As of 7 November this quest is still bugged. Killed the assassin and got the Assassin's Soulcloak, but when I tried to use it nothing happened and it said "You do not have a pet."

How to do Words of Warding:

accept quest
go to Perdition Hold in The Maw
open a gate to enter in Perdition Hold
kill Spectral Assassin to loot Assassin's Soulcloak /way 33,6, 67,4 Spectral Assassin
use Assassin's Soulcloak to find and dispel 4x Cloaked Ward
return the quest

Notes:

To enter in Perdition Hold you need open a Gate.
To open the Gate you need the achievement Prepare for Trouble! (click on this achieve for more info).
When you use Assassin's Soulcloak you'll gain a stealth buff with 2 min duration. Dispel Cloaked Ward, use any ability or take damage will remove the buff.

The strategy itself is pretty simple ... kill assassin, get cloak ... use cloak to stealth, find runes, click runes ... stealth breaks, either kill all the mobs around you and re-stealth, or run away and re-stealth.

That said ...

If you are doing this in a group, prepare to be frustrated. As of 12/2, the sharding/phasing issue still exists and you'll likely all need to meet up in Oribos before going to the Maw. Also, when doing the actual quest, the runes are not shared. If one person in your group clicks a rune, you will not get credit. You will still need to click four runes yourself (not sure if this is a bug or intended). Also, when a member of your group clicks a rune, everyone in the group is brought out of stealth. If you're not in a good group, they'll likely die pretty fast and probably yourself, as the mobs in Perdition Hold can be tough (ie, Mawsworn veterans can easily two-shot you). But this makes the process incredibly tedious because not only are you not getting credit for the quest item, but there is a chance you will die.

I chose to do this solo as the couple of groups I was in, just weren't getting it. If you go this route, you just have to be very careful. It's possible to click a rune, break stealth and run away before the group of mobs kill you ... but you have to be very quick and I recommend finding runes that have limited mobs around them and also scout a safe-ish place to quickly run and re-stealth to.

Also, you can eat food while in stealth

For me - Frost Mage - Did not cover my water elemental, had to dismiss. Click off your weapons of the mawsworn buff if you used a key to get floating weapons to aid you, as they are also not covered and will give you away

Note that once you click a ward you will immediately turn visible and aggro everything nearby

You can use the cloak to restealth, even in combat.

The quest isn't all that bad, and can be done solo, even as non-stealth class. You can simply click a rune and click your cloak again to restealth. It can be tricky sometimes - if you aggro a spellcaster mob and a projectile is fired as you're restealthing, it'll knock you out. The cloak has a 10 second CD, so just stay alive for that long and restealth again.

If I could offer a word of advice, do 3 Cloaked Wards but don't complete the objective until the last day of the week before reset (Monday for US, Tuesday for EU) so that you can keep the cloak. It's super useful for doing the other dailies in Perdition Hold.

You can stealth/prowl right after casting the dispel and you won't aggro anything if you're quick.

Had to do this solo because of sharding issues. This was absolute hell, and I was BM hunter which is pretty easy mode for most solo content. Had to use everything - feign death, tar traps, freezing traps, aspect of the turtle, soul shape, etc, and I barely did it. I cannot imagine what it must be for other classes / specs. What a BS quest.

Side note: if you're a pet class pets don't seem to get stealthed and they aggro everything so be sure to dismiss them when you have to remove the wards.

This quest is extremely easy cause the cloak is OP! It removes combat and gives you invisibility... Might want to not complete the quest until the end of the week, so you can use the cloak for all the other dailies in that zone.

Be careful tho, if you collect all the 4 wards, the cloak will dissapear from your bags, so collect only 3!

Easily solo-able as BM hunter with camouflage (and decent gear for the add) and no pets out. The pots quest that accompanies it can be done in stealth provided you don't hurl the orb at the enemies. The runed traps were difficult to see because they were small but they have a black white orb floating above them like in Torghast. The kill mob was chunky but there was an area to pop out of camouflaged and pull out tank pets. Then it was back to getting rid of pets, and just juggling safe spaces to reapply the cape, camouflage, where and when to fd and turtle. Then to Venari's Refuge with the relocator for a quick escape. An annoying quest for non stealth classes. Phasing issues with other potential teammates makes it quite offputting, and it was simply easier to solo.

If a melee mob is mid swing, it will break the stealth. If a caster's projectile is midair, it will break the stealth. If you get the minute long debuff on you (pretty sure from the big guys), it will break the stealth. Be careful, plan your exit route and move a few yards away from the mobs that aggro before trying to restealth. It does have a ~2 sec cast time so keep that in mind.

The cloaked ward looks like the floating anima powers in Torghast. It is NOT just a skeleton on the ground, but the floating swirl above it.

Well, after reading through the posts here, I decided to wait with this quest until they have fixed the pet-stealth and the group-phasing bugs. With a bit of luck this may happen before the next expansion comes out.

This quest sucks. Too many mobs too close for classes that don't have cloaking ability. As lock, I died at all but 1 of them. They need to atleast move the mobs away a bit so at least you can try to time it.

Another "don't be a dumbass like me" comment. You only need one cloak, it isn't consumed. I kept killing assassins after use because they were still showing as glowy targets and the quest changed to needing "4 wards"

So one cloak only, still works after 4th ward, which are the anima balls, it's just in your inventory.

Don't try to solo this if you're dps/melee spec. It'll just cost you tons of G & lost Stygia, making the turn in reward largely pointless. It does state to use a group in the Q instruction, you definitely should. The invisibility cloak 'de-buffs' everytime you reclaim your corpse for lost Stygia, & when you uncover the spirit wards you need to dispell, releasing all manner of high geared mobs to kill you. Maw is a gigantic waste of space, frankly, unless you're desperate to craft your own legiondaries (you need Stygia to begin this) stay away & just do the Torghast levels.

Important FACTS about this... many seem to miss them:
1) You can re-cloak after grabbing a rune, even if you have agro from mobs. They will reset agro.
2) You can re-cloak even after grabbing the last rune, but you have to click the item in your inventory and not in the quest log since it disappeared.

This makes the only difficult part of the quest killing the assassin to steal his cloak. Just be sure to put the cloak in a shortcut bar to vanish after the last rune.

When you do the 4th ward the cloak disappears next to the quest (I was like wtf?). But it stays in your bags, so you can use it to get out of this nasty area.

Also, I don't see the most important thing posted. There is a second entrance to Perdition Hold near the Assassin, you can see this entrance on the map if you look closely it's south-west of the main entrance.

Don't use the main entrance and have to go all the through this hell hole to get to Assassin.

Once you get the cloak:
- Get rid of your pets
- Don't use any of the weapons you can pick up, because you can't trust Blizz to not have them aggro everything.
- Copy the /way points up above so you know where all the runes are
- if you aggro after getting a rune use the cloak to drop aggro.
- be ready once you go for the 4th rune because the cloak button will disappear next to the quest. But it will still be in your bags.

Completely Broken.

Assassin's cloak inexplicably stops working randomly (and often). When you utilize it for the purposes of dispelling a ward, you set off an explosion that will aggro every single mob in the area that can possibly be pulled within the range of its tethered spawn point. This could mean dozens of mobs instantly coming after you. If one of the elite Mawsworn Eviscerators aggros you and you try to use the cloak, it will hit you with a debuff that will not allow you to use the cloak again until you die (and you WILL die if you catch an Eviscerator's aggro).

Remember, the Assassin's Soulcloak DOES WORK AS AN AGGRO RESET, for example, there's an orb you wanna deactivate with mobs nearby, prepare defensives (do not use dot attacks), as soon you get out of the invisibility, pop defensive, mass fear/Stun, or anything alike, then IMEDIATELLY REAPPLY THE CLOAK BUFF (better put it on an action bar, for quicker use).

Remember: YOU CAN USE THE CLOAK WHILE IN COMBAT, IT WILL DROP COMBAT, JUST MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN A SAFE PLACE.

Edit: Pretty much anything, but MOVEMENT, might break the invisibility prematurely (dunno about the elites that can track invisibility too, just be safe and stay clear of them, all rest, you can pass by closer, but, again, play safe).

I tried to do this today after the patch on Tuesday (3/8/2021) and had problems with the cloak being dispelled. I would click the ward and the cloak would be gone, the ward would disappear and I wouldn't get credit. It was like the cloak wasn't staying on long enough through the channel to dispel the ward. You can't see the wards without the cloak.

This quest can be a nasty pain with many runs back to your pile of Stygia. Several of the runes are guarded by 2-3 lvl 61 mobs and one lvl 61 elite. Very heavy fights.... and if you are unlucky an elite patrol will join. Bring some friends is a good advice.

When this quest is up, its a good time to work on killing the rares in this area as well. You can stealth around, see if they are up and position yourself for the pull.

Very easy to solo. Once you click an orb just spam Assassin's Soulcloak and you will re-stealth. If you click orbs that are not close to enemies they won't even have time touch you before you drop out of combat.

Very nice job blizzard, the fourth ward you dispel.. sets things around you to agro and guess what you cant stealth cos you completed the darn objective and cant stealth anymore and you are held holding your........

new in 9.1, the venari weekly quests have been turned into daily quests. i have done them for the last few days and usually just got the blue quality seeds. but today i got a blue AND an epic quality spirit from turning the daily words of warding. so i am posting this on each of the divine level spirit items, and on the quest that rewarded it to me. good luck

Beware the Mawsworn Demolishers that are fighting other enemy NPC's when using the cloak. Their AoE attack will de-cloak you and you'll get swarmed.

As a hunter, I found my hunter pet was aggroing enemies while I was cloaked. Desummon pets to be safe.

Final suggestion: if you wait until wandering mobs have walked AWAY from each ward before clicking it and are ready to quickly re-apply the shroud you can do multiple wards on a single lifetime. Don't be discouraged if you are NOT a stealth class!

When THIS particular daily is up, it is MOST helpful for anybody farming Stygia Nexuses to get the Stygia Dust x200 and Stygia Sliver x200 needed for your Bound Shadehound mount. Word of friendly advice and caution... Once you loot the Assassin's Soulcloak, do NOT touch the wards! As long as the quest objective isn't complete, you can sneak around Perdition Hold as much as you please, though spells, interacting with things, and sometimes some enemy npc abilities WILL decloak you, so when using the grapple points and using your Stygia Dowser, make sure you are out of aggro range of hostile npcs, and if you DO get aggro'd, simply activating the cloak will take you out of combat, and just for kicks, if you have an mp3 of the theme from Predator, play that sucka on repeat to make yourself feel like even MORE of a stealthy badass

! As a hunter at LEAST a few times a week i disengage right over the side of a hill. 2. First time doing this - i got 1 somehow (no clue how) and now i have no clue what im looking for . I really hate this place. Oh and if u have a debuff - it kicks u out of stealth repeatedly.

The Assassin's Soulcloak you get after killing the Spectral Assassin is very valuable item in the area; you can sneak behind all the elites and kill rares without pulling everything. The cloak stays until you return the quest.

Using Power Word: Shield (priest) cancelled the buff. But a plus was I was able to get into the cave for the blue quest ! without any trouble.

Description

The towering citadel in the distance is protected by perilous walls, but its greatest dangers cannot be seen with mortal eyes.
