Just to be clear if you do this on a prot pally, you will have to either go ret or equip a 2 handed something as prot to activate the extra action to start it.

Have read elsewhere that you have to break the barrier 3 times before you can kill Echo of Fyrakk....or he would despawn. As of 2/3/24 at least this is no longer true. Killed him after 2 and quest completed. fyi Have fun :-)

I guess don't die on the encounter? I'm using an alt toon that isn't the best, and died during the encounter. My ghost is left in the instance, in front of Wrathion, unable to resurrect. If you reload you'll eventually get a "Resurrect Me" prompt that doesn't work. I tried the `/script RepopMe()`, joining groups and leaving, and other things... but the only thing that worked was having the "stuck character" service. It left me in the same spot and instance, but I was alive.

Yay, right? Well, I died again as this toon and then it's in the same state again, however the stuck service has a 4 hour delay. Lesson learned? Pay attention and actually beat the encounter, don't do it while you're busy doing other things and not focused or be prepared to wait a long time...

Just completed this on my 488 Ret pally, and had a little trouble with doing too much damage forcing it to double cast the Fear spell resulting in failing.
Took me coming to look at comments and seeing he needs to have phases to realize what was happening as i was trying to one shot him and thought i was just being too slow.
After getting him to ~40% and just waiting for the bar to drain i completed it. Tried to BoP but it still counts as a fail.
I guess they expected us to have it before being fully geared or something, he really isn't that tough.

The fight is fairly simple. Adds spawn (one caster at a time and a bunch of small fire elementals) and you kill them until you fill a bar. Then use the extra action button to attack the shielded target, and dps him as much as you can before the timer runs down. Make sure to have an interrupt.
Once I figured out what to do, it was pretty easy at 474 Ret, no extra healing even required.

I'll start by saying my main spec is Holy as a paladin. I've never played as ret and really didn't have much investment in getting this axe other than to have it. As a result, the scenario was really rough for me to figure out exactly what to do to defeat Fyrakk and it took me a few attempts to get it down. So, if you're like me and came here to figure out what to do, here's how I got it down as a 479 "ret" paladin with healing trinkets lol.

Make sure you have a two handed weapon ready to go so that you can use the extra action button that allows you to equip Fyr'alath. As soon as you hit the button, the encounter starts. Fyrakk shows up in the center of the room and several small adds start to spawn behind him. You want to burn down those adds, as well as the two larger adds that spawn as quickly as possible. Killing adds fills up a bar for Determination. Once you get to 100% Determination, your extra action button lights up and you can directly attack Fyrakk. This breaks his shield and you just burn as quickly as possible. The most important thing here is to have an interrupt ready to stop him from casting fear. You'll know he's casting it when a huge shadowflame circle appears around you. He'll cast this twice before shielding himself again and returning to the adds phase. If you have enough gear/dps, you should be able to get him down in two burn phases- I was able to get him to 3% on the second burn phase before he shielded himself so I think it's certainly feasible for someone with more experience in this spec lol. Once he's down, you can complete the quest with Wrathion and then equip your new axe!

Hopefully this makes it a little more straightforward for someone else. Grats everyone on your legendaries!

Tried the scenario specced as unholy and got overwhelmed, so I switched to blood and got it done without breaking a sweat.

I don't know who came up with the "Season 3"-gear, but even disenchanting 298 ilvl gear works (last expansion). Pretty sure older gear works too, as long as it's an epic weapon or armor. The quest item itself states no other restrictions than it being an epic weapon or armor piece...

Tried as fury in 473 gear but don't stand a chance. Did they make it harder in season 4?

Managed to complete this on a 480 ret pally. Divine Shield and Word of Glory were my best friends in this encounter. Interrupt, stun and dodge stuff. You can do it.

Description

Just to be clear: if the axe defeats you, I will be obligated to step in. But that's not going to happen, is it? You're not going to be corrupted by shadowflame. You won't devolve into a monstrous, murderous shadow of your former self. I'm not going to have to... intervene. As long as we're clear on this, no one is going to have to kill anyone. All right, let's get this done.
