It's there, there are 4 trap spawns that I've found, they seem to respawn fairly quickly, they are arranged in an arc around the end of the dock.

I mentioned this in the Bloodbelly Fish quest, but the traps are often camped. The traps have a chance of dropping a Big Iron Fishing Pole, which sells for a fair bit on the AH. Mentally lazy players usually camp the traps in hopes of getting a few poles to sell.

I gave in 10 shellfish, but he takes them all but the quest tracker only counts one, check your inventory :) It does give both.

i just did the quest and it seems to be changed in 2.1 if not it was from 2.0 change =x

it takes 5 fish at a time and gives u 1 bloodbelly. no money.

There are more like 10 or 15 traps around the end of the dock. Look in the valleys to the southwest of the dock, and south of the dock. The drop rate on the Big Iron Fishing pole makes it not worth farming for. According to some estimates on wowhead and other sites, it's roughly .2% or something silly. I spent about 5 hours over 2 days looking for the pole and couldn't find one.

Hi.

I cannot get this quest!

When I talk to Jinar'Zillen to get it and it is comming up, there stands "continue" in greytoned color instead of "Accept", so I am stucked!

It does the same to all of my 4 chars!

I found that a good way to keep farming the traps if you don't have access to some kind of underwater breathing buff is to dive down to the bubbly fissure just under the end of the docks and use the closest three traps sequentially, visiting the fissure between each trap. By the time you get to the trap on the underwater plateau, the one near the shoreline spawns again. Be careful of chills from the Crawlers, though, it can be more than just an annoyance (especially if you have to run all the way back from the graveyard).

they only work the first time around because technically, you're doing a different quest, at least, as far as the game is concerned.

The game almost universally works like the following in new content, like BC and Wrath, but there are some examples of this in classic too, lets look at one.

Bloodmage Drazial, is a blood elf npc located in the northern part of the blasted lands. To a brand new player in the area, who is of appropriate level, Drazial will offer 3 quests.

A Boar's Vitality
Snickerfang Jowls
and The Decisive Striker

However, after you complete one of these quests, another one takes it's place, it looks similar, has you do the same task, but (1) it dosn't reward any experience points or gold, and (2) it has a different database identifaction number. The three repeatable versions of the first quests are :

Spirit of the Boar <--- id number 2584
(repeatable version of A Boar's Vitality) <--- where as THIS id, is 1 digit different, 2583

Rage of Ages
(repeatable version of Snickerfang Jowls)

and Salt of the Scorpok
(repeatable version of The Decisive Striker)

The first three, are considered "normal" quests, you do something, and get something in return, and thats it. So they'll count for loremaster, only the repeatable versions won't count for the achievement. There are also some quests that don't work like "modern" content, it might not appear to be a repeatable quest, but it is, and as such, won't count in the achievment. An example of this is the trio of horde "Runners' reports" quests in Ashenvale - they are technically repeatable, in the event that the player accidentally abandons the initial quest in the chain, which requires you to obtain the 3 reports to begin with :).

This however, generally only applies to stuff that was implemented really early in the game, so we're talking classic vanilla WoW, because As you can see from my example, some of the "later" classic content works with the repeatable system that everyone is now used to.

As far as I am aware, technically speaking, no repeatable quest in the game will ever count for the achievment. It's "stand alone" version might, but the repeatable quest won't.

Seems to be some problem with this quest. I've been stuck at 4/5 for an hour, and there simply aren't any more shellfish spawning. The cages are there, but they're all empty.

Will give it another try after next server restart.

Edit: Was able to finish it after today's reset. Definitely seems like the shellfish are not respawning.

Failquest. Fifteen minutes of swimming around, alone, and no shellfish ever spawned in any of the ten or so traps I saw.

Hello,
We wanted to let you know that there’s a small issue with the Shellfish Trap where you normally find the Shellfish required for this quest. Basically, if you don’t loot the trap completely, it won’t despawn or refill with another quest item. This can be solved by looting everything that is inside the trap: this will make it despawn and a brand new one will appear after some time. :)

Just in case anyone is wondering, I just got the Big Iron Fishing Pole from the Shellfish Trap. I did have to accept the quest Fish in a Bucket from Jinar'Zillen. Every time I got 5 fish for the quest, I destroyed them, and the picked up the quest again. Did this about 5 or 6 times, finally finding my pole inside one of the Shellfish Traps. I should also note I was playing a Horde character to get the quest. Before having the quest, I could not interact with any of the traps.

As of now, the traps are only lootable if you are on this quest. So in my quest to find the holy ~~grail~~ pole i acquired and abandoned the quest a few times with no luck. Then went to the AH to find them for... like 3g... duhh.
Dont be a fool like me and try to get this in Desolace, check AH first :)

You can still farm the Big Iron Fishing Pole from these - as long as you have the quest.

Grab the quest and join a raid group. You won't be able to pick up the quest items - but the traps will still drop additional loot (some grays, white boots, the occasional gray, and the fishing rod). Abandon the quest when done for next time.

The traps now despawn 2 minutes after being opened, without looting them. Ensuring fresh traps for newcomers doing the quest or looking for the Big Iron Fishing Pole
