This is an incredible spell for holy priests. Completely situational when you know the tank is going to die and/or could use some serious healing. Relatively low mana cost and an instant cast.

The only downside is it just might reduce the number of spirit-specced priests because of its sheer awesomeness.

I wonder if this spell will interact with Divine Intervention? If so that would be a neat synergy between palis and spirit priests, especially in certain instances when someone pulls aggro from the MT. Buff hits a pali, who can DI the person who pulled aggro, then the MT can regain aggro. For a prot pali it would be a super BoP.
Just an idea if it does infact work that way with DI.

Only thing that bothers me about this talent, is that when you need it the most, you're often in the GCD.

To make this a REALLY good talent, it should be removed from global cooldown. And a longer duration wouldn't be too shabby either ;)

It takes 6% of mana (only) and is instant cast. Most casters in BC have haste (that number will increase in Wrath) so I feel like this move will have its uses mainly as a trump card. You are not going to depend on a move with a 3 minute cooldown. However, coupled with raid healers, the 40% healing is incredible when you consider hots will be ticking round the clock (not to mention the priest's own renew).

The first poster was on point, and it is hard to describe the awesome in this move. Also, its applications for PvP are superb as well (you can stop an execute/evis/pyro, or if a pally uses holy shock its a lot stronger, if a druid/shammy use swiftness and heal the person this move is on then that person will be full life...etc).

If there are multiple priests in a raid, a rotation of this move can greatly reduce the difficulty level of future raids.

With the patch coming out on October 14 (supposedly), this will come in handy for Fel Rage on Bloodboil. 2-3 priests in raid should cover it for those damn clothies. :-)

Pretty much pain supression effect but a little different.

short time more healing and no death v short time waay less dmg. Tho this spell is actually usable on tanks and not in pvp

Now that it's healing 50% of the target's maximum health when they 'die', that portion of the ability is much more practical and powerful. 50% gives the target enough to work with, whereas the old version's 10% would have left the target nearly dead again already. A mob was eating me today and I used this just before dying with no mana, and it gave me the boost I needed to run away in a fashion worthy of Sir Robin.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this, but healing priests should realize that they will be unable to grab Meditation if they get this talent at level 70. I know this talent is amazing, but for most healing situations, I'd rather have the mana regen. I'll certainly pick up this talent by level 80, but when the 3.0 patch hits, I think I'll be passing on this one.

to make this spell readable for "normal persons"

Calls upon a guardian spirit to watch over the friendly target. The spirit increases the healing received by the target by 40%, and also prevents the target from dying by sacrificing itself. This sacrifice terminates the effect but heals the target of 50% of their maximum health. Lasts 10 sec.

means:

you summon a guardian spirit,
this spirit increases healing done to the target by 40%
if the target is about to die, the guardian spirit jumps in and dies,
leaving you a dead spirit but a living tank / whatever..

if the spirit dies by "sacrificing" itself the tank / whatever is healed for 50% of their healthpoints

Big question here, if the target is afflicted my Mortal Strike or other such ability, will the sacrifice still return the full 50%? This IS a 51 point talent after all.

And apparently this will overlap if two priests use it simultaneously.

We had alliance attacking Lor'themar Theron in Silvermoon. Two horde holy priests timed it perfectly & hit the boss with 2x Guardian Spirit while he was on 1% health. Theron got healed back up to 100% health immediately.

I almost feel sorry for the alliance raiders.. they were beautifully organised, but it was futile with this ability in play.

Yes, this does have some incredible potential as a "No, you can't kill that world PVP boss!" ability. There was an ally raid on the Silvermoon boss the other night. I ran in there with this thing, and threw it on him as he was about to die. Voila, 75%. In my combat log, it showed me healing him three times for 1.3 million each. This is great, because it takes them well over three minutes to do that much damage again, and also less than three minutes for me to walk back and wait as a ghost until I need to shoot the spell off again.

I repeated this procedure three times, and then they finally got smart and stopped all DPS when he was at about 8k health. At that point, I got nervous and threw it on him anyway, and then 10 seconds later he was dead. It doesn't make it impossible to kill these bosses... it just adds some more strategy to it. A coordinated raid can easily deal with this problem if they're alert.

However, it takes a really disciplined raid to COMPLETELY stop DPS when a boss is that low on health. One PUG who might have slipped in with them would have let me continue this indefinitely.

Also, the amount it heals seems to be inconsistent. The first time was up to 75%, the second time was up to 25%, and the third went back up to 100%. My guess would be that 25% is the intended effect if the target has a healing reducing ability on it, but the sheer volume of hits caused this to trigger multiple times.

Can it work as an aggro wipe?

If I see a mage getting hammered on, and quickly cast GS, I'm not sure how much good 50% health will do them if they've still got a dozen mobs aggroing them.

If it does, casting it on the tank would not be such a great idea, and it would be mainly used on the priest himself in case of aggro, or most probably on a mage :P

It's nerfed for NPC usage.

Used it on Thrall today, healed him for a maximum of 30260 / 30261.

It went off about six times because of all the killing blows at the same time, so it was around 180k healed. Not bad, but not enough to stop him from dying.

Can any priests who've done old-school raiding tell me whether this spell works against boss abilities that automatically kill the target? For example, Vael's Burning Adrenaline, Teron Gorefiend's Shadow of Death, Azgalor's Doom, or the Shadow Demons during demon-phase Illidan.

After trying this out for a while, I've noticed two things that made me quite upset:
If you cast guardian spirit on yourself and you die, spirit of redemption takes priority, which means you get switched to SoR and then you're gonna die for real, because guardian spirit is canceled along with all the other buffs at the time of the first "death" :(
The second is: you need to cast it a bit in advance. If you wait till the tank is really, really low on hp and then use guardian spirit, it is used, gets on cd, but the tank dies anyways. I guess there has to be a 0,5s delay or something.

Can u confirm that if u cast this on a dK tank, who has the talent of becoming a ghoul after death, the ghoul spell overwrites it?

The spell reads "The spirit increases the healing recieved by the target by 40%...". It says nothing about it increasing healing from only the priest. Can anyone confirm that the spell increases healing received from all healers? A 40% increase in healing from all healers every minute is pretty nice. Especially if you are preparing for some heavy incoming damage.

im new to preist and cant wait to get this ability it looks great for any dungon or raid...on my realm u never see a holy priest its sorat wierd when the game 1st came out no one was dis. but i cant wait to start using this as a priest what i wish Blizz would do is give it 2 diffrent cooldowns 3 min if u use to save a person and i wish blizz could make this like a instant rez( u target tank/dps/other healer in battle) and give it a 5 min Cd <just to be fair

For anyone that is interested: the Sacrifice Effect does NOT work for the Rotting Frost Giant ability "Death Plague". This is the NPC you need to slay to complete the weekly ICC Raid Quest "Securing the Ramparts". I found out the hard way after trying to be smart and casting it on myself with 4 secs remaining. I ended up getting myself and a Tree killed in the process. LOL.

Just a heads up for those who aren't aware: Latency is the sworn enemy of Guardian Spirit. I've cast it tanks and they still die; I know I casted it because Guardian Spirit was on its CD and I highly doubt that they were being hit so hard and so fast that the 50% bonus health instantly dropped to zero.

Otherwise, awesome 50 point talent and you can be liberal about it with the Glyph. Holy Priests save raids :3

As of patch 4.0.6 (Cataclysm major bugfix patch) Guardian Spirit has been changed!

Guardian Spirit: The absorb/heal from this ability can now never exceed 200% of the maximum health of the target.

That means if you have 100k HP and boss will hit you for 201k HP - You will DIE.
This change breaks many boss tactics on heroic versions within the first raid content.

While the tooltip says it will heal for 50% of the target's maximum health, as Guardian Spirit's heal is increased by talents that increased healing done (and received), in practice it will always heal for more than 50%.

Talents that improve Guardian Spirit's heal:

Spiritual Healing provides a 15% increase
Guardian Spirit will therefore always heal for at least 57.5%
Twin Disciplines provides a 2/4/6% increase
Test of Faith provides a 4/8/12% increase
If Twin Disciplines and Test of Faith are both fully talented, Guardian Spirit will therefore heal the target for 68.3% of their maximum health
Blessed Resilience, if procced, will provide a 15/30% increase
If all of the above talents are fully talented, Guardian Spirit is capable of healing the priest himself for 88.7% of his maximum health
Talents that increase healing received (such as Field Dressing and Spark of Life) will increase Guardian Spirit's heal accordingly
Healing debuffs such as those caused by Mortal Strike and Wound Poison will reduce the healing received from Guardian Spirit, usually by 10%

Importantly, Echo of Light is also procced by Guardian Spirit, providing an additional ~10-15% of the total heal, over 6 seconds (dependent on how much Mastery you have).
Priests with Twin Disciplines and Test of Faith fully talented will therefore find their Guardian Spirit will instantly heal for at least 68.3% of the target's maximum health, plus 10% or more over 6 seconds (due to Echo of Light), making a total heal of at least 75%. Most tank specs will also have talents or abilities that improve healing (paladins' Divinity, death knights' Vampiric Blood, etc) increasing this amount further.

The priest himself is probably capable of receiving the biggest heal from Guardian Spirit - with all of the above talents, a Blessed Resilience proc and 12 points of Mastery, Guardian Spirit will heal the priest for a total of 102% of their maximum health - more than twice that stated in the tooltip.

So this ability is at least 50% more effective than it sounds, and when combined with Glyph of Desperation allows the priest an instant, unstoppable 102% self-heal for when stunlocked by rogues, warriors, etc. Pretty sweet!

when used on the healing trainers in the covenant sanctums it will absorb 2 million damage which i think is the damage the game deals to it to make them stay at 1 health all the time
