I don't know why Blizzard does it, but epic tier rogue shoulders often have disappointing stats (bloodfang), and these are no exception.

No hit, no crit, low stam.

Sure, the 40 AP is nice and two sockets as well as the socket bonus open up more possibility for hit and crit rating, but for T5 you don't want to be seeing a lack of the most important stats for a raiding rogue in favour of dodge rating.

I'd pick up the 4 piece bonus without these, there are plenty better shoulders than this that are easier to obtain.

When compared with Bladed Shoulderpads of the Merciless, these shoulders unfortunately fall short for PvE...

The only reason a rogue might want to pick these up is for the set bonuses, otherwise, stick with the Kara shoulders.

For future reference, you may want to put your characters name for armory purpose, so people can see how you organized your hit rating while maintaining your comments point.

I know the more hit rating the more you hit, but in my guild, having 150 hit rating i overdps all of the +200 hit rating rogues, even friends with 251 didn't have that much dps output.

I found more important to raise crit and ap, since the extra dmg always will fill the loosing hit.

Maybe I'm wrong, correct me, someone who looses +200ap for raising 100hit rating will not cover the dmg loss.

i currently have Netherblade shoulderpads with 2x 16AP gems.

which gives me

104 AP
13 +hit
10 +crit
420 hp
some neglectible dodge

the Deathmantle shoulders (and set in general) seriously lacks +hit.
i'd gem these with 2x (4hit + 4agi) which gives

96 AP
8 +hit
25 +crit
370 hp
some neglectible dodge aswell

hp doesnt really matter in pve, so leaving that out:

from t4 => t5
-8 AP
-5 +hit
+25 +crit

i'd only get these if you're already stacked with +hit!

in my case: i have 242 so i wouldnt bother getting these till i have atleast 260 or more

These shoulders are good, however when compared to shoulderpads of the stranger I believe stranger is just a tad bit better. But, there are some factors that would change your decision. If you were closing in on the hit cap them you would probably want deathmantle. Just because it has 2 sockets instead of 1. But, if you were close to the expertise cap then you would want the shoulderpads of the stranger. One last factor is if the deathmantle shoulders completed the 4 piece set which is wicked awesome. Then you would go with deathmantle. They are both pretty much equal, just depends on what you need stat wise.

Replaced Dancing Blades with these last night, obtained the two set bonus due to the Deathmantle Handguards (Amazing gloves.)

But it's presented me with some form of dilemma, with my guild now regularly attempting Mt. Hyjal and soon Black Temple, Mantle of Darkness may well be an upgrade from these (And ignoring set bonus, it definetely is)

However, I'm a big fan of using Envenom in raids (Well aware it's not wholy popular) but it also ignores armour like rupture, and actually does significantly more damage for me at the moment, only negative side being that you lose Deadly Poison Applications, but I think it's a lot more viable then eviscerate since ever rogue should be using Deadly Poison regardless. (Except Wound/Mind-Numbing on certain occassions)

Problem with t5 for rogues is.. It doesn't have much hit. =\ Most are like.. "Lawl. wtf hit? I don't need that." Most rogues SHOULD know that hit IS important. Cap's like what 305? 315? Unless you can gem em up right and hit the cap then you'd be good. t4 is for mostly Combat rogues, t5 is a little bit but not a whole lot. t5 is like.. Assassination/Sub rogues. I have the shoulders on my rogue myself and honestly.. They look stupid on belfs lol At least the chicks.

Sub is crap for raids. I used to be it then switched to combat daggers and am now topping the dps charts...eh and I wish the set had more +hit over crit.

Combat Daggers > or = Combat Swords > Mutilate Rogues >>> Subtlety. Subtely is a nice PvP build but gimps a Raid.

I dont believe a mut rogue was top dps on VR for a second, since VR is immune to poison. Well anyways i find the whole tier 5 set to be lacking in hit rating something u really need for raids, gg blizz.

First of all, a sub rogue is not dps... secondly, alot of rogues ARE good for this fight, but it is hard on the healers. The ranged dps is moving around alot and lose alot of dps, so rogues are the dps for this fight, and without them, and good heals, you will not beat the enrage. BUT, a sub rogue could go to void reaver no problem, since the fight is a joke.

edit: and if your guild knows what they are doing, melee dps does not move out for the fight ever

I refuse to believe anyone raiding TK would even wanna spec sub lol mutilate raid spec or combat daggers is the way to go and i agree with the other post. no mutilate specced rogue could come top dps on this fight unless your other dps r extremely lax..

ok gusy, mutilate is nice dps for everything that can take posion dmg. often able to keep up with combat spec or even outdmg combat in short fights. however some fights come along like void reaver where it's a big posion immune boss and your forced to rely on imp backstab without the combat benefits and your dps goes down a bit. Mutilate keeps up with combat on equally geared rogues because of the fact that you wont always be fighting mobs that last for more than 1-2 mins which is where combat rogues start taking over the charts. 1 mutilate rogue in your guild isn't gonna hurt your dps so much that you wipe on void reaver, maybe if all your rogues were mut but then thats silly.

P.s. All our rogues stay in for stomps. CloS through everyone of them possible and Imp leader of the pack and seal of light helps keep us full while a resto shammy and pally heal us. so plz dont say rogue dps is low on void reaver because we are always one to two thirds higher than ranged on dps.

You guys couldnt be more wrong about this fight poo pooing rogues in it. The Void Reaver fight is a melee DPS fight, not range DPS. The rogues in our guild always finish at the top and the rest aren't even close.

Try convincing your myopic raid leader to keep the melee in through the poundings, and have a healer stand in with them through it. We normally have a resto shaman heal the melee group throughout the whole fight. She can handle it with no problems alone.

Range has a hard time competing with melee DPS here since they have to shoot and scoot alot. Ya, the VR is immune to dots and poisons, so bring your sharpening stones and have a shaman drop wind fury for the win.

Rogues kick butt in this fight and if they aren't, you guys are doing something wrong.

Im just gunna throw this out there....... raiding subtlety rogues do in fact exsist. In fact, they pwn ur face. 31-30, Paragonkrew, Lightbringer. Armory ftw

sub isnt useless in raids, it can be quite handy with the debuff, and when i was sub i used to get 1k-1.5- crits.. just play it right and it will do good
then again im 19/42/0 lol

We usually take anywhere between three and five rogues to SSC and TK.. we have cleared SSC and are on Kael in TK. Every night, the rogues are always in the top five, and one of our rogues (17/0/44 spec) always tops the meters (In subtlety spec).

^&*!@oid a sub rogue Cant top a dps on a boss fight maybe on trash but not a boss and if your gona say a rogue is on the top 5 on kael you are very wrong sir Kael is not melee friendly untill phase 4 but they do get some dps on Saguniner and telonicus but sorry no sub rogue can top a dps meter on a boss fight =)
