My extra action button wouldn't respond to my click when attempting to do this quest. In order to get the quest items, you have to use the extra action button on the corpse, and then the apprentice will generate the Glistening Salamander Hide.

The command is /click ExtraActionButton1

DON'T FORGET TO USE THE ACTION BUTTON FIRST BEFORE SKINNING!

If your apprentice is not near you when you kill the salamanther, the extra action button won't do anything.

So make sure the apprentice is near you when you kill it, they are pretty slow and lag behind you, especially right after you dismount from dragonriding.

Just to add to some of the issues above. When i tried to skin two Salamanthers at once. (both inside the green action circle) The apprentice would only skin one. Then i was not able to skin the other one at all.

Make sure you skin them one at a time, until this is fixed.

If you don't see the Glistening Salamanther quest mobs, you might have landed on the giant floating rock above the quest area. Drop down the side and find the quest area below yourself.

Still bugged as of 12/01/22. I got stuck at 9/12 skins. Tried clicking buff off, putting apprentice right under the mob and hit /reload ui a couple times but nothing worked. Finally did a quick log out/in and quest worked perfectly after.

Just adding a quick note about my experience. I seemed to have the same issues as others including the guy not skinning at all or only getting 1 of the mobs in a pack. As a ranged player with pets, the mob would often die away from me and the skinner so that could be it, but even sometimes when I was close it seemed bugged. Tried moving the guy right on top of the body and that didn't always do it either. I appeared to have the most luck when I walked right up on the mob, auto attacked him and then let my pets finish him off while I was right there with the skinner. Annoying but fortunately still a pretty quick and easy quest to complete. The sheep one is more annoying. :)

I think there may be a bug related to pets and/or guardians. I tried for 10+ minutes as a demo lock and was only able to succesfully collect 1 or 2 hides out of a ton of attempts. I remembered there being an issue in some SL quests where having a pet or guardian up would interfere with the quest, so changed to Destro and kept my pet unsummoned and it worked every time. Was able to knock it out in a couple minutes. One issue with Demo is the Inner Demons talent, it automatically spawns imps so you will almost always have 1 or 2 up.

Not sure if this was the actual issue, but knowing it was a problem with some SL quests I suspect it is.

Hi all

On This WQ You need to Slay Glistening Salamanther and use on bodis spell from extra bar Direct Apprentice to collect 12 Salamanther Hides.

Pretty sure this quest is set up that if someone "tags" the mob with the extra function, nobody else can use their extra function, regardless of if they had actually tagged the mob.

As per usual, just after a "complaint" on Wowhead, it popped out on the next lockout.

In Europe, this quest was only available on the first 2 weeks of the expansion, this means it has been missing for over 4 months at the time of writing this comment.
I'm uncertain if it has been up in American, Taiwanese, or Chinese (for the time it was avaiable the the game) regions, but the odds of being missing such a long period makes me think that maybe might have been removed (?).

This appears to still have some bugs. As a demo lock I could get credit, except if I used Call Dreadstalkers. Then using the WQ ability would do nothing after. Using any other demons or abilities though does not prevent getting credit for the quest.

Even with the stupid apprentice beside you, I find that you can only kill ONE salamanther and NOTHING else, else the apprentice won't skin the salamanther. Grrr....

Even then you might still want to have them skin BEFORE you loot. Grrr....

This appears to be bugged on NA as of 5.6.23. Sending the apprentice to collect hides does nothing. Put in tickets

On top of the NPC has to be near the Salamanther, YOU have to land a killing mob.

So Pets and/or Guardian is bad for this WQ.

Demonology Warlock has is worst because of imps, but you can use Implosion because it's considered YOUR damage, rather than the imp's
or well, just change spec to destro or affliction.

It is so infuriating when you have killed 20 of the quest mobs and then realize that there is a nice extra button that you have to press after killing (but before skinning the corpse, by the way)... ;)

Oh, and before you start downvoting me to oblivion, you may have noticed the little ";)" emoticon, which basically says that I was too stupid to read the quest description, so it was all my fault ;)

PS: And every other time it just doesn't work, so you're probably better off just skipping that buggy nonsense. (This line has no emoticon.)

This is the most buggy world quest of all time. I have genuinely no idea how casual players who only do this type of content enjoy this game. Nearly every other world quest is unplayable buggy. Blizzard has been terrible this expansion.

I accepted the Coalition of Flames Intro quest and got the "Sentinel´s Shroud" Buff which puts you in stealth, even if your not in the quest area.
So I wanted to do this WQ before that quest chain. As a BM Hunter I did all the before mentioned things like dismissing the pet, standing in the mob, etc. But the apprentice still wouldnt skin it, he would start but stop as soon as the buff puts you back in stealth again (very soon after ending combat).
You cant cancel the buff, you have to cancel the quest or stay in combat with other mobs while you order the apprentice to skin the already dead one.

things that seem to make this quest break:

sending the assistant after multiple corpses
attempting to use the assistant while still in combat
stepping into any body of water, even if it's shallow enough to not enter the swimming animation for you and the assistant
looting the/any corpses normally before using the assistant
mounting up
mounting up and taking flight

take special note of that last point though, as that's how you can reset your assistant back to functioning if you do any of the steps that break this quest. a lot of work for 150 rep.

Blizz, when are you going to stop designing quests that punish pet-using classes? I shouldn't have to dismiss my pet to kill mobs just so my pet doesn't take kill credit and bug out the npc. I only have issues with this WQ not working when on my hunters or warlock. Just did this one yesterday on my pallie and druid the NPC skinned every mob as expected. Switch to a hunter however...? I killed close to 30 mobs before I got the 12 skins. Not only does this make the quest annoying and not worth doing, but it makes it more annoying for other players because you are wiping out all the mobs in the area, or you're standing around waiting on them to respawn over and over.

I think my favourite part is, that on these mobs specifically, pets ignore being told to go on Passive... For no reason other than the fact that if your pets attack the mobs, you cannot get quest credit on them. It's like this was done on purpose.

3/18/2024: Demo locks, dismiss your felguard and then you can get credit for every salamanther you kill. Your imps from Inner Demons don't effect the stupid bug that is still in game at this point. Nor does the Doomfiend that can spawn from the Devout Ashdevil's 4-set.

Normal pets like demons, hunter pets, and dk ghouls seem to bug the quest to only count 1 in every 5 kills, summoned pets appear to have no effect. Dumb but easy to fix at least.

Salamanther's Embrace isn’t a hunter’s quest or even a quest that is friendly to hunters.

My hunter found a lot of glittering Salamanther bodies around the pond and an action button. Clicking it creates a targeting circle that is supposed to send an apprentice with a sack to collect the waterproof hides.

I couldn’t figure out why there were bodies lying around that could be skinned — since the purpose of the quest was to collect hides. The apprentice wouldn’t move, but I could skin the Salamanthers (without credit).

Thanks to Morggie and others who point that out that the apprentice will only move if you kill a Salamanther yourself without your pets.

The graphic doesn’t suggest the apprentice is collecting hides because the glittering corpse remains — only the counter changes. But when a character with the skinning skill skins an animal, the body disappears immediately. After you kill a Salamanther, you can loot it before or after the apprentice “collects” the hide. When he’s done, the hide will still be there and you can skin it if you have that skill.

The spawn rate will speed up once the counter starts recognizing hide “collections”.

If blizzard insists on doing these quests with npc to collect the required material, for the love of GOD, make it so the huge &*! extra action buttion circle ACTUALLY works.
Multiple times, killed 3-4 at the same time and the npc ONLY skins 1. Sometimes 2. Sometimes, the npc just refuses to skin it at all.

If you don't want to bother with this rng nonsense, skip this atrociously designed garbage.
