For dps classes 343 spell power will be equal to old "343 Spell damage and Healing"

"This stat will appear with the same values found on items which grant “increased spell damage and healing” such as on typical Mage and Warlock itemization."

But for healers will it be "644 healing and 216 spell damage"? If not and it will be 644 healing and 343 spell dmg all items will be boosted pretty much (~137% of old power)

"For classes which do not heal, they should see no change in the character sheet other than new tooltip wording."

But how does WoW define dps/healing classes? Shaman is healer, but in Ele he will be dps. So your comment (and this blue post you quoted) doesn't include healers.
How does new stat behave with healers? Because i honestly don't believe that all old "healer items" would be boosted so much...

I Think WoW checks you class and build, and if you are a healer (in holy/resto) you have lower bonus to spell dmg, ang higher to healing, and if you are pure dps - you'll have exact value from tooltip of item applied as spell dmg.

No free Intellect aura on 'Use' effect like its predecessor I see.

Oh well, would've been considered OP with levelling characters anyway I'd imagine. That plus finding a way to scale a 'Use' effect was probably rather difficult, if not impossible.

If you're curious as to how this item scales down with your character's level (for purposes of twinking or general curiosity), you can use the LINK button at the top of this item page to link the item in-game: the WoW client will automatically scale the item stats down to your character's level for you. At the moment, this staff, from levels to 1 and 57 does NOT scale with spellpower, probably some weird bug, the stamina, intellect and crit you get from it, scale, but the spellpower from 1 to lvl 57, reamin from 1 to 9, then when you hit 58... BAM, staff magically gets 46 spellpower. The shoulders scale correctly. I have not tested the ones you get for stone keepers shard, but this staff, spellpower wise, sucked for leveling :P

Currently using this on a 39 hunter twink with 25 agi on it

11 crit
9 spell power (lol)
25 agi (enchant)

Not all that bad could probably get more out of using the 1h with 15 agi on them but this gives a high amount of stam and int which also converts to 17 ap through https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=34484

You should add +30 Spellpower enchant, because that's the only enchant i could find that works on the heirlooms.

But goodluck on finding someone who does the enchanting recipe is from Molten Core pre-BC.

Since heirlooms will always count as level 1 items, does this mean that weapon oils and sharpening stones will continue to work on them past 70? If so, would it then still be useful pre-Ulda raiding at 80 until something drops from Naxx?

Isn't this item pretty good for Elemental Shamans as well? The heirloom mace would probably be better for Resto but I already have a healer alt so I'm not planning to go Resto with my Shaman. Besides, with this staff, you make at least 3 leveling alts happy :)

enchanted this with https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=13529 as i was leveling, and it does not take the glow effect. More than likely the default "glow" of the green orbs rotating around it overrides any glow effect from any enchant.

don´t be as confused as i was. the spellpower scales HORRIBLY up to lvl 58, which is where it increases almost sixfold from 8 to 46. the crit rating and stam and int are very high throughout lvling, but unfortunately the spellpower doesn't really increase at all.

this stave is still pretty much perfect for lvling a mage, a moonkin, a warlock or a priest. i´m even considering using it for my hunter as well, because the crit and the int and stam are not useless at all!

All of the heirloom items scale with the content as well as your character, i.e., the reason the caster pieces receive large boosts in spellpower at 58 and 68 is because that corresponds to the character's becoming BC and WotLK eligible. The physical gear scales similarly, with the 2-handers in particular becoming amazingly powerful at 58.

For a 19 twink hunter, this is actually very good.

You can only enchant it with 25 agility, but the total stats are considerable.

Even when compared to rare BoE 1handers or BoA sword/dagger combinations with 2x15 agility enchants, the high crit rating really shines. Intellect and stam are always useful as well.

Anyways, the spellpower budget on this is almost negligible until it starts using TBC item budget formulas so don't dismiss this as a "caster item" for twinks.

I don't think you should be concerned to much about the spell power. Most likely if you went far as to get 65 emblems for this you will put 30 Spell Power on it. So it should be able to last you hopefully untill 80 not sure. Point is yes you could get more spell power by buying BoE or grinding for other staffs that put alot into it then enchanting that. But you would waste alot of gold when you went to upgrade that one and put another enchant on the next. I do not believe it is wise to dump all your stats into spell power while leveling because having a decent sized mana pool is helpfull! Depends what you want I suppose... big hits or the ability to cast longer without going oom. Personally I could care less about hitting hard if I was forced to spend alot of time drinking mana back because my mana pool wasn't big enough to make evoc effective on my mage or didn't have alot of spirit on my priest for spirit tap to be effective. For a warlock thats affl I guess you could do fine with going crazy on spell power.

Overall, I am glad I got this item even though it scales poorly to other staffs around its level but knowing that you can always have on it without worrying about replacing it makes up for this.

It has a big jump in stats when you hit 58/68.
At 67 it gave 109 spellpower, at 68 it gives 220.

I don't think this was really created with twinks in mind. The heirloom items seem to be meant for improving your levelling ability... and at that, this staff succeeds admirably. Stick either Enchant Weapon: Spell Power or Enchant Weapon: Healing Power (the latter, for me at least, was considerably easier to get, especially with the relative rarity of Golden Pearls) on it and go nuts.

All pre-bc chants are eligible to be put on these items. Overall though, you aren't missing much (5-10 SP less than a BC or Wrath Enchant) etc; and since the amount of SP is always fairly close if not more than the best blue item in the bracket, its still worth it.

I tried to put a spellpower enchant on it around level 35. No go. GM said you can't do it. I have not been able to apply Wizard Oil either. Maybe after the level 58 barrier where the spellpower goes up to a reasonable level, not sure.

Overall, this thing has been useless. Sitting in my bags since about level 20. There has always been a quest reward, a dungeon drop or a BOE that has been immensely better so far.

The trinkets on the other hand... WOO HA! A pair of those and you are off to the races!

The ilvl of this item is 1 regardless of your character's level, and this is what the enchants are based on. Meaning you can only use enchants were no lvl requirement is stated in the description.

This is the case for all heirloom items.

Apparently in 3.1 they fixed this item.

At level 36 on my druid it now has 29 spell power.

Definantly is scaling more appropriately, awkwardly enough my damage didn't change, so I'm wondering if it was always giving the proper spell power, but wasn't SHOWING the proper spell power.

Actually, this isnt AS rare as it once was. Since 3.1.0 this is Bind on Use not Pickup and the drop chance has also been greatly increased, according to the 3.1.0 Patch Notes.

Greatly increased the drop rate of recipes found in pre-Lich King dungeons and raids.

In early levels (1-10), the swing damage of this staff is quite powerful. I have it on my warlock and it hits about x3 the damage of a shadow bolt.

Think again before you downrate please. I've tested this myself.

btw, since you can turn in BoA items after up to 2 hours after purchasing, tog et your badges back, you can actually buy this item on your main, send it to your alt, lvl with it, and send it back to your man to get your emblems back.

i have tried this, bought with my pala, send to druid to enchant, but ended up doing obsidian sactuary, not using this ofc, better geared.

but when i send the item back after about 1 and a half hours, i noticed that i still had 1 hours and 56 minutes laft to get my emblems back for it.

its also good when you need an item to complete a group quest or do a heroic or raid and then just turn the item back in to get your emblems back for other gear ou might need in an emergency

If you play about with the slider bar, you'll notice that there are significant steps up in the stats provided at 58 and 68 to aid your transition into Outlands or Northrend.

This is amazing. You want this on your levelling mage/lock. It outperforms pretty much any dungeon drop at pretty much any level and also accepts the +30 spellpower enchant.

This staff is getting a massive buff come Cataclysm, with the amount of spellpower granted at low levels being increased substantially to 2x-3x the current amount. As an example, at level 40: in WotLK it gives 32 spell power, but in Cata it will give 78 spell power, plus an additional 15 from intellect. This is a gain of 61 spellpower.

The most important thing is that no caster weapon before Outland gives any spellpower at all, just a standard amount of intellect. 祖穆拉恩的能量法杖, a popular and easy to obtain level 44 staff, has just +12 intellect on it, while this staff at level 44 will have 16 intellect and 84 spellpower. That is a difference of 88 spellpower at the same level. Add an enchant and the difference is even larger.

If you're going to level a caster after the Cata pre-patch, this will be your most important heirloom by far.
