This quest was bugged for me the first time I tried it. Maybe someone else was doing it but there was already a ghost kneeling in front of the brazier.

When I came back a second time the brazier was empty, I used the quest item and the ghost showed up and the quest went smoothly.

The location was always changing for me, so here's the coordinates for the soul pyre: 70.98, 38.45. Just go straight like you are going to Helheim, then turn left. So it's in the inside of Haustvald.

Since quest is bugged I thought I'd write the despawn timer for the kneeling ghost.

Approximately 6 mins after one war threw it in (after mobs attacked him) the question mark above his head disappeared.

Tried the second time and it was 4 mins.

Third time just because of variables. It was about 6 mins.

If you group with multiple people all will get it. (Just thought I'd add that.)

If Svergan is there already, the quest will not complete. You must wait for him to despawn to throw his belongings in the pyre.

It can take up to 6 minutes for him to despawn.

You can group with other warriors to complete it together.

You have to Travel to Haustvald and find there a chamber at 71.3 39.1 point. Get in and get close to Soul Pyre object.
Use Svergan's Belongings to summon him and get ready for imcoming. Turn in the quest as you finished.

As of 11/29/2017 this quest can still be bugged. He was already kneeling at the alter when I entered the room, and the quest would not complete for me. I waited for about two minutes or so to see if he reset, but he didn't. I then flew out of Haustvald, clear back to the narrow pass that enters into Haustvald and where the quest initially directions you to go. I logged out there, and then logged back in and flew back into Haustvald to where you complete the quest. This time the ghost appeared like he should and completed the quest.

Doing this in 2024 for some reason, I couldn't get the button on the objective pane to work. Reloading had no effect.

I opened my inventory and used the quest item from there, which worked. I didn't see comments about zoning out to sea before trying that, so I can't say whether that's relevant.

I had to wait for him to despawn, as discussed in other comments, but the quest item button on the objective pane still didn't work once he'd despawned.

Description

The Bonespeaker mystics used these heirlooms to tie my soul to this world.

Under their curse, my soul could not enter the Halls of Valor. Find the soul pyre in Haustvald and throw my belongings into the flames.

The fire that bound my soul through their foul magic will be the same fire that undoes this bond!
