You can read the book any time, but to get credit for the "research" part you have to open the book when he's not there. So only if you actually spawn him you will complete the research.

Note to self: the shortcut's not always the best.

I was such a lucky little warlock, having a flying mount to get to the Gearmaster without needing to fight my way to the top. Then I thought "Oh bugger..." when I landed on the top level in his hut, dismounted, and got the message "Entering Combat". I activated the book and realised i had no soulstone up, so I quickly threw it on. Good job really - it seemed like the whole of Borean Tundra aggroed onto my level-69 butt whilst the Gearmaster was blathering on with his little self. Anyway, I focused on him and he died just before I went splat. By the way, Sacrifice lasted all of 2 seconds. Maybe not quite that long.

Maybe I was unlucky because a sentry mob was too near me when I landed? Dunno, really. Maybe I should've just buggered off and dropped combat, came up the "hard" way? It wouldn't have been as much fun! Anyway, I do know you Night Elves will be fine - you can Shadowmeld if it happens to you.

Hunter = Feign death... same thing happened to me so i /feigned after he died, trapped on of the mecha's and ran around the edges of his hut, shadowmelded, mounted up and i was flyin high and mighty xD

ok at the top of the one area is a bit hard to do on your own... Because This respawn to quickly and I have no flying mount... it seems crazy to fight my way to the top... so does anyone have any other thoughts? anything would be great..thanks

To be clear, 64.5 , 23.4 are the correct coordinates but the item is not at ground level. Rather, it is in the house-like structure that is 100 yards above ground level. Also, be careful because the boss spawns right behind you once you pick up this item.

Did this quest as a gnome, the dialogue Mechazod gave me was rather interesting.

"You were looking for me, child? Why do you come to kill me, <name>? I only wish to help.
Now that I have been reassembled, we can return to a time of perfection... the time of the Titans!
But, I can see it in your eyes, hear it in your pulse rate. You would destroy me despite my offer of immortality!
Very well. It saddens me that is has come to this. I look upon all of you as if you were my children. I will slay you if I must!"

I'd imagine the dialogue is different for non-gnomes? It wouldn't make much sense to refer to them as his children.
