Done this quest about 20 times today, finally killed it, here're some tips:

1. The Colossus has 350k HP not 160k listed above.
2. To kill the Colossus there's only 1 way, keep the acid DoT stacked up to 5 stacks as soon as possible, if you interrupted the 5 stacks at any point, your worm will get killed, so just run away, leave pet and restart.
3. You must face the Colossus when you fire the acid DoT, it is a rather narrow cone so if you don't face the Colossus when you fire it, you may miss and the stacks will be interrupted.
4. When the Colossus is about to slam the ground, submerge and run underneath it to go to his back. This is because if you run too far ahead of him, he will reset. The best way is to run to his back then emerge after the slam.
5. As soon as you emerge, the first thing to do is realign yourself to aim at him, and the second thing to do is fire the acid DoT. Do not stay underground for too long or your 5 stacks will be interrupted.
6. Once the acid DoT is on cooldown, keep spamming the second skill.
7. Rince and repeat.

Actually, it's rather easy. Spam your melee and spit attacks continuously, when the colossus starts slamming the ground (a 7 second cast) just tap 1 (burrow) while holding forward so you're underneath or slightly behind the colossus, then tap 1 again to unburrow and start attacking again - you can come up from the ground even if the colossus hasn't finished casting yet, since it only affects his front. If you just keep doing this you'll quickly start dealing more damage to the colossus. I did this on my first try with about 20% HP to spare

If your worm dies, you go back to you real body. You can kite him back to the worm area and get another one.

This really rather $%^&ed me off. The controls are sluggish.. you're not meant to be able to move when you're above ground, but sometimes you still show as being above ground when you're actually under, whereas if you tap the button twice you're back above and can't move... and he evade bugs.. and.. it's just clunky.

But..

Solos2 & digitaldragon's instructions worked perfectly.

You *always* want to be in melee range of him, either just infront spamming melee+spit, or as soon as he starts to slam you *TAP* submerge *ONCE* and go the absolute minimum distance past his target circle possible, then start spamming melee+spit again... repeat constantly.. if your 5 stack drops off more than once, you're stuffed... if - like an ex-guildie of mine - you're playing at 1000ms latency from a satellite connection somewhere in outback SE asia, you're stuffed... if you get lag spikes, you're stuffed... other than that.. their advice will work once you get the feel for it.

Used this tactic, worked absolutely perfect. Had 50% of my HP left when the colossus was dead, seemed so much easier after trying this out. Recommended for people that don't feel like wasting much time, for sure.

This quest is phased and will despawn most of the mobs in the area. Abandon it if you don't plan to complete it right away.

Just tried using solos2's instructions and got it on my 2nd try. One thing to note is that you can't unburrow when moving. Make sure you get just behind him, stop, unburrow and then continue maintaining the acid stacks while attacking. If you move quick enough you can get a few attacks in before he turns around.

I was killed a few times before I realized the trick.
Spam your strike as much as you can, every time the acid spit is on cooldown use it.
The ground slam is what kills you, you have to move to survive this fight. However don't make it more complicated than need be. The collosus only slams the ground in front of him.
Simply a matter of when you see the "emote" go underground and move forward enough to where your under his feet (or slightly more) turn around and repeat. This way you don't have to move as much.

most irritating thing about this quest is the controls having major latency, 1 sec to submerge, appear, etc. can't know what happens if you try to submerge if you move, and the animation does not go exactly with action.

TIP: 1980s PC gaming time: just click 2 and 3 all the time with 2 of your fingers. The cooldown of basic attack does NOT coincide with the cooldown of the 2nd so you can just spam them both.

A few extra tips:

1. Spam 2 + 3.
2. When you see the emote, do one last poison and THEN hit 1 only once.
3. As soon as you burrow, move forward. I found that holding down up made the freakin' worm turn around sometimes.
4. As soon as you pass the small targeting circle (assuming default). Stop, turn around, press 1.
5. Resume spamming 2+3.

@step2... It's good to save a poison for right when the emote happens because of the bad lag sometimes with getting behind and popping up, you need to never have the stack refresh. You will win just barely with the worm when you do.

I'm not sure about how it would work out for other classes, but I was doing this quest on my prot warrior and my worm got killed with about 60k health left on the Colossus, and I just tanked/killed him the rest of the way down with my character. When he did the ground-pound I'd run away and bandage, and then charge back in keep sunders up, TC and DS up. Didn't even need to blow shield wall.

What really ticked me off about this quest, was everytime I tried to submerge or emerge, while moving foward, the mount would occasionally do an about face on me and go the wrong way....if i submerged under to go behind him for the ground slam, then my mount would spin around and (with the foward key) go further in front of him.

I hate this quest as I'm still trying to finish it.

Got him one the second try. Just spammed 2+3, and burrowed behind him when he did his slam. My worm died when he had 18k hp, and i just killed him that way. For all frost mages/other classes that can do a good ammount of SLOW: He is immune to snare, but CAN be slowed, i just kep my frostbolt up. got hit once, but he didn't break my Ice Barrier.

So dont give up when your worm dies - fight till the end, like a real HORDE!

Kite him to the worm pickup spot after your first worm dies. Then just keep getting new worms if they keep dying.

My tip for hunters.

Before you mount the wurm thing, make sure you change to Aspect of the Wild. The ground stomp is nature damage and as long as it's active prior to mounting, it will also be on the wurm. Of course this is a last resort option as you are attempting to dodge the ground stomps. In the event you can't get away or don't get far enough away this can be your one chance at survival.

Over all this is a pretty even battle. If you duck underground and go behind him and continue to attack at the right times and everything youll get him down. I was left with 1% HP on my jormungar and i downed him. It's possible but like i said you have to duck underground and evade his ground smash otherwise its a lost cause. Good luck to all!

1.Go to 27,36 (Directly north of the word "Snow" in Snowdrift) on the map

2. Take control of the worm.
(Worm Vehicule has different abillities if you're underground or overground.)
to move around as a worm, you need to be underground.
to go underground or overground hit the key 1

3. go over to the "Iron Colossus" and engage a fight.

4. hit him with both your abilities. 2 is a "heroic strike" type of abillity and 3 is a DoT that stacksup to 5 times. you want to use both of them as much as possible.( Try and not let the DoT fall )

5. Whenever you see an Emote in the middle of your screen, that he starts casting something, you have 5 seconds to get away from his face. At that point, you want to submerge (the 1 key when over ground) and go behind him.

repeat 4-5 as needed and collect your pants !

This is yet another "control something to fight for you" quest that is much more straightforward if you do not use the pet, in this case a worm. I had a lot of trouble with the sluggish controls, but easily duo'ed it with a ret paladin who was on the same quest.

If you insist on doing it as intended, the acid attack seems to be a front cone with a short range, and the Colossus' hit box is so large you basically need to get right underneath its groin.

The only thing that makes this quest difficult is indeed the clunky interface. The tactics are very simple and straightforward, the control feedback is NOT. There is no cast bar to show you if you're actually casting submerge/emerge, nor does the button give a GCD feedback. After a good 8 tries I finally got lucky with the acid cooldown/slam timing and took him down. Don't rely on the animation of the worm to know if you're actually submerged, just watch the bar to see when it changes. I use my mouse to move, so I didn't have a problem with accidentally turning around when submerging.

On a side note, the first one I took control of did turn around, and as I was at the edge of the cliff (north side of the sphere) I took a dive off the end a la Tremors. No falling damage, but I had to dismount and fly back up. Somehow a worm that burrows underground can't burrow up the side of a cliff...

Get the Worm outside of where the questgiver is, go west till you see worms. ride one, go south on the map till you see the giant robot ( cant miss it takes up you're whole screen) then keep hitting 3(acid spray stacks up to 5 times, lasts 14 seconds, does more damege per stack on him) when he slams hit 1 ( tunnel) go through him, and pop up behind him, keep you're 5 stacks of acid on and spam #2 the whole time and you will get it. I did it first try with 45% hp to spare

The controls will be sluggish if you are using a mouse to click the controls. DO NOT.

There are only 3 controls to worry about so use your number keys to input the commands.

When you are close enough, start spamming your attacks. Make sure to use an acid attack right before you submerge so when you pop up behind him and use the acid attack again it continues to stack rather then starting all over. When you've put up 3 or so acid attacks on him submerge right before you think you'll see the Slam message to get a head start and avoid as little damage as possible, after doing that once or twice you will be able to call it with ease. Just rinse and repeat.

Once again the key to winning this is to use your number keys not your mouse. Also you do not have to stack the acid up to 5 times. 2-3 times works fine, but the key IS to keep it stacked, he will die much faster.

If you are having trouble completing this, follow the instructions given above, but do not be affraid to go all out melee when you leave the worm, he goes down suprisingly fast to a fury warrior and his attacks are slow so there is a good chance you will outlive him at the final stage

On a side note, when you hit the button to go underground, begin moving forward instantly, you will start moving before the worm has gone underground and also know wether it has worked or not, this will make the difference between avoiding his effect and taking a hit, which indeed will make the difference between fail and profit.

Killed him on my own feet as a level 79 2/63/5 demo warlock. Flaathun could easily tank his melee and ground slam with the occasional lifeline heal, the only real problem was that due to his enormous size, Flaathun would reposition himself during the ground slam cast. This led to my demise at the first try, since I found myself in front of him after the first ground slam, getting killed by the second one.

Simple solution: movement. Keep close to his target circle (not very big) and pay attention always to be on the other side than Flaathun. Dot him up, heal Flaathun, shatter soul at ~70% then go all out (don't forget to heal) and he will bite the dust.

My gear is mostly tbc stuff, badge gear, 2xt5, void star talisman with the wotlk arena quest staff and everything enchanted (tbc stuff - tbc enchants), so I guess everyone could do it at 80.

The problem of the worm turning around still exists - what I did to avoid it was to not move until a sec or so after I submerged - you don't need to be fighting to get the timing right for this - practice submerge and move - and if you turn the wrong way just keep going - you do not have the time to turn and move again and you will not be able to beat him unless you do not get hit even once, bar nature protection.

If you take that hit just run to leave combat - I was sometimes able to run if my worm died, sometimes not. And spamming 23 at the same time did not work for me - what worked for me was 3 2 2 3 etc and watching for his cast bar so that I knew to duck - in my case no time to cast that last spit.

Managed to get spits stacked to 5 and hold - and that dragged him down fast.

The biggest problem for me was the 1 button. For some reason when I hit it, it spun me around facing the wrong direction (with my back to the giant). By the time I would get turned around and move behind him it was too late, he already slammed. After about 10-11 tries I finally got him down to 4% before my worm died and I finished him off myself.

Did this on 2nd try. And i saw a comment that said if u didnt had acid stacked 5 ur screwed thats a lie. I had the 5th stack in the last bit of the fight. Just spam 2 and 3, and when he does groundslam just press 1 one time. My did a wierd turn all but 1 time, but it wasnt a problem. Just turned around and continued. Downed him with the worm on 25% health left

That is because going underground provides no immunity to attacks. It only allows you to move. So take the hits, and when he starts to cast slam, submerge and move behind him.

80 lev rogue. My worm died when Iron Colossus was on 150 k hp, I casted evasion, then preparation when my first evasion was off, then evasion again. Slayed him easily without being hitted even once. So rogues, don't give up if your worm dies.

This was pretty intense for me -

(Holy Pally) I pulled him on the worm about half way in the snow field. My worm died when he was on about 60k health left. I started to run sideways using holy shock, hammer and Consecration to keep aggro and to avoid him resetting, healing myself when he stopped to smash the ground. Eventually I made it back to where to the worms were and got the last bit easily!

I got really lucky. I died twice, and on the third time, he killed my worm before I could take him out...but his health was so low that I was able to finish him off with my spells before he could smash me (and got credit). I did the suggestions that everyone else here recommended as far as stacking the poisons and spamming the melee attack. When I got the raid warning about him smashing the ground, I burrowed and went between his legs and popped out on the other side.

Another Alliance character was just starting the quest. It wouldn't let me take control of another worm now that I had finished it, but I stood next to it and riddled it full of DoTs after he tagged it. So maybe that's the key? Get a friend or two to help you? If you look at the tooltip for the worm's melee attack, it says it causes a lot of threat. Why would it unless you're supposed to do it with other people?

Granted, cause of the phasing they'd have to be on the same stage of the quest chain, but you get credit for finishing the quest even when not controlling the worm.

Fantastic and creative quest IDEA, Blizz...but really poorly implemented. At the VERY least, fix the camera on some of these vehicle quests so you can see more than just your vehicle's back taking up the whole screen.

accidently just completed this quest without using the tamed jormungar.

Pretty trivial as a tank with more than 1k block value since he hits like a wimp, it just took about 10 minutes of running through him to avoid ground slam.

Read the quest half-way through killing him to realize my mistake but at that point it didn't matter. I still got credit when he died, anyway.

There's a cooldown on the skills, but no GLOBAL cooldown on the skills, you can hit both damaging skills at the same time.

Make sure to only hit tunnel and submerge once. Spamming that button can really mess up how the worm moves. Just spam 2+3 until you see him start to cast, hit 1 once, move foward (behind him), worm shouldn't ever drop below 50%

Ya you are right. the controls are abit sluggish. I was spamming 1 for the worm to come up and it took a few seconds for it to do so and same thing for going underground. I know it takes abit for the worm to come up but what I mean is that I am spamming 1 for it to come up and seems that the whole thing isnt responsive. the action bar is still the single spell for the worm to come up and the worm is still underground. 5 secs later it starts to come up. I'm not sure if this happens to everyone and I was sure not lagging so I don't know what the issue is there.

Do NOT wait for the Burrow animation to finish before moving. Just tap your Burrow ability once and start moving forward under him while the animation plays out. Once I figured this out, the fight was cake.

1. Spam 2+3
2. When Ground Slam warning comes, tap 1 and move forward immediately, running under him. Do not wait for the worm to go underground to start moving forward.
3. Repeat.

This worked for me:

1. Stack poison and do meleeattacks whenever he is not charging a slam.

2. When he is charging the slam (You'll notice an emote stating this) burrow instantly and move to left or right (i moved just outside his foot)

3. Emerge after his slam, he'll come right at you again, so you won't have to worry about moving into range, keep doing poison and meleeattacks

4. Repeat 1-3

I tought this was easy, my worm survived with 21k hp left. what i did was:

1. Took worm
2. Found giant
3. kept that acid thingy up while spamming melee
4. kept acid on 5 stacks renewed when it needed to be
5. finished off and 22g and new legs for me :P

This quest is more difficult then you might think. He has a ton of health and while the strategies mentioned previously in green posts are good, the controls are quirky and executing the moves can be tricky. I found there was a substantial delay when trying to go underground.

Anyway, an alternative strategy is to wait and watch someone else get him to half health or less (the usual amount on the first try), then when they die, he will be taggable and does not instantly go back to full health. I watched a hunter get him to 80k health, his worm died, he fought him down to 55k, then died, and I was able to finish him off for the easy finish.

If you're a competent tank, or even DPSer, It is easier and faster to just kill him with out the worm.

On my Frost DK in reg instance and quest blues he hits for around 700 and the stomp hits for around 4k-ish. I was doing at least quadruple the damage my worm was doing to him. On my feral druid it was the same story. It may have been bugged, I don't really know. I dropped him like a rock and only went down to 60% Health. No IBF, Lichborn, or Death strike.

Guess the old "Beat it with a sword till it stops moving" is more effective against his "Super armor" than using your leet worms leet acid.

The worm is extremely sluggish, especially the the Burrow/pup up ability. The acid spit has a very very narrow range of fire and if you miss once that's it for your worm. Get your Worm, find the giant, do what you can. If your worm dies just finish him off yourself. Not Nearly as hard to kill as one would think.

Also, Is this the biggest NPC in the game?

It killed my worm when it had 2k hp left, I fell out and finished it with a Hammer of Wrath^^
It bugged a little in the beginning and reseted a few times, but teh epic feeling I had after finishing off a gigant teh size of Orgrimmar with my hammer made up for the trouble.

Thanks to incredibly sluggish controls despite no latency or lag whatsoever, I finally got this on my fourth try. I kept spamming the melee attack while the acid spit was on cooldown, then tapped 1 as soon as I saw the slam warning. Got immediately behind the melee circle then tapped 1 again and started my acid+melee spam again.

Won the fight with 3k health left so it was a close one.

If you don't want to deal with the worms buggy controls, just solo it if you can. Solo'd as a Prot Warrior. Pretty darn easy, just stand up real close to him, almost inside him. When he does the Ground Slam just run through him. Just like Anub'arak's Pound ability in Azjol'nerub.

Pretty easy to do as everyone said, spam 2+3 , use 1 when he's about to do ground slam and thats it, your worm will die eventually so after that u just finish him off. Don't give up after your worm dies.
He's fairly soloable. Im elemental.

This quest is bugged *terribly*.

He resets randomly even if you've not moved far at all, and the area of his ground slam is entirely inconsistent. Sometimes you start moving ASAP and it still hits you, and other times you move a few inches and you're safe.

I seriously found it easier to find another player and just fight him myself (prot paladin). He doesn't hit all that hard, and FFS I can heal myself, unlike the dumb worm. Still got credit for the kill, and if I had known it was possible at all, I would have saved myself enough dead worms.

tl;dr: get a real group and do your own dirty work. Leave the Jormungar wrangling to the Earthen.

As a prot pala with 26k unbuffed and crit immune i soloed this guy from 100% and he hitted for about 329 every hit.
But this dippends on what ur curently using. Cloth user would take more dmg from his melee attacks

This guy hits like a girl but my worm kept glitching and I couldn't burrow or Resurface. So my worm died half way through the fight I said to hell with this... I am a 79 Frost Spec Tank with 540 def this guy never hit me for more then 1k usually between 700-1000 i just wailed on him and id get behind him turn around he'd blast the ground and id put up dots and spam death strike... another good method would be the kiting method Chains of ice >> icy touch>> icy touch >> blood boil >> death coil. not sure if he is immune to chains of ice though.. also ud have to take some dmg cuz you can only kite him so far. But if your a dk and your worm sucks might just be easier to get out half to 1/3 of his hp left and just dps him.

Be careful when submerging and running away as I found he can easily reset. I was submerging and running away from him whenever he did the ground slam, and I got too close to a mountain and he reset halfway through the fight. So try to keep him out in the open. Running behind him was a much better strategy.

I must have been lagging, although it didn't show on my meter (32ms latency). The Colossus did 10x damage to me that I did to him, no matter what. The controls were nearly unresponsive; backward or forward, there was no getting away from that ground slam, since the Colossus moved twice as fast as that damned worm!

Abandoned after 8th try; more stress than it's worth. I'll grab a guildmate later and do it the usual way.

Completely soloed it as a lv79 retri pala (WITH NO JORMUNGAR) with holy gear equipped (mostly lv70 epics). Tip to other retri palas: If you have a complete set of holy gear, just with retribution aura, blessing of might and seal of vengeance/corruption you can easily solo anything that hits you for less than 1500 or maybe 1800. Judgement keeps your mana topped up and shield of righteousness does some nice cheaply-mana-cost damage (580 normal for me). It took me 20 minutes though but it's fun it was quite the challenge without a worm.

Not only is it phased so that most of the mobs are despawned, it ALSO keeps you from partying up to do it together. Icy Touch + Plague Strike; completely skipped Scourge Strike.

Moving away from his Ground Slam was, of course, a must.
There's plenty of room to do so.

It took me a couple of attempts but I finally beat him. The acid spit will stack up to 5 times and really does good damage if you can get 5 up. The trick is when he does the ground slam, go underground and move to his back and then put up another acid spit. You have to be quick and do this before the DoT goes away. Spam the strike attack inbetween the acid spit. Also, watch to make sure you are facing the target when you come up from underground. It can be a little hard to tell and you can lose some valuable seconds. I got him down to around 10-15%. My worm died but I was able to finish him off myself.

Only one remark, when you press 1 to go underground don't wait until the worm is actually underground. Just press one and you can allready move. This gives some extra time to evade the ground slam attack.

HORRIBLE QUEST...yet again.

The worm controls suck. I'd hit the burrow command and immediately press forward, yet when the worm goes under and you're pressing forward, he actually starts to move the opposite direction once underground.

Then, once you want to emerge again, a simple click of the emerge button won't do the trick. You'd think it would, but don't kid yourself. I'd click it... nothing.. click it again, ok it emerges.. and once it emerges, your attack skills are not immediately available to you, it takes a couple seconds for them to appear, while in the meantime you're taking hits.

This quest is simply bad design, as are many of these types of quests in wotlk. They're trying to implement new quests in this expansion, but many of them are just fail.

Just did the quest. Killed him first time with little problem. Did NOT get a quest completion. Why? I have no idea. Had to drop and redo it.

What a clunky quest. The worm pops back up when you are still supposed to be underground, the mob breaks aggro way too easily for such a big mob, it isn't clear you actually pressed the action buttons, etc. Does anyone at Blizzard actually test this stuff? Just take a little more time to make sure that this stuff is implemented cleanly. Please.

Few pointers.

1. Dont mindlessy spam your acid dot.Let it tick for while and keep it refreshed rather in the end side of timer.That way I had full 5 stacks running almost whole fight.When you spam it on every cooldown you wont get full stacks running.

2.This may be personal preference, but I had bad results when I tried to go on his backside during his ground stomp.That way giant always got few extra hits on me. I got better result when I just stayed at his front side.When giant casted his stomp I turned around and went a bit backwards, popped back on surface and started pounding him again.You have plenty of time to do that and you wont get extra hits from giant that way.Dont go too far or else he resets. You get familiar with the right range fast. It is not very huge.

3.You cant turn and start moving during the animation when your worm dives to the ground.

These were key factors for me in this fight.

If you feel compelled you can drive the worm off the side of the cliff to see it's underground form, it looks flat and terribly deformed, I refused to hit the water as I was afraid of what bugs I might find =/

Note this can only be done before or directly after you kill the Colossus as you won't be able to get a new worm once you kill it and leave the vehicle.

Solo'd in a full set of tank gear. His very slow melee hits were less than 1k damage and the slam was 13k nature damage, a little more than half of an average heroic level tank's health. The fight took 3mins 26secs.

If your having trouble with the worms, I'd say either be a tank that can heal yourself a bit or bring a healer and your fine. I personalyl didn't even try using the worms though, maybe that way is easier... who knows. ^_^

Generally I applaud the implementation of vehicle's in World of Warcraft. This quest demonstrates everything that's wrong with the vehicle system. Sluggish controls, specific positioning, and no matter what some other nerd has suggested; the controls ARE sluggish with keyboard usage.

It's the absence of any kind of cast bar and the apparent delay when submerging that probably gets most; but I found that while you're in the mode to spam 2 and 3 you find yourself spamming 1 to dig, which will likely drop you under and pop you right back up again. Once submerge is cast it should have an increased cooldown a second or two to prevent it being re-cast. That would help immensely in design imho.

I just completed this quest and it was quite funny, my worm died pretty quick because I didnt know his slam ability did so much damage, about 15k to be exact and the controls on the worm kinda were buggy. I got him down to 35% and I lost my worm, but I just went bear and tanked him to the end. It was really buggy because he was so big, but really good fun to tank it. Just make sure you avoid his slam or you'll probably be dead in one or two hits. Look for the 'The Iron Collosus prepares to slam the ground in front of him' raid warning message. You don't have to move too far out of range to avoid it. His melee attack just tickles in bear form (for about 700). Be fun to tank it from 100% I bet. (I was level 80 with 425 def and 32k armor for reference)

I was having problems with the sluggish controls too and had my worm killed. I was not happy, so took a few swings myself at the colossus before taking off to get the next worm to try again. Imagine my surprise, after reading the comments here, the big lug follows me all the way back to the worm handler, letting me mount a new worm and proceed killing him! I'm a level 80 palladin and you probably do need to be able to heal yourself to get away with this trick.

after trying to solo this about 7 times, i actually had to group with someone to complete this... the latency and general lag of the worms blows, especially if you aren't a tank and have to dismount, you probably have little chance of surviving. i (hunter) used aspect of the wild and grouped with a paladin... problem solved, he went down easy.

One quick thing... you don't need to be on the worm for the quest to complete.

I just did it on my druid, when I finally completed it I missed one of the ground slams because the worm was facing the opposite direction when it submerged (until then I had a small lead on him on health %). When my worm died he was very low on health so I went bear form and started attacking him. He took about 40% of my HP before the next ground slam, I ran behind him, healed myself, back to bear and he died before the next ground slam.

Probably wouldn't have needed to heal if I was wearing tanking gear, though (I was wearing DPS gear), he didn't seem to hit that bad, I'd bet any tanking capable class can finish him off like that as well with some tanking gear and a pot (if you can't heal yourself).

When doing this quest, I severely messed up using my worm; it ended up dying about 50k into the Iron Colossus' health. I found, however, that the giant was fairly easy to solo without the worm. I don't intend to self-aggrandize, merely stating that any hybrid DPS class capable of self-heals should be able to tank the Colossus' rather pitiful damage and take him down solo, if they run into trouble.

You want to lose as little time as possible to moving around, that way you have more time to attack and less chance of losing the 5 poison stacks. Start in front of him, very close to his selection circle (the circle on the ground when you target him). If you do your attacks fast enough you can squeeze in 3 melee attacks between every poison attack. As soon as he starts casting slam, submerge and move forward to his back. If you were close to his center you only have to move a few yards and you can emerge and reapply the poison, 3x melee attack etc. Like someone else said, after you emerge make sure to aim your worm at him before you use poison.

Remember also that emerge/submerge are 1 sec casts, that's why it appears sluggish but 1 tap on the button (without moving) really is enough.

This quest is so bugged it's $%^&ing ridiculous.

A 3 second gap between submerging, leading you to press submerge again... which means you automatically comeup when it does finally fire. Most of the time you're left with "submerged" controls after coming up leading to you being unable to do anything.

If it wasn't part of a major quest chain I'd advise skipping it.

Well I did this qst in 2 parts on my lvl 80 Heroic geared unholy DK and it was quite funny.
1. First, I got the worm, and engaged the collosus. kept submerging at the right time, but did not know I has still going to get hurt while underground. So I ended up with the worm dead while the boss was still at 65% health...
2. Then I just decided to fight him myself. My ghoul was out so that helped. Changed my rotation to include a few death strikes to keep getting back some health. When he casted his slam, i just ran behind him and there was no damage. Got him within 1 minute.. qst complete.

In retrospection, this is not recommended for any squishy class or/and if u don't have at least some self heal ability( i tried it later on my lock and failed, his melee was hitting too hard). A pala probably does not even need to get the worm and do it just as easily. I did not use my army, but that might have been a good move because I had better control over which side he was facing when he started to slam. BTW, I did not even summon my gargoyle... just completely forgot about it :)

After the 3rd time I tried to submerge and come back under/behind him, and not being fast enough to turn and face him to cast the acid I just gave up, let the worm die...and pet tanked him (80 Hunter, 2 piece T7, 1 piece T7.5, mostly other 25man/10man gear).

The pet I had at the time was a Crab I was leveling, he was only 78.

So he can be taken down if you have the gear and the worm dies. Do all you can though with the worm, not sure I could have DPSed down 350k, lol. In all honesty if you just keep the pet on him, call the pet back when he does the ground slam, FD when you can and heal the pet often you *might* be able to. Wouldn't suggest it though!

Edit: Just noticed I didn't have any Aspect on, forgot that I had used cheetah to go pick up the worm again ;-(.

80level hunter - did not need the pants, just tried the quest - you can not kite him with a regular speed toon. his one step will allow him to catch you.

do not submerge and attempt to go under him or behind him, he will take half you life away in one hit.

the worms damage is not sufficient to take hime down fast, and the stack is too slow to damage him. if he hits you twice, game over, thanks for playing.

Tip for well geared tank classes, you can solo him pretty easily by ditching the lame worm and then just tank and spank, but remember to run between his legs when he does his ground pound.

I did it as 80 unholy DK in frost pressence whitout breaking a sweat, wearing quest blues and 3 crafted epics.

well of all of the 'heres a vehicle, use it to kill a monster elite' quests in wotlk that i've done so far (and i've done quite a few) this is by far the most challenging. even the drakuru quest chain in ZD wasn't this hard. there's a delay on all the abilities by this jorumgar so take that into account when fighing the collosus.

Believe it or not, i actually did this without riding the jormoungar or whatever. As a ret paladin, this was pretty easy. If a player ahs completed this quest and you ask them to help you, they will not see the Giant to attack and they will not see you as well (so no heals either). Got fed up with standard Quest method of combating him and defeated him normal combat. Just kept pumping the damage. Started with night of the dead, each time pet was near death healed myself with Death Pact, then created new pet. 80 DK, unholy spec. Used one Runic heal. When cooldown up Raise Dead again and use pet to heal before it dies. Each time he tried to slam ran out of area. Gear not that great, AH bought and BS made stuff. Not bragging just saying it can be done, probably more easily than I did, since I don't really have that good of stuff. For anyone who gets frustrated with standard Quest method of killing him.

As the skills do not have a Global Cooldown mash the spit and strike keys at the same time for the entire battle, when the warning that he is going to strike the ground in front of him press one to go underground but do not wait for the animation of the worm burrowing, you are already underground and can move behind him while the animation is catching up, remember you dont have any immunity being underground, just if you are behind him.

After reading everything here and dying multiple times, I just recommend doing it with 2 people. It's definitely easy with 2; neither of us even got to half health on the worm. Just grab a friend or yell for someone in the area to help and save yourself a repair bill and a frustrating time.

Submerging and going behind the Iron Colossus when he does his ground smash DOES NOT WORK, he turns to where you are and hits you anyway. What you have to do is submerge and back up, there's enough time to move out of range of his attack and instantly start on him again. Once I found that out, was easy, finished with 30% health left.

Just did this quest. Rather easy actually. He does not turn when you go under him if he's in the middle of casting that great big ground stomp. Maybe folks are going too far past him after going under.

You can build up to 5 acid burns on him (number 3 ability) while hitting him with damage ability (number 2). As soon as he starts casting, submerge and go under him. You'll take about 950 damage from the stomp. Turn and come up and start again, watching for the moment he starts that cast.

Again, easy fight.

When I was fighting with the Worm I got the Iron Colossus down to 40K hp before he killed me once out I just started to hit him with my toon and killed him each one of his hits does about 700-1000 On a plate dps.

I would suggest stripping your equipment off of yourself before you start. I died several times and it was easier to use the Spirit Healer rather than run back to your body, which still has an 80 elite stomping around it. It ended up costing me 40 gold to repair everything. >_>

Also, I had no success in dodging his Slam attack using the 'get behind' him tactic. Most of my deaths were caused by that. Instead, when the warning came up I picked one of his feet and moved to the side of it.

I found that rather than submerging and trying to run underneath him its better to strafe from side to side. Often the colossus would miss entirely and then you can pop right back up and begin again. controls are still way to sluggish imo

I just did this quest tonight, I was about to give up but just changed my strategy a bit.

I got the worm and just went up to the crest of the snowdrift plains and let the Iron Colossus come to me.
I started with '3' and then hit '2' a couple of times waiting for the cd on 3, then hit 3 again.
I repeated that till i had 5 stacks of the DoT on him, not once did i go back underground, I died like 5 times before trying to dodge him going back underground, so just ignore 1.
It seemed that if i timed it right, I was able to interrupt the ground slam with both 2 & 3.

So the pattern was just 3, 2, 2, 3, rinse, repeat... he was down in like 3 minutes.
One other thing, not sure if it matters, but I made sure to pivot my view so i could see his head... might have made a difference, might not.

exept that what I did is I used the "leet acid skills" got his health down to around 275k health and my worm died. during the fight, my army of dead was on cooldown (im blood frost so my army of dead had a 20 min cooldown (at the time a 14 min left, just used it before in a quest to kill chillmaw now back on topic) when he started to cast the shockwave skill i used chains of ice and ran ... 7 seconds later ran back his aoe MISSED and spammed death strike and pestilence (pestilence for disease refreshing purposes when you have the glyph)
Im really low dps but I have great mitigation and defense so melle attacks are practically nothing. So when i got him down to around 50-25k health my army of dead refreshed and after that my minion's did all the work. At the end of the fight i had 23.5k out of 25k (no I was not fully geared at the time I had 4 epics and alot of superiors) health left (due to mitigation) and a ready death strike willing to heal 3k. My reccomendations to similar dks is screw the worm. Attacking it head on will be much easier.
note: i don't reccomend that strategy (not the exact stategy) for any other class except for mabey a non-healer paladin or a prot warrior, druid, Demo warlock (mabey if you are stupid enough to spam fear and lucky enough not to aggro or if you spec with siphon life and use health funnel on you void while keepping up a steady corruption stream and have tons of +damage and +healing), BM hunter mabey, or a fully geared frost mage with gear from raids or arena (if you are lucky when it comes to keeping it away from you), and a fire mage or sublety rogue that can crit 315k (although I doubt that would be able to happen it would b funny to watch though). other than that DO NOT TRY! Although I find it hard to find a clothie that thinks he can solo a mob with 315k health without critting 315k so i trust you... sort of :)

ROFL....not sure what's more funny: me not knowing to use worms for this fight, or me actually soloing him without anything but popping all cd's. Enhance Shaman (80) once again prevails. Dropped my totems including heroism, wolves out, gift of naaru and shamanistic rage half way through. Only got hairy once when i didnt move for first stomp and dropped to about 5% health. Once I understood to move on that move, maelstorm instant heals were enough to outlast him. Found him patting in snowdrift plains. Absolutely huge npc, cant miss him. Good luck, I imagine theres only a couple classes that can solo him outside of the worms.

I was getting extremely frustrated by the sluggish controls. It made it nearly impossible.

So, as a 79 unholy/frost DPS in frost pres. with quest blue tank gear, I just went in there and killed it solo.

Although you can hit him from pretty far away, even with close-range melee, focus on the red target circle, and stay as close to it as possible, spamming Death Strike whenever possible. When he starts casting his big smash, just run through the red target circle (which is much smaller than the actual monster) and stand on the other side. He won't turn around till he's done casting, and with okay armor, you should be able to outheal what he damages, if you don't get smashed.

It took be about 5 minutes, but it was much, much less frustrating.

You were submerging too soon. You have to wait until the ground slam starts and then he won't turn. The biggest problem with the whole quest are the controls for the submerge/re-emerge (they lag). After about 4 tries of getting slammed I was just a little more patient with moving forward until the worm submerged. If I tried to move before the submerge the worm would go in a random direction instead of straight ahead

I tried the submerge and 'run behind' approach twice and each time he'd hit me for 14k after I submerged and burrowed under him. When I emerged on the other side, the acid debuff was gone as well. I was successful spamming the attack and acid spit until the warning followed by submerge and a 2-3 second run back toward the control orb (literally counting one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three-one thousand). With this approach I moved just far enough to avoid his ground slam, the debuff continued to build and I took him down.

Kinda borked the atempt while on the Jormungar and thought I was done for but when I got dismounted the colossus hit me for just around ~2k, placed my totems, called my trusty wolves and went into a bloodlust - needless to say he fell quite easily. I was a level 80 enhancement shaman with mostly heroic equip.

So it's probably easier to just use the orb for one part of the quest objectives then rush the mob down.

After a couple of attempts at using the worm I gave up and just solo'd him.
79 DK using blood tanking spec.

He has a *huge* hit box, and I worked out if you stand at max range of the hit box when he does the slam you don't get hit.

So I presume anyone who is capible of healing themselves and taking a few hits could solo this guy without using the pet.

Very easy fight.

1. Get your worm.

2. Run up from there until you find him.

3. Wait for him to turn around then when he is at range, hit him with your acid ( Try to stack till 5) on its cooldown hit him with 2

4. When he gets ready to slam you, hit 1 and move sidways because he only hits in the center.

After using this site for an indeterminate amount of time I've finally decided to create a post simply because of how insanely easy this quest was.

You don't even need the worm to beat the giant. Regardless of the fact that I'm lvl 79 doing the quest, the giant never even touched me when I was off the worm.

I completed this my first try. Found the worm and headed out to fight the giant. I followed the previous suggestions just so I wouldn't have to do it again. I spammed the attacks so that I would always cast one of the two as soon as it cooled down. My worm ended up dying so, being the ballsy person I am, I decided to fight on foot. The trick with running between his legs before he smashes the ground is to wait for when it begins the attack. That is when he stops turning to face you and you're clear to get behind him. I simply stayed on the red target circle on the ground attacking. Half of the times he used the ground smash he tried to get some distance between us, but that distance was easily recovered before he even began the attack. The fight may have taken longer but it was the easiest fight I've encountered in the entire game going up against something higher lvl than myself.

You have three abilities, a submerge ability which makes you unable to attack, but you have to Submerge to move. You also have a castable melee attack which causes a considerable amount of damage. Thirdly, you have a DoT acid spit attack.

Once you engage the enemy (just type /tar Iron while west of the Cradle and you'll find him, he's quite large), put the third ability (DoT) on him and start spamming 2. Whenever 3 is not on cooldown, cast it. When it emotes that he is about to slam the ground, hit 1 and get behind or beside him. Once he's done, emerge from the ground and repeat.

Simple fight.

I didn't pay enough attention to the quest and didn't realize I had to use some tamed pet. I'm an 80 DK with Blood Tank spec, and I killed him. When he hit me with his slam and took 75% of my health I thought I was screwed, but after I recovered with Rune tap and a Pot, when I got the message he was going to slam I jumped and ran backwards and shot him with Death Coil. It was hard and it probably took me 15 mins of jumping around, that and I popped off my Army of the Dead twice, so it was > 10 mins.

I'd go the easy route though and get that worm.

Super easy quest. I only had one problem with it. When I mounted the Jormunger it wouldn't move. Problem solved, hit the burrow button and roam around til you locate the big guy. It shouldn't take long he's REALLY BIG. There's only one button necessary to take him out, the number three acid spit. When you're ready to re-surface just target the colossus and bang away at acid spit. I completed the whole quest in about 2 minutes.

weird happenings on this quest....i got the colossus to around 30% hp in my jormunguar and accidentally got hit with ground slam...predictably this got the jormunguar killed :(

so usually my next best strat is to burn the mob because im a DK and have that option unlike you rogues and mages :D

anyway so i start bashing on him (ran circles around him for the remaining ground smashes) and lo and behold i downed him.....i dont have any idea why it happened, i just know i burned 50k on a mob that is NOT supposed to be able to be killed by little ol me

The controls are NOT laggy, as stated above - they are just as responsive as any other vehicle quest. You need to stop moving to 'un-burrow' which is probably why the posters above experienced delay. When you back up, you need to stop moving, and then hit 1 to unburrow and continue attacking.

79 retribution paladin.. i couldnt get the hang of using the worm so.. on my 3rd try i didnt bother submerging.. i just let the worm stack on some acid DoT (and used its attack while acid was cooling down) until the ground slam killed him.. it had about 250-280k health left and i fought him like normal on a single target 80 elite.. and just ran under him whenever ground slam cast bar started.. healed with holy light here and there.. used judgments everytime they cooled down to keep my mana up..

except i had to use a runic mana potion early on because at first i was checkin my health bar constantly to see if he was hittin too hard.. i was trying to figure out if i should bother keeping up trying.. and i missed my mana regen from judgments.. but after i used the runic mana potion i realized this could be done easily.. so i focused on my action bar buttons with the occasional glance at my health to know when to heal.. np

It occurs to me that this is one of those quests that is easy as hell for regular PVPers and raiders, bur nearly impossible for players who do not raid or PVP. Positioning is everything. If you cannot get yourself in position to avoid the golem's slams, you will not be able to beat him. However, if you can get in position to avoid a slams - a skill that regular raiding and PVP teaches - then you can beat him easily, even without the worm.

My advice, then, is this: If you do not raid or PVP regularly, abandon this quest. Don't waste your time dying, swearing, and wondering why you cannot complete this quest even when you follow the advice on Wowhead as closely as you can. On the other hand, if you happen to raid or PVP regularly, then go for it.

If you're bad with the worm, you can always use it to lower the Colossus' health as much as you can, and attempt to solo yourself.

With my mana regen as a 77 Resto Shaman, my healing and mana easily outpaced its damage, and Fire Elemental Totem and Magma Totems were free to deal the damage. I suspect this would also be soloable as a Blood DK.

The orb is north of 'Snowdrift's 'Snow' word on map.

Just get your worm up go near him start stacking acid and hit heroic strike kinda thing when your acid is on cooldown. When it says 'Iron Collossus prepares to slam the ground infront of him just get in ground and move to his sides or to his back and get out of ground.

Solo'd as a 79 Demo Lock in quest blues/greens without a wurm.

I read a few of the posts here first and because a) I couldn't find the wurms I needed to tame and b) I was too lazy to look, I decided to try and solo. Another poster mentioned that this guy doesn't hit as hard as he looks like he would so I figured why not. This couldn't have been more true! The fight took roughly 5 minutes but he didn't hit me once and there were no "oh crap!" moments for keeping my pet alive.

I was a bit worried about his slam attack and a few posters mentioned burrowing and walking to the other side with your wurm to avoid it, and well that is what it appears my pet did every time. I don't think my pet got slammed once which allowed me to hang out to the side of the colossus and avoid the slam as well.

Therefore, the fight is pretty basic . . . dots, funnel and snag you a pair of nice blue pants :)

as of right now the colossus has 315k hp. i got the colossus down to about 100k with the worm, then i left the vehicle and attacked him normally.

hit me for around 2.3k per hit as a dest lock. used a pot and a healthstone along with my voidwalker tanking for 2 seconds before i pulled aggro. use vw shield and you'll be good.

I kind of failed my first attempt and only got him halfway down. I happened to have my dk's T9 tank gear on and I just solo'd him. He wasn't really that hard at all. I was spec'd blood and I just used my self heals whenever I needed it. Pretty easy.

Fun thing you can do with the worm when your with someone else doing the same quest.
DUEL

1 person gets on the worm while the person you're dueling doesn't
the person with the worm targets the other person and types /duel
2nd person accepts and runs to the controller and gets on a worm

now you can duel each other using the worms abilities, you don't lose if your worm dies until you yourself has also been beaten or you can just run to the controller again and get on a worm

I got him on my first attempt. Pretty easy fight, if i had remembered to go behind him when he used Ground Slam.
After my worm died, he only had 100.000 HP left or so, i was able to beat the last life out of him using my normal attacks.

I though this was a very easy fight,didnt even lose the worm,all i did was spam the strike attack,use the acid spit whenever it was off of cd and there is plenty of warning when he gets ready to strike the ground,it is also a cast so even with the warning you have plenty of time to react,when the warning pops up for ground strike simply submerge the worm,you will take some damage but not near as much as if you are above ground.when it was done worm was still just under 1/3 HP and colossus was dead.

I find this works with very few bosses in WoW though I am always surprised to find how often it is suggested here on the forums!

First try, I failed, but only cause I ran too far out of range when he slammed, and he reset.

Second time, got him to 70K and my worm died. Popped Mirrors/IV/Trinks/Enchs/Ele and pew-pew'd him down with Frostbolts :D Had to Cold Snap for an Ice Barrier once, and used Lifeblood (Herby Heals), but we got him down

tried this today and downed him on 5th attempt.
1/ do not submerge and go behind , by the time the slow control has taken you under and you move you will get hit by slam.
2/ as soon as you enter combat hit acid then number 2 twice then acid again etc etc - unfortunately this is bugged as I hit him with acid on two occassions it did not REFRESH the stack so it ran out and I died
3/ when you see him start to cast slam , press submerge, go under and then back up as far as you can until slam hits and it will miss you.
3/ come straight up after slam miss and acid attack first then repeat step 2 and 3 until dead.

I'm working on my Loremaster/Seeker achievements and just completed this quest on my second attempt. I totally fudged the controls for the jormungar -- the lag between when you press submerge and when you submerge on screen threw me off hard. Luckily, I was able to get the colossus down to 20% before my jormungar died, and I finished the colossus off on my own. (L80 hunter in full ICC10 gear).

So, if you get the guy down far enough, you might be able to finish him off yourself instead of resetting it. Good luck!

I easily did this as a LVL 80 Prat Pally. XD But sadly, I used the worm the whole time. It was much more fun for me that way.

All you have to do, is load on the worm.
Go toward the big giant.(I usually just sat there tell he turned around)
When he sees you, immediately! use the melee attack then poison!
When poison is cooling down just mash the melee! xD
When he does his hammer/fist thing, just move back a few steps, he wont do a lot of damage. I just counted to 5 then stopped.
When he's down to half health, that's when he starts taking in full affect of the poison(Assuming you should have stacked 5 up to now)
And start dieing more quickly.
Then it's over before you know it! :D Only took me really, 2 and half minutes. Simple simple quest. And good reward too!

Just so you know tankidins, he is soloable after your worm dies.

Made the mistake of not coming here first to read the strat and just went on after him. Worm died prolly with him at 70% health. Didn't want to die without a fight so did the normal seal/judge of light combo and that pretty much healed 80% of his damage. I was shocked. I used Divine Plea to keep my mana up, and the normal tankidin combat moves to drain him.....slowly. Just run right through him when his ground move is casting. I always stopped and turned around once I got past his giant red circle on the ground. If you have poj you might be able to get there fast enough to cast a quick heal with no interruptions but that prolly won't be nessicary with the judge/seal light combo. Maybe for ret who I think should also be able to take this guy. Also I did use loh just to seal the deal. A simple heal would work but I wanted to be sure.

In all it took around 8-10mins and I was praying some 80 horde wasn't going to interupt me at the end, such would be my luck.

First time out, went up to him as he approached me, got into it, got hit by the ground pound etc, was killed. Second time, followed him to end of his route (got a bit brighter :( ) and kited him back towards the jormungar keeper area. As per the previous, hit 3 and spammed 2 until 3 cooled down, hit 3 again and repeat. Two dives and backwards a bit, then up and repeat. Did it on the second try and I am pretty sad on quests where control of something else is required. Thanks to those who went before.

After much work, I actually managed to solo this without the worm on my hunter with my turtle tanking. My turtle, even when put on stay, kept moving out of range of the Mend Pet whenever the colossus tried to slam the ground(even though the 1 time it got it, it was only for 1000) so it took many tries.
This is not suggested. Do the tactics above, do not think "315k? I can do this."

I got him down to 75k before jormungar died im a hunter so i through up a mend pet fegined death and disengaged and was able to kill him,, but i am a lvl 80 hunter geared for icc10 heroic, and possibly icc 25 heroic.

Well i used the worm, and it got killed pretty fast, i thing the game was glitching, cause the spells wouldnt work right, so once he killed my worm, i just solo'd him, pretty easy as a lvl 80 unholy DK with 5.5gs. he took maybe a quarter of my health. when he did the ground thing i just ran behind him.

I tried this quest with the worm at first, but it died, so I just killed him by myself. I'm a hunter, so I had my bear out so he could keep the aggro during the fight. It worked perfectly fine, I completed the quest. So it is doable without the worm. You just have to repeatedly heal and heal and heal your pet, and eventually you'll succeed. ;)

After reading through the notes above, I decided I was too tired and grumpy to try to figure out yet another mount quest. Since I was driving a lev-80 prot pally with green and some blue gear (nothing above item lev-200 and quite a bit 167-187), I decided to just hit the guy with my club and see what happens.

His hits took my 24400 health down to around 10k, which a 3-stack of HP and WoG took right back up to full. Used normal tank 'n spank tactics with WoG self heals, a bit of patience to wear down the health, then go collect the reward.

My guess is that any tank class with 170-200 gear can take this guy down without breaking a sweat. Just hit him till he falls down, then go collect the reward.

Okay. Got this quest and looked around for the Worm thingy but i couldn't find it. So, i just got into bear form and soloed it. and boy let me tell you.... It was extremely easy. I have crap gear and my HP in bear form is just around 30K. It was too easy that i didn't even bother to move away from his ground slam thingy. I just took the damage and Leader of the pack did the healing for me.

As a protection paladin I managed to kill it, but half way without worm, my worm died when it was about 120k HP, I gave up and started running back to get another worm to start over. in mean time it started chasing me and started casting its slam, I noticed a blue shade over snow, I just run out of that shade and its slam didn't catch me, then started attacking it myself, and also healing, and running when I saw the slam cast bar. finally it fall and I could get the quest items.

Few more things to add
1 - I had 22k health and My gear were

Ornate Saronite Battlegear full set (no enchant)
Stalactite Chopper
Tharon'ja's Aegis

all items lower or equal to 187.

2- The quest chain ends here, I'm not sure which quests are referred above as 30 continuing quests so I think if you abandon this quest you can do rest of them.

3- if you run to get another worm, the king will go back to start position and reset to full health

4- The quest reward was terrible in terms of gold, selling price and also level and stats!

I got him first try. The worm was almost dead but the colossus died first. By that time his health was low enough that I could have finished him off myself if the worm had died. Here's the strategy I used:

You MUST avoid his ground slams. As SOON as the warning message pops up, hit your dive key. You do NOT have to wait until your worm is under the ground to move. As soon as he starts to burrow you can move. I ran behind him.

So. Keep your acid (3) stacked up, spam your attack button (2) in between acids. Burrow when he slams, hit your acid again upon emergence. It was close but not as hard as I thought.

I think the Storm King's Vengeance in Zul'Drak (The Storm King's Vengeance) was much harder.

I used one worm as a level 77 Shadow Priest in two Cata greens. Masochism kept my mana up the entire time (10% mana per hit taken) and I just flash healed and let my DoTs get him down.

Call me crazy but I just managed to solo this guy on my 78 Prot pally.

I fought him with the worm till about 80% health when he killed my worm, planned to just run away but then I realized I was only being hit for about 1k each. I stood my ground slowly beat him down while focusing on keeping myself healed. I was able to finish the fight in about 10 minutes, using Ardent Defender once and none of my other "Oh ^&*!" abilities. I would also like to note that I did run underneath him when he used Ground Slam and was able to avoid it all but twice.

I tried a couple times to control the silly worm. Eventually it died and threw me out onto the snow. I ended up having to fight the Colossus by hand. I beat it no prob with melee and still had 80% life left. I moved a bit when it was going to do the slam thing but still only took a minute. Lvl 82 Death Knight (Unholy). When the Colossus died, I got the quest complete message. So.. don't need worm for quest.

This quest was a pain in the *#($&*. I had to do it about ten times. The worm is slow and cumbersome and can't seem to avoid being hit whether you go under him or away from him. The best advice here was to stack the acid to 5. Finally he dies but he's a *)(* cause that worm is a lame piece of crap

Just done this quest.

For those of you who can't find the worm....out of the refuge and its about 11 'o' clock position right near the cliff ledge. Click on the orb next to worm.

Once u have the worm, the rest should be easy. Go under the snow towards the Iron Colossus. I personally only went as far as the end of the bluey icy looking bit in ur mini map and waited for Iron C to come to me.

Once he was there its easy....REALLY! Up out of the snow and just keep clicking the 2 attack options u have. I didn't move once...even when getting hit. I only went down to 65% health! :D The damage ur getting isn't that much. Didn't move once...keep hitting ur 2 attacks....thats it. The acid option does most damage so make sure u hit it as soon as its ready!

This quest seems worse now than it ever has before. I've leveled 5 characters through Storm Peaks before Cataclysm and even though the quest was buggy @ times, but I was able to kill the giant in 1 or 2 tries using the worm @ level (78-79).

Now I'm back on this quest (5-6 attempts so far) w/ a level 78 rogue (14k hp) and it seems to be a complete mess. The worm is extremely slow to commands, when submerging it randomly faces different directions, being behind the giant submerged during ground slam will still do damage and the acid spray is not landing on the giant most of the time. The worm damage output vs the damage input seems to be completely lopsided...then again if things worked right......

EDIT: Was able to take him down by staying directly under the giant and moving just enough to get behind him for ground slam. Seems that by being right underneath the acid spray will land most of the time (I still had a few miss). The worm still died w/ the giant @ 30% hp, but w/ evasion and recuperate I was able to take him down the rest of the way. Seems to be I was just lucky not to get hit w/ any ground slams this attempt (even though I was behind him on other attempts and getting hit). Good luck.

That's what I suggest doing, the time it takes is about the same, and it is much easier. No laggy controls and stuff :).

As noted above, you do not need to ride the jormungar to complete the quest.

Without the impediment of riding a worm, Colossus is kind of wimpy. I made it my priority to heal my wolf, but funny enough, he dodged most stomps. Colossus was brought down in fairly short time by kill command, bestial wrath, and hunter's mark with arrows and traps. Go figure.

I think that the dwarves on the ridge are having a very good laugh at our expense!

Currently doing this and one thing that I want to stress is that the acid spit attack is EXTREMELY NARROW. To the point that it's ridiculous! Standing right in front of him didn't work as it'd just end up in between his legs? It's best standing to the side, although with the ^&*!ty controls it's a hassle to get repeatedly good spots.

I completed this quest on my 77 prot pally. It took several minutes for me to kill him, but in the end, it was much faster than the worm. I used my worm 3-4 times and finally decided to just kill it myself.

I mostly used Avenger's Shield and Crusader's Strike. Ran underneath his legs when he started to stomp. It's best to save holy power for when you're at about 50-50% and just pop Word of Glory. Basically tank and spank.

Much easier than using the worm and less of a pain in the neck.

I tried a variety of methods listed here. After a while I just gave up and didn't bother with the worm and just attacked him myself. As a 79 Enhancement Shaman with feral spirit and using greater healing wave every time maelstrom popped I was able to down him on my 2nd try.

The worm is useless. Soloed as a 78 RetPally with some cata greens. He's pathetic lol took about 8 minutes but easier than the worm. Give it a shot. You'll be fighting his feet so try to attack the red circle area on the ground so you don't miss him. Pretty cool to fight him but you can't see him! lol

Yeah as of 4.x the acid appears to not be working. My worm died and I got out and easily downed him from about 50% with my usual rotation (lvl79 shadow priest) plus some off-healing. This quest used to be an annoying pain in the ass and now it's a broken annoying pain in the ass, whereas it SHOULD be a fun epic quest where you use a giant worm to kill a massive iron giant. Sigh.

If you're a pet class avoiding using the broken worm, be prepared to do some weird dancing around the field to keep (1) in range to heal your pet and (2) (for hunters) far enough away to shoot. The colossus' hitbox is really weird - close enough to heal your pet is often too close for your ranged hunter skills. At least your pet's smart enough to move away when the colossus is getting ready to stomp - kudos on at least coding that right, Blizzard.

This is by the the worst quest I have tried in a minute. I'll list the reasons below.

You try to dot him with the acid and it doesn't work maybe 75% of the time no matter how close you are. Stacking? I never even got it to do that.

Laggy controls.

Re-emerging turned around the wrong way happens alot.

At best I was able to get him to a little over half health. Luck. I would just advise skipping this quest. The blues are good but you will be in Cata soon so it doesn't matter. That giant can just kick rocks as far as I am concerned..

I personally found it far easier to come back at a higher level and fight the boss manually. Even below the cap you can get together a few 75's and take him down without having to worry about the worm (or its brutal latency).

Hi, it's 2012 here, and judging by the comments this quest has always been awful. You keep acid up as much as possible. The submerging/dodging/etc did NOT work for me. Hell, he even evaded once because of it. So if you fail once trying that, you might be better off not even bothering. I had to endure and spam acid, then finish him off when my worm died. Which isn't fun as a rogue, we don't have OP heals. *cough*

This isn't one of those quests that are impossible to do, but it will annoy you and most likely take several tries and a good amount of your time. Unless you're a DK or huntard, apparently.

Two things. Someone mentioned that when you're starting the quest and choose your worm, that you should choose the Level 80 opposed to a Level 79 worm given the option.. There is no difference. I chose a Level 80 worm, and the one I ended up in was Level 78. So pick whichever, you won't gain the upperhand. The second thing, is that I tried this quest at least 14 times, and not once did I manage to get the DoT on him. He can kick you from much farther away than you can spray acid at him, so even if he's kicking your face in, make sure you tunnel closer to the red "Target" circle on the ground or the DoT won't take. Finially realized I wasn't close enough, Tried again closer, and completed it with no problem.

Well, first of all, and I'm writing for people who, as I did,come here to find how this quest works, the Jormungars are located to far west cliff, not to the north as stated.

Then another trick is the Colossus stays idle while casting his dreaded slam. It has been reported that he was turning to face the fleeing player, but it's some kind of display bug : he actually doesn't, so keep on going straight ahead to his back, until you get out of the effect area.

Now I found it was impossible to stack 5 DOTs on him. Because of the cooldown duration, you actually can't stack more than 2 until it casts his slam, and hardly can strike him more than 3 or 4 times in the meanwhile.

All this exposed, I could get him to about 10% of his health before my Jormungar died. Then of course, he begun to hit me directly, and believe me, he strikes hard. :P

I was playing my warlock, so you can imagine it wasn't cloth "armor" that would protect me.

But this time, instead of fleeing back to the handlers, I was prepared : I had my Void Walker handy instead of the Felguard. It's far better at keeping aggro and has 50% more hit points, so I just finished the Colossus the classical way : keeping the Void on it, and spamming DOTs, spells and health funnel to heal the Void, until it went down.

Of course, different classes would have to use wisely their own capabilities. Hunters should select a tanking pet, Mages should go frost for ice shield and kitting abilities, while hand-to-hand classes should rely on plate armor and/or tanking abilities, in order to stay alive long enough to take down the Colossus' remainng hit points.

There has got to be a bug still in this quest. After reading previous posts and following the advice, I still can't complete it even after 20 attempts, (83 Rogue.) The controls lag and I seem to always be out of range even when the boss is right in front of me.

Submerging and going under him does no good as I always end up in front of him, he turns with me. I don't think this is a display issue. Also, once he starts slamming the ground, he does not stop but slams continuously. Also, I have yet to figure out how the mana works on the controls. Unlike other quest controls, there is no way to rejuvenate yourself, so my worm dies quite quickly.

That said:

The big thing is to not get hit, ever, by his ground attack (which is a lag issue) and to make sure to refresh the DOT before submerging to avoid the attack. Save every 3rd DOT CD for refreshing just before you submerge.

I am level 80 DK skipped the rigamaroll (?) and just attacked him. Used a potion of super speed or something like that which gave me a plus 225 haste and summoned the legion of undead and he dropped like a bad habit. (Just FYI)

Easily soloed on my level 79 discipline priest. Simply maintain Power Word: Shield and Prayer of Mending at all times, spam Smite, and use Holy Fire and Penance whenever off cooldown. The only slight challenge was mana, but use of one Runic Healing Potion brought me back up high enough to successfully complete the encounter.

I beat it with a tactic similar to solos2 except I had to be super close to the thing to hit it with the acid reliably. So I started out close to him, about right under his feet. Then when he started to slam the ground I ran straight behind him but turned around to the left or right near the back of his feet as he was also turning. He ended up missing me this way and I was close enough to hit him good with the acid attack. He will still end up hitting you with his normal attack once before you reemerge but its better than emerging only to find yourself able to hit him with your melee attack but not your acid one while he is pounding away at you. And yes my worm died but the enemy died from the acid soon after and didn't land a single blow on me. It maybe could work better than it did for me but I got it the first time I tried it this way. If you play with a Hunter, don't bother to get a Jormungar worm. Since the ver. 5 (Mists of Pandaria) patch, this Iron Colossus is a joke. See for yourself.

(The pet died only because I've started recording the video with Interface Off, and didn't see that the pet is out of range of the Mend Pet healing. :-)

First comment is absolutely correct. I will simplify and clarify:

1: Get right in front of collosus with 1st person view, make sure to look right at him
2: Spam 2 and 3, ignore the attacks you are taking
3: When screen says "Preparing to slam ground", press 1 (submerge) and just press forward until the slam is done.
4: Re-emerge, turn around and repeat from beginning

I don't know about the previous patches, but as of MoP, if your jormunger dies, have no fear. Roche's previously stated strategy of backing up when he begins to stomp works perfectly, even without your jormunger (in fact it's easier). I was able to solo him as a 79 SPriest. He only dealt about 2k damage per strike.

I gave up on the worm - submerging seems to protect you from the big Ground Slam attack, but it does nothing against the normal attacks. So I ditched the worm and just killed the colossus myself. I did this with a level 80 protection paladin who was wearing a few pieces of level 80 Cataclysm gear.

To the Discipline Priests out there: even if he's still at 75% health when your Jormungar dies just take him on! As usual, my passive Atonement ability kept me alive for far longer than I had any business being alive. Stay close to him and run under him every time he starts the ground slam cast and you can take him out easily. Other than heals taken from Atonement I had to heal myself maybe twice. Siccing your Mindbender on him dosen't hurt either (if you picked that talent).

You can actually finish this boss without the tamed beast. I got him down to about 10% health, then my work got killed. So I threw my Paladin's range attacks from a distance.

Or maybe that was the stacked damage at work.

The really infuriating thing is getting in a suitable position to actually spit acid. If your stack doesn't show, you're not close enough.

I know everyone has their own views on 3rd party quests, but rather like the giant in Zul'Drak, this one sucks.
The worms are useless, nowhere near enough health to get the colossus close to dying. It's quests like this that make me so glad I decided to spend up on spec rather than faster flying stuff. As a lvl82 Frost Knight I ditched the pointless invertebrate & took the elite down myself.

To tell you the truth i had trouble finding the orbs at first cause i figured they would be where the jormunger were near the entrance of the cave before this quest phases the area and they aren't there anymore. So i decided to check here and I found magette's comment which gave the coordinates 27,36 to find the orbs. Now i am leaving this for the people that don't have the add on that gives you coordinates. The easiest way to find it is when you leave bouldercrag's refuge (which is where you get the quest from) just go straight out till you hit the edge of the mountain and go left and travel along the edge and it should only be about five to ten seconds away using a mount.

P.S. If you want to get the coordinates add on just go to curse.com and get the app for add ons for world of warcraft and when you have the app downloaded and opened up just search for coordinates, there are actually alot of great add ons especially my favorite which is bagnon and it takes up very little memory. also altaholic which is good to track all your alts info for whichever toon you are using at the moment so you dont have to keep switching toons to find items and info that you need. and there great ones to help you with boss fights and ones to alert you when you find rare npc's and ones to make using the auction house easier to buy and sell and search for items that you search for on a regular basis. but anyway i hope this helps you and if not good luck finding what you need and are looking for.

Well when I played this I tried to kill the Iron Colossus like 10 times on the worm. I then found it 100% easier to kill it on foot I play a frost DK and I was level 79. If you are a tank or very good dps I would recommend just going up to him and killing him without the worm.

I ended up using the worm to get him about halfway down, whereupon he killed the heck out of my worm. I just started wailing on him (lvl82 Hunter, basic gear). killed him with out much trouble.

79 demonology warlock in full heirlooms.

Did the worm acid spit to a stack of five, Iron Colossus shortly after killed the worm.

Sent the Voidlord in, imp swarm (glyph), kept the Voidlord topped off and fired Soul Fire on Molten Core tick and down went the Iron Colossus.

Do the above or just attack the thing. I beat him in about 3 hits with an 84th level paladin with no worm at all.

I could not find the worms (did not have a coords addon installed) so just attacked the mob on a 79 hunter with tenacity turtle and questing greens (no heirlooms). Forgot to use my exhilaration cooldown and still downed him anyway, but it was very, very close. The using the worm to knock 50% off of his health first idea sounds good to me.

Once I got the worm thing, it took around TWO MINUTES before I could even get it to move. I almost gave up. Once it finally started to actually MOVE, the fight was straight-forward, although it seemed buggy as heck. The controls kept changing, for no apparent reason. But I only had to do this so-called "fight" once, thankfully.

In 7.3.5 with the level scaling I got this at level 72. I had 15K health, the colossus had 428K, so I doubt I could have done it without the worm. With the worm it went pretty smoothly, better than I remember last time I leveled through here which was years ago. LFD ret pally.

Even though the quest text says you need to use a Jormungar worm to complete it, this is not necessary if you are completing these quests at a higher level, as he will be a one-shot at 120 and the quest registers this as completion.

Description

We have failed to prevent the completion of the iron colossus, <name>, which means we have no choice but to face it in battle.

Bruor has devised a plan to exploit the colossus' only weakness.

No matter how tough the colossus' armor is, it is still vulnerable to a jormungar's acid. Take control of one using the orbs along the northern edge of the Snowdrift Plains, then use it to fight the iron colossus on the Snowdrift Plains. If you need help controlling the creature, speak to one of the nearby handlers.
