The health redistribution works by healing the lower health members,and dealing nature damage to the higher health members. This means that damage can be mitigated by nature resist, which is the behaviour under the current PTR .

Combined with Elemental Resistance Totem and the 10% damage reduction, this may result in a higher-than-intended final health level (assuming that no healing is going on in the meantime. Though that's not going to happen, is it..?)

The range may pose a problem in that, as an emergency cooldown, shaman will have to stop healing and get in range of the tank/required raid members to drop the totem.

At the moment this totem has only a few good PvE uses (apart from 10% reduction and helping bursty damage taken while being stacked, for instance in Magmaw HC ranged..), but it is incredibly good at various arena brackets. You can easily save your 2v2 mate if he's going low by simply running to him and dropping this totem: if you had full 120k hp, he's going to get like half of that in one second. Same works also the other way, but you have to make sure your arena mates know to stay in the ring while someone is low, and you should be fine. With Totemic Focus the totem lasts for 8,40 seconds, which should be enough to heal you/your partner up.

And as it's a totem, you can drop it even while hexed, which is a good thing to keep in mind when facing other shamans.

Spirit Link does its job in 1 second. Turning to blow it up is a waste of time because by the time you see it and react to it, the person who was about to die is already healed up to 90% health.

Great for healing an entire raid in "stack up" mechanics, such as Systems Failure during the Chimaeron encounter. Drop Spirit Link, pop a Nature's Swiftness empowered Healing Rain, and give one of the tanks a couple of Healing Surges, and your entire group is topped off single-handedly.

For those of you trying to figure out where this totem comes from, it is "learned" via restoration talent, not from the Shaman trainer.

Spirit Link does its job in 1 second. Turning to blow it up is a waste of time because by the time you see it and react to it, the person who was about to die is already healed up to 90% health.

But even after the initial health distribution, the totem is still reducing their dmg taken by 10%. It's also very hard to nuke 1 person with this totem up, since the totem is still sharing their teammate's health with them.

Moral of the story: if you see it in PvP, kill it.

Basically, this is what it does:

Take percentages (of HP) of all the group members.

As an example I'll use these numbers (%): 45,65,12,19,67

These numbers are added together which makes: 208.

This is divided by the amount of group members, which is 5.

This gives 41.6% - therefore everyone in the group gets 41.6% - it sort of makes everything level.

Imagine a glass of water, in fact, several glasses, each with different amounts of water.

The totem is simply transferring water so that each glass is level.

Sometimes this can mean an increase in HP for players, or a decrease. In the situation where, for example, the tank has very low HP and the rest of the group is around 80%, it would be an increase for him/her. So, its like a stabilizer.

This totem benefits both from and , increasing the duration to 8.4s and range to 13 yards at max ranks.

For Resto Shamans, this thing can be a godsend on the final bosses of Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub.

Drop it on the 3rd Chain in ZG, when everyone's stacked and there's like 10-20 ghosts coming after you guys. With all 5 of you in place, it's almost impossible to die.

For Zul'Aman, drop it on either the Eagle or Dragonhawk boss. Either one, it will make your life SO much easier.

And for Baradin Hold? Drop it on the Eye phase on Occuthar if a DPS dies and you fear there isn't enough DPS to kill them all. Thanks to some people resisting, etc, it should keep everyone alive.

What happens if the damage taken by the group is very high while spirit link is active? Does the hp of everyone in the group drop down to 1% or something? What happens if someone(in range of the totem) dies from a a one-shot mechanic? Is it impossible to die while the totem is active, as long as someone has at least one hp point to transfer?

I like class abilities with unique mechanics, and I was just wondering what some of the outcomes would be under specific conditions like those.

From my casual 10-player raiding experience I have to say: it's awesome. Crazy Awesome, capitalized. As of MoP it's part of one of the most powerful pve-cooldowns in the game, if used correctly. How so? Well, first scream at the rest of the damn raid to move their pixelated butts into your wisely placed Healing Rain (Optional, your general position is fine. How does a healer look like btw.?), wait for massive damage, launch Ascendance, drop Spirit Link Totem.
Yes, that's right, the redistributed healing is channeled into Ascendance and the ticks are massive, one million hit points massive, every second! Plus HR, plus any other healing.
Oh, and sorry for the languange... I think other Restoration Shamans can relate.

Curious about this spell's interaction with Damage Reduction abilities like Smoke Bomb and Power Word: Barrier, as well as . Considering the Totem effectively reduces and generates health by dealing and healing damage, as noted by combat logs of all kinds, I'm curious if mitigating damage within the spirit link and amplifying healing done actually benefit the totem's effects even more

Does damage reduction inside a spirit link also mitigate the "damage done" by spirit link itself? What about Amplify Magic or other increased healing effects? Is it possible to get the most out of the totem itself by using, for example, a personal cooldown while within its radius? My theory is that the totem's "damage done" is reduced, and therefore the group's healing taken by the totem is effectively increased.

The icon resembles a tauren, orc and troll hand. These were the initial races in vanilla wow which could play the shaman class.

Solid warning about this ability - this spell does not take a 'percentage' of someone's health to give to another, but rather a flat number. In Dragonflight, this isnt in any way an issue. But the problem lies in your ability to have this totem prior to level 60 where everyone's health is somewhat similar.

Example:
So a tank has 20k health. You have 10k as a DPS. The tank takes 11k damage. SLT takes 11k from you to give to the tank to 'normalise' his health. Except, 11k is actually more than your entire health pool. Meaning, you die. So, that means that, prior to 60ish, this totem CAN and WILL kill party members. Trust me, I've used this a few times doing leveling dungeons and I've honestly killed a handful of people because the totem took more than your entire health pool to give it to another.

So - as a solid suggestion - do NOT use this totem prior to 60. Or prior to it being fixed, which i doubt since it's before current content. At 60-70 it is likely a VERY good cooldown to use. But prior to that, it's a good way to not only kill your party members (accidentally or on purpose) or worse, wipe your entire group.
