As of patch 2.3, they will show all nearby gas clouds on your minimap. The tracker that's on the upper left corner of your minimap will not indicate this, the gas clouds will simply show up as yellow dots wandering around on your minimap.

it'd be nice if there were more gas clouds and a greater variety of them in existence though...

What exactly is a gas cloud all about?

A gas cloud is a node that works much like an herb for herbalism or a mineral vien for miners
The gas clouds are found wandering throughout various places in outland (and in some instances)
To "extract" the motes from the gas cloud you must first have https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=23821 (The schematic for this item is obtained from the following quest)

(Alliance) https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=9636
After you have located a gas cloud you just get next to it and then use your mote extractor and it can yeild 3-5 motes
Warning: A commonly known bug by blizzard... there are many bugged gas clouds in nagrand that are in the sky near the floating peices of land but are out of range and when trying to get on the edge of these you will generally fall to your death... The thing that makes this so bad is that blizzard admitted they knew they were there but refuses to do anything to fix them

What if you have mining, and you have goggles with this type of tracking, will you still be able to see the mineral veins on your minimap? Just wondering, since you can only have one form of tracking active at a time

so in northrend the crystallized waters/earths/shadows/ etc. they dont have clouds for them there?

anyone know? or else ill skip the gas extractor. cuz motes dont sell for anything anymore

Blizzard should make/have made this a tinker 'modification' for WotLK, could come in handy

Just wanted to point out that, at least in my server, you can't see both the mineral deposits and the gas clouds. Once you put on whatever item you use to track gas clouds, mineral vein marks disappear from your minimap, and viceversa.

When the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor is in your bag you'll track the Gas clouds on the Minimap.
No need for goggles or belt buckle or helmet.

i dont understand how use it.I have goggles and have item for clouds,but i cant see clouds on minimap.help pls

You need to put up the tracking w/ the icon near the minimap
works just like sense demons, treasure, hunter tracking, and the flight masters, repair guys etc.
just click on the magnifying glass icon

u probably cant see them on ur mini map b/c u havent found ne, u need to run on the ground or fly close to the ground. Also i've come to find that the gas clouds are mobile and will never re-spawn in a specific location for at leats 5 hrs

no tracking selection req. i can keep find fish on at the same time as my goggles and both show up the same on minimap

As far as I'm aware there's only 4 outlands zones these clouds can be found :- Zangermarsh,(mote of water) Nagrand,(mote of air) Shadowmoon Valley, (mote of shadow) and Netherstorm, (mote of mana)
Ultra Spectropic Detection goggles allow you to see the motes in the mini-map. (You have to be lvl350 engineering to make them)
They show up as yellow dots same as herbs and metals do in the mini-map.

In nagrand the clouds also spawnes in the air on the platformes that floating there.
