time!

I've noticed that there's a new strategy in AV thats working quickly through the system and fixing its own flaws.. If its your wining quickly, and marks you're looking for then run strait to the enemies boss ( leader ect.) and down it ASAP.
If it's honor your looking for which you will be one way or another Youll need to either play alot more and win or accomplish things worth honor like kill the sub- bosses on your way there, take more towers, kill more of the enemy son on so forth..
评论来自

Yeah I saw this strategy in play today it was completely absurd, the game ended and the horde had more honor points then the alliance, and the alliance won. AV can be a boat load of honor, the towers and mini-bosses are really worth killing/destroying.

Step 2.
Run this script as raid leader

This is for Alliance lvl 51-60. I'd like to add a comment on the importance of securing and defending forward based graveyards to winning AV. If your goal is to down Drek then taking Frostwolf Graveyard should be your top priority. Forget about taking other graveyards along the way (except maybe Snowfall because it's easy to take). Trying to take every graveyard on your way to Drek results in an offense that gets spread out thin. The thinned out offense ends up getting easily killed by a few Horde players fighting along side Elite NPCs and when our offense, failing to capture any forward based graveyards, respawns back near Dun Baldar Alliance players find themselves on the wrong side of the Horde offense. Next thing you know instead of having a 30man offense/10man defense you have a 10man offense/30man defense with everyone arguing and talking about the good ol’ days when alliance used to own AV.
As a lvl 60 feral Druid it's easy for me to start taking over a graveyard with just one other player. I cast my two HoT spells get into bear form and pull the NPCs from the graveyard banner leaving it open for the other player working with me to assault. Being able to heal myself, and having 11k armor, the NPCs give up chasing me before they kill me.
If you have 5+ people (hopefully one tank and one healer) you should be able to kill the NPCs and the Elite NPC. With 5+ people what you shouldn’t do is have 1 person pull while everyone else runs to the banner. Why? Because the one person pulling gets killed, the NPCs return and your still working on the banner, the banner opens up right after the NPCs gang bang 1 or 2 more of your party members, the last few either die trying to counter attack or run away. Then as your spirit sits waiting to respawn back at Dun Baldar the message pops up letting you know that Horde has defended the graveyard you just assaulted…
Also until the graveyard is won it should be heavily guarded so some Horde doesn't spend 2 seconds undoing all your hard work.
As a side note, if you find yourself as a spirit back at a GY near Dun Baldar and there’s an Alliance GY up where your O is, walk your spirit to that GY and respawn there. It’s slower than riding a mount but unless your destination GY is lost on your walk there it’s a sure thing!
that was longer than I thought it would be

"some of the bgs you experience will become even 2 hours long!"
Ah, you've missed out on the good times in AV...full of NPC's, took ~3 days to play a game. You could literally play an hour or two of AV, go to bed, wake up, go to work/school/uni/commitments and log on that night to finish that game.
Good times, no sarcasm.

The fun of this battleground has gone down considerably since TBC. Back in "the good old days", as some call them, each side actually used strategies and defense in this BG. Now, all anybody ever does is zerg the opposing side. All of the side quests have been completely forgotten; since TBC I have not seen anybody turning in armor scraps or blood. It's a shame, really. Some of the best times I've had on WoW were in the old days of AV, when each side would summon their elemental lord and have an all-out brawl in the Field of Strife as the giant lords wreaked havoc.

The problem is, to get the AFK debuff on a player, 30 people need to report him/her.
It's quite likely that more than 10 players in an individual AV match are AFK, making it impossible to get the debuff (Or kick).
And as for the "no honor until in combat" thing, there are ways to get around this as well.
The amount of effort it would take to stop AFKers is immense. And IMO, not worth it.

hmm what i actually wanted to know when i looked here is what those 2 mines do and if they r strategicly worth it didnt c an answere so far.
Concerning strats at my server that place is the most stressy hell available at lvl 70 but tons of fun.
Basicly both (horde and alliance) use a destroy all on path strat with a full out 40 on attack at start, as some 70 elites go down or some skirmishes might take some of the offence down before new graveyards r taken some end up all north/south and get stuck on defence.
As i noticed a few horde always try to capture stormpike gy or some bunkers at dun baldar. (they can easilly be held of by a few men on defence) On the alliance side frostwolf towers cant be taken easilly with a smal force since you have to deal with 2ce more archers since the towers r closer together.
Both factions at my server reach warmasters within 20-25 mins mostly horde slightly later since the best point to defend for horde is frostwolf keep (horde have the adantage of only haveing to go a short distance to get in there (bit unfair maybe?)) and for allies stormpike graveyard or the bridge.
As far as ive noticed if you start the warmasters without having hold of a gy close or lose hold on (all) gy's close youve lost.
If this isnt going as a rampaging storm of enourmous power and peops r shattered you lose time everywhere and get there too late.
Finally and most important of this (way to long) comment please have an organized go at the the last showdown if you dont have some peops tanking and some healing at the warmasters ypou might as well go to the black temple and go for a nice drop on youre own.
Hope this helps and that it wasnt to long (witch it prob is)
(to show i know the bg ive won about 200 tokens so far and won about 60-70% i also end up high in amounts of dmg done)

Do u want to get 400-500Honor each run when not av weekend? And each run is around 10-15 mins... do this : Rush to sp and take it ofc, then go aid gy and bunkers.
Then u go take Sh gy and bunker, then balinda!
But someone must defend Sp and Aid station to!
Lets say 15Min x 10Rounds = 2 Hours and 30Mins.
450Honor x 10Rounds = 4500 honor on 2Hours and 30Mins!!!
5Hours = 9k Honor
10Hours = 18k Honor
And if u r crazy 15Hours = 27k Honor :)
I got 31k honor once at 13Hours whit instant Av, whit out Av weekend.
So if u need honor, this is the way u should do it and get ppl to do it!
And afkers, this is when u run around whit ppl...!

It's fun to actually try and get some other honors going. In my opinion at least.
So dont just run, get rep then kill :)

With the new Patch in place, you can now report "Afkers" or as the horde have come to call them tunnel leechers/farmers.
If you see someone in the cave and not doing anything (Havn't Moved) Right-click on the players name and then "Report for AFK"
If enough people report them, they will get a de-buff which stops them from getting honor during the game.
So there will not be many afkers around these days =)

in 2.3 that comes november 13 (2007) we will see a few changes in AV, this is what blizzard posted.
Strategy can be an important element of any battleground. We want to emphasize this in Alterac Valley more and give players additional meaning to both defending and attacking. To push the strategic element of the battleground to the next level we have changed how players maintain their reinforcements or deprive the other team of theirs.
Each team will have a starting reinforcement count. Reinforcements can be lost in significant amounts if a tower is destroyed or if Captain Galvangar or Balinda Stonehearth is killed. For each team member death, an additional reinforcement will be lost. On the death of General Drek’Thar or Vanndar Stormpike, all reinforcements are lost and the team is defeated. At any point in time, if a team is reduced to zero reinforcements, the opposing team will win the battle. Defending your own teammates, towers, and key NPCs will be an important aspect of maintaining team resources and achieving victory in Alterac Valley.
Warmasters can be the boon or the bane of any team. They are an important element for the defense of your general or the defeat of the opposing general. Warlords and their general will be more closely linked in the next patch. Pulling one is a guarantee the other will come as well. Each team begins with four Warmasters. Destroying a tower will eliminate the associated Warmaster. Unlike the current game play, however, destroying the enemy tower will not add a Warmaster to your own side.
We will be changing the pace of the battle slightly with a reduction in the time needed to control a tower or graveyard. Where it currently takes five minutes to gain control, the time will be reduced to four minutes. The honor for capturing a tower will also be increased.
Graveyards can be an important resource for getting your teammates back into the battle more quickly. Currently, players can sometimes be sent to their starting tunnels far from the battlefront. This can often be an inconvenient location to respawn and more out of the way from the action than we would like, to correct this, players will instead respawn at a team-controlled graveyard. Should the team not have a graveyard under their control, they will respawn in the starting tunnel.
Players will only be awarded bonus honor during the battle for destroying enemy towers and slaying the enemy Captain. Once the battle is concluded, bonus honor will be awarded for intact towers, a surviving Captain, and for victory in battle. The bonus honor awarded should be similar to previous totals, but will reward players for taking more active roles in Alterac Valley toward defending or attacking key locations and NPCs.
Lastly, we are changing NPC interactions within Alterac Valley. We have reduced the number of elite NPCs in Stormpike and Frostwolf holds as well as sent all Commanders and Lieutenants out of Alterac Valley. They are currently in search of other battle opportunities. This should reduce the amount of NPCs that players will have to fight and place more focus on PvP combat over key locations on the map.
Strategy is the name of the game in Alterac Valley, and these changes will bring out the need for more teamwork and coordination from both the Horde and the Alliance as they vie for domination of this battleground.

AV is much different now. Both factions start with 600 reinforcements. You gain more or less 61 honor and they lose some reinforcements if you destroy a tower, kill the captains, etc. You lose 1 reinforcement per member death. All Lieutenants and Commanders are gone. The mines are also for reinforcements. You'll experience more turtling in some games (because some people are now willing to defend the towers, etc.) but "15-20 minutes or less" games are still possible.

Actually honorpoints are awarded in multiples of 20.9
1*20.9 for every wingcommander (3) that makes it back
2*20.9 for every tower/bunker you still have in possession
2*20.9 for the surviving captain
3*20.9 for every tower/bunker you destroy
3*20.9 for the captain you killed
4*20.9 for winning
The generals don't give any honor, not for killing and not for surviving.

They made a new thing that is called reinforcments, you guys probably know about it but it never hurts to put it in here.
Basicly the horde and the allience has 500 points or "reinforcments" the first faction to run out of them looses.
To decrease the number you have to destroy/capture the apposing teams towers/bunkers etc.
This allso makes the game so that it doesnt take 4-5 hours to finish. (As a comment posted somewhere above me)
This is a really awsome Battleground. You get honor here crazy, and all you have to do is stick to a big group and be smart on when to fight.

Getting tired of losing AV marks in the mail, I got the ram and decided to do the trinket quest "Proving Grounds". Having talked with friends, it sounded simple. Having to kill the flying things in Icewing Cavern and finding the battle standard. Easy right. Well, somewhere in that cavern is an Elite 71 Yeti (one that I know of, maybe more) that I bumped into. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty and I still haven't got that trinket. Just wanted to warn those who had a similar idea to get the trinket to go with a friend or two if you want it.

"(Added 2/20) There is now a Join as Party option." - 2.4
Another BG for the overpopulated alliance in my battlegroup to run premades for... I'm not saying alliance wont have the same problem in some battlegroups but AV was the last place available for good clean Pug-V-Pug.
"Horde players will now start the battle closer to Drek'Thar and Frostwolf Keep."
- That's not too bad as even myself playing horde never really understood why we were so dang far up the map compared to my alliance characters.
"Vanndar Stormpike and Captain Belinda Stonehearth have had their health totals reduced to match the health totals of Drek'Thar and Captain Galvangar"
I never even noticed one side was more unbalanced than the other. There are other changes coming in 2.4 which i dont see as significant as these 3. But if balancing it completely brings AV queues below 2-3 hours then im happy for now.

In 2.4, hordes starting tunnel was moved to around the place where the Wildpaw Cavern was located in the south, to the right of Frostwolf Keep at the map. (As seen at the map here on Wowhead.) Hence horde players won't reach the bunkers past midfield faster than the alliance anymore.

Okay here's the deal: I want 6-7 or more ppl for rush to FW so we can cap hut/FW towers meanwhile others goes to galv(skip if heavily deffed) --->IB/TP and all gets destroyed about same time, if they're deffed enough. then after 6minutes we'll have all down and we're ready for Drek, it means 10min bg if worked as usual (95%)

Hasn't anyone noticed that to get to Vann is easier than getting to Drek?
The Horde base is multi-leveled, with towers above to shoot down on anyone coming into the base. A reasonably Horde defence can easily hold back any major Alliance offensive just by using the elite NPCs to their advantage while the Frostwolf Archers turn any live Alliance into feathery pincushions. Like it wasn't hard enough to kill Drek'thar without this added advantage to the Horde?
This is just another example of Blizzard favouritism of the Horde!...
Its fortunate they changed it to the New AV, though I would've liked to see some old AV battles played out =(
Edit: In reply to danierlsjoberq14, Bloodlust Battlegroup (US) Alliance are always owned by Horde, usually because we don't have enough players.

This is clearly alliance favored and i will give reasons why:
1-Horde Towers can be taken more easily then bunkers. With horde towers the marksman can't shoot inside the tower so alliance can easily cap that tower. Bunkers are harder to get since the marksman just turn around and shoot at whoever is getting the flag.
2-Galv's house is facing in the direction of Snowfall GY since horde LET alliance take it on the belief that it will reduce O's hardship. While balinda's house is facing in the direction of the alliance base requireing us to run a little bit further and getting the Alliance gy. Balinda summons a water elemental that can do severe dmg if not controlled properly. Balinda cannot be interupted while casting a spell. While Galv only has to hit people and fear (which lasts 6 seconds) and people keep saying that fears them outside his house, thus making him reset.
3-Horde Base is easier to get into they can take the short cut over the hill as soon as they enter our base and skip the blacksmith and the Bounty Hunters. While for the Alliance base horde dont get any shortcuts we have to get into the bunkers (re-read reason1) and when we get try to get Aid Station we HAVE TO run past the blacksmith and the bounty hunters and in the Southern Bunker there is a elite that repairs for alliance when someone uses a AoE by accident you pull him thus making it even harder for the horde part.
So stop QQing alliance its even harder on our part

This used to be my favorite battleground, when the que for it was 2 hours, and the battle itself laster about a whole day, or longer. But when the Cross-realm came, the battleground changed into a giant Zerg-fest. Pity.
But 1 of the most important things to remember, when fighting you're enemy's general : Never walk out of the room when you aggro, this wil reset the general, and you have to start killing him all over again. Seen this a 100 times, really painfull when he is at 2% or somehting.

-Alliance: wait till 61-70 if you need marks, unless you can stand 1 mark every 30 minutes AND getting stomped on by the Horde
-Dumb: get the F*** out of AV

I have played many many avs -only as horde- and after evaluation i concluded that:
Alliance wins a lot more avs than horde, ratio must be about 8:1
From my personal experience, there have been days that horde couldn't win (1) one av bg while i was playing 10+ hours av.
Why ?
Map setup favors alliance both for attack and defence
a) Alliance can reach horde base immediately -they can even avoid door jumping fence- and cap FY Towers and Relief Hut there aren't horde NPCs to pull near so horde can't defend as alliance can
b) Alliance base has a bridge which is the ONLY way for horde to reach the alliance base and alliance can easily do not permit any1 to pass plus DB towers are in range and archers start to fire! a lot of wipes there, DB towers and Aid station has many -maybe 25- ally NPCs near so a horde player usually when he fights ally player he pulls NPCs too, ally know that and try to activate as many NPC as possible making the attack of horde easily to wipe
c) Alliance needs much fewer people to defend their base cause of the above facts so more ally players can assist attack
d) Balinda is closer to SH gy, Galv is a bit more far from IB gy so Balinda can be defended a lot easier.
Alliance players have noticed all these and farm honor, they get 4x the honor and marks at least horde gets, that means inbalance in pvp if an ally gets for example (3) three merciless items when a horde gets only (1) one!
as soon as a horde player joins an av he almost knows beforehand that it is a loss, not very good job from blizzard side

As many know, the team looses one reinforcement per member who dies, but I think it is why MANY think, killing the tohers is the fastest way to win. In my PvP gear, I have 345 resiliience, but I still fiend it pretty hard to reach the hordes base thruogh the middle, and most often, then cap Snowfall GY, and hordes hitting north ALLWAYS stop to kill me, when they are hitting north. Many NE rogues farms in the middle aswell. On our battlegroup (Conviction), it is even between alliance and horde in AV, while horde wins way more in AB, WSG and EoTS.

Man i still remember the good old days of WoW back when this BG took HOURS to beat and took real strategy, i remember when i just got to 60 and i tried this out...it was amazing, the ways to boost your forces, the strategy for killing generals. Anybody else miss those days? this went from reducing HP to taking away units...and now they took away the leutenants, sheesh it used to take real skill and determination to win this, now its all just Rush, Turtle and Zerging. theres no funleft in this place except for killing the boss. and now they got this reinforcemnt thing that i hate and it makes sure this BG goes by quickly.in my opinion they should have 2 things for this 1 as it is rushign and Zerging then a diff version just like the good old days.

4. Kill Drek'Thar
Horde:1. Capture Snowfall Graveyard
2. Kill Captain Balinda Stonehearth
3. Capture all graveyards and bunkers in this order: Stonehearth Bunker and Graveyard, Icewing Bunker, Stormpike Graveyard, Dun Buldar North and South Bunkers.

I am new to WoW and have only been playing for the past 5 months and just fought my first AV battle and thought it awsome. However after reading these posts have come to the conclusion that it would be Awsomest(G.W.Bush lessons.) if it would last longer so that us noobs could figure out whats going on. I felt like a chicken with my head cut off. I just ran around blindly trying to stay alive and attacking anything that another alliance player was fighting. Couldn't tell if it was friend or foe. Got some scrap something or others off a pvp I killed and before i could figure out what to do with it the darn fight was over. I would really love to play a battle for an hour or two. That would be really cool. Where stealth and strategy where gods and not the " Duh...Huh?" that I just was a part of. LOL... Great idea, going to have to download Benny Hill song. It totally fits to that debotchery of something that sounds was great and wholesome once.

This Bg is fun, but it is a little bit easy (at least on my realm).
From the comments before I make up that the former version of AV was more tactical and was a real warfare while this is more a skirmish. They should have kept those 3 hours to 3 days AV's and that you could get to them trough a special battlemaster somewhere, but the new ones should be kept for people who have a reason why they can't play for 3 days and can only play max 1 hour at the time. By my realm is the problem a little bit different. It seems that at least in my realm, Hellfire, there aren't enought alliance players who go into the Bg so the horde (who is honest not because of this my side) can destroy all while the little amount of alliance players who
are
in the Bg are trying to hold the defeat as long away as possible for 6 -18 against 35-40. I have no idea why there are so few alliance players who play this Bg and I feel very sorry for the alliance players who actually try to play this and get totally pwned because the lack of numbers. Some players are probably not playing because of the lack of numbers, but I don't know why the main group of alliance players rather play other Bg's than AV. If it is because of the numbers, maybe you should go in groups. Can an alliance player from Hellfire realm if he wants to pls tell me why the alliance almost doesn't play AV? Not only do you miss the fun of the Bg, but (I am not accusing you) you are also taking the fun away from the few alliance players who do try to play the Bg and some hord players who rather have fun figthing PvP, than just slaughtering npc's and winning the Bg without much difficulty. the Bg's where created to have free PvP without fearing for higher lvl players and npc's who try to kill you while you are PvPing.
This was much longer than I had intended, but I felt somebody should say this load of stuff I have typed down here.

I have never played before the summer before WOTLK but I hate the fact that the game is so short and you can't do anything special like summoning the big guy because the gathering of the stuff takes too much time. It is also annoying that people at the moment have the idea to just with almost everybody go trying to kill the general while I and a few hordies try to prevent from getting everything wrecked by the alliance (they usually wreck it). I think most of the players would like if the old version came back, because that is almost certain more fun with all special things it has.

As of patch 3.2.2, Alterac Valley honor and experience have been cut in half, and all 40 people on each side will have to be in the queue for the game to start. Also, the brackets have been changed to that of the other battlegrounds, like 60-69, 70-79, etc.
Edit: Heirloom items work in battlegrounds now as well.

For those of you current players that never got to experience the classic pvp system in its full glory this was the premier battlground of the day. It is in my opnion, the battleground that needs a revamp the hardest.
A breif explanation of the older contents:
Tokens from killed players or enemy NPC's used to be used for different raid buffs from sending extra elite troops, Air raids, and an epic boss that would assault the opposing base if the right amount of tokens were colleted. I cannot recall but Ive only seen the boss twice in the game myself. One was of elemental type (horde) and the other was a giant trent (allies)
Each time a player was killed by this boss (if i remember correctly) the summonable raid boss would get bigger and heal a little bit. you had to protect the boss till it could survive on its own but after it got big enough it was devastating and a wonder to behold.
What happens nowadays (on nightfall battlegroup)
Allies first cap snowfall (correct me if Im wrong on names of places pls) the neutrel grave in the center of the map. Then they assault the secondary raid boss that provides a group buff to the horde, then they take each tower and grave the rest of the way. If Im right each tower still in place provides an extra elite to defend the respective general so towers are important. Remember that each grave cap reduces travel time to the opposeing gerneral so they cap those as much as possible as well.
Allies useing this tend to win AV alot. Horde tends to try and race them and that often does not work very well.
The horde attempt for the most part to mirrior the allies tatic and they tend to fail for whatever reason. What I have noticed is that when horde tries to defend and recap horde often gets enough time to assualt and defeat the alliance general. Provided that the defence works in coordinated (rarely) groups horde tends to win.
Things that would fix/restore the old AV:
I would like to see the tokens usefulness restored. An inrease to reinforcements through tokens? or maybe just an increase to reinforcements period might make the tokens a valid option agian. Beefing up the bosses to where the tokens are needed to win would be very cool imo. There is never any straight conflict because both sides see it as just a DPS race.
It would be even funnier if they decided to make the generals leave to assault the other base after a given timelimit. Just some random wishing and thoughts

Sigh i miss the old Alterac so much, a couple of days ago i was in a typical AV, rush to galv (im alliance) get TP, IBT rush RH then cap fw and wait...so boring so after that game i wanted to try and spice it up a bit, i went on Defence and got enough armor scraps to get us to veteran defenders got all 3 gryphon masters home almost had calvary units come in got two mines and finally was able to get the druids to summon the Tree boss but after all that i looked at reinforcements and saw horde had 6 reinforcments left....sigh all that for nothing AV just isn't fun anymore bosses, tactics, strategy using supplies and items all it is now is rushing.
probably never gonna happen but i wouldn't complain if they brought back classic AV

I had a very amazing experiance in AV recntly in the 51-60 bracket. Both teams had around 200 reinforcements left with 2 towers captured each. Large fronts of advancing armies met at the middle right around Tower Point. We then proceded to beat the opposing team silly in what i can only describe as the most fun and interesting 15 minutes of my entire career of WoW playing. I have an 80 Warrior and an 80 Shaman who i leveled all the way from 51-80 in AV and never NEVER had this occured. I would be extremely pleased if Blizzard made a BG that was extremely similar to this experiance. Maybe something similar to WSG in size but with some towers and strategic holdings THAT ARE NOT CAPTURABLE! the only goal of the Battleground will be to eliminate the other team's set amount of reinforcements (200)?
I appologize for poor spelling on my part but i need to get back to my leveling of my Hunter to see if this happens again.

Saxong-80 Dreanai Shaman
Kaleanon-80 Night Elf Hunter

The most important thing here is to leave a team to defend, and another team to attack the enemy boss.
I see players don't defend and all go to Offense. They lost a couple of times then still they thought Offense is good.
I played Defense here so it was OK.
And leave at least 5 healers, 5 DPS and some DoT, CC Classes here so that it makes harder for enemy team to kill the boss.

with voice software, you can communicate players from different realms, which means you can play AV with well geared players, and at least 30 organized army man vs other 40 unorganized ones, especially better for the short queue time faction which makes most of the organized ones can get in the exact battleground as you want.So this is AV pre-made team. Also works for isle of conquest.

Even though they're probably never going to change AV back to what it was, a good option would then be to make another AV, like, Alterac Valley(A) (# of Queue) - the current one, and then Alterac Valley(B) (# Queue) - the pre-TBC, proper, and most WARcraftish instance/zone in the game. And maybe reactivate the old entrance, so that players that wanted the old one, entered through that portal, and doesn't get mixed up with the other BG in their battleground menu.
Thats just my opinion, i think it would be great for all of us that prefer the original one than the current fast/slow and right out of the original plot of AV. And those who doesn't want to have it, could just join the current one...
Please don't downrate or flame me, it's just an opinion...
-----------
by the way, did blizzard change AV xp in 3.3.3? At the 51-60 brackets, i got half a level (10/20 xp bars) for each time my side won, i got it on each lvl from 55 to 58 yesterday, haven't joined another one again too see if it's the same for 58, was getting late. Anyway, at each of those winning rounds, we had usually only max 1-2 towers destroyed, no graveyards lost and our captain were also alive in about 75% of those rounds, we had 1 Wing Commander returned, and we had captured about 1 or two of their towers, both mines and killed their captain.. The result each round was 0 reinforcements to the enemy faction, but we were also pretty close, we usually went down to 40-100 before they reached 0. Anyone else got this in the current patch at higher lvl BG queues? Seems to me that the xp in BGs are boosted alittle again, and yes i have the chest and shoulder heirloom.
Sorry for all the text though.
Edit: Just noticed, i only receive around 10-40% exp each winning round now at most, no matter what many assets we have, this is though in the 61-70 brackets, but i do think i got the same value in the 51-60 bracket one or two times at lvl 52, when it was not Call to Arms, i think i might have been a little blind to not realize that Call to Arms that week had any experience effect, i have always thougt that CtA only gave more honor. Correct me if im wrong here.

To those of you complaining you can't seem to queue for AV:
#1 - What level are you?
#2 - Is it currently the Call to Arms?
In the 51-60 bracket, you'll get AVs pretty easily for two reasons. First, it's the first bracket that AV becomes available, and at that level range the XP gain is extremely good, so a lot of people swap to AV at L51, level to 60 in it and use the honor to buy a few pieces of Marshal gear to hit up Outland in style. Secondly, Death Knights. People make 'em just to trash AV, and so on. It means a lot more people available to get the battle going.
From 61 to 79, it can be very iffy. XP really slows down in AV if you're losing, especially if it's outside of the Call to Arms weekend. Because of that, and because the DK rush gets on more and more equal footing to other classes in terms of gear as they level up, the number of people who try to level from AV drops off. If you're not currently in a Call to Arms weekend, don't be surprised that it takes a long time to queue, if you can even get a match at all. This of course also varies from battlegroup to battlegroup and how inclined your group is to actually do PvP in the first place.

We had a great AV a day ago. It was over an hour and we were tied up until the last when we (i play alliance) summoned Ivus. The horde we were fighting didnt know who he was and tried soloing him and died and he took about 100 resources out of them and then charged Drek. We also had champion soldiers and sent out two airstrikes.

Yes. It's a high-level instanced PvP map, and now, the level requirement is 51.
If you're Alliance and go to the alliance entrance, you can try to enter through the red portal (raid), just like in WG. However, it will say "Must be Alliance and level 51 to enter."
I'll assume the same restriction is in place for the Horde entrance.

well I hear alot of you ... on greymane AV is becomming the main stage for high end PvP instances. So much so that You can hardlly find a group for a WSG anymore.
Alteric is not meant for the power PvPer who wants to get in and get out fast to level his rank quickly. In all the times I have done it, it has never lasted less then an hour. Today, it was a 4.5 hour stint to victory. Very hard earned indeed, but rewarding all together.
So If you are looking for the quick track to AV ... sometimes you will be able to just walk right in ... others ... it may take hours ... be patient, the experience you will have is well worth the wait, especially if you happen across a hard earned, well fought out battle ... Win or lose.

Well, I've read all above, and it doesn't really answer any n00bie question reg AV. It didn't answer for me, at any rate. So, here's my input for those new to AV (it's by no means safe to assume to be correct, mind - my own first experience report only):
Basically, it's a PvP instanced zone where several groups of Alliance fight the Horde groups. It has several vital strategic points guarded by NPCs of your faction, and now - you. You'll see the opposing faction trying and take over those points, killing you and the NPC guards. As far as I understand it, if a point is overrun, all the protecting NPCs killed, that points changes colour and starts spawning the new owners guards instead. So you have to intercept any enemies, and try and capture some enemy points in turn.
When you kill someone, you can loot their body for loot - nothing of their true gear, just some special AV loots. It is soulbound, at least what I got. Also, you need to loot quick, or someone else will. Also, when you yourself die, and get looted, you respawn not at a graveyard but near the entrance - I got a message that read something like 'your insignia taken, can't resurrect at graveyard' or some such. So maybe it makes sense to 'release spirit' fast, don't know.
There are some non-PvP quests inside, but you'll be facing lvl 52+ elites, so plan accordingly. Dont' know about the reward. I m only lvl 56, so couldn't solo it.
Also, it is pretty easy to die in AV at lvl 56. I died maybe 20 times within 1-2 hours. No gear damage I don't think. However, I saw lots of other people die lots too. It's one big fight between two factions, so you get jumped upon all over the place, from solo fights somewhere on-route from the graveyard with some sneaky infiltrator rogue or druid, to large scale several groups vs several groups to take/defends a tower, for example.
It's good clean messy fun tho. I started to enjoy it after about half an hour into it. And enjoyed it very much, so I would recommend AV.
However, I still have questions. What to do with the loot? How and when is the battle won/lost (I couldn't see the end of it, so just zoned out - and behold - got branded as a deserter!)? How do I get ranks (it's my first PvP experience altogether, I am on a PvE server)?
Thank you,
For the Horde!

Flavor items from player loot in Alterac Valley will now stack and can be sold for a small value. These are items like Documents from Boomstick Imports, Worn Running Shoes, etc.
Players in Alterac Valley will no longer drop Darkspear Troll Mojo, Dwarf Spines, Forsaken Hearts, Human Bone Chips, Orc Teeth, etc. and the quests have been removed for these items. Instead when a player is slain in Alterac Valley, any enemies that were in that player's threat list will gain 1 point of reputation with either the Frostwolf or Stormpike factions.
Frostwolf and Stormpike faction will now be gained by killing players of the opposite faction. Reputation will no longer be split up among the entire raid group.
Tower Banners in Alterac Valley can no longer be used through walls.
Korrak the Bloodrager and his band of trolls have packed up their bags and left Alterac Valley for greener pastures.

I was in AV the first day as soon as I reached lvl 51 with my orc shaman (the minimum level requirement for the battleground) and after a few battles, was already honored. So it doesn't take nowhere near a week to get honored. Even if the Horde in fact DOES lose most of the time, we did manage it to take Stormpike down a couple of times and get the win, but the most honor-accumulating tactic is, to kill as many elite NPCs (NOT players) of the other faction, then if the time allows, summon Lokholar the Icelord, and if the Alliance has't made it yet to defeat our boss, to take down Stormpike. (Easy once Lokholar is summoned and being healed by us) . :)
While killing the elite NPCs and bosses of the other faction of course earns the most honor and reputation, also keep in mind that you get a honorable kill (with honor depending on the player's level and rank) as well as 1 reputation point for any player of the other faction your group takes down. :)
So while it is EASY to get a good reputation with the AV guys, I'm (and most likely a lot of people on my server) having a hard time to get the reputation up with WSG and AB, since, from 50-59, there may be 3 WSGs a day; most likely in a time when I'm at work :( and maybe if you are lucky one f*cking Arathi Basin...last time I spent like 12 hours in a queue and no battleground (wsg and ab) took place, while the AV was still going on and on and on.

Just a couple of pointers for a succesful and usually quick AV match:
1) Capture the graveyards, as many as you can, as fast as you can. You capture the graveyards, youve already half won it.
2) Don't just capture the Gravyard then move to the next, leave a group of 2 maybe 3 people to lookout for horde and stop any rogues from capping them.
3) Stay grouped! On all the AV's I've been on where players just throw themselves at the opposing faction and don't stay grouped, those are the ones that lose, very quickly.
4) Keep the opposing faction distracted. Get a large group of maybe 15-20 people to just go up and start a big fight, while the another large group captures or destroys the tower or graveyard nearby.
5) Only turn in your items in small groups. If there is suddenly a mass turn in of items that you collect in the battlefield, who's stopping the opposing faction from taking over?
Good luck ^_^

Just wanted to note that teh honor given for winning AV has been significantly nerfed. Now AV games give around 200 - 300 per game.

Word is all the good alliance veteran players went to lv 70. Alliance owns in lv 61-70 bracket. Most veteran players also do arena now too.
Alliance lose pretty bad in lv 51-60 bracket, lose 95% of the time. Too many new guys who don't know teamwork, listening or what to do in first place. Even been told that most of the players in the lv 51-60 bracket don't know what to do & won't listen to the people who do.
How bad is it? I was in a group of 20 players and five were lv 51 because they want that ice barbed spear (way way too many low levels for whatever reason). When we're pulling warmasters I can shout "Stay on the hill!" "GET BACK" "ONLY ONE PULLER (me)" "NOBODY PULL" about 7 different ways before I go in & single pull IceWing Warmaster. But when I turn around & go out I see somebody else agro 3 warmasters >_<. There is leadership & people who are smart playing on alliance, but without people who follow what the smart ones are saying (like above example) its very very hard to win.
TIPS
*STAY TOGETHER on offense! Even if you're just 10 people, if you're in a tight close group you'll overpower & get any horde node 99% of the time.
*LISTEN & FOLLOW ORDERS. Can't work as a group then no teamwork = FAIL.
*FIGHT AT THE FLAG. Not around the corner, not 20 feet away, not 15 feet away. FIGHT AT THE FLAG. Too many times we're fighting around the corner, not being smart, & the horde recaptures a node.
*Take out all towers. For every horde tower you
destroy a marshall is added to ally general's room & a warmaster is removed from horde general's room. Opposite is true for horde destroying ally bunkers.
*Leave 2 in each tower you cap till it burns or horde will take it back
*Leave 3 at Graveyard you capture or horde will take it back
*don't pull warmasters until you have relief hut & all horde towers destroyed
*STAY ON THE DAMN HILL: only one person should be pulling.
*kill horde BEFORE they get into Drek's room (Put a freeze trap on that ramp)
*Kill horde on the bridge, put a freeze trap on bridge & let the archers from bunkers help rip them to shreds
*Let horde have StoneHearth or Snowfall GraveYard...or else they'll keep rezzing on a defensive node (like IceBlood GY) making it hard for offense to take it.
Good luck & have fun

Been in AV 3 times now, each match lasting over an hour and a half (did the barb Q for one of them tho so I didnt notice).
Last night was an impressive stalemate.
The Horde ripped the allies apart and pushed them back to just before the bridge. But the corner there everything stalled. The ally mages, locks and hunters can freely sit by/on the bridge and spam AoEs on that corner. The melees are engaged with our horde frontline. With the ranged troops unable to hit each other and any large assault being AoEd to death it got stuck for over an hour. The alliance managed to push us back once by a huge rolling AoE storm (casters taking it in turns, moving forwards a few steps and AoEing and max range again) that swept down the road. Horde players were literally hurling themselves off the road and down the hill to avoid it. The lightshow was damn impressive tho...2 blizzards and a hellfire landing on the heads of a half dozen players tends to reduce them to corpses fast O.o

I just finished a 70 AV.. and have never been so disappointed with the Horde EVER. Not because we are losing, but everyone has turned into total prixors. I was in at 68, and everyone jumps my ass saying i need to leave, cuz i had a couple greens. I just wanted to say, with all those idiots running around capping stuff too early, screwing around, afking, that a couple greens shouldn't be that big of deal. I AM A GOOD PLAYER, I ROCK MY HUNTER, AND I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING. So anyone that would choose someone with all epics over someone that isnt going to treat u like ur a piece, F off. Sorry if i have a life, and havent had countless hours to devote to epics like some of u "cool" ppl. u can take them and shove them imo.

Here in the new patch 2,3 .
they added "reinforcements"
each team start with 600/600
when the ohter team in on 0 - you will win.
destroying towers and killing enemies bosses - will lower your enemies reinforcement.
You can still win by killing the ohter teams boss.

....
if you capture the mines - you will slowly get a little more reinforcements!

I have decided that with the new Patch 2.3 implementations to AV, that I should analyze this and post it near the top.
<<<HONOR GLITCH>>>>
If you have assualted a tower/bunker, but the game has ended before it capped, do not leave the battleground. Wait for them to cap so that you can get the bonus honor. I've checked the combat log, you do still recieve it. Me and 4 others gained 124 bonus honor that the rest of the group didn't. This works whether your team has won or lost. I have implemented an alternate strategy for honor farming. Scroll to the bottom.
Honor has been "balanced" to fit more to the map objectives. You get bonus honor for destroying a tower/bunker, killing Galv/Balinda, keeping your own Towers/Bunkers intact, and for downing the final boss.
With the introduction of Reinforcements, play style has drastically changed. Your team starts with 600 reinforcements. Each time one of your teammates dies, your team loses a point. When Balinda/Galv are killed, you're team loses 100 points. Each tower/bunker destroyed takes approximately 75 points. The final boss causes you to lose all remaining points, so if the boss dies, game over. If your team gets "turtled" and is unable to progress, after 600 deaths have occured to your team, it's game over.
People believe that with this new system in place, you have to rush your opponents to gain the advantage. This, sadly, isn't the case.
With the new changes, you can no longer pull the guards in the room of the final boss outside of the fortress. Doing so causes all of them to reset. What this means is that it is virtually impossible to take the fortress without your full team in there fighting.
There is a solution, however. With each tower/bunker destroyed, one guard despawns. If your team destroys each of the opposing team's towers/bunkers, then the boss is wide open for an assault with 20+ of your team.
This obviously puts more focus on towers/pve than pvp, in theory. However, in practice, things are a bit different.
The natural opening move is to rush the first general. It takes 100 points from your team, so is obviously the best move, right? Wrong! Look at the way the game must play out. There are two ways.
1) Cause your enemy to slowly run out of reinforcements.
2) Slowly progress to the boss for a swift win.
If you try to kill the first general, then you are assuming that you are going to be killing players to win. Therefore you recieve less bonus honor (since you don't kill the final boss), and the game takes longer (since you are slowly killing players instead of progressing).
Furthermore, while trying to kill the general, you will often run into the opposing team trying to defend it. Since not only do you have them on you, but the boss, you will quickly die and lose reinforcements, and your team will be pushed back (often leading to turtling and a guaranteed loss).
The fact remains that you MUST skip the general, no matter how much you want to.
STRATEGY: Upon entering the AV, prep your team so they know what to do. Have 30 of your team rush to the Iceblood Graveyard. Along the way have 2-3 of your team pick up the Snowfall/Frostwolf Graveyards so that those dying at IBGY don't get pushed back too far. Whoever takes control of IBGY first usually takes the game. After you have succesfully taken IB, have your team wait there until it caps. After it caps, two people must be left there at all times, if not more.
ALLIANCE: After taking IBGY, split your team. Send half to Iceblood Tower, and half to Tower Point. Again, have them stay until it caps. After this, have your team move out to FWGY, and keep 3-5 on IBGY. Generally this is where the horde have the biggest resistance. Take this and it's almost over. While fighting at FWGY, send a rogue or two into their base to ninja the East/West Frostwolf Towers. Once FWGY is taken, you can relax your grip on SFGY and IBGY, and have your team shift southward. Now you are in the Horde's home turf. Guard the towers until they cap, and send a few to take out the Frostwolf Relief Hut. Once the towers are down and the RH is in your posession, you can declare "ALL IN" and rush Drek. Game.
HORDE: After taking IBGY, head north to SFGY. Once this is taken the Alliance lose their foothold into your territory. After this it is easy to "turtle" them at their base (draws out the game, but a win is a win). Progress to Stonehearth Bunker (taking SHGY in passing), then head to Icewing Bunker. Splitting the team is optional if you want to speed up progression, but if the Alliance has a decent defense up, it may be wiser to stay together. Move north to Stormpike Graveyard and it's almost over. It's wise to take the Stormpike Aid Station before assaulting the bunkers, as this will push the entire defense further south, leaving the base wide open for your offense. Knock out the Dun Balder North/South Bunkers, and Van will no longer have guards defending him. Declare "ALL IN" and game.
MINOR STRATEGIES:
1) Send rogues into the mines. If the fight is going to be drawn out, you can gather resources here.
2) Take Galv/Balinda only if your team is unable to progress further than that. If your offense isn't strong, chances are you won't be reaching the boss anyway.
3) Sending rogues in to ninja base Graveyards can be helpful for destroying the opponent's defence in worse-case scenarios since you no longer respawn at your starting point if there is still a GY intact.
4) Have those on defense do their turn-ins. Improved guards and bombers (even a raid-level boss if you're good enough) can have a significant impact on the game. Obviously this shouldn't be the main focus.
5) You get bonus honor for having your own Bunkers/Towers intact at the end of the game. If you can keep 1-2 defending each one, you can slow your opponents down a notch, and maybe keep one or two up by the time the game ends.
I hope this guide is as good to you as the strategy was to my teams.
I am Harmonex of Lightning's Blade. Shadow Priest. Maybe some of you remember me when we were winning on Day 1 of the changes.
Since you can still get honor from towers/bunkers even if the game has ended, win or lose, this sparks a new style of play. Obviously if your team doesn't defend, the opposing team will win the game fast. Have your team focus only on assaulting the towers/bunkers. Don't worry about defending your own. Let the enemy cruise through. If we can get both sides to learn to do this, the game will end in 7 minutes. The honor per hour from doing this is probably greater than fighting for a win.

Blizzard has nerfed the Holiday Weekend bonus honor. Originally you would get double the bonus honor that it stated you were awarded (didn't show in your log, but was in your estimated). Now, you only get the holiday bonus from destroying all of your opponents' Towers/Bunkers, AND killing their general. The bonus is equal to 4 honor kills.
So let's recap the total honor you can get from here, not including the honor from killing enemy players.
3 hk for every tower/bunker destroyed.
3 hk for killing a captain.
4 hk for killing the general.
2 hk for having your captain survive.
2 hk for every tower/bunker of yours standing.
4 hk for destroying all towers/bunkers and killing the general.
You can earn up to 29 hk per game as a bonus, with an extra 4 on holidays. That's 33 hk. At 70, one hk is worth 20.9 honor. That totals 689.7 bonus honor at most.

Too often I hear people say.."we won this 4 times in a row by doing..."
I think the most important general winning strategy is this: whatever the leader or acting leader says, all follow, don't argue. In this battle, time is not on our side, and whatever we decide to do, we must do quickly.
There are, however, pros and cons to several so called 'winning' strategies:
1. "Rush RH...do not stop for anything else"
This is very risky, but it does sometimes work, mainly because it is not a commonly employed strategy, and the horde are not expecting it. It is a surprise tactic, and as surprise tactics go, work best only when they are not used often, and therefore unexpected. The more we use this, the less it will work. It is also very very risky, because those who die during this have to ress all the way back at home base, and are at a severe disadvantage trying to get all the way back to the action. If doing this, decrease risk by leaving some defense at SFGY.
2. "cap IBGY, then towers, then RH, then Drek"
This is a more conservative and commonly employed strategy. The good thing about this is that, even if we do not win, we will still come out with some honor from capping the towers. When employing this strategy, people need to also remember to HOLD the towers until they cap, and HOLD IBGY until we cap a better GY. If one were interested in Honor, this is probably the best way to go.
3. "Rush IBGY, then Galv"
The average AV battle at the time of this writing lasts 20 or so mins. Theoretically Galv is good to kill, but taking the time to do so robs us of time needed to cap a tower or two. Trying to kill Galv puts us at a disadvantage trying to win the game. However, people do sometimes actually win doing this, but only if there is a solid team in place of both offense and defence. (I would rather count on strategy number 2 than count on us having a solid team...) However, sometimes as BG leader I have given in to this because others were insistant and I saw the futility of arguing with them, and it was better to get Galv over with quickly than split our forces.
4. "Galv first"
Yes, we usually do succeed at this, and yes, we get our 62 Honor points, but when I asked in a battleground what the plan was after this, my answer was "lose as usual". So succinct..that is the likely result of this plan. Yes, this does cause horde to lose 100 reinforcement points, but they quickly make up for that. If doing this, leave some defense at SFGY, then plan to cap IBGY. My preference is to save Galv for battle end..if we know we cannot win, then we cap him for honor.
Whatever strategy we like, we also cannot blindly stick to our 'fave' strategy all the time. Every battle is slightly different, and one must also be willing to change tactics as the situation demands.

I get the feeling that most of these posts were written by alliance players.. and may not be up to date cuz nowadays, you can pretty much expect the same thing every game.
heres what i've seen and how to counter it:
the most common alliance strategy is to zerg straight to releif hut- a few stop at galv and kill him, and 2 usually stay to D each tower, but the raid focus is on the frostwolf keep.
theres 3 ways to counter this strategy:
1- set up all defense at the releif hut flag and try to fight off the initial zerg. if successful they will all die and get sent back to snowfall or whatever they have capped. you can then retake the frostwolf towers which will usually have onesies and twosies trying to D them. once you take back the towers you can set up int he choke point between the towers and get ready to fend them off again. even if you fail the second time, it's ok cuz you probably bought O the time it needs.
2- set up all defense at the iceblood choke point, between IB tower and IB gy. everyone's focus must be to stop them in their tracks. have a few wait on the road between TP and IB gy to clean up the lucky runners but all others just fight and hold IB not letting any past. also, it's a good idea to keep some in iceblood tower so that it doesnt get capped, the archers are a huge help with this strategy and the mine is almost a necessity because this will make it a long fight.
3- kill bal, and then work your way back to FW graveyard taking back iceblood tower, GY, and tower point. at that point the allies will probably have attacked the releif hut and the FW towers but with two warmasters up they will not be able to kill drek. at this point, with just a few defenders harassing the allies in the keep, they will just sit there and try to defend the releif hut and not even do anything big about TP and IB. just defend those two towers and wait for offense to do it's job.
The big idea is that horde CANNOT win av without defense anymore. the allies can zerg straght to RH unhindered.
remember our npc's dont aggro, and our archers dont have much LOS anyway.
the whole idea is to buy time for the offense, and the more towers you can keep, the more honor you will get.
also, i have a question because i havent been able to prove or disprove something i heard, do we get extra honor for our flight masters reaching our base alive? and what about kill the enemy's? and also what about for holding the mines?

Alterac is the best bg for honor points but it SUCKS for horde on my server. We always have less ppl than alliance, the alliance always just run directly to our graveyard near the boss cuz the map favors them like hell. And by that i mean they have a bridge and we friggin plains and a few slopes.
Thier npcs r all bunched up, ours r seperated into groups......
Our hordies almost never win T_T

any1 else miss the old av? i remember the 1st time i joined, not knowing what to expect. it was the most epic thing i had ever seen.(i know som1 will throw a raid dungeon in my face here) it was huge with irs own mobs. you could just kill npcs that had nothing to do with the battle t he whole game if you wanted to, and there were so many quests, i grinded av until i was 52, a whole level from a bg. i finaly got another charicter to 51 after losing my account and being inactive for a long time. i was incredibly disapointed. av used to be an epic stuggle, now its just above 30 mins. you never see lokk or the alliance raid boss getting summoned anymore(not in the 51-60s anyway, and i hear it just goes by faster in higher brackets) i miss haveing 4 hour turtles untill some1 summoned lokk or the riders. i know ppl want honor and marks fast, but i wish those ppl would just go to the arena, av was one of the funnest things you could do without any preparation, now its a cheap &*!@#.

I'd also like to add this, like some others have:
If you're of lower level or don't happen to have the best gear,
don't be afraid to enter AV!
(Or any other BG, for that matter) I'm so tired of 70's with epic gear dogging low level/low geared players because they aren't "good enough." This game is about having
fun.
Just remember that those 70's that are insulting you were at low levels with crappy gear at one point too, and they're no better than you.

Does anyone got an idea what has been happening with AV lev80?
Everytime i enter, Ally is outnumbered enormous.
Like 5 ally against 40 horde and after 5 minutes, it's game over, " not enough people"
As a horde it's easy honor for me,like about 1000 each game. But still, i wonder what has been going on.
Is this only at my realm Laughing Skull or is this become a global problem

I was going to ask the exact same thing. I'm on the Alonsus server and it's the same thing. Looks like it's global. What the hell is wrong with AV? It's the only BG with nearly no alliance players. Surely this isn't normal? Does someone have an explanation?

Ok guys im just telling you this......
i hate it when we (the Horde) are really low on reinforcements and everybody starts trying to defend the towers and what not. there are like 5 ppl who are waiting to get vann but nobody helps out. everyone starts going to the SOUTH when we should really be heading up NORTH so that at least we hve a little bit of a higher chance of winning by getting vann.
it also annoys me when im trying to encourage everyone to help out in killing vann, but then ppl are like:
"then go kill him yourself"
or
"we're low on reinforcements and we're gonna lose anyway. just log off so u can get it over with"
or
"we need to focus on the towers" - when we're have like 100 reinforcements left
im just saying that if u dnt hve something nice to say THEN DON'T SAY IT
just because ur mad that we're not winning, u dnt hve to make such a big deal about it and hurt other ppls feelings
its just a game guys
RELAX and please show some respect for others
p.s. if ur on the Rivendare server (or any server actually) please please remember this...
the point of WoW is to have fun, not boss people around and get others mad

Here is a strategy that hasn't failed me yet. It is only when the players in the raid group whom are doin playing their rolls correctly, that you will win. There is no one set only way to win anything in this game, it all depends on if your playing your roll correctly.
Here is a guide that I do not mind sharing, that has helped me win Alterac Valley countless times. This is a strategy for the horde side.
I will make a list on how to do this then i will go into detail more.
1. Horde must always play defense in Alterac Valley. The map is set up so that alliance win if Horde play offense.
2. Horde should only go as far as Balinda, Capping towers and graveyards along the way.
3. After Balinda (or if there is still time) track back to Galv. and try to defend him, if not Track back to Drek's Room and defend.
4. For extra PVP and to have some fun in A.V., go to where Frostwolf keep starts and Turtle in the front entrance, so that if alliance get inside you can kill on your way back to front entrance.
--In alterac Valley, the horde must always play defense. Alliance have a shorter path to take and have more graveyards plotted on the map then Horde do. Thus instead of going straight for Vann. and getting the regular comment of "JUST ZERG VAN WE CAN WIN ZERGZERGZERG", take it slower and lay off the offense :P. And also if you play defense you will always gain more honor because you are at the front line of fighting, thus collecting all of the honor where as if your at the other side of the map where no one is except NPCs you gain no honor (It's also a blast xD)
--Like I said in the last paragraph, only go as far as bal, becasue you can then catch up with the allies and screw up their timing. While doing this don't forget to cap all the towers and graveyards so that you can: Keep more reinforcements while allience lose more, and make it so that if you die (IF you die) you have a faster way back to your body instead of when in regular battlegrounds with no plan, if you while capping stonehearth or killing bal, or even worse when you are fight vann, you die and you are all the way back at frostwolf graveyard. Also along the way to getting bal, get the Snivles mine so you may collect resources.
--After you finish off killing bal, track back to galv and throw off the allies timing and gameplay by having warlocks rain down hellfire and mages pour down Blizzard, or hunter's using volley or warriors going in and bladestorming while having a healer spam them. so basically when you get to galv after bal and if theres time do as many aoes to kill the alliance. And i dont remember if you can or not but you could try to heal galv. if galv is already dead by the time you finish off bal. then just turn straight around heading to iceblood graveyard and while alliance are capping Tower point, thats the time to strike, because there is where they will be, not all of them but a good majority. and if you have all the graveyards they are going to be sent back farther then stonehearth bunker. thus throwing off their timing by 10 - 15 mins. After that trek back to the frontline of frostwolf keep.
--Doing this will take all classes playing their roles correctly. Healers stand behind the dps and just spamming "Regrowth" or "Greater Heal" or "Holy Light". If you are specced a healing roles use that because for this to be completely successful and for it to an absolute trip for the alliance to be scared !@#$less, this must be orderly. All Plate, mail, and leather at front doing insurmountable amounts of damage, while mages and balance druids standing a little bit farther back, and have healers stand way back, and this is the tricky part because if a paladin bubbles and runs through the crowd of you to get to the healers, dont everyone rush that paladin, have the dps who are BEHIND the front dps take them out. no tanks are needed here because tanking is really only for pve imo. If done correctly this part is extremely fun and will get guarantee tons of honor.
*- I hope this guide helps and will improve your intake of Alterac Valley marks and honor. This hasn't failed me once and i thought i'd share this guide with my fellow Hordies. Have lots of fun and stay relaxed.

i know its really rare, but i have seen ivus oncem ore!
it was part of an epic premade war.
i was on an xrealm premade (rampage, alliance) and we were going up against a horde premade of some sort. they had a person inside our vent listening in, telling the horde what we were doing, but that guy was not in the battleground with us, and so couldnt read bg chat.
the game lasted roughly one and a half hours.
throughout the game, they were winning. the horde destroyed 3 of our towers, we didnt manage to destroy any of theirs till the very end.
they took control of both mines frequently, but we consistently retook and held irondeep. coldtooth remained in their hands the whole game.
both galv and belindra were killed very early on
through mosto f the game, they were ahead of us. they had 40-50 more reinforcements at any given time, and 35 alliance players were on defense against their premade.
we consistently allowed them to capture a graveyard, then isolated them inside the graveyard and massacred them as they resurected to lower the enemy reinforcement count.
now in order to keep them penned in a graveyard, we had to do 2 things. one: keep them from capping any nearby graveyards and splitting the force up
two: loot insignias to keep them fropm ghost rezing and escaping the trap
there were a couple of idiots in the group that kept assaulting the graveyard and thus preventing us from lowering the horde reinforcements (we suspect that atleast one of these was the spy in our vent, but have no confirmation)
because we were looting all of the insignias, some of us took to turning in metal and storm crystals. by the end of it, we had EVERY one of our wing commanders in the air (used beacons)
we had our troops upgraded to the maximum
and lastly, we. had. IVUS!
ivus was summoned at the end of the match (less than 5 minutes left before we won, but noone knew that quite yet.)
it was roughly 40 alliance to 60 horde (reinforcements)
horde had coldtooth
alliance had irondeep
we summoned ivus
we pushed the horde into iceblood graveyard and capped it, forcing them to ride from all the way back near their base to get to us. in the meantime, we assaulted iceblood tower (yes, seriously, we hadnt taken any of their towers, they had taken all of ours except north bunker)
a handful of horde (beleived to be the token pugs in their group) rode north and went after north bunker. ivus killed them.
more horde were riding towards us from the frostwolf graveyard, but were being wounded by the epic flight of gryphons soaring overhead raining explosive death upon them
we held iceblood graveyard (roughly 38 of us in iceblood GY/tower) for as long as we could while burning down the time limit on iceblood tower. the horde fought to try and take the graveyard, but where unable to make any true headway. more and more horde slipped through and went after iceblood tower, and their ninjas were trying to get north bunker. the vent leader called EVERYBODY (all 40 players) into iceblood tower. all 40 of us clustered inside the tower and held on as long as we could. the horde players used a lag macro to make the fight harder while they tried to ninja recap. thunderbolts flew into the tower building, but the walls kept us inside. boomkins tried to push us out the door and died. trees were chopped down. felguard were excorcised. priests were stunlocked. mages were silenced. warriors were decapitated. paladins went oom. rouges were shot. hunters were stabbed. druids had something bad for druids happen to them (idk im bored..)
you get the idea
horde assaulted north bunker
ninjas tried to recap iceblood in the midst of the chaos
iceblood tower was capped with alliance at 14 and horde at 27
alliance won.

PTR PATCH NOTES - WOW CLASSIC VERSION 1.13.5
The next patch and content unlocks for WoW Classic are now available for testing in the WoW Classic Public Test Realm (PTR).
奥特兰克山谷
Updates
This patch includes many bugfixes for issues found in the 1.12 version of World of Warcraft. These were issues that were clearly unintended by the design of the time, and are now fixed:
Terrain exploits
You can no longer climb the waterfall and enter the Frostwolf base near the Relief Hut.
You can no longer climb the cliff and enter Dun Baldar near the Aid Station.
You can no longer bypass Icewing Bunker.
Reputation inconsistencies between
联盟
and
部落
联盟
now always receive Reputation and Honor for defeating
加尔范上尉
, regardless of whether
巴琳达·斯通赫尔斯
is alive.
Developers’ notes: This now correctly mirrors the
部落
behavior, which grants them Reputation and Honor for defeating
巴琳达·斯通赫尔斯
, regardless of
加尔范上尉
’s status.
联盟
Druids can no longer have their actions disrupted by talking to them.
Developers’ notes: This now correctly mirrors the behavior of the
部落
Elementalists, who were already just as steadfast in executing their intended actions.
Exploits for defeating the enemy general.
The
部落
War Masters can no longer be kited far enough to allow General
德雷克塔尔
to be engaged and defeated alone.
The
联盟
Prospector can no longer be tricked into pulling General
范达尔·雷矛
out of the bunker so that he can be defeated alone.
Developers’ notes: As always, our intention is to accurately represent the 1.12 design intent of the game, and these bugs are clear examples of behaviors that were never intended."

outdated information: Players that have reached
levels 51-60
can queue up for Alterac Valley by either traveling to the battleground entrance in Alterac Mountains, or by speaking to an Alterac Valley Battlemaster in a major city.
anyone know the levels at the moment ? perhaps some update ?

Location for Alliance:
/way 45.15 45.45
This is in Hillsbrad Foothills almost on the same latitude as Tauren Mill, just a little more northern, at the southern end of the Alterac Ruins (a white, snowy area).
There are these three fingers pointing down at the bottom of the snowy area, and it's between the two bigger fingers (of the three at the bottom) with the widest gap.
There is an Alliance camp with low level quest markers and tents, and there is a cave. You are going into the cave.
